never mind the standard kit. id never get a VW group car that has the HALDEX 4 well drive its shit. they have all the computers in the car and they cant make it rear-wheel biased. look at the Toyota Yaris gr a car that's smaller than the golf but they made it work so how does golf not have this.... it just shocks me

As a GTI Clubsport owner i codent have made a smarter purchasing decision as it was the cheapest sport car for the money per horsepower when i bought it. Now the golf r mk8 is almost double the cost, but is it double the fun? Doubt that, (igot same engine and turbo, plus can rip 100% to the front) Im also glad it looks better than all other golfs and most other cars as well. Its tuned now and iv been smashing Teslas, Civic Type R's, Mustangs, and even an R8. Iknow Teslas & R8 shoud obviously be way faster, but None seem to dare to drive it like i drive my Clubsport! And theres when braging rights dosent mean a sh*t, if you cant drive it like it should... 😄 Check videos on it on my channel! 👍
To be fair though, they're not even supposed to be in the same league with that much power advantage on the AMG. Comparing golf r to amg a35 would make more sense.
@@SurelyRaffa I think that might be price discrimination at its worst. Where I live the Golf R starts at € 41k, whereas the A45s starts at € 61k. Fully speced, the Golf R will drag you down € 55-57k, while the A45s will almost reach € 90k!
Think you guys are forgetting that the a45s is meant to rival the rs3, where as the golf R is the rival to the a35/s3, for it to even be considered in the similar league of the A45’s is a amazing engineering achievement! Well done VW in my opinion

We don't even get the A45S in the states, so I have a deposit down on the Mark 8 Golf R. I'm just hoping with the chip shortage and the way the market is going that it won't be quite as expensive as mentioned in this review.

Hi, I just bought a brand new A45 S Plus, Patagonia Red, I've only driven 450 miles so far, not gone over 4,500 rpm, at which point it was going over 100 mph, I love this car, can't wait to put it in Sport, Sport+ and race! and I just know, this car will satisfy all my needs, but for now, I'm running it in properly.
It’s a matter of taste I guess. I prefer the Golf R interior over that of the A45. The virtual cockpit in the R and the chrome inlays are much more tastefully done and placed than the chrome explosion and the rectangular display screen running across the whole dash. The turbine-style air vents could work... in moderation of cause. Right now, they’re overbearing and a bit overwhelming. Golf R’s minimalistic approach for me... all year round.🤓
The quality of the interior of the new Golf has decreased significantly compared to its predecessor MK7. You have to acknowledge that the merc is far way better here. For the price, the Golf 8 interior is a slap in the face! Its only a Question of money!
@HP-qo9qu I agree! My son has the MK7, and the interior is way better and more comfortable. Even better than my M340i. I prefer the seats in my son's R than my BMW. I saw the new interior in the new R and was disappointed. Everything was downgraded, IMO, while the price increased.

Still not convinced to give up my Focus RS. The "Focus" on auto transmissions only reinforces the type of car this is. Full of computers to get you around faster and win a drag race at the lights, and then to drive obnoxiously around in traffic. Not my scene (maybe when I was 18, but I've matured a little since then!)
Watching from Harehills, Leeds where these cars sell like cakes off a shelf. Fast , able to park it outside a terraced house and can navigate through narrow streets and fast enough for The M62 commute. The VW is the underdog by far, best for driving, however Mercedes-Benz AMG A45S best for interior and luxury. I'd go for The VW Golf R which is surprising 😮 but I'd go for it.
This makes me remember that Top Gear film where Jeremy Clarkson drove a GTi and a BMW M135i, we have really come a long way, and I think we are in a great time for Hot Hatches! (Also, that Merc turns so sharply, I love it! 🔥)

Not sure about the UK, but here in Australia, you can pick up a almost full spec Golf R (napa leather, dynamic suspension and performance pack) for 73000 drive away. The A45s in Australia is closer to 105000 drive away. Value definitely seems to be more with the VW.
Great video and showcase of both cars "fun factor". I think for the Golf R's money the AMG A45S is a no brainer, i would buy that in a heartbeat. Faster, more fun, and more premium. I would like to see which car would be first to develop a quality/reliability issue though :p
The A45 interior is rubbish. The demo I drove, with 1,100 on the clock had a rattle behind the dash that the dealer didn't know about until I told them. On top of that the switchgear was plain cheap and nasty. The Golf interior isn't much better but costs a whole load less.
The actual interior of a45 is not great, my 35 rattled had dodgy plastic, and was not as good as my previous Golf R 7.5, the interior on new R mk8 is a disgrace
I have the GOLF R - love it. my daily driver. My only complaint is that VW do not give you the option of a manual gearbox anymore. I drove a 2017 manual & loved it. I am tempted to swap over for a low miles 2018 in favour of my 2020. so much more fun to drive.
I wish all channels would just stop with the Premieres. Apart from the resolution (as you mention), there's nothing I hate more than videos in my feed that I can't even watch yet.
The AMG is beast, but it would be astonishingly more expensive. Here in Canada, the CLA45 (don't have the A45 :( ), is about 15-20k more expensive when comparably equipped to the existing (and likely) the upcoming R. I wouldn't look twice at it as a result. Figure $1100-1200 a month. OUCH.
I really hope Audi puts some sort of ‘drift mode’ into the upcoming Audi RS3 Sportback and Sedan. And as for Audi Sport? Please collaborate with Akrapovic again.
Just to add on, I think all sport and super car manufacturers should collaborate with Akrapovic as they’re an amazing company and it’s also warranty friendly with some manufacturers.

A45s what a car but the fact that the golf r is now on its level is unreal! Personally I would switch it up and got for a golf r 🤷♂️ that’s me assuming most people will go for the Mercedes

Golf R is my dream car for the longest time mainly because of the simplistic sports car design until today. It's sinful to pay the same amount of money for the Golf ditching the Merc.

Hi , I have a question at 0:18 you can see as if there was an LED strip in the grill. However, I see that the daytime running lights are on and this grille is not lit. So my question is: 1. Does it only turn on when we drive with night lights on and can it be turned off?

Not sure about the UK, but here in Australia, you can pick up a almost full spec Golf R (napa leather, dynamic suspension and performance pack) for 73000 drive away. The A45s in Australia is closer to 105000 drive away. Value definitely seems to be more with the VW.

Great video and showcase of both cars "fun factor". I think for the Golf R's money the AMG A45S is a no brainer, i would buy that in a heartbeat. Faster, more fun, and more premium. I would like to see which car would be first to develop a quality/reliability issue though :p
As a previous mk7 golf R owner I'm disappointed with the interior on the new one. The a45 interior is much better quality.
The A45 interior is rubbish. The demo I drove, with 1,100 on the clock had a rattle behind the dash that the dealer didn't know about until I told them. On top of that the switchgear was plain cheap and nasty. The Golf interior isn't much better but costs a whole load less.

The actual interior of a45 is not great, my 35 rattled had dodgy plastic, and was not as good as my previous Golf R 7.5, the interior on new R mk8 is a disgrace

I have the GOLF R - love it. my daily driver. My only complaint is that VW do not give you the option of a manual gearbox anymore. I drove a 2017 manual & loved it. I am tempted to swap over for a low miles 2018 in favour of my 2020. so much more fun to drive.

I wish all channels would just stop with the Premieres. Apart from the resolution (as you mention), there's nothing I hate more than videos in my feed that I can't even watch yet.

The AMG is beast, but it would be astonishingly more expensive. Here in Canada, the CLA45 (don't have the A45 :( ), is about 15-20k more expensive when comparably equipped to the existing (and likely) the upcoming R. I wouldn't look twice at it as a result. Figure $1100-1200 a month. OUCH.

Just to add on, I think all sport and super car manufacturers should collaborate with Akrapovic as they’re an amazing company and it’s also warranty friendly with some manufacturers.

On a side note has anyone seen the new 2021 Skoda VRS 245hp? Nothing compared to the R & 45s but the Skoda looks really good. Think it has Matrix LED headlights as standard for a start
