So this video confirmed me that the Yari and Lyrik are the same thing if you get the damper. Thanks, i might get a used Yari instead of a lyrik and upgrade the damper to the 2.1
Not the same exactly. Lyrik has hollow crown, less weight. But. Looks like that's it)) Everything else can be upgraded. Which is really grate. But I go with Lyrik, since I found it for a great price on bike24
appreciate this detailed, high quality video. i bought the topcap socket (24mm) and i have captive ring pliers and a torque wrench but the first time i ever did lower service i had the same tools as you and that gave me some nostalgic vibes. cheers!
Very helpful tutorial for the beginners... but first....it should be washed before servicing - especially inner side of the crown (full of dry mud) Fork lowers are very sensitive to this kind of stuff inside. If you don't have the right tools to loosen bottom screws, next time use only steel one (air side) - damper side bolt (red) is ALU. Last thing... it is not necessary to air it down before ;) Cheers mate
good tutorial but for the wiper seals the grease should be sram butter or slikoleum/ slick honey. the dynamic seal grease is used more for shocks where there is a high volume of oil constantly being sealed in by the rubber seal and the use of dynamic seal grease prevents the seals from swelling. sram butter is best for low oil presence but high shaft movements, as is experienced in a telescopic fork stanchion.
Awesome vid! Definitely have to do this upgrade on my Yari. One question, did you slap a Lyrik Ultimate decal on the stancions after upgrading your fork? haha
Do you not need to add oil to the top of the dampener when finished ? As you poured out a diffent oil from the top . Or is it not needed now for the new dampener
Brother, after the upgrade is the fork become heavier than original Lyrik? As I see the specs of the both forks, the Yari is a bit heavier and the charger weights about 500gr.
great video...planning to do this upgrade to my lyrik in the next few weeks...what did you use those other 2 washers for at around 1 min...understand what the crush washers are for but what about the other 2...thin rubber ring and larger rubber washer? thanks !
I just squeezed them dry in a paper towel and soaked them in fresh oil. Not ideal but I was waiting on a lower leg service kit that has new seals. The crush washers I believe I bought on Amazon for super cheap. If you’re gonna do this, it’s worth it to just do a full lower leg service. The service kit should have seals foam rings and crush washers.
Good tip! I placed a socket over the bolts and hit the socket, not the bolts directly. If I were to hit the bolts directly I would use a mallet for sure!
@@THEGOODSMTB did the charger 2.1 upgrade today on Yari and added the 2021 debonair air spring at same time, a completely amazing transformation all round :-) your video helped me sanity check what I was doing on the charger so thank you for sharing this on UA-cam
@@THEGOODSMTB yes. I've heard that every pike and lyrik have same length of stanchions ? Then travel is only determined by air spring you can buy for like £40 ?
It was a 2020. It could be done but I would recommend putting in the new air spring at the same time. That will make your fork practically the same as the current lyrik ultimate.
Thank you so much for the video! It's a relief that I won't have to cash our 1 grand for Ultimate and sell Yari for half of its price at best (I plan to buy 2021 Marin Alpine Trail 7)
Did you get the alpine trail 7 yet? I’ve had mine for 2 months and it’s a beast. Very pleased on the bike. Rear shock already has problems so it’s been sent to rockshox. Prob upgrade the rear shock and then do this to the yari even though it’s not a bad fork at all
I plan to do the same thing at some point, I also have a 22 Marin Alpine Trail 7, so far the Yari has been fine but doing little upgrades here and there. With my Apline I've had issues with rear shock so I've already purchased a Fox Float X performance I got brand new for $250 on pinkbike. Also had my rear hub messing up so got new set of wheels from local bike shop too. Overall, Alpine trail 7 is an amazing bike for the $3,00 price tag.
Maaaaaan get some tools.. That is killing me to watch those wrong metal tools biting into the soft aluminum or slipping off mating surfaces. The right thing to say when servicing suspension products is "There is a correct tool for this, if you don't have it, go buy it". What does a socket and a lockring plier cost? Next to nothing compared to our parts. Love and respect ur parts with correct tooling... But other than that. Great video and good servicing :)
For some viewers, make sure you practice right maintenance and use torque wrenches all the time! Some equipment are torque sensitive and forks and shocks happened to be one of them. Basic maintenance rules, if it holds liquid, pressure, high vibrations, any dynamic parts such as bushings, bearings, make sure you use torque wrench!

It's good that Rockshox products can be updated so easily. It sucks that just about every vendor in the US is out of stock.
Yeah unfortunately everyone wants bikes and bike parts right now! Good for the future of the sport though!
Nice. Probably the best video I have seen this. Thanks
jason martinez rad glad you liked it!

There's. No more c clip for the right side anymore?

They now use for the ultimate series dynamic grease for the wippers

Couldn’t find the color I wanted in yari and it’s not really a yari anymore 🤷🏼♂️
Do you not need to add oil to the top of the dampener when finished ? As you poured out a diffent oil from the top . Or is it not needed now for the new dampener
No. Charger is a sealed cartridge, whereas the MoCo is an open bath damper.
How many clicks is the HSC? the LSC and the Rebounds?
Nice! Followed to a T. But my LSC knob won’t turn...only HSC does. Any idea why?
I think mine was a little sticky as well. I messed with the tension of the screw a little bit I believe and it worked fine.
Does the C clip not need to go back on?

So the new damper is sealed cartridge and not serviceable?
Great video. 2 questions...
1. How'd you clean your foam rings?
2. Where'd you get the crush washers?

Hello! Thank you! 😊🌐!
Muchas gracias!
Cuanto cuesta en dinero ésta mejora?( si se puede decir...)
Cuesta doscientos y cincuenta dólares…. Lo siento hablo un poco de español.
@@THEGOODSMTB thank you
You dont need to grease or add oil to the charger damper ?
Daryl Horse Capture it comes ready to go, you’d only need to add oil if you we’re servicing a damper that was already in there.
Charge 2.1 is a sealed system not open bath like original yari/lyrik hence no oil/grease
Good video only small bit of advice is if you do this use a plastic/rubber hammer to tap the bottom bolts not a metal hammer
Good tip! I placed a socket over the bolts and hit the socket, not the bolts directly. If I were to hit the bolts directly I would use a mallet for sure!

Rad dude! It’s amazing what it does to the fork!
Sorry if you answered this already but, what crush washers did you order? Size
Can you use the first charger damper?
No oil goes in the top side of the damper leg?
Hi sorry for my englesh , I have a question ,how many click numbers total do you have at high and low speeds compression .thank you
I’m running basically what rockshox recommends. I’m not sure the total clicks.
Was the upgrade worth it?
what service kit do you use for the damper?
How about the length of the charger ? Is it the same for all the form travel ?
Yes. The travel can be adjusted by chainring the air spring, but the damper has play in it to fit different travels.
@@THEGOODSMTB yes. I've heard that every pike and lyrik have same length of stanchions ? Then travel is only determined by air spring you can buy for like £40 ?
Yup. Very easy to adjust the travel.
How much did the upgrade set you back?
2023: An airspring upgrade and/or travel increase is $160aud. A damper upgrade - 2.1 or 3 - is $550aud.
My Lyrik 160mm does not have a lockout. Can i turn it into a lockout shox
By putting a cheaper damper yeah but I don’t know why you’d want that. Wouldn’t be worth performance loss.
@@THEGOODSMTB Thanks for the info. I found a shox i can lock out. I need it for hills and riding long distance places too. have a good one
SWEET 🤙🤙🇦🇺
Can this be done without removing the fork from the bike?
It can but it’s much easier and less messy to take it off
What year is this Yari? Could all of this be done on a 2017 Yari??? 🤔
It was a 2020. It could be done but I would recommend putting in the new air spring at the same time. That will make your fork practically the same as the current lyrik ultimate.

what a Yari model is you? A1? b2? b3?
Nice!
Damper Kit not available on Amazon.
Lots of other places carry it.
Nice video, but those foam rings looks they are should have been replaced.
They were replaced shortly after. I didn’t have the 50 hour service kit when I did this, so I did it a little later.
