Dear Robbie, I really enjoyed watching your video (already several times now 🙂) I did a couple of bleeds on my charger 2 damper, but still no firm lockout. So I guess it must be a problem internally. I will open the compression unit soon for inspection of that special O-ring you mentioned around 6min30 in your video. I hope it is replaceable on the normal Charger 2 damper (please advise), because I saw another video of you on a Raceday Charger, and there you had to install another special piece with an O ring that could be changed. Does this make sense?

Hi Rob this is a great film very informative. Do you know if you can purchase replacement springs for Rockshox Sid dampers. Mine has disintegrated. I’m not sure if there is a solution other than buying a new replacement damper ?
Hey, thank you very much for this very helpful and detailed video!!! Please keep up the good work! I'm surprised how much dirt has accumulated under the membrane! I have a few questions about this: 1. how long has the fork not been serviced? 2. at what interval is this service planned? In the RS service manuals for my ZEB '22 I don't see anything about this! 3. or does this service possibly only apply to certain Charger 2.1 models (year of manufacture, fork model etc.)?
Hi s.kolodzie6007, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Yes actually we were also very surprised at how much dirt and water can collect under the remote. To answer your questions, 1. since this is not a "serviceable part" we don't find any connection between the fork service and the dirt under this section other than riding in wet or dusty conditions. 2. Stick to the service recommendation from Rock Shock for your ZEB and make sure its done by a certified technician. 3. It seems that the XC charger damper with remote interface is most affected by the dirt getting in, not so much on the manual and so for never on the Charger for the ZEB so don't worry about this on your fork. Just ensure its cleaned with water with a mild bike wash using a soft cloth.
Really useful! Can you tell me from where the mud gets in? I suppose its from the HSC knob on the crown so can i just cover it when im riding in mud and it will be just fine?
Hi FBI-Fipo, thanks for your message and support of the channel. The water and mud gets into the cavity that holds the spring for the return on the remote. This is because the remote wheel and LSC knob are not sealed but run on a plastic bushing for smooth lock and unlocking, this busing/ remote junction is when the water and mud get inside.
Awesome tutorial man, much different than the simple MoCo open bath oil swap I'm used too. Assume its the same thread as the sram brake (lever end) bleed syringe looking at it.
Hi Tommy, thanks for your message and support of the channel. Yes, exactly the thread is the same for the brake lever end bleed port. If you are using the syringe from the brakes, please make sure its clean and has no residue DOT oil.

I am going to be referring to this video when my service kit arrives! I need to get the bleed syringe still but I’m confused on which one I will need. When I do a search for it I see one that is compatible with the Reverb and one that says it’s for the Charger damper but only on Pike and Boxxer. Which syringe are you using here? Looks like the metal tip on the one that works with the Reverb. Thanks!
Hi @kylehotchkiss7085 thanks for your message and support of our channel. We use the reverb bleed kit for this so if you have this it will be perfect. Good luck with the service, if you need any advise just let us know :-)
Hello Robbie. Thanks for the excellent video. I am also in the process of servicing my RCT3 damper in a RS Pike fork. I have oil coming out at the top of the fork where you adjust the LSC and the lockout of the fork. I noticed now that the spare parts of the damper are not part of the 200h service kit. Do you know where I can buy the seals inside the damper or at least can get the official dimensions of the seal that I can start searching for a replacement? thx Horst
Hi Horst, thanks for your message and support of our channel. The part you need is available as a kit called the Charger remote kit - spring and seal. This is available from us, please contact Cam on sales@rbco.co.za for the details and costs to ship to you.
Thank Robbie, a great video and very well explained. On my Lyric forks the low speed compression needle appears to be stuck. I can't adjust the low speed compression knob, and when I attempt to disassemble the damper I can't get it to unscrew. Do you have any tips on how to free it so that I can get it out to clean it and complete the service? What is the needle made of and can I buy a replacement? One idea I had was to drain the hydraulic fork oil from the damper, and refill with a light penetrating oil. Is that likely to work or will it damage seals or other parts?
Hi Dave, thanks for your message and support of our channel, please send me a picture of the damper including the top showing the compression dials to rbcbikes@gmail.com then I can offer some advise on how to fix the problem.
Thanks for detailed explanation of this. My fork is stuck with the lockout on. The top small lockout lever should twist a quarter turn between lockout on and off but it can spin 360 without making any effect. What part of the internal mechanism would you suggest has gone wrong here? Could it be a result of vertical impact and maybe fluid going between fork parts or is it something in the damper mechanism that has become dislodged? Any help appreciated!
Hi Samuel, thanks for your message and support of our channel. If you have the charger damper as in the video then it sounds like the pins controlling the lockout shaft have broken off or the shaft has separated at the top. Not sure what could have caused this but its unlikely that a crash could do this unless the fork has taken the full force of the crash on the lever side. I would need to see this to ultimately give you an answer but I recommend a new damper.
Hi Robbie, could you please explain to me how to set the lockout spring? Do I have to preload it? My damper opens when i Turn it counterclockwise insted of clockwise.
Hi Raf i , thanks for your message. the lockout spring is quite tricky to set, firstly you need to ensure that the high and low speed needles are completely turned out to the negative on the compression body. Then fit the spring into the hole inside the damper. I use a 13mm or an 11mm ring spanner to hold the top of the compression body. Then ensure the outer end of the spring is inserted into the compression housing, at this stage do not push the compression body into the damper as the high speed needle will push into the damper and you cannot set the spring with the high speed needle in this position. Carefully turn the compression body clockwise against the spring and when the keyway is reached push the compression body into the damper. Test the lockout actuation with the ring spanner to ensure you have the full movement.
Thank you Robbie for the video!! Not seen anything else like this that goes into this level of detail, much appreciated! I happened to be watching as the charger 2.1 damper in my zeb ultimate has appeared to fail as the forks have a very harsh top out feeling and the rebound adjuster appears to make no difference to how fast the fork returns. There doesn't seem to be any ramp up which probably means the compression dials aren't functioning correctly either! There is a slight clicking from the fork aswell. In your experience, will a full damper rebuild sort this issue or is it worth just getting a new damper? Thanks!!
Thanks for your message and support of our channel, much appreciated. By the description you have given it sounds like the oil has leaked out of your damper. If this is the case then a service and re-bleed of the damper should sort this out. Failing this then if you are the first owner of the fork and its within the warranty period, Rock Shox should replace the damper for you at no charge.
Hi Larry Allard thanks for your message. You can find this kit here store.ndtuned.com/en/parts/169-charger-remote-kit-spring-and-seal-20.html or from us on our website.
Hi @rg8707 thanks for the message and support of our channel. The RC2 damper you have has independent high and low speed damping adjustment and is not made to "lockout" like the RCT3 damper.
Hi m m, thanks for your message, herewith the explanation. I see many shops and individuals doing frequent lower leg services which is fantastic for the fork, however just doing a lower leg service without bleeding the damper at the same time creates additional problems. The damper can and will ingest oil into itself during the process of riding. There are a number of factors causing this but it will happen regardless. When the lower leg service is performed a specific oil is added to the lowers to assist with the lubrication of the stanctions and bushings, this oil is very different to the oil in the damper and is not designed for damping. So when the lower leg oil gets ingested into the damper it creates a different damping curve as it mixes with the damper oil and it adds oil to the system which can only take a limited amount of oil. When the damper becomes overfilled the bladder is stretched and when compressed can touch the internal sides of the stanchions causing the damper to bind and the bladder to pop. In short I recommend a full damper bleed every time a lower leg service is performed.

Hi there- great videos thanks for posting ! I have the 2.1 RC2 and sram wont sell me any parts for it- I'd like to do the same service- can you tell me where ai can get the spring and skirt seal? Appreciate it!
Hi Robert, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Just to confirm, is the damper leaking? if not then I would not recommend opening the damper to replace the skirt seal. All that's needed is a flush out the old oil and fresh oil added to keep the damper smooth and in good working order. Also if you have the 2.1 RC2 damper then you should not need the lockout spring so if you buy the kit, the spring will not be needed. Thanks Robbie
@@RBC_tech Thanks for getting back to me; sorry yes dont need the spring. the issue is when the fork rebounds it makes a loud sucking sound. sram told me I need to replace the damper...
Hi Robert, ok no problem, where are you based? Our minimum shipping cost for international orders is $38 so its costly just to ship the skirt seal. If there is a ND Tuned dealer close to you it would make sense for you to get from them. If not I am happy to assist you no problem.

Hi @filip.k19 thanks for your message and support of the channel. Yes this can be quite tricky, I normally stretch the spring a little, then fit the lower part in first before connection the upper to the lockout interface.

Thank you for your good info. I have charger2 rc2 damper in boxxer 29 ultimate. Unfortunately LSC seems to be sucked with HSC. So cannot adjust LSC knob by itself. When adjust HSC, LSC also move. Also oil leaking on compression knob parts when heavy compressed and riding. is LSC rod boken in damper? Could it be repaired? Thank you for your consultation in advance.
Hi and thanks for your message and support of our channel. I recommend that your damper be serviced, opened and checked, if the oil is coming out of the compression knob the skirt seal definitely needs replacing. At this time the service agent can check the LSC and the HSC to confirm what the problem is. I believe this could be dirt blocking the LSC rod at the top where the rod enters the compression dial.
very good video! I do have a problem with the charger 2.1 damper in my zeb ultimate. The bladder is leaking, do you know where you can get one. It seems like Rock Shox is not producing spare ones. Best regards Lukas
Hi Lukas, check with your SRAM distributor, if you are the first owner and the fork is within the warranty period and you can prove its been serviced by SRAM you should get a warranty damper. I am not sure how it works in your location but this is what I would expect to happen.

This is my first time at this shop and have had an opportunity to buid any trust with them yet. In addition, is the rc2 built wit a charger 2.1 or could it be a charger 2 or a 2.1?

Hello...great video...thanks. Am I mistaken or did you use 5wt oil while Rockshox recommends 3wt for the charger 2.1 ? Does it make a great difference ? Second question, RS doesn't seem to have any kits including spring and bladder in case they need replacement. How to find that?
Hi Franz, thanks for your message and support of our channel. Correct I use the Fuchs Silkolene 5wt damping oil for the charger dampers as it has better viscosity index at temperatures above 25deg C which is normal here in South Africa. For the 2nd question the kits are available from us as they are not offered by Rock Shocks as an after market option. If you need to get these please email me on rbcbikes@gmail.com
Amazing video. Thanks for making it. I would have a question about a new Lyrik Ultimate. I just bought it few days ago and when I fully close HSC and LSC I do not feel any difference when both are fully open. Do you have an experience that the new fork would have some problem with damper? THis is my first fork which has the separate HSC and LSC knobs.
Hi Jozef, thanks for your message and support of our channel. The damper you have has the HSC and LSC separately adjustable as both have a complete different function. The LSC will reduce bobbing and unwanted movement of bumps whose force does not exceed 400mm/s. The LSC is a parabolic needle which reduces the oil flow through an open port forcing more oil through the shims thereby increasing the low speed compression. The HSC works on a different circuit and will only effect compression on big hits, that exceed the 400mm/s that the LSC works on. So your question- the LSC dial will have a minimal effect when pressing on the handle bars due to the slow compression power you are putting on the bars, likewise the HSC will only be felt on big hits like drops or jumps. My recommendation is first ride for 30 min to warm up the damper then make some changes to the LSC and HSC on a course that has some berms and drops. The changes you make here should be evident in the forks handling.
Hi James, thanks for your message and support of our channel. I would not change the 5wt as the viscosity index difference between the Rock Shox 2,5w and the Rock Shox 5wt at 100Deg C is quite significant which means less damping as the temperature in the damper increases. I find the main issue in your instance is from the air chamber; if you pump the fork to the correct sag for your weight it will most lightly feel sticky to get the shock moving but then blow through the travel i.e. no mid stroke support? The best fix I find is to increase the negative chamber or to take control of the negative chamber by making the fork dual air. Send me an email to rbcbikes@gmail.com and I will give you the details.
Thanks for the video! I have a charger R damper in my Zeb and would like to put a lighter rebound tune in it. Do you have any shim stack recommendations to make that happen?
Hi Cade, thanks for your message and support of our channel, unfortunately I don't have this info to share. Please check with your local Rock Shox (SRAM) distributor, they should be able to make these changes for you.
@@RBC_tech thanks for the reply. Not even RockShox themselves will give me any info. It's pretty cool I can just call the dudes at fox up and get tune kit for whatever I want. I've revalved my '21 float X2 a number of times now with great success.
Hi Matteo Ricci thanks for your message. Then fit the spring into the hole inside the damper. I use a 13mm or an 11mm ring spanner to hold the top of the compression body. Hello my lyrik ultimate low compression knob is not functioning. It had 19 clicks before but now it's turning infinitely. It womt stop. Is it repairable?
Hi Marco, thanks for your message and support of our channel. It sounds like the brass guide pins have broken in the damper. These pins guide the parabolic needle assembly allowing it to close the low speed oil port. A suspension service company should be able to open this up to check if the damage is repairable or not. In a case like this we would open the damper and check the damage to see if its repairable, most times its repairable so quite inexpensive, however be prepared to purchase a new damper if you cannot get this repaired.
@@RBC_tech hello sir! I sent my fork to local shop here and found out that the LSC rod or pin was broken and left the valve fully open before the pin snap. They can't repair it or replace with a new part. So I'm gonna use my fork without LSC. It's horrible, but I dont have the money to purchase a new one. The charger damper 2.1 is expensive. Thanks sir!
Can you tell me where I might find this kit to rebuild the damper? I'm struggling to find one...
Hi Larry Allard thanks for your message. You can find this kit here store.ndtuned.com/en/parts/169-charger-remote-kit-spring-and-seal-20.html or from us on our website.
Thanks , great vid. Does the charger 2.1 rc2 damper lock out ? Mine does not , it just gets stiffer
Hi @rg8707 thanks for the message and support of our channel. The RC2 damper you have has independent high and low speed damping adjustment and is not made to "lockout" like the RCT3 damper.
Was too much oil added to the lowers and that is why it got up to the bladder or does that just happen after awhile?
@@RBC_tech That makes sense, good to know. Thank you for taking the time to give a detailed explanation.

@@RBC_tech Thanks for getting back to me; sorry yes dont need the spring. the issue is when the fork rebounds it makes a loud sucking sound. sram told me I need to replace the damper...
sorry and yes its leaking from the top on top of the adjuster knobs; if the skirt seal is the same size for the 2.1 rc2 then yes thats what i need !
Hi Robert, ok no problem, where are you based? Our minimum shipping cost for international orders is $38 so its costly just to ship the skirt seal. If there is a ND Tuned dealer close to you it would make sense for you to get from them. If not I am happy to assist you no problem.
@@RBC_tech ya that is a lot; is there a part number for the seal?
Great can you do the 2.1 damper assy for the Boxxer fork.
Yes I can, no problem
Hi ! The charger cartridges do not have a specific overhaul kit for replacing the o rings?
Hi two suspension, thanks for your message, you can purchase the kit here store.ndtuned.com/en/parts/169-charger-remote-kit-spring-and-seal-20.html
hello, any idea where i can find in EU this spring for lockout ? Thank you in advance !

Very welcome
my friend, could you tell me if this tutorial works for a rock shox sid select 2020... thank you very much
Hi Alfonso thanks for your message and support of our channel. If you SID has a Charger 2.1 damper then this will be the service procedure.
Hello my friend, thank you very much for the information provided. Excellent topics on mechanics.
Have you seen issues with the rebound getting locked up from new?
Hi @TheSpade83 thanks for your message and support of our channel. So far I have not had any issues with the rebound in all the Chargers we have done. How has your experience been with this issue?
@@RBC_tech unfortunaly I received a brand new unit to upgrade my yari and the rebound was locked up. The company I ordered from finally agreed to send another under warranty
Hi from Czech, thanks for your knowledge. But i have a question, i have a problem with instaling the spring (13:20). When i turn the spring, lower piece of spring will drop under the rubber seal and i dont push it down. Do you have any tips for that? Thank you for answer.
Hi @filip.k19 thanks for your message and support of the channel. Yes this can be quite tricky, I normally stretch the spring a little, then fit the lower part in first before connection the upper to the lockout interface.
Thank You for vieo.
It will be great if You could write what service set You used. How can I buy a rubber bleeder.
Please write what kind of oil do You use.
Thank You!
Nice video, but can i change the spring without bleeding it?
Hi Carina, unfortunately not, opening the top will remove the bladder seal so it would need to be re-bled after replacing the spring.
Best regards
Lukas
Hi Lukas, check with your SRAM distributor, if you are the first owner and the fork is within the warranty period and you can prove its been serviced by SRAM you should get a warranty damper. I am not sure how it works in your location but this is what I would expect to happen.
Would you mind telling me the make/model of the vise you are using? Thanks for the video!
Hi Bobby, thanks for your message and support of our channel. I am using the offset bench vice from Adendorff, herewith the link. www.adendorff.co.za/product/mac-afric-150-mm-offset-steel-vice/
I purchased a new fork and am having the shop swap out the air spring for a different size. How can you visibly tell the difference between the charger 2 and 2.1 without disassembling the fork? This is my first time at this shop and have had an opportunity to buid any trust with them yet. In addition, is the rc2 built wit a charger 2.1 or could it be a charger 2 or a 2.1?
Congratulations, great video, very educational! Does this also apply to Rock Shox Sid Select 2021? A suggestion would be a video with the maintenance of 200 hours.
SID SL Select uses Charger RL, which is slightly different.
Hi Vitor, thanks for your message, "the One" is correct the SID SL used a different damper which does not have a bladder and is quite easy to service. check it out here www.sram.com/globalassets/document-hierarchy/service-manuals/rockshox/front-suspension/2021-2023-sid-and-sid-sl-service-manual.pdf
Thanks for your video. Does it easy to find all the littles sparts of the damper ? I m in France. I dont find on internet . Can you help me ? Thanks you very much
Hi Hellenic0, thanks for your message and support of our channel. We can supply you the small parts if you are confident that you are able to complete the service. Please email me on rbcbikes@gmail.com with the details.
Is it possibe to add a remote to the sid ultimate? Or do you need to change the complete damper?
Hi Flip, you need to change the damper.
Great vid. Could I please ask where you get the charger holders for your vice from?
Looks like andreani ones
where can I find the spares for the charger 2.1?
Thank you for sharing Robbie! Can you please specify the type and size of the seal at minute 10:45 (x-ring, v-cup or u-cup)? Tx in advance.
Hi Andrea, this is a specific u-cup seal for the charger damper. the code is CHRS 1701
@@RBC_tech Maybe you remember code of the spring needed ? I got the same issue that you were solving in the video. Lockout knob do not have any power to return to open position.
@@RBC_tech thanks a lot for your comment. I appreciate it.
My riding weight is 140 with gear, would I benefit from using a lighter oil in the chargers.1 RC2 (like I did in my old first gen charger)
@@RBC_tech going to try the Vorsprung Secus

Hi Cade, thanks for your message and support of our channel, unfortunately I don't have this info to share. Please check with your local Rock Shox (SRAM) distributor, they should be able to make these changes for you.

Hi, the regulation of my high Speed damper is full close and It doesn’t move…
Hi Matteo Ricci thanks for your message. Herewith the details, the lockout spring is quite tricky to set, firstly you need to ensure that the high and low speed needles are completely turned out to the negative on the compression body.
@@RBC_tech really appreciate!!
Thanks sir!
