CARAMEL BARS | How to Make Caramel Bars ala Max’s | Ep. 69 | Mortar and Pastry

  • These caramel bars are very chewy and has that unique caramel flavor. It bakes with a thin crust which adds texture and crunch together with the added cashew nuts which adds more flavor. If you have tried and loved Max’s caramel bars, you might also love this recipe!
    Ingredients:
    1 ½ cups softened butter
    1 cup sugar
    6 egg yolks
    1 tsp vanilla
    1 can (387g) condensed milk
    2 cups all purpose flour
    1 cup powdered milk
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 cup cashew nuts (reserve half cup for toppings)
    • Bake at 180C for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown
    • Let it cool completely before slicing
    • Crust on top softens as it cools and absorbs moisture
    • You can also bake it in a 9x12 rectangular pan for thinner caramel bars. Use the same 8x8 square pan if you like it thicker. *Baking time may vary
    • This recipe makes 16 thick bars (baked in 8x8 pan) or 24 thin bars (baked in 9x12 pan)
    COSTING:
    Butter - 70
    Sugar - 12
    Eggs - 36
    Condensed milk - 42
    Flour - 18
    Powdered milk - 35
    Cashew - 60
    Other - 5
    TOTAL=278php/makes 16 thick or 24 thin bars (or depending on your slice)
