I love this song. It has a perfect dreary melancholy feel to it, and Ian’s singing tops it off. One of my favorite Sabbath tracks. Such a good album. Wish Ian did more with Sabbath.
@@johnherne8489 Not sure but sounds to me like a ‘tempted by the devil’…, ‘sell your soul’ type message. Lyrics go something like.., “If you wanna live like a king for a day…, do what I say..”. I’m also hearing references to the loneliness surrounding the protagonist after selling his soul all for that ‘one day deal’…, or maybe the devil himself explaining his loneliness and the need for companionship..; “Look at this prince of evil…, sitting alone.., dark room…, by the window..”, waiting for someone-anyone. The ‘Born Again’ could either be the devil’s sales pitch…, or perhaps final redemption of the victim. Lol, not really sure but that’s what I’m getting. Obviously it’s up for some personal interpretation. Through the years a lot of Gillian lyrics have been nothing more than rhyming and word salad to fit the song (he’s one of the best). But on this song I really think he nailed some very well thought out lyrics. There’s definitely a story somewhere in there…, just a little vague. Definitely one of my favorite Sabbath songs of all time✌️👍
My only wish is that the outro solo went on longer. For, say, four hours lol. That solo has been in my mind for 40 years. Just so haunting, contemplative, and ethereal.
Yeah you can actually hear (and feel) Gillan quite possibly tossing the rest of his career away.., putting every last breath he’s got onto the tape just to do the song the justice he knew it deserved. It’s truly a gift to us the fans. He’s a Rock and Roll Superhero. A legend.

One of the best Ian Gillan performances ever. I dare to say that it's the last time the "classic 70s sounding Ian Gillan" was recorded. Don't get me wrong, I love his post-84 and recent work, but this album and song marked the end of an era for me !
It has this Evil feel, but if you really listen to the lyrics to every song on this record, You get a sense of true hope and inner peace. To me, that is what makes this album so special. Even Disturbing the Priest, as evil as that sounds, is a strong message about those who you love and trust and to watch your back with people you meet. If you can't have a sense of humor, then you totally miss the concept of this album, I think. The record cover is a total play on words but very symbolic of this particular line up of the band. I can go on. But it's simply an all-out masterpiece of an album.

Too bad they never recorded an extended mix of the song where the guitar solo at the end was much longer. I always pair this song with UFO’s “You and Me” for some odd reason. Both songs in the same key. Same feel and mood. Lyrical topics maybe a bit different. Both songs came out the same year.

Reminds me a little of some of the more melancholy songs from the mid 70s with Ozzy. Love that dark heavily chorused guitar tone
