    I like both Machi Koro and this game. Played Machi Koro a lot! Now I play this. I see your point Tom, but this is cool using 2 dice and using 3 ways to get stuff. Your right about getting stuff, but it's awesome. Love the art work. I kickstarted Villages of Valeria and now Quests of Valeria. It's cool that Card Kingdoms it on a big world scale, The Villages is local, then Quest is personal. Good series of games. Good luck to Daily Magic. They got my money.

    The expansion packs actually add one of my favorite thing in the game, Events Cards. These cards replace the Exhaust cards and provide events each time would be placed down.
    I very much enjoy this game. I do not understand the gripe about the abundance of resources. It happens but until mid-late game. At that point, you are having to manage your actions every turn and maximize your resource gain for the final end game scoring, which is greatly effected by your number of resources.
    I would argue, after many play through of Val-AIR-E-ah, that there is a clear opportunity for strategy development and it is centered around your domain purchases.

    Seems like a simple solution would have been to choose one card to trigger on your rolls and one card to trigger on opponents rolls. Instead of getting tons of stuff you would have to be more strategic with which cards you trigger and when?

      Or add I pass to generate x money. And money is the resource paid to do more than one activation.

    Probably needs slides trackers to keep track military, magic, gold. Especially when you get duplicate cards. Better yet, make it strategy game where you are a ruler of kingdom and can build buildings and each buildings can produce things like troops, armors, weapons, gold, wheat, etc.

    So much better than Machi Koro... Love the getting stuff all the time! :)

    The main comparison one can make with Valeria and Machi Koro is using dice to decide what cards are "activated", as it were. But that's where any strong similarity ends. Valeria has so much more depth and a resource management mechanic that makes them not really in the same category. Base Machi Koro has one or two ways you can gun for the win condition. Valeria is more varied in my experience. Would hate for someone who was bored by Machi Koro to see the brief comparison of the two and think this is comparable.
    That said, I like the distillation of these mechanics in their newer games, Villages and Quests. Less fiddly bits.
    The mispronunciation throughout was like nails on a chalk board. LOL

    My experience playing Machi Koro:
    *rolls dice*
    *Doesn’t activate any cards*
    “Okay, so I didn’t get anything. Let’s see how much money I have to buy... Oh... I have no money.”
    *End of turn*
    This is why I prefer Valeria Card Kingdoms.

      Yeah this and space base kills machi koro unless you are playing the legacy version

    It’s very easy to house rule the game using the Machi Koro rule of only using the numbers on the dice. It is also very easy to modify the magic use by making a rule that states you can only use X amount of magic for every one resource spent. I see more customizability with this game.

    To borrow a slang term from old-school D&D, it sounds maybe a bit too much "Monty Haul" in how it gives out goodies. heh

    they should have made it like you have to send these citizens with particular symbols to fight that monster and you don't get the citizens back.

    Are the resources in the game limited? For instance, if the gold runs out, do you use a tracker for more gold?

    • @oikosu
      @oikosu 4 роки тому +1

      They're unlimited, you can use a multiplier (x5/x10) provided to indicate that.

    I guess I will be the odd man out by saying that I prefer Machi Koro to this. It looks like a fun game but my non-gamer wife would prefer the more elegant simplicity of MK to this.

    • @cthulwho8197

      It's Machi Koro for people who don't like the fact that you might not get anything on their turn or indeed anyone else's turn.
      Here after a few purchases you'll be almost certain to get one or more resources every time the dice are rolled.

    • @cthulwho8197
      @cthulwho8197 8 років тому

      +Cthulwho? Ok, whilst I was typing that Tom said pretty much the same thing. It's a fine balancing act because at one end I hate Catan because you can go three or four turns getting nothing and building nothing thanks to the dice roll. But I think this is too far the other way, it takes away the suspense of hoping someone else doesn't get what you want before you do as you both gather income.

    Machi Koro was a bad game. This is Fantasy Machi Koro. It's ok . But that magic resource is a bit too useful.

    • @TorIverWilhelmsen
      @TorIverWilhelmsen 8 років тому +3

      +Luke Hector (Broken Meeple) Way way less "take that" than Machi Koro, except for the Thief (but you get resources so fast anyway) and a couple of the domains. The monster stacks and the far more frequent triggering are also differences from MK.

    • @deanofcool
      @deanofcool 7 років тому +3

      Luke Hector machi koro isn't a bad game at all.

    Too bad that a lot of bord games nowadasy are like this...brainless games....the implementation of more depth would make this a lot more intereting...sadly...its not there
