Oh man, this is the best! My grandfather played this all the time. Brings back so many memories. Kinda funny because the part that says ‘oh girl’ he used to tell my grandmother ‘old girl’ & she would get mad. Hahaha! 🤣 they had another song called’ have you seen her’ they were a good group
The late 60's and the 70's were some of the best R&B ever written and sung. We grew up with true love and romance songs. We were so blessed. The group is pronounced shy-lights.
@@miguelalejandro4357 'Zactly! I believe even more memorable because we took these songs to Nam with us. Certain songs bring back a time and place that once wuz. Great, great song they really don't write them like this anymore, melody is missing in all songs nowadays in all genres that is one reason why these old songs sound so incredible. Thank you for posting, I have always loved this song.
I haven't heard this song in years. Many, many years! It's a great song and the lyrics really hit home. Because a couple of years ago my niece's husband started listening to his useless, freeloading friends telling him his life was passing him by and he needed to put his wife in her place and do what came natural to a real man. Of course, my niece wasn't having any of this and threw him out. And like the song, he eventually came to realize how unhappy he was without his wife and daughter. And not even the crowd could or would help him, because some of them were hitting on my niece. So to make a long story short, they did get back together and he dumped his so-called friends. And I guess whoever wrote that song so many years ago learned their lesson: don't take advice from lazy, entitled and jealous fools.
remember the first time hearing this song. I was very young. Not even double digits in age yet. This song just rang out of the old time speaker my parents brought to this country as immigrants and this song hit my soul. It does till this day. This is the realest love song. Seriously. The instrumentation, the vocals, the I'm dying girl I cant live without you.... Sheeeeeit! Just found your channel, Brother. Thanks for being her. Subscribed 💖💖💖
One of my favorite songs from the 70s. I was a teen when I first heard this back in the day. I thought he was singing to me! Such a beautiful song and what a voice!! 💜💜
Hopefully they were able to actually get some money out of that deal. Probably wouldn't have fared too well if they went with Motown. Its just sad that basically looks like the choice might have been, for too many incredibly talented people, fame or money, shame it wasn't a combo deal.
Tony Soprano got all weepy listening to this song on his car radio, so he goes to Dude's house, snatched off his belt, and whupped Dude's behind! hahaha
One of my fave all time songs. I love the heartbreaker song. Chi kites were an amazing group with a very cool sound. Very nice react, J. Very nice to hear this again
Other moving story songs by the Chi Lites are "A Letter To Myself," "Toby," "Homely Girl," and "Never Had It So Good." The Stylistics gorgeous song "You Are Everything!" The great musical poet Smokey Robinson in "Ooo Baby Baby, and the exceptionally gifted Eddie Holman in "Hey There Lonely Girl!"
One of my main most favorite songs of life. When I was a kid I always felt like crying cause I felt sorry for Dude singing. So sorrowful and heartfelt.
This is probably their best known song. Check out "The Coldest Days Of My Life" it always made my girl cry when she heard it. Then give "Too Good To Be Forgotten" a spin.
I am 73, female white. . . And I was in love with EVERY guy when I heard this song. Great vocals, the whole package. Where did this glorious music go? Thanks for the memories
Absolutely, and so absolutely ... dear JayveeTV This 70s Afro-American RnB group, dear baby Just bring forth all sorts of inimitable music and emotions That simply cannot be ever equalled by present-day notions.
Hoooo boy I tell you.... Haven't heard this song in years!! I think the last time was just before I left for the Army...😳 That's a long time ago! I just realized...I'm old!😖
Makin Chicago proud! Chi Lites...❤❤❤ Nice reaction...nice to see someone so young have an appreciation for 70s R&B. You outta see them dance! They were smooth like ice cream.
This is a beautiful song by a group of guys and it was a huge hit! I’ve got the CD. Every song on the CD was great. I love these guys. Legendary 🔥💜🔥💜🔥💜🔥💜🔥💜🔥💜🔥💜🔥💜🔥
The Chi-Lites (pronounced "SHY-Lites") were major competitors with The Temptations during the early '70's, with "Have You Seen Her", "Are You My Woman (Tell Me So)", (For God's Sake) Give More Power To The People" and "The Coldest Days of My Life." Like Philly and Motown, Chicago had its own sound through Curtis Mayfield, The Impressions, The Five Stairsteps, Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler, Barbara Acklin, Major Lance, The Emotions, The Staple Singers and Minnie Riperton - all of whom were quite impressive!
I fell in love with this song in 1972 as a teenager and I have been in love with it ever since. Definetly one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
🔥 - All time song
Another great Chicago group was The Five Stairsteps. Their hit was called “Ooh Child.”
Thanks for bringing that song up. I haven’t heard it in a long time.
I love that song!
That’s a good suggestion!
The classic ending to Over The Edge 1979, I think it might have been a cover in that though...
Yes!

Great job on Motown Monday . the group name is pronounced Shy Lights.
Ding🛎
@@ceejay1794 not a Motown group though. Group was Chicago-based.
These songs are timeless.
Pronounced "Shy-Lights". Man I loved these guys when I was growing up! Do "Have You Seen Her" if you haven't already.

Eugene Record without a doubt was one of the greatest Singers that ever lived. His voice was beautiful and haunting ❤️
Your killing this tonight Jovaughn. Tremendous songs. I think I can safely say, these guys voices, have hit a home run.
Motown Monday's always brings back great memories from my childhood.

Plus he wrote and produced it.
nearly got it Chi-Lites rhymes with highlights
They are soooo smooth. My favorite of theirs is Have You Seen Her. Yes. The stories in the songs of Motown era took you away. Thanks J.
Motown era yes, but this was a Chicago-based group, hence the name "Chi lites".
This song is super “intense”. I love it but I don’t ever wanna feel that type of heartbreak. Beautiful. ❤️

Sung, written and produced by Eugene Record. You already reacted to "Have You Seen Her", sung and co-written by him as well.
Great, great song they really don't write them like this anymore, melody is missing in all songs nowadays in all genres that is one reason why these old songs sound so incredible. Thank you for posting, I have always loved this song.
There's only three things missing from modern music, melody, lyrics and singing ability. Other than that, it's great/sarc.
Man, I love hearing these songs for the first time WITH you! haha
Super smoooth...The Floaters " Float on..or Bloodstone.." Natural high"
Can't go wrong my friend😎😎
Two great songs!
One of the saddest songs I've ever heard. Very emotional, but sung very beautifully.
Good description! I was driving a cab in Honolulu at the time, and this takes me back to those enchanting times.
The Sopranos introduced me to this song, haven't stopped listening to it since

The harmonica solos over the strings in this... Hits me right in the chills! Every time‼️
The greatest song ever written. Only the Chi-lites can sing it.🎼🎶🎵

It's "Shy-Lights" :)) One of their greatest tunes!
FUN FACT: The Chi-Lites tried to get themselves signed to Motown, but it never happened. Instead, they signed with Brunswick Records in Chicago.
Love this info.
Wonder if Motown ever regretted it, once they saw just how GREAT The Chi-Lites are! 🤔
