1999-2007 Ford Focus Manual Transmission Fluid Change
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 вер 2024
- This shows the process of performing a drain and fill of a 2007 Ford Focus manual transmission. Very simple process that I hope a visual representation will assist anyone with doing themselves.
2007 Ford Focus Requires 2 quarts of Motorcraft XT-M5-QS transmission fluid. Check your owners manual or contact your local dealer to verify your year's fluid type and capacity. I was not been able to find a suitable(and cheaper) alternative for the Motorcraft fluid. Seems for this particular case, the requirement must stay OE. This is not a bad thing to stick with the OE requirement unless you are looking a price... My take for this scenario, Stay with the specified fluid and don't try to experiment.
8mm Hex or Allen wrench
Drain pan is a must.

I have a ff2004. Some mechanics denied to do a fluid change for me, because they don't know how (in Saudi Arabia). Now you gave me a clear picture that may help. Thank you so much.
A mechanic who doesn’t know how to change out a fluid is not a mechanic. How would such person do real mechanic work like changing out head gaskets or replacing the timing belt if he/she has trouble with undoing and redoing 2 bolts 🙄
Superb video. Extremely helpful. The front plug on my 05 Focus was on so tight it took 1.5 hours even with pb blaster and increased torque to get that loose. I discovered that there was only a pint of fluid in the transaxle. It runs better now.
Holy shit dude
Even though the fluid may be expensive, it’s possibly a good idea to flush the gearbox a bit with new oil. So metal shavings and other stuff sitting at the bottom of the transmission will get flushed out. Maybe it also helps if you don’t restrict the draining of the old fluid. If you allow it to get some momentum it may push some debree inside the transmission with it along the way 🙂
Thank you, your video on engine mounts helped me change mine and now I can’t wait to change my transmission fluid
Your instruction was spot on. Mine was 1st change with 183k on original fluid!! Didn't even realize this was a maint thing until recently. I got 2 quarts for 41.00 online at Rockauto. *My transmission loves the difference and shifts like its coated with butter now!* Thanks for the post
No no no...you paid too much...even for rock auto
DO YOUR RESEARCH ABOUT FORD SCAMMING CUSTOMERS FOR CAPITALIST GOODS, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUT THAT VISCOSITY! Your car will last longer with never viscosity grades and it will shift better! FORD IS GREEDY! THEY MASS-PRODUCED EVERYTHING IN THEIR NAME TO MAKE A PROFIT, ALL SO YOU COULD THINK FORD WILL HELP YOU MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE, BUT THEY WON’T, THOSE VISCOSITIES ARE OUTDATED!
Changing transmission fluid is not on Ford’s regular maintenance list. It’s intended to last the entire cars lifetime. So it’s no problem if you don’t do it, but you can do it if you feel better about it.
@Engineer9736 life is 125000 km in some experts maxim 150000 km😅
So to not change gearbox
Change oil 😅
Thank you very much for the video I searched a lot and in all languages and did not find anyone explaining how we work oil discharge . But I found the information with you
anyone notice the spare key under the car 1:29 into the video
😆
exactly what i was looking for. great job
I love your presentation. Thanks
Nice video,i fill gear box till fluid just starts to overflow from fill point.
Nice and clear video bro, very helpfull
Thanks. Lol. I was under the car today and couldn't find the drain plug. Lol
Muchas gracias amigo muy vien explicado lo cambiaré hoy mismo
I have a tired Mk1 Focus Saloon (Sedan) that has just gone over 120,000mls. No service history and no drain plug so i had to resort to siphoning as much as possible out with a small bore flexible hose. Bloody awkward, there's obstructions everywhere. (About a litre came out, as it happens- took 6 hours, i went away and did something else!) The old oil was that amber colour you depict, but if you look through an inch of it it's jet black- held up to the sun no light came through whatsoever!
Result is i've changed half of the oil, i suppose i could have got a bit more if i'd raised the rear of the car a few inches.
If you can find it, Wolfs Head makes the synthetic oil for FMC. Call the 800 no. on the back of the bottle and ask them. Oil sells for about $6.50 American quart.
the best video ever ,you helped me a a lot
1:06 is a brilliant idea.
The key? 😉
I used Valvoline 75W-90 full synthetic....works great .was only $14.00 a quart.....cheap stuff was $11.00…...
Make sure it's gl3 or gl4. Gl5 is harsh on synchros
That Video is very Very nice 💪🏼 You help me wutz this Video so much 🙏🏼💪🏼
Thanks a lot I needed this.
Thank you for this video 📹...
Thank you for this video you've got a God on your side now.💪✊🙏🙏😘❤️😜🖖
Is there a dip stick on these type of cars. I can't find one on mine.
No
Now the fluid is $50 a quart at the Ford Dealer and $32 a quart on Amazon.
Nice video man...Better then some i seen...Just got an 08 so im looking this stuff up...lol
I got an 08
I have a 2000 Focus I bought new with the original clutch and never changed my oil. I got 209000 miles and must be a lucky SOB for not having any problems. Too late to change it, but maybe I get 300000 out of it.
If it's an automatic trans, then don't change the fluid at this stage but a manual you should still be okay. A manual transmission is simply a gearbox. Getting the old fluid, debris, or metal build up out might see improvement in shifting.
@@jungleking007Channel Will do, been noticing going back into first is stiff at times. Thanks!
Just wondering what the key was for, hanging from a piece of wire on the left pillar ....
Just also wanted to know I know the manual says 2 quarts or 1.9 L ,do you recommend filling exactly only that amount or slowly filling until in reaches the filler cap and starts to drip out then stop?
Notice he did not remove the filter at all to prevent oxidation from getting into filter, just the fill plug
This help me out alot but how do u know when to change the oil and u can't even check the level of it or if it needs oil
Nice vedeo.
Thank You👍👍👍
Do you have anything on a clutch job for this car? I have an 01 zx3 and wanna do my clutch but the videos I've seen are pretty rough and don't really explain things very easily! I can just figure it out but I'm just to find the easiest, safest and fastest way to do it
In dasd anyones wondering....the Allen Key size is 5/16 or 8mm
thank you, it looks easy
Is the same oil used in the 2008-2011 Ford Focus since they share the same engine and I want to think the same manual transmission?
Thank you! This helped to do my wifes car ford focus sedan(saloon) 2005,works perfect!! Tried to do on my car ford focus but i had a differrent gear box. I only have one plugg to open...
Might have an access plug on the very top of the gearbox rather than the side like in this example.
Probably a silly question, Ill ask before I start work. Does anyone know the size of the tube to poke into the filler plug hole? Being in the UK, we use metric.
Thanks
I'm guessing this is for the MTX-75 transmissions?
I believe that was the designation. Family member no longer has the vehicle to confirm.
Can you provide information, I have the same model Ford Focus model 2007, my power steering is not working and I tried to put power steering fluid in the reservoir but nothing is working. Kindly reply and thanks 👍
Why did I pay $120 for this at my oil change shop??? Thank youuuuu
I see that you only put 2 liters of oil. Didn't you have to fill in the end that the oil comes out holes?
Do what the manufacturer says. So 1.9L as shown at 3:12. Overfilling it may be bad.
I have a 2005 Ford Focus is it the same process. I'm not sure if the transmission fluid has ever been changed. what about the fuel filter in the gas tank what is the best way to clean it will out taking the gas tank off but I'm sure it needs a new filter as well. It's about 20000 miles. Any suggestions.. opinions are welcome.
Really any 75w90 axle/ grarbox oil is fine. Just replace every 30-40k miles.
I have a 2004 ford focus and was wondering if a transmission from a 2006 would go in mine
hello how are you i got a cuestion , how can check the transmision oil the same car
There is no dipstick so the only way to check it is through the fill plug, or the drain plug by draining the fluid.
@@jungleking007Channel thank you so much
i can see where the extra key.
+Chris CHOI Key has been removed! Previous owner said the was one but they forgot where they put it.
Is it also 2 quarts for ST model?
Will pennzoil syncromesh work in my 2000 focus zx3 manual?
Is this located in the same place as on the mk6 fiesta st?
The clutch is really loose touching the floor and I can not change gears at all the gears feel stuck ! Is this because it needs new transmission fluid?
The clutch has it’s own fluid reservior underneath the hood. Completely at the top of the engine compartment, a little to the right from the center. Just search online for the layout of your engine compartment. But if it has gone below the minimum level then you may have a leak so better get that checked before refilling 🙂
Can you use some Lucas additive with this transmission?
Tricky question to answer. Usually I wouldn't recommend any additives. As long as the necessary transmission fluid is used and changed at the recommended intervals, there should be no need to add anything extra. However, if you are having issues and is a high mileage vehicle, it may help....MAY is the key word here. No telling what would happen...
Shouldn’t you continue pouring the oil until it comes out of the fill hole?
That’s what you do with some motorcycle engines. But if Ford describes a specific amount in the service manual then i wouldn’t go creative. Overfilling oil can be just as harmful as not putting enough in it.
Hey buddy! My ford fiesta 2006 has transmission lights blinking on dash everytime I shift and recently its switching off when I long press the clutch while the car is on the run.
What could be the problem?
SVT same layout?
is it the same process for 2005 ford focus/cmax? very helpful. thanx.
Assuming they have the same motor/trans setup. I don't see why it would not be. Most manuals is a simple drain and fill similar to what is shown here. Any differences would be plug placement, fluid type, and capacity. Thanks for watching!
Soooo, no place to check the fluid? Like a dipstick?
These don't have dipsticks. Checking level is done through the fill port.
what about gear oil
Where do you add transmission fluid in a Ford Focus 2005? Message on 10-10-2023
Hallo ist das auch dass selber beim Ford Focus mk2 Baujahr 2006
I hear a lot of people recommending Redline MTF fluid for sticks. Is that stuff better, worse, or not designed for a Ford Fusion?
I see experiences going both ways. It will really depend on your driving habits as well as personal preference. If this is going to be a simple commuter car, stick with Motorcraft. If you are going to race, then maybe check out the aftermarket but make sure you are using a fluid rated for your vehicle.
How different would the focus mt be from the tranny on the fusion?
Don't know too much about them specifically, but a bit of online research shows each is from a different vehicle class. Focus is a compact, whereas the Fusion is a midsize. The motor and transmission in the Fusion versus the Focus will definitely be bigger to handle the larger size.
Thanks for the video. I was wondering how much fluid was in the transmission? When I changed my fluid I measured almost 4 quarts. It had never been changed until I did it at 160,000. I bought the car new. The owners manual spec is 2 quarts. Why would there be so much in there? What do you think?
If it has room for that much more someone didn’t know what they were doing. Some fluid lvls go to the bottom of fill hole. Maybe they thought this trans was one of them?
Hola buenas tardes mi focus 2005 tiene 214 mil kilómetros de cual aceite me recomiendas echarle
Tiene que comprar aceite en la casa Ford. Aceite para transmission dual clutch. Son 2 cuartos de galon y es costoso.
What is this key hanging on the wire from the stringer?
It was the backup key in case of a lockout. No longer there since we no longer have the vehicle
@@jungleking007Channel What was that blockage ?? I would like to know because the huge one is in my Ford and I have no idea what it is for. greetings
Quien tiene el manual de taller del Ford focus gratis quiero ver unos detalles de la caja de cambio por favor
Do you have to have car lifted evenly or can I just lift from side or front?
Try to keep it level or you may not drain out all the old fluid. I had this on jackstands all around.
JungleKing007 Putting the whole car on jackstands creates a stability hazard. Having a car falling into your face doesn’t feel nice.
Will any funnel and stretch of tube do for this or do i need a specific one? Is there anything you would recommend?
What I used was what I had on hand. Would think any funnel and long enough tube will work. Good luck! Thanks for watching!
Perfect! Thanks very much
is that suitable for automatic transmission ?
No. It's not the same
Wow ty! 🥰
What size hose?
Imagine forgetting to put on drain plug and then dropping 2 quarts of tremendously expensive fluid
I always have that fear.
On how many kilometers should I change the transmision oil?
Recommend going by what the owner's manual states or sooner.
MOBILE1 15w50 is best for your MTX75
Why is there no dip stick changed cv axle lost maybe 1/4 qur don't want to put to much in?
You would just fill till it trickles out the fill hole
На американцах все по другому.Прчему на немцах все усложнили?
Is this a 1.8 ?
believe it was a 2.0
Would this be the same for a Mk3 Focus (2012 - 2018)?
If it's the 5 speed manual transmission, yes. I use Triax DCT fluid instead of the much more expensive Ford dual-clutch fluid.
una pregunta cuantos cuartos agarra un Ford focus 2001 la tramitación automática

My car is a stick..but it asks for Dex 3 atf...why cant I just use mtf instead
different viscosity and different additives. I stuck with OEM, but there are others out there that have experimented with various other fluids and got different results. Through the forums, it depends on how you drive or the environment. My suggestion here would be OEM, but feel free to check out what others have done and choose what best suits your needs.
Will this take care of the shifter not allowing me to shift to 3rd gear and above?
Might want to inspect your shift linkage cables. could be worn out.
JungleKing007 gonna check the cable after I change the fluid... this started happening since the weather has been below 9 degrees fahrenheit
did it work? mine does same.
Having same issues with most gears until car is thoroughly warmed up
watch the cv axel seals they love to leak
Great video. Lol dosnt look like your car has seen a Canadian winter. Or Canadian road salt lol
No, but it still lives in the Midwest USA so it does see a bit of salt! We do our best to clean thoroughly after every storm!
So this fluid will work in my 2005 Ford Focus zx4 5 speed?
Double check your vehicle specs, but process should work for it.
@@jungleking007Channel awesome! Thanks. Yep I ended up having to order it online from Amazon as they don’t carry it anywhere where I’m from. 2 of them were 95$ 🙃 not cheap! But thx for the help. Video is very helpful
thnx u
I see your emergency key !
I heard the plugs supposed to be tightened to a certain ft-lbs. Is this an extremely important matter?
John Claybrook
Probably not. The plugs aren't holding on a moving part, so I'd just tighten them to whatever feels right.
@@johan2ofinlohigh791 Be careful not to tight too much that damage the transmission plug thread. It's aluminum.
My ranger was easy to do a clutch on
How much liter u put oil
3:12
How often should I change it
every 150.000 km
Manual says 105,000 miles with this motorcraft fluid
how many bottles needs ?
El hijo unico 2 (1quart each)
He tells it in the video. And i suggest looking in your owners manual instead of on UA-cam, let alone the comments section.
Me after a hot curry
remove cap or loosen, put the oil in your microwave for a minute, heat it up, gets thinner and moves better... yup, "nuhter pro tip from squid dejour".. course all yoos hillbillys n' sister getters can use the woodstove er the corn still, dump oil in pan, heat, dump in tranny, and I don't mean yer sis, car's transmission....
That fluid is so damn expensive.
Yes it is....
Just use Mercron 5, it's the same damn thing.
Source of information? Or you compared it by looking at the two oils? Oil is complex chemistry, don’t be stubborn about it.
@@Engineer9736 Well, im not a chemical engineer and even If I were I wouldnt have the equipment setup in my home garage to find out and tell you anyway. All I know as a mechanic is that Merc V is the manual transmission fluid thats used in most Ford vehicles. If its good enough for the Rollbacks tranny then its good enough for the shop gofer car. I personally cant tell any difference between Merc 5 and the OEM besides the price tag, but thats just my opinion. If that isnt enough info to suit your liking then suck on it soft brah.
This is mondeo
Ok.but this is not focus...
mercon V atf is a substitute stp has it and its cheaper
jason visser That stuff isn't for manual transmissions. If you're not gonna use the recommended motorcraft fluid then at least use similar 75-90 gear oil. You probably won't have a transmission very long if you put mercon v in. Lol. There's a difference between automatic & manual transmissions.
