Surprising Spokane is the biggest city between Seattle and Minneapolis, a collector and reseller center with multiple antique districts! It’s a great town for both buying and selling, I make the 5-hour drive to sell at their antique shows and shop their stores and malls at least a few times each year.
We take the Monroe Street Bridge over the waterfalls, headed for one of the antique districts, where one fun place is a regular stop for me. Tossed and Found (clever name, yes?) has some lovely true antiques, but mid-century modernism and fun vintage collectibles are their big claim to fame. A bevy of dealers here present designer furniture, signed modernist ceramics, costume jewelry, indian baskets, art, vibrant glass, lighting…there’s just a bunch of cool stuff! (Oh, and one slightly dangerous thing we all need to know about...)
We’re here to shop, and so much catches the eye. Spokane’s Expo ’74 World’s Fair left a legacy of fun and fabulous mid-century home goods. We take in the vibe, letting silly elephants and springy paperweights tickle our funny bone, while examining a seriously cool teak screen, vivid plastic fantastic swag lamps, 1960s patio furniture and an entire showroom that seems to have teleported from the 1970s!
They tossed it, and we found it! A box full of good stuff to resell (and a few retail priced goodies for our own collections) head to the car, along with a set of spectacular Case Tractor enamel signs. We uncover some unusual signed pottery pieces, a swung vase in a trending color, a beer sign, a fun Viking fish…someone tosses it, and we find it new life!
