    My son was a missionary in Haiti for five years! I’ve got a cute jewelry box from there and a manger scene that was hand carved! The deforestation was a tragic! When I visited there, I was shocked at how horrible the poverty is. I knew it was terrible, but knowing it and then seeing it is two different things. I will never forget it.

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Рік тому +2

      Oh, very interesting! I'm glad you still have that, with all the problems over there not much has remained of old Haiti. It is so tragic how badly mismanaged their nation has been...in part because of outside influences...

    Hi George and Xeno! I'm really enjoying these extra little videos. I remember having the split veggie dish as it was called in our home. Always had to serve 2 different colored vegetables to keep meals appealing to the eye. My Mom would never serve a one color meals if we had plain chicken and potatoes, the veggies had to be green and orange because yellow was to similar. 😂 I still keep colorful meals in my home today 😊

      Thanks! We do extras on occasion and these were fun for us. Had to have a green and a "yellow" vegetable (mom didn't like it when we pointed out the carrots were orange) with every meal. Colorful meals help us live longer! (Unless it's a steady diet of Spumoni ice cream)

    @8:30 ooh cool, I have the matching Sunbeam toaster with the Worlds Fair design. It's the wonderful kind of toaster that slowly lowers the bread and then raises it back out when it's done instead of launching it into orbit. I don't even eat bread but I'm keeping it to document the decline of civilization. 😅

    If you look at the old historic photographs of the Indian chiefs, you will notice furs with the heads on them as part their regalia. I was commissioned to paint a color portrait of the native American chief Medicine Crow. It was quite a challenge from an old black-and-white photo.

    I liked that "Silver Fade" carafe set, with the holder. It has a smaller footprint, so it wouldn't take as much space to display, and it fits right in with my beverage sets collection. I'd like to have a Hocking "Rings" beverage set, from the 1930s, with no ice lips...just no space for it. Fun video with interesting items!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  Рік тому +1

      I like glass sets in holders a lot, I always envisioned having a large enough space to have a party with them! I do really like the pattern sets too, for being so widespread when new, I don’t often get them in good shape anymore

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS Рік тому

      Those "Rings" sets were bad to lose paint where lemonade would run down the front of the pitcher, under the spout. It's almost impossible to find one that doesn't have some paint loss there. For me, that wouldn't be a big issue, though...it's kind of expected. It's like trying to find a piece of Fenton "Orange Tree", with the four feet, that doesn't have, at least, one chip on it. The old cast iron sinks weren't very forgiving to those feet. Chips, on those, are expected. Those feet are one reason Fenton never reintroduced the table, water and berry sets, in the "Orange Tree" pattern. @@TheAntiqueNomad
