I have not tried your powders. But I have used the same method with a local company. I use this as an overlay so I don't break a nail. I fill them just like an acrylic overlay. I just have to try your powers. Over the year's, my experience has taught my the pouring versus dipping always seems to come out smoother. It is a great alternative if you're someone like me who's very sensitive to monomers and I really can't stand the smell. So I get the strength of acrylic but the easiness of gel. In my opinion it's the best of both worlds.
My method for a few years now. Love it. I dont use the glue because I feel like that is not an enhancement. It takes away from technique. (Just my opinion) the gel with powder Makes a really NICE,THIN solid enhancement.
Stephanieee1130 also on myself i perform a full set with the powder and hard gel. And use gel polish, .that wayyy for fill all i have to do is file color off and fill in.
After watching this, I immediately went to my nail station and tried it out and to my surprise...it worked! The only issue I had was that even after filing it still came out a little thick. Not sure why, but it still looks pretty damn good for my first attempt. I'll see be doing this again. Young Nails crew you've done it again ❤
I have been trying to find a video on how to do this since I heard about it!! Thank you! So excited to do this instead of resin!! Young Nails, you are amazing.
This is how I started doing my nails from the get go...so glad I did it right lol....also I like to put a clear or natural layer of powder before I do the color
I have been doing it this way since day 1, and on the natural nail and it is amazing, my clients love it. I usually do a clear powder and gel polish over the top, so that way I don't need heaps of slick pour colours in. It suits my clients perfect and their natural nails grow so long with this method. I suppose you could say I add it for strength over the natural nail :).
Hey I have been looking for any kind of info on this method and I’m stoked to find your comment! Are you doing one or two coats of the clear powder first? Do you need to file at all before you put the gel polish on? Lastly...is this lasting longer for your clients than a traditional gel manicure? TIA.
I prep as normal, do 2 coats of clear, and then I do a light file with a 180 grit, just to rough it a little, I then I do a base coat etc... It has been awesome for those who struggle with a gel polish due to their job etc), and yes 99% get minimum 3 weeks out of it. Also some use it to grow out their nails, especially nail biters and pickers, as some find they can pick maniq of (which I try first), and they cant with the slick pour, so its great to have that option for biters and pickers :).
Jaxx Thank you so much....one more thing....are you charging the same price for this method (clear SP & colored maniq) as you do with colored slick pour-like what they are doing here ☝🏼
I just ordered 19 colors and the conversion base. This is a new service I'm doing. Omg I love and it's so easy to do! I'm never going back to shellac on my nails.
Another plus is you can do whatever color dip system powder and whenever I'm bored with that and I don't have time to file off the color. It's thin enough in layers that I can quickly paint over whatever color acrylic I have on my nails with regular polish or gel polish sometimes do I do French manicure when I'm bored with that I just paint over different colors till it's time for a fill😉
I have done this before using the Young Nail products that are sold at ULTA I really love the silkpour powders they go on so smooth and have great pigment. Always get complaints from everyone when using your products. Love the videos I always learn new ways of doing my nails.
I totally love watching your videos. As a nail tech in training this helps me so much. I tried your method & extremely happy to say it works 100%. I've been struggling to get clients because I was only offering gel manis that too only natural nails. Now can offer dip acrylic aswell. If you could do a video on how to apply tips for beginners I would really appreciate it.
I love Tracy's videos! I refuse to do resin but a lot of people are interested in dip powders now so i am going to give his a try. Love that pink as well. 😻
I damaged the matrix on my big toe so now it splits when it gets a little length on it. I use this technique to strengthen the nail to avoid it splitting 😊
Jist tried it now for the first time! Absolutely fantastic. I use a regular gel base coat and a regular acrylic powder and uv lamp to cure. Love it. Thanks!!!!!💕 Lots of love from South Africa
I love this method super easy and saves you time.... I'm also using normal acrylic powder and gel base coat. I'm also from SA. Thank you for sharing this method. Love it.
Thank you so much for these educational videos! I don't do nails professional, just for myself, and your videos are helping me so much to make sure I do them right. I have watched a lot of UA-cam videos on doing nails(that's what happens when you are off two weeks straight with the flu!) but I must admit, yours are the most educational and fun ones I have watched. Thanks again!
It's our Slickpour color Venus Rising, but it's no longer available. Another good option is Tart and Tangy. www.youngnails.com/products/tart-and-tangy-fluorescent-pink-coral-color-dip-powder
@youngnailsinc is there a concern of the base coat not curing fully with the pigment over top? If so I imagine there would be an increased allergy concern
Yes!!!!!! I experience dip flu too so I want to try this so bad!!! I spent so much money on dip powders and thought It was a total loss because of the horrible effects I experienced. I hope this solves it. Thank you YN!!!!
I’ve had great results with this method and opaque colors, but I find that sheer and transparent powders come out cloudy, even if I’m careful to make sure the powder wets out. That seems to be the consensus among other DIYers, but I’m wondering if the pros have any techniques for that? It’s not the end of the world, it just limits me to cover pinks for French. I love that it’s less rigid than the cyanoacrylate base.
If there's a specific color you're having challenges with, please dm us pictures of the results you're having. Please keep in mind that sheer colors still have color to them and they are not completely clear. If you are looking for a clear powder, Under The Radar is a completely clear.
No, this is done with our conversion base and top coat. It is formulated to absorb the powder this way. Both are available on our website, youngnails.com
you applied this over a set of previous nail enhancements. How well will this work on a natural nail? Most of my clients are natural and use gel polish with a few who choose to wear enhancements. Is this a soak off base or a hard gel base and top coat
Naturally _ Me777 I do this exact procedure on mine, which can be done with any gel base coat you cure, not hard gel, on my natural nails. However I do use the system solidify (different brand), between layers if the powder has glitters in it and needs a clear dip layer on top to protect the glitter from buffing, then top coat.
I sometimes use this technique with clients. If they want enhancements I use a tip. You don’t need to use hard gel or acrylic first. The nails are very strong when they are finished 😊
I found this--it's the Cuccio system, but I assume the method would work with any system. Scroll down to almost the bottom of the page; it talks about Building an Apex. www.adeldirect.co.uk/blog/2017/06/how-to-cuccio-nail-dip-system/
Thanks for the amazing video. Just graduated nail school and watching your video's made me attend nail class. Thanks you guys. Wish you had a class here in Miami, Florida..
I've been using gel dip for a few years as it's great over natural nails or even with extensions but I find it's not great for very long extensions. I use a different brand as you used, one question, you said once you have dipped twice you can then file or buff before putting the top coat on, but the brand I use, and as I've always done is put the top coat on then buff till smooth then put another top coat on, it's surprising what a difference it's makes. X
Swipe is used to cleanse the natural nail, mani q cleanse is used to remove the tacky layer from gel polish. Yes you can use slickpour with our monomer.
Ms. Tracy, first to say I did the nails like you did with caption and slickpour. I used CND powder and caption base and top and my nails are hard and not chipping. Second do you have a video made of how you did you own nails. Are they Acrylic or Gel or did you use forms or tips and which acrylic system from young’s nails you used. I find your nails are so feminine and slender. Not too long or short. I am used to having long nails. If you have done a tutorial on your nails I love to see it and if not I still would like to see how you did your nails if you decide to do a video. Many thanks 🙏🏻
Yes you can! Just keep in mind that it could add bulk to your nail. Try making the acrylic part a little thinner than normal so when you add the dip powder it isn’t as bulky.
I'm not a pro - just a hobbyist. I have lots and lots of gel polish colors that I'm sad to see sitting off to the side and getting no use. and I work on natural nails. If I understand, I do a coat of gel polish base, cure it, gel polish base + dip polish (clear or otherwise), cure, repeat, then gel polish top coat and cure, then remove the sticky residue. (I'm a step by step instructions kind of girl lol.) I have the Gelish gel polish system - does it matter what I use?
We have not tried using slickpour with any other gel systems. We have tried it with several of our gel systems and found that it works best using Conversion Base and Top Coat.
Cindy Cadman I have Gelish as well. It probably works best to keep within one system, but we [talented] hobbyists CAN'T GET YOUR SCHTUFF, YN ... sigh... so we have to make due with less than The Best. [tiny violin ...] ;)
I normally do the regular process for dip and do gel top coat for shine but My gel top coat always peels off when I use it over my dip powder. Any tips?
When you are using the Conversion Gel, we recommend prepping the nail as you would any other enhancement (push back cuticles, remove shine and cleanse with Swipe). After cleansing, adhere your tip, cut, shape and blend it. Using the medium sanding band or 150 grit file, remove the shine from the remainder of the tip and dust the nail off with a dry manicure brush. Carefully use a lint free wipe with Swipe to cleanse the natural nail again, but avoid getting Swipe on the tip as this can smooth the surface out again. Apply a coat of Protein Bond to the whole nail and then you can begin your application with the Conversion Base and Slick Pour powders.
I absolutely love dip powder but I am allergic to the resin in every kit I’ve tried. I’ve been curious to see if this works because I have so many powders and hated seeing them go to waste. Is this method as strong as dip powder? Or more like gel?
In this video, Tracey used our conversion top coat. You would want to use it first in athin layer but then you can apply stain resistant on top of that.
If your application is clean and smooth around the cuticle, you don't have to do any filing to finish. However, if you have too much product or a surface that is not smooth, you may have to file. Just make sure you file with a 150 grit file, cleanse the nail, apply one coat of Protein Bond and the re-apply your top coat.
haralynn I have the conversion system because when I do an overlay using this system it stays on long as well as the gel nail colours are so nice. I ran out of caption top coat recently and than used Gelish top coat cause that’s what I had at the time and use. The result was good and no chipping. I think you can use a good quality top coat of any brand and than cure it in a lamp. The conversion top coat is shinier than Gelish. I also use CND system and top coat is quality, durable and tough. Any top brand works as long as you cure in a lamp either UV/LED. Young Nails are promoting their product and not others. Also conversion top coat is thick and don’t need lots, I know cause I tried different ones. Its all trial and error.
This is how I do Dip powders , I don’t like the thought of putting superglue on nails , I also use the natural powder to do an overlay on natural nails for strength then use a gel color on top
That grossed me out, too ... layer upon layer of what's essentially super glue! I put my pretty powders away, and that's where it's stayed. Now I'll be willing to try again. Thanks for playing around, YN people! :)
I also do this, I only have the clear and use it as an overlay and my clients love it, There nails grow so long and it is so quick, I just add a gel polish over the top :).
I used the clear powder to add strength to my moms natural nails, but the gel polish is not holding up at all over the dip. I didn't add step 4, because I thought that was just for shine. Do I need to complete all 4 steps when I'm just using the clear dip powder with gel polish over it?
I recently received my Protein Bond, Conversation base, top and Slick Pour! My applications are coming along great due to Tracy’s great video. Thou I noticed that in one video you applied the base coat and cured it and in the other you didn’t. Does it make a difference? Do you have to completely remove everything for each manicure or can you back fill? And my last question for today, is there a video for applying Slick Pour over a tip? Im so excited to bring this to my clients!
You don't have to apply that extra base coat, but we recommend it for a couple of reasons -Gives the nail a little more structure and durability -When using colored powders, the extra base layer keeps the color from absorbing into and staining the natural nail -You can either file off or fill your product every few weeks. If you choose to file your product off, you only have to file down to that base layer, not all the way to the natural nail. This can avoid any excessive filing on the natural nail every time you change out the color. Here's a great video to show you a tip application, but we don't have one with a Slick Pour application over the tip. It would generally be the same application as over a natural nail but you may need to add another layer through the stress area and also make sure you completely remove the shine from the surface of the tip if you are using the Conversion Gel method.
I totally appreciate your time and information! I feel more convenient in my manicures and able to educate my clients. And I can give my clients more choices. If you ever do classes in the Central Valley I’m totally in! 💝
What about using this technique for natural nails. Using the dip method to strengthen. Can you guys do a video on that. I’m using your powder now to do that on a client. And I feel like I’m taking for ever. Removal: applying to layers of dip and then I use a gel polish for color because the powders I have aren’t the color she wants. Please help me :)
if I am going to use a gel polish over SlickPour I use a clear or nude color as my base so that I only have to fill the nails when they come back. Saves me from having to remove and reapply
so, before she put the base gel polish on and then poured dip powder on top.. did she use a "natural colored" dip powder on top of her natural nails and already use a nail drill and file to get her desired nail? or are those her natural pointy light pink nails lol?
I have a few questions if anyone will help me out. I love having my nails done but where I live the nail techs are terrible so I prefer to do them myself. I want to try this method but I'm wondering if you have to have the brand of slick and pour and the gel clear coat they use in the video or if it works with any kind of gel and dip powder brands? I tried to find a link to their website to buy what they use but there is nothing in the description of the video :( Any feed back is appreciated! This video is awesome. Thank you for letting the rest of us know!
I really don't want to have to put resin on my nails and I don't know of any other brands that have a system that use gel polish in placement of resin. Please someone help me? 😭
Yes we manufacture the products used in this video. our website is www.youngnails.com and the gel we used in this video is Conversion base and top coat and the powders are called Slickpour
Hi Tracey. Thankyou! A really cool idea👌👌Can you please confirm...AT INFILL TIME, THE NAIL TECH ONLY NEEDS TO GO TO THE BASECOAT, RATHER THAN SOAK OFF LIKE THE RESIN/POWDER METHOD? That is genius, as soak off is time consuming. Please let me know if I have understood correctly. Thankyou kindly🦋🦋🦋
When we lay down that first layer of base and cure, it’s so that when the customer comes back in we can file the color off with our e-file and only have to go to that layer of clear and then repeat our process 😁
I bought the slickpour kit from ulta. I have gel nails on my natural nails. But the slick pour base in kit is it different from the conversion base? Could I use the base coat included in kit on my gel nails?
This is a different method of using our slickpour dip powders with our conversion base and top. If you are looking for a method without using a light, you would be looking for the resin method. ua-cam.com/video/ReXNd_8dOF4/v-deo.html
Would this work with the gelish base? I would love to give it a try but I don't have a conversion base and I'm not sure if that is important or not. Sorry, newbie here!
This is how I do Dip powders , I don’t like the thought of putting superglue on nails , I also use the natural powder to do an overlay on natural nails for strength then use a gel color on top
haralynn do you not need the activator for this and how long does it last doing this method? I have a lot of Kiara sky powders and wonder if I can my powders with young nails base.
I have an important question...I see her nails already have acrylic on them. I want to know , can I use the gel base coat as the bond with the powder and build layers over tips to make my nails ? Or do I need to have acrylics done before ?

Cindy Cadman I have Gelish as well. It probably works best to keep within one system, but we [talented] hobbyists CAN'T GET YOUR SCHTUFF, YN ... sigh... so we have to make due with less than The Best. [tiny violin ...] ;)
yes you can on amazon :)

I normally do the regular process for dip and do gel top coat for shine but My gel top coat always peels off when I use it over my dip powder. Any tips?
Make sure to rough up the surface before applying the gel top coat. 😊❤️
Buff the dipped nail then apply a primer, then a base/bonding gel, then the gel top coat!
tack free no wipe gel top coat is different, and it won't peel off when used with dipped nails.
I agree with grace, mine was still peeling off in spots and the first time i used a no cleanse top coat my clients nails never peeled!
If I want to glue a tip on before do I follow the same steps or is the method different if using a tip?
I do this with dip powders and builder gel!! Nice to see that it's actually a thing.
haha for sure
I’m allergic to dip resin so this method is a lifesaver!
If you have hard gel why do you wanna use acrylic too?
So instead of doing a fill per say , you file right down to base coat then reapply as above?
Would you add any nail art like normal before applying the top coat? Would this work if I used the clear powder and applied gel polish over the clear?
yes you can apply the clear and then gel polish over the top.
Just tried this and its amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching
I absolutely love dip powder but I am allergic to the resin in every kit I’ve tried. I’ve been curious to see if this works because I have so many powders and hated seeing them go to waste. Is this method as strong as dip powder? Or more like gel?
It is very strong but it is almost like a hybrid nail flexible like gel but durable like acrylic because of the powder
That’s what I figured! I can’t wait to try it! Thank you
Hi young nails. Can I do this method with builder gel? Or what gel goes good with this technique and does it straighten the nails?
WowWOwWOW that's awesome Can you do that with any dip powder and gel Love all you Videos. Thanks for sharing, you guy are awesome!
Can you use the stain resistant top coat for color he finally top coat on the gel dip powder ?
In this video, Tracey used our conversion top coat. You would want to use it first in athin layer but then you can apply stain resistant on top of that.
On some of the videos they show that you have to file around the cuticle to prevent the ridge as it grows out. It’s that true with this method?
If your application is clean and smooth around the cuticle, you don't have to do any filing to finish. However, if you have too much product or a surface that is not smooth, you may have to file. Just make sure you file with a 150 grit file, cleanse the nail, apply one coat of Protein Bond and the re-apply your top coat.
@@youngnailsinc Thank you for the information. Do you have a starter kit? And can you use gel polish over the dip?
@@youngnailsinc oh wait, I have Caption Conversation base and top. So I guess I just need a dip powder and Protin Bond, right?
@@rosiehodges2547 Correct. You also need Mani cleanser to remove the tacky layer from the top coat after you cure it.
@@youngnailsinc Sounds like I need to pick up a starter kit!
Thanks for your help.
Thank you, more ways to use all those beautiful Slick Pour colors!!💜💕💜
Question......do you need to wipe brushes off between applications to prevent contamination of the conversion gel and top coat?
You could but it really doesn't pick up much
Omg wonderfully easy and beautiful!! Love it Tracy favorite color by the way!!😊
Thanks! Happy you liked it
Does it have to be the Conversion top coat? Can it be any gel top coat?
Slickpour works best with Conversion base and top coat 💖
haralynn I have the conversion system because when I do an overlay using this system it stays on long as well as the gel nail colours are so nice.
What color is that? This helps me alot I'm going to start using the slickpour like this.
Venus Rising 😊
YoungNailsInc thank you
So pretty! I want that color too!
To be clear we are applying angel base cost instead of dip powder base cost, then curing?
This is how I’ve been doing it for a couple years now. I hate the resin stuff.
Lynne Bax my sentiments exaxtly. O feel like Im cheating them.
We love using Slickpour with the gel system 😍😍
I used the clear powder to add strength to my moms natural nails, but the gel polish is not holding up at all over the dip. I didn't add step 4, because I thought that was just for shine. Do I need to complete all 4 steps when I'm just using the clear dip powder with gel polish over it?
Step 4 is a top coat. Email katie@youngnails.com and she can help troubleshoot with you.
Hi Tracy. I was why did you choose conversion base and top instead of mani q base and top? Can it be used with ManiQ also
We found that it works best in Conversion 😁
I recently received my Protein Bond, Conversation base, top and Slick Pour! My applications are coming along great due to Tracy’s great video. Thou I noticed that in one video you applied the base coat and cured it and in the other you didn’t. Does it make a difference?
Do you have to completely remove everything for each manicure or can you back fill? And my last question for today, is there a video for applying Slick Pour over a tip?
Im so excited to bring this to my clients!
You don't have to apply that extra base coat, but we recommend it for a couple of reasons
-Gives the nail a little more structure and durability
-When using colored powders, the extra base layer keeps the color from absorbing into and staining the natural nail
-You can either file off or fill your product every few weeks.
Do you need the activator for this or no?
Not when used with conversion no
YoungNailsInc ok I’m going to purchase it now. I use regular dip liquids
so, before she put the base gel polish on and then poured dip powder on top.. did she use a "natural colored" dip powder on top of her natural nails and already use a nail drill and file to get her desired nail? or are those her natural pointy light pink nails lol?
Can you add slick pour powders to synergy gel?
yep
YoungNailsInc Yay! That’s awesome! I got some playing to do! Thank you!
Hi. Did you clean the sticky layer of the base coat before starting applying base coat and dip powder together?
No, you don't remove the tacky layer.
Hi there, can you use a rubber base gel for this method.?
Unfortunately, as rubber base isn't a product we manufacture we can't speak on how to use it.
Thanks for getting back to me. I will have to try it out. Thanks.
@@callyvdm hi. Did it work out for you with rubber base gel?
So this can be also done on acrylic and on natural nails?
Yes it can be.
YoungNailsInc Fantastic. Thankyou.🙂
I loved this.... thanks Tracey!!!
💗💗💗💗👍💗💗💗💗💗
Thank You!!
Can I ask if I can use acrylic powder alternative to dip powder using this method? :)
Not great it doesn't absorb the same
Can you use gel polish over a clear dip powder?
Yes, you can.
I bought the slickpour kit from ulta. I have gel nails on my natural nails. But the slick pour base in kit is it different from the conversion base? Could I use the base coat included in kit on my gel nails?
The base included in the kit is a resin. The conversion is an alternative way to use the system, both are great.
Whats the best nail type to get when you going to get your nails done?
All personal preference.
Will this technique work with your standard acrylic powders?
Unfortunately it only works with slickpour
YoungNailsInc can dry pigment be mixed into the clear or white slick pour?
Yes it does. research it.
You guys are amazing!! Question: Is there a difference between "conversion" gel and regular gel? Is "conversion" just Young Nails category/name?
Nope the chemistry for conversion is just a bit different from standard gel polish which we also carry. Our standard gel polish is called maniQ
Can you mix dip powders with hard gels for sculpting?
Is (protein) bond necessary to get a smooth and nice sticking layer or can I just apply base?
Protein bond helps prevent lifting. Protein stays sticky.. sticks to the natural nail and then sticks the product.
Is conversion base basically just gel base coat? I want to do this but don't have your products
Similar to a gel polish
I love this. Using resin is had to remove using acetone soak off the cloth sticks and hard to
Pull off 🤦🏽♀️ this is easy to remove like gel polish 👍🏽
exactly!
How is this easy to remove?
How do you remove it the best way?
Hello can I use gel polish base as my base for dip powder please help me understand
Hi I tried doing nails with dip powder using this method with base coat but on ACRYGEL overlays product on mail but it all crumbles and comes off
Could you show us how to do ombré with the dip powder and gel????? If it’s possible???
For sure will work on a video
YoungNailsInc yay!!! Thankyou 😊
This seems so complicated. Other brands don’t have you cure your nails in between powder application. Is this suppose to make the product last longer?
This is a different method of using our slickpour dip powders with our conversion base and top. If you are looking for a method without using a light, you would be looking for the resin method.
ua-cam.com/video/ReXNd_8dOF4/v-deo.html
Would this work with the gelish base? I would love to give it a try but I don't have a conversion base and I'm not sure if that is important or not. Sorry, newbie here!
Would have to try it we only test with our products.
I do it with reg base and it works
How would this work with nail tips?
What color is this slick pour that is used
This is how I do Dip powders , I don’t like the thought of putting superglue on nails , I also use the natural powder to do an overlay on natural nails for strength then use a gel color on top
Do you complete step 4 and then buff the nail before you apply gel polish?
How dies that go with length and strength
haralynn do you not need the activator for this and how long does it last doing this method? I have a lot of Kiara sky powders and wonder if I can my powders with young nails base.
Basically the glue, gel, acrylic has the same ingredient
So no activator needed? Just gel base, dip, gel base, dip and gel top coat?
What is the liquid you use to cleanse the mail after the top coat?
I have an important question...I see her nails already have acrylic on them. I want to know , can I use the gel base coat as the bond with the powder and build layers over tips to make my nails ? Or do I need to have acrylics done before ?
Would be better to use acrylic if I'm understanding your question correct
