  • The Kia Optima offers impressive interior space and surprisingly good value. Redesigned for 2016, the Optima also adds some style that's missing in other mainstream sedans.

    I've got an Optima and I love it. Great power, yet good on gas. Interior is roomy and stylish. Stereo sounds great and the car handles great. I definitely recommend it. This Kia is my 3rd and there will definitely be a 4th.

      It's been 5 yrs since you made that comment. How's the car made it so far? I'm thinking of getting one soon!

    The completely redesigned seats are an extremely welcome change that is often glanced over. Great highlights on this video!

    I just brought a demo MY16 Si with 6,000kms on the odometer.
    I flew to Darwin and drove it back to Alice. A week later drove it on a tour of Kakadu, Darwin, Litchfield, Katherine and back to Alice with a family of four on board. Thumbs up for highway cruising, comfortable, passing caravans and roadtrains was fuss free and fuel efficient. Every day of our tour which included darwin urban registered anywhere between 6.9 to 7.8kms/litre, with the worst figure from Katherine to Kakadu Aerora included an 80kms road trip to Gunlom gravel, deep dirt and corrugations 2WD road, which we found out later hadn't been recently maintain, "you would have been better off on the 4WD Magok road as that had been recently maintained".
    So back in The Alice and urban and suburban driving. Nice around town and I have ventured no where near the level of fuel consumption claimed by Kia, but much more frugal. But Alice is flat.
    I think this segment of cars, Optima, 6, Accord, Camry, Mondeo, Passat, ZB Commodore (LT-RS) etc offer particularly good value for money for a family or a smart minded single or coupkle that want more room than a hatch and better running cost than many SUVs.
    It would be a mistake to see this medium/large medium go the same way as the Falcon/Ozzydore/380.
    From me, my near new Optima gets a big thumbs up. And it turns heads around town, too.

    The fit & finish in higer trims like the SX & SXL Turbo are compareable to many entry level German sedans as well. Don't go & knock Kia because you're in the mid-level EX without the optional equipment or the SX or SXL Turbo trims

    When looking at hyunda/kias in the non top trim they look like rental cars!

      Well, that’s because they WANT you to buy the top trim level. There’s nothing wrong with the base models though. They’re still very nice and they have everything you need.

    Why show an EX and not the fully loaded SXL when comparing to luxury cars? Not a helpful review and I'm a CR customer.

    That really is a ton of equipment for a bit over $25k.

    • @PhoenixPreferred
      @PhoenixPreferred 8 років тому

      +victreebel Yes, but don't trade it in. They drop very quickly in value. In two years trade value on that EX will be $12 to $13k.

      Not really that low, more like $16-$18k. Im looking to get a 2015 Sonata Sport and cant find anything below $17k here in NJ. Hyundais and Kias depreciate at the same rate

    • @PhoenixPreferred
      @PhoenixPreferred 7 років тому

      jorge romani and that is after 1 year. So after 2 I am sure they will be less than 17k.

    Whats lame about Consumer Reports is how LONG it takes them to release full reports on new cars. I subscribe to them for thorough product reviews but the car area is way too slow when you're shopping for new cars.
    Even their other product reviews will feature older products that are not even available at stores anymore.
    This Quick Drive was released in November 2015 and now its already March 2016 and no full report.
    Four months to review one car? That gets a solid black circle from me.

    I test drove the 2016 Kia Optima as I have it 2011 and it felt as light and flimsy as a feather... , with my 2011 Optima at 30000 miles it rattled like an old jalopy! It was the only Kia I ever bought I'm never going back to them I've always had Nissan and Consumer Reports destroys every Nissan that I've read about they give it a lousy rating.

      Nissan isn't what it used to be. In the early 2000's, renault bought them & quality has taken a hit.

      Mine is a base model, LX, and I will say that it’s a lot better than the Equinox I was driving. It might be boring, but that’s also what makes it nice. It’s a clean style.
