I love your reviews! I just bought a 2016 kia optima on Wednesday, 12/28. So far I love it and it's my 3rd Kia!

FYI down by the aux and usb inputs the bottom of the compartment is a wireless charging pad. New android phones work without anything being done at all but iphones need a wireless charging case. My Note5 charged on our test drive.
These really are incredibly nice with features like laser guided CC, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, wireless charging, quilted nappa leather, 8" navi, massive panoramic sunroof, 360 cam, heated steering wheel, heated and ventilated fronts and heated rears, harmon kardon sound system, adaptive headlights, etc. Crazy any, let alone all, of those features being packed into a Kia.
We are still torn on it because it is a lot of money at $37,000ish. However our local dealer is offering a literal lifetime warranty with no mileage cap. So it makes the idea of a $500+ a month payment seem alot more digestible.

The fuel economy numbers are only possible when you drive gently... whatever EPA advertised numbers, expect about 1-2 MPG below for city driving. For highway, I'd say about the same if not better if you cruise a lot and not pass people often.

Great review as always. I recently traded in my 2011 Optima LX+ for a very lightly used 2015 Optima EX Lux just before the 2016's came out. I absolutely love the interior in the 16 especially with the quilted Napa leather. I noticed how the driver information display in the cluster is the same as my 2015, but now features a digital speedometer, a feature I really wish the '15 had. I feel like Kia did really well with the upgrades and changes with the car overall. The styling is rather toned down and definetly nowhere near as striking as the original, but retains a handsome look. Now, if only their dealership service was up to par with their products....
I have had this car for nearly 2 years with the 2.4L (EX Tech) and it is very fuel efficient! I would have to say I stick around 28 MPG (combined) during summer, and just under 25 during winter (I live in Canada). I can get near to 34MPG on the highway which is better than my old Forte! Best car I ever had and for under CAD $450 per month on a 48 month rental. Very good deal!

Great review as always and I like the chemistry between you and Melissa. Does the wireless charger also connect you to android auto? I want to get in my car, throw the phone on the charger and instantly start controlling it through the navigation screen. Is that possible?
Just learned the phone has to be plugged in in order for android auto to work.
very nice review Dave, one suggestion I got is to test the bare bones, basics model. not everyone has the cash to get the top modules, so is always good to see how much do you get for the least amount of money. The heated seats, we'll I live in Socal so it's something that I would never used, now ventilated yes but they always comes in the highest trim. Also speedometer should at 100mph max, everyone has 160 and it's just waste dashboard space since I will never go past 90, tires won't even take you past 130, that's why I like digital dashboards, your customized the way it better suits your needs, like I'll get rid of the tachometer. Mugs, we'll kia/hyundai always have had issues with this, so when looking at mom's I always look at the city and minus 1, that will be your real mpgs.

can you have the sxl model without the panoramic sunroof? i just think that huge sunroof is adding too much weight which makes the fuel economy average at best despite having turbo.
The LX 1.6T is faster and cheaper then the 2.0T but it won't have the leather or sun roof
The sunroof frame is carbon fiber to reduce weight. I would imagine the mpg penalty with the sunroof is about 0.00000000000001 mpg

how is the wind noise and road noise in the 2016? My 2012 SX is horrible and i'm looking to get rid if it.. I've heard that the new 2016 is better built and suspension is nicer and not and rough.. My 2012 is horrible in all aspects of wind, road noise and i feel every bump with suspension...
Tony F I bought a 2016 sxl today, it's very quiet. bumps aren't felt much at all. I had a 2012 sx force coup it was pretty rough. so far I'm loving it
I seen this car yesterday someone was driving one like it I was parked at the side of the road and they were driving on the opposite side it really stands out from far the LED lights and the front end looks lowered
So if I'm filling gas with the key in my pocket, will the trunk open just because I'm near it? Or are the sensors directed only towards the rear of the car?

It only works if your standing directly behind the car not the side.
The trunk should open all the way when you stand behind the car. What's the point of opening halfway when you have your hands full?

Love the husband/wife interaction. The one thing I wish Mr. Erickson would have talked about was how the car does in the weather he had it in. Did it do ok? Would he have wished for AWD? That perspective is near priceless I think.

I never thought you had a sense of humor. This video changed my mind. You're a cute couple! Yeah, the Optima is the best looking sedan in its class in my mind. However, I'd still probably pick the new Camry over this because of its bullet proof reliability and a higher resale value. But if I was to ever lease a vehicle again, it would be the Optima with the 1.6 engine.

+00 00 Those new 4 cylinder turbos don't really get better gas mileage than a good old V6, it's a shame that they are beeing replaced by many manufacturers. A V6 is smoother and sounds much better.

Double-O $¢rilla Most definitely. It is actually one of the better options than its competitors unless your sole requirement is a v6 engine and nothing else.
Double-O $¢rilla Yes I have the 2016 EX model and it has been extremely reliable. It's a great car all around and feels like a German luxury car which I feel is amazing.
Have had my 2016 EX Tech for almost 2 years and never had a single problem with it even tho I'm 24 and I sometimes push it a bit more than I should. Greatest car I've ever owned. 100% going for another Kia for my next car!

Optima is absolutely the most good looking car in the class, but I don't see any advantage about having the Kia optima.. The price is as the same as Toyota and Honda which are very reliable and credible. Kia still has a problem with reliability..
Kia offers a longer warranty than Honda and Toyota, which says something about their build quality.
Heartagram it's a trick. At 100,001 miles the Kia is trashed. at 100,001 mile honda and toyota are barely broken in.

Sia Mean thats total bullshit. even in the mid 2000s kia and hyundai were very reliable. my step mom bought an elantra in 2012 and they put 400 k miles on it and everything still works. they just sold it. not even bjrning a drop of oil.

Junito Lopez the cars are very reliable. any car manufacturer has duds. i had a 2012 sonata turbo traded it in at 200 k miles and nothing wrong. my step mom had a 2012 elantra and drove a huge amout for work and jjst traded it with 402 k miles and not a single thig ever wrong besides brakes and tires. hyundaks and kias have been reliablefor 15 years. they had some problems with the 2.0 turbo engine but they have been fixed
just buy Benz Kia still known to be cheap. only cheap people buy kia
