Danny Thomas FOUNDED St. Jude's. Danny is a true hero. He was one of, if not the BIGGEST Star in the World in the later 50's, with his Sitcom, Shows, and Guest Stars. He was actually asked to be a Ratpacker...but didn't have the time. It was called the Danny Thomas Show at first...then it became Make Room For Daddy. He started the St. Jude quest in the EARLY 60's, do that no child, no matter their faith, or race..would have great treatment to cancer...and at no charge. He gave up his career to build that hospital. Tell me he wasn't a great Man, and Mentor. God Bless Danny, his Wife, Marlo, and Phil Donahue, Marlo's husband. He dedicated his life to St.Judes too. My wife and I have supported St. Jude's Hospital every year since 2004.

Danny Thomas made a promise to God when he was very young and struggling financially. He promised God that if he made it in his career he would help others, he made it, and help them he did. A true gentleman and a very generous man. St. Jude's is the one and only charity that my husband and I support. It's a wonderful hospital doing so much good.

Steve. Danny Thomas was such a kind and generous man. He was instrumental also in the production of the Andy Griffith series as well. Many people are alive today because of St Jude's Hospital. May he rest with the angels for his great works at St Judes

Danny was awarded by the pope the highest award allowed by the Catholic Church in Rome He was a great man and should be made a saint. He was not selfish he cared above all for sick children facing death. He assembled 100 Lebanese catholic businessmen to get the financing needed to build this great hospital. Now that is a great person a great talent. He did not waste his life he used it to leave a great forever legacy above all he cared for those most in need. Young sick children. It’s hard to face death but what. Horror it is to fight for your life at 3 or 4 years of age. God bless Danny Thomas

I remember Make room for Daddy, and That Girl!! Love that Danny Thomas started St. Judes. My life's work was being an RN., and what he did for childhood cancer, and Marlo and other celebrities continue to do, is amazing. Families are NEVER given a bill!! God bless the children , and all those who support this hospital.

How profound a statement by Danny Thomas knowing St Jude’s was his reason to be on this earth. He was a true philanthropist and just all around good soul. I do support St Jude Hospital. What a wonderful legacy to leave behind! I was also a big fan of That Girl with Marlow Thomas. She inspired me as a young girl to realize I could be independent as a grown women in a time where girls were expected to grow up to be housewives and mothers not much else. I am grateful to stars like Marlow Thomas and Mary Tyler Moore who were examples in they’re characters on shows like theirs in the 1960’s and 1970’s to young women in America!

St. Jude is the patron saint of the impossible. From what I understand the story goes that Danny Thomas was playing night clubs and one night stands across the country. He wanted a job where he could be in one place to raise his family. His wife was Catholic and told him about St. Jude. So Danny Thomas made a vow to St Jude that if he could get a steady job in one place that he would build a hospital for children with cancer. Not too long after his promise he got his TV show. Steady work that kept him in one place. He kept is promise and the hospital became a reality.
Such a wonderful man. God Bless him in Heaven.

I was born in the early 60s so I didn’t see Danny Thomas much. However I remember THAT GIRL quite well as it was on the air for 5 years and then in reruns. Great show. I saw Marlo Thomas in 2011 in New York City. She was in a broadway performance. I understand that she’s very active at St. Jude hospital. She has tried to carry on in her father’s footsteps. Thank you for the video. I feel I’ve been to so many places now, yet I have not left my home. 😀

Another great vlog, Steve! The Pyramid was originally a concert & sports venue, The Elvis 25th Anniversary Concert was held there in 2002. Great video! Danny Thomas was an amazing guy and I read an article where he prayed to St Jude and promised that if he became successful he would do something wonderful and when he became famous this was what he did. I always donate to St. Jude, and have volunteered on telethons to raise money. There is also several people working to make Danny Thomas named a saint in the Catholic Church because he did a lot for many charities in the name of Catholic social justice. Also, finally, it should be pointed out that the Danny Thomas Show spawned the first successful spin off named the Andy Griffith Show, which never rated lower than in the top 10 the entire run (and was number one the year it ended). I'm not old enough to have seen any of these shows during their broadcast times but my mom's favorite show was the Andy Griffith Show and we watched the Danny Thomas Show where Andy Griffith was introduced.

The large pyramid you saw driving into Memphis was one of the largest Bass Pro Shops stores in the country. You might have noticed the company logo on the outside of the pyramid. The Memphis Pyramid was originally a basketball arena and convention center, the Memphis Grizzlies of the NBA played their first couple seasons there until their current arena was built. Johnny Morris, founder and owner of Bass Pro Shops, purchased the building in the early 2000's and converted into a Bass Pro store!

🐾loved his show. It his daughter Marlo, I thought her show was the best. She was an independent woman with the best clothes and the best boyfriend.😌

I definitely have donated to St Jude's Hospital. Really believe in this charity. I remember seeing Make Room For Daddy being on @ home but just in shadow. I was born in 1956 so I was there but it wasn't on my radar I guess.

Thank you for covering Danny thomas; david taylor's comment expresses my own sentiments perfectly. I expect we both remember daughter Marlo's '60's series "That Girl" also. i appreciate the Chet Atkins photo as well.

Thank you. I have been wanting to see this for years. I have been supporting St. Jude since a class project as a kid and I'm 44 now. The Bass Pro Shops are like museums for nature lovers. I visited the one in Missouri. Well worth visiting even if hunting, fishing, camping, and boating are not your thing. Again, thank you so much for this video.

I cried watching this , my heart is so touched by Danny Thomas and this wonderful hospital . Thank-you , Steve for sharing . Did you know that no parent ever receives a bill from St. Jude . They operate on donations alone. My husband and I are blessed to have given monthly donations for the past two years .
