I LOVED this comic, it shows how strong Luke was during this time, with little training he bested the grand inquisitor, who was stated (Word of God) to be almost equal to ventress (who could murk grevious when giving into the dark side in the clone wars), it just gives a really clear and nice scale for Luke during this time, making it easier to scale his progress, as well as Vader during this time.
@Gabriel Amadej You make great points, but the fact that most fans didn't like it, means it's "wrong". We are paying customers, are we not? I only say that because SW is owned by a corporation, now.
I like the idea that The Grand Inquisitor was able to become a force ghost because of his life as a gray force-wielder, and as an Inquisitor he created an entirely new version of it
I wonder if the Grand Inquisitor was ever set free. Was he free after Vader's death? Did a Jedi have mercy on him, and freed him somehow? Did he stay there forever?
I think when The Grand Inquisitior died his spirit split into 2. The light side that we say in Rebels and the dark side that we see now. In early drafts of Episode 7 Anakin was the same way where he split into Anakin and Darth Vader. That's what have me the idea.
Pos return of the jedi Luke become the stronger force user(yeah more than Palps and Yoda) ever so It would be really interesting Knowing more about his father, mother, Kenobi Ahsoka
I wonder if he will “retire” the yellow saber, like store it somewhere or if he will lose it or it be destroyed. Be cool if it’s just stored somewhere whenever he felt he could build his own.
He needs a blue crystal to add to the yellow. I wonder if he'll find his own piece of colorless kyber or if he'll re-purpose another saber. His RotJ hilt does imitate Obi-Wan's (although I'd prefer he do his own construction). Starting over with his own green crystal(s) feels like it would be a waste of this arc...unless the yellow gets tucked away for some other future force-user. Although I'm one of those who'd be happy to leave the Disney!trilogy its own thing. But it's also worth noting that in RotJ Luke says, "I no longer use yours [Anakin's lightsaber]." So maybe in comic!canon he will eventually reunite with Anakin's lightsaber pre-RotJ and perhaps borrow a crystal. That might be too complicated though considering the Skywalker lightsaber's future....
Definitely. "I hate the Force, I hate that it seems to have a will, that it would control us to achieve some measure of balance when countless lives are lost". - Kreia (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II)

10:45 In the background when Luke ignites his yellow blade.. Look it's that Jedi master that escaped from order 66 to hide as a server of food on the Death star.. He's still alive..... (Pray that no one ordered the Calamari).... Sorry couldn't help myself.. :D
Wow, so that line about there being worse things than death he said before jumping off that bridge after his fight with Kanan wasn't just a little philosophical one liner, it was actually referring to this all along. What a way to tie things up.
It’s brutal, it’s tough seeing this as the actual Luke Skywalker after the last Jedi, his character just seems so unlikable now. It’s insane what that movie has done
I agree, a lot of people belive Rise of Skywalker Is the worst movie of the Trilogy, but I really felt betrayed after the last Jedi. I never saw a movie demolishing a character like TLJ did with Luke
Ok, this new force ability to trap the spirit of someone feels the most like a Legends force power compared to everything else I've seen Disney put out.
This version of Luke is amazing! He is so hopeful and passionate about the Jedi! I wish we can see more of him! I’d follow him anywhere if I was in the Star Wars universe! :)
So, this takes place after the battle in Cloud City, and explains where Luke gets the crystal and key components for what would become his Green light sabre, yes?
So I guess in rebels when kanan fought him in the temple and he thanked him for having returned to his guardianship that was just the temple being fancy? Good to know.
They’re gonna have to explain this Grand Inquisitor thing. This is jacked up & will eat at me until I know how & why he’s suddenly trapped here after his spirit was in the Jedi temple in Lothal & trained Kanan & helped them all escape. Ahhhhh! Why do they do this to us???!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 😂🤣😂🤣
Maybe they found the inquisitors body still partially alive, and it got imprinted on an object like momin was imprinted...I mean, Vader should know all about force impression at this point.
"One quickly learns that the Jedi Code does not give all the answers. If you are to truly understand, then you will need the contrast, not adherence to a single idea." ―Kreia
The Grand Inquisitor here reminds me of the Nightsister spirits and their alter. The Grand Inquisitor seems to be on a plain between life and death similar to Mother Talzin was when she dissolved into the spirit realm, but the difference is that while he has control over when he appears to some degree, he is trapped/bound to the outpost like the sisters to the alter.
After watching the mandalorian season 2 trailer and what looks like I search for Jedi. It would be neat if this woman appeared in an episode of the mandalorian, it would only be roughly 7 years in the future so she would be alive still unless she’s been killed.
Dude the grand inquisitors entrance in rebels is so dope. How within a few moves he can tell who youve trained with or w.e and what form you use. N again a few episodes later right b4 kannan sacrifices himself to save ezra. The inquisitor jumps down from his ship even giving kannan compliments like "youve been practicing!" Lol he is a badass i wish he was still alive fr fr i really dug that guy
now i understand what the grand inquisitor meant that there are things far more frightening than death but still though, if he is over there how was he there in the jedi temple on lothal where he knighted kanan? weird right?
It's like with Lord Momin in the 2017 Vader comics. He's not so much a genuine Force Ghost so much as he is s consciousness bound to an item, or in this case a building.
In legends at least some Sith can preserve their consciousness As spirits Marka Ragnos is a famous example However a Sith Ghost is different from a Force Ghost To be a Force Ghost one must embrace death and preserve their consciousness after becoming one with the Force A Sith Force Ghost is one who resists death and separates from becoming one with the Force, to prevent losing their individuality, not able to find peace being separated from the Force as a whole Even if Palpatine was a ghost he would f be able to do much without a body In legends Palpatine resisted death any way he could, and used younger Clone Bodies of himself. The one thing TROS got right was Palpatine transferring his soul to clones to preserve his life in the physical world and be a threat
5th and dark side of the force users tend to be able to have a way past death but it usually requires them to imbibe themselves into an artifact like moment with his helmet and other sith with old sith swords and armor pieces and even talismans but it's like pretty much creating a cursed item and not so much their actual embodiment if any of this makes sense to you they pretty much require some outside force to manifest as opposed to a Jedi who can literally just manifest as a force ghost especially on planets that are very in tune with the light side of the force
@@christophersanchez7731 yeah. Other Legends examples would be Naga Sadow and Valkorian/Tenebrae/Darth Vitiate. Both were able to manifest as spirits, but unlike true Force Ghosts they could only interact with the physical world by possessing a body or other such vessel. The 2017 Vader comic also has Lord Momin, who only maintained himself by binding his soul to his helmet, which could be a similar principle to how the Grand Inquisitor was bound to the outpost by Vader.
Luke never swung at Ben, though? He ignited his lightsaber on defensive instinct when he sensed that Ben would destroy literally everything he had built and grown to love (which, hey, turned out to be entirely accurate), and even then, he immediately felt shame and regret for even having the instinct to violently defend the life he'd built over the decades. Seriously, can people please stop going on about this and acting like Kylo Ren's version of events is what actually happened?
He's not alive. He appears to be permanently caught in a state of undeath. His body reformed after being struck down by Luke. He's clearly not a fully corporeal being. My speculation is that Vader used the knowledge he gained from Lord Momin to permanently freeze the Grand Inquisitor's soul in the moment of its death (as Momin had intended to do to the population of an entire planet), and then bound that soul to the Jedi outpost on Tempes as a trap for any wayward or wannabe Jedi.
@@CyberController- he was nowhere near Tempess when he died, Bane's soul at least has a place he relates to (his coffin of course) But we'll have to wait for the official info
Dark side necromancy, it has similarities with the use of alchemy or ichor of Nighsisters, but it's the thing of Momin or maybe also Darth Bane. It's like selling soul to other being, making an eternal bond with something or someone. Then the soul can be consumed or used as servitor, famulus. Dark side stuff...
Verla’s comments about how the Force uses people kinda feels like Disney trying to address the hypocrisy and the horror of the Force in things like Knights of the Old Republic 2.
My speculation on the Grand Inquisitor's appearance here: We know that Lord Momin's original plan (before the Jedi stopped him) was to freeze an entire civilization in the moment of their death, immortalizing their moment of despair forever within the Force. Vader's castle was built using somewhat similar methodology, under Momin's guidance. Vader would have naturally learned how Momin's unique dark side architecture works during the construction, as he demonstrated knowledge of how to use it once he defeated Momin. And let's not forget where the Grand Inquisitor died. Over Mustafar, where Vader's castle is built. It's even possible that Vader was in his castle at the time of the Inquisitor's death. If he sensed the Inquisitor's defeat from within his castle, he may have utilized the castle's power to freeze the Inquisitor's death within the Force, as Momin had originally been planning to do to a planet. This would help explain the Inquisitor's crumbling, flaming appearance. It's also the best explanation I can think of for how Vader preserved the Inquisitor, but why he isn't able to bring back anyone else, such as Padme. It would have needed to happen in the moment of death, or close to it, and also probably required close proximity to Vader's castle. Regardless of the how, I was just really excited to see the Grand Inquisitor come back, and especially thrilled to see Luke finally have a lightsaber duel against another dark sider who wasn't Darth Vader. I also kind of feel like pointing out that Luke did pretty well for himself during the duel. Despite the Inquisitor's taunting about Luke's poor form, Luke was clearly dominating the duel until the Inquisitor used the second blade. "Agh!" "Hnh!" The Grand Inquisitor was audibly straining with each of Luke's attacks, and was visibly being driven back by Luke's blade up until he activated the second blade of his lightsaber. I feel the Inquisitor only had an edge because he was able to exploit Luke's lack of experience against such an unorthodox weapon. Of course, the fight was basically all over once Luke used the Force at all. At least, that's my observation.
I like how Vader discovered how to make people immortal, but he never told Palpatine.

Vader should have appeared to Kylo just like he did ro Cade Skywalker in Legends.
But damn, he really said "i don't kill defenseless UNCONSCIOUS people" jesus Disney, what have you done? 😂
@Gabriel Amadej You make great points, but the fact that most fans didn't like it, means it's "wrong". We are paying customers, are we not? I only say that because SW is owned by a corporation, now.
And he nearly killed his father in his rage in ROTJ

I like the idea that The Grand Inquisitor was able to become a force ghost because of his life as a gray force-wielder, and as an Inquisitor he created an entirely new version of it
I wonder if the Grand Inquisitor was ever set free. Was he free after Vader's death? Did a Jedi have mercy on him, and freed him somehow? Did he stay there forever?
Charles Soule is a master at foreshadowing so we'll find out
I hope there would be a comic where old Luke return and set free the Grand Inquisitor
Wow, Verla understood the philosophy of Kreia surprisingly well for one who never fully walked either the Jedi or Sith paths. Impressive!
I think when The Grand Inquisitior died his spirit split into 2. The light side that we say in Rebels and the dark side that we see now. In early drafts of Episode 7 Anakin was the same way where he split into Anakin and Darth Vader. That's what have me the idea.
So the Grand Inquisitor burned alive, redeemed himself through the force then was forcibly unredeemed by Vader, cool.
So I guess the original Luke Skywalker action figure is now canon.
“So strap on” poor choice of words friends.
Who else wishes that luke could have a tv show showing what happened leading up to return of the jedi?
Before Episode 4: Farming, before Epsiode 5: doing Rebel stuff, before Episode 6: Doing Rebel stuff while waiting for Lando and Chewie
Pos return of the jedi
Luke become the stronger force user(yeah more than Palps and Yoda) ever so
It would be really interesting
Knowing more about his father, mother, Kenobi
Ahsoka
Verla's starting to think like Kreia in the old EU.
So I’m assuming that Vader “planted” this vision in Luke’s head in order to lure him to Tempest?
No or else Vader wouldn't have communicated with his spirit. It's him, he's actually "alive".
@@greenbean2222 That, and Vader would have been waiting for him at Tempest rather than changing his mind mid-order elsewhere upon sensing the battle.
Vader has the grand Inquisitor soul trapped on that planet specifically in that archive
Vader manipulating the souls of the dead just added a badass dark side power to his arsenal
Now we need to see him go from yellow lightsaber to green
I've been waiting for that for so long honestly. I'd be happy to see him collect his hilt pieces to be honest.
Deleted scene from Return of the Jedi shows Luke building the Green Saber.
@@e.l.c.2322 Well what if Rey is the one that got the crystal from Luke at the temple and that's why she has the yellow one now.
Was anyone getting Kreia vibes from Virlla ?
Definitely.
"I hate the Force, I hate that it seems to have a will, that it would control us to achieve some measure of balance when countless lives are lost". - Kreia (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II)
Maybe she could be a descendant of kreia, or maybe she got her hands on a Sith holocron that had a part of Kreia's life force in it.
Maybe a less evil version of Kreia.
I have a strong feeling that Filloni had a hand in that reference.
@General Grievous didn't know that. I thought she still was, damn.
”There are worse things than death”
STRAIGHT OUT OF F--- STAR WARS REBELS!!
Gehenna
I would love to see the Grand Inquisitor in another comic
4:18
"At last you understand" - Kreia
“There are some things far more frightening then death.”
I love that. He's basically trapped in the fires he fell into in Rebels. Forever tormented to feel the flames burning his skin and body apart.
Really, I was happier assuming he was dead...........poor, poor Grand Inquisitor. I wonder how Kanan would react seeing his nemesis this way, especially after dueling a vision version of him created by Yoda. I wonder how they'd interact.,....
Verla’s belief seem like a precedent for Lucasfilm to recanonize Darth Kraya, her hatred for the force qmd her love for The Exile
@@paolopesare3566 *Worst Star wars movie of All Time
These are the kind of stories that the live action star wars needs
The sequel movies really did dirt to Luke, the comics should stay away from the events for that
"You have no idea what you've unleashed here today. There are some things far worse than death" this is what he meant and he was not lying
R2D2 is the real hero. He's saved the day way more times than any other character in Star Wars.
Ok, this new force ability to trap the spirit of someone feels the most like a Legends force power compared to everything else I've seen Disney put out.
Even though he was an Inquisitor, I still think he deserved better.
This women is basically a less developed and less experienced version of Kreia who also hated and wanted to destroy the force
The Grand Inquisitor is actually pretty cool, wish he had more screen time
This version of Luke is amazing! He is so hopeful and passionate about the Jedi! I wish we can see more of him! I’d follow him anywhere if I was in the Star Wars universe! :)
this feels kinda Darth Sion esc just in the opposite way. Sion stayed alive thru rage, it looks like the grand inquisiter stays alive thru suffering
that guy with a long neck in the background at 10:48 has the best facial expression i've ever seen
Im glad they made the Grand Inquisitor remain "alive"
So, this takes place after the battle in Cloud City, and explains where Luke gets the crystal and key components for what would become his Green light sabre, yes?
So I guess in rebels when kanan fought him in the temple and he thanked him for having returned to his guardianship that was just the temple being fancy? Good to know.
Ikr
Exactly
Luke with a yellow lightsaber? That’s awesome!!
I wish more characters would have yellow sabers
They’re gonna have to explain this Grand Inquisitor thing. This is jacked up & will eat at me until I know how & why he’s suddenly trapped here after his spirit was in the Jedi temple in Lothal & trained Kanan & helped them all escape. Ahhhhh! Why do they do this to us???!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! 😂🤣😂🤣
What happened in the Lothal temple was a vision, none of that was real
Her: THE FORCE IT'S A TRICK
Luke: Ok but where can I get a lightsabber?
Maybe they found the inquisitors body still partially alive, and it got imprinted on an object like momin was imprinted...I mean, Vader should know all about force impression at this point.
So we've gotten to the Marvel/DC point where everybody cam be recycled for future comics and the deaths don't matter?
"One quickly learns that the Jedi Code does not give all the answers. If you are to truly understand, then you will need the contrast, not adherence to a single idea."

Man I wished Kanan Jarrus would’ve atleast appeared

"Thier are far more worse things than death." - Grand Inquisitior to Caleb Dun
Thank you Bessy!
Hello there
Hello Anakin!
This would explain where Leia got her yellow crystal in Ep 9....if only it were canon.....
I forgot she had a yellow one.
Plot Twist: Luke had still been wet when he was shocked by R2, therefore dying due to electric shock
Thanks so much for making these! Your voice is really good for comic reading by the way!
“There are fates worse than death.”
Still hyped to see Luke go through his trials.
Verla reminds me of Kreia. Both hate the Force, suffered and had to hide because of it. They even look sorta similiar
Let’s dive into it! (Luke Skywalker is currently rescued by R2D2 in water)
Verla feels like the missing piece that linked Luke to his stage as a reclusive hermit
F for the grand inquisitor.
May the Force be with all of you!
now i understand what the grand inquisitor meant that there are things far more frightening than death but still though, if he is over there how was he there in the jedi temple on lothal where he knighted kanan? weird right?
Year old comment but that version of the Grand Inquisitor wasn't real, it was just a vision conjured by Yoda.
7:40 i love it when shuttles board darth vader
Wait, hold up: a dark side force ghost? If dark side force ghosts can be a thing, why didn't they just make Palpatine a ghost in TROS 🤦
This one apparently can only exist as a slave to the living Dark Side user that summoned them. Not really the same as actual Force Ghosts.
It's like with Lord Momin in the 2017 Vader comics. He's not so much a genuine Force Ghost so much as he is s consciousness bound to an item, or in this case a building.
In legends at least some Sith can preserve their consciousness As spirits
Marka Ragnos is a famous example
However a Sith Ghost is different from a Force Ghost
To be a Force Ghost one must embrace death and preserve their consciousness after becoming one with the Force
A Sith Force Ghost is one who resists death and separates from becoming one with the Force, to prevent losing their individuality, not able to find peace being separated from the Force as a whole
Even if Palpatine was a ghost he would f be able to do much without a body
In legends Palpatine resisted death any way he could, and used younger Clone Bodies of himself.
If he's in constant pain, that reminds me of how Vader is in constant pain with his suit, too
Defenless people ?? Baa he be swing at sleeping people and still fails
I do not consider the sequel version of Luke as canon.
Damn, the grand inquisetor is victim to some dark sith sorcery.
Does that mean that their could actually be first order inquisitors?
No. The First Order came from the military and political part of the Empire, the part not related to the spiritual side (the Sith vision about Force)
I think him being on fire is a reference to how he died in rebels by falling into the burning hyper-drive
OH, COME ON!!!! HE WAS KILLED BY KANNAN, HE CAN'T BE ALIVE!!!!
he did warn kanan there are worst thing than death, he probably know that dead isn't the end for him
He's not alive.
"Somehow, the Grand Inquisitor returned!"
I wanna know how can somebody bring back spirits from the dead, I hope Disney explains it someday
Maybe his spirit is bound to the temple, like how Bane's spirit was bound to his coffin.
They don’t know either.
Verla’s comments about how the Force uses people kinda feels like Disney trying to address the hypocrisy and the horror of the Force in things like Knights of the Old Republic 2.
This guy said “strap on” instead of “strap in”....
My speculation on the Grand Inquisitor's appearance here:
We know that Lord Momin's original plan (before the Jedi stopped him) was to freeze an entire civilization in the moment of their death, immortalizing their moment of despair forever within the Force.
