    I love the idea of historical hairstyles, especially ones that aren't the usual 18-19th c stuff. This video gave me so many giggles - thank you!

    Yessss, thank you for spreading the knowledge of these truly bonkers headdresses! It is on my list of future projects for sure. I can't imagine what working women must have thought, watching the wealthy walk around in these quivering towers of starch!

      Stunning! I need to make one now and yes please post a video of the hairdo! I’m thinking it’s a crown of braided hair, supplemented with a large donut of hair, with ribbon woven through it to really anchor it into place. Easy when they all had maids and dressers to handle the mounting. How did you do it solo?

      I think the working class women probably thought they looked like complete idiots. Same for the men with their enormous periwigs. But you didn't dare laugh at your betters.

    If Rocky Horror was more baroque-ish rather than victorian-ish, this would be part of Magenta costume

      OH MY GOD NOW I WANT TO DO THAT SO MUCH. (Although I'm more of a Frank than a Magenta in style preferences...)

    I love crazy, over the top eccentricly gorgeous things! and this beautiful piece is up my alley! I am for sure going to make one of these in the future possibly a variety. and thank you for the links the 30 yards of cotton lace for just 13$ is a super awesome deal for my sewing budget. I'm definitely going to take advantage of that price offer. the lace looked very lovely and i love that it's a small size and would be perfect when i do my miniature costume project pierces or tiny cute details

      Fellow future fontange maker, whoohoo!! Glad the link was useful! I was surprised, actually, at how many cotton lace options were available over there. It's definitely handy for a lot of things!

    I absolutely LOVE it!! Thank you so much! I always hated those things until I actually got into reading 17th history, now I think they're great (if still weird). Your Marie Angelique silent was fabulous though poor Marie Angelique didn't stay in favor with Louis for long. The Roi soon put her in a convent and she died not long after. 🥰 ❤ 💚

      Whooo! I had an inkling you would ;) LOL yeah, they are totally weird, but like the 1830's, that's part of the charm for me. I'm glad you liked the silent bit, I had a lot of fun with that 🤐
      Her story is actually kind of sad :( I'm glad that at least she has a legacy.

    I’ve seen some depictions of this sort of cap having ties that you wrap around your head. The tension keeps it up. Prior attire has a video with that soft of construction.

    Hehe, I love how ridiculous this is. And how ridiculous you are about it. More people need to be silly, I think it would improve life for everyone if more people took themselves less seriously. I giggled the whole time too.

    I am wondering something… (I am neither a history nor a hair expert) but my first thought was - I wonder if there were two hats/layers of fabric?? 🤔
    Like this - attach mad hat thingy, pile some or all of the hair on top to secure (with pins etc), then add another plain (unfanned) hat/piece of fabric on top of that? And pretty up that for show, hiding the ‘foundation’ underneath? Do you see what I mean?
    You are such fun! 😊 And fun is so very, very important. 🤡Thank you for all you share. 🙏🫶💝

      As far as your question goes, all the extant examples and primary sources I've found have described it as one piece. That being said, it's not a bad idea 🤷‍♀️

    these are totally ridiculous😂. I can see the whole church analogy, and it kind of looks like the pope's hat (yeah, I have no clue what that's called). but from the pictures at the beginning, I thought it looked more like the Leaning Tower of Pisa! well, that's another bit of knowledge in my noggin, that I'm never likely to need again😂😂😂

    • @FantasticalFolliesCostuming
      @FantasticalFolliesCostuming  Рік тому +1
