And amazing time. This video was filmed in New Orlean in 1983. I was twenty three years old, ZZ’s guitarist, and musical director until his death in 1984. Thanks for posting.
This is my FIRST time seeing any live footage off ZZ!!! Thank you so much!!! Because of my grandmother, i damn near know every ZZ song there is. Now that I'm an adult, i can appreciate ight because as a kid i was singing along but had no clue what i was singing. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Beautiful footage of this man! Wow, he's got like 15+ musicians with him (that's how to bring a dynamic live sound)! RIP to ZZ HILL: Never forgotten, thanks for your music!
One of my all time favorite songs! I work as a cab driver in Las Vegas, and I play Blues music EVERY NIGHT! I first heard this song back in the 80s, when I went to see comedian Robin Harris (famous for "Bebe's Kids"). This is the song that played as he took the stage. Like ZZ Hill, Robin also died too young.
Wow, I was beginning to think there was no video of ZZ. What an enduring catalog of songs, and so many of them were witty. I particularly love the line from Somebody Else is Steppin In, "I got a new way of wearin' my hair, I got a smile on my face, and you didn't put it there."
The biggest blues record of my lifetime (born in 1979) so far. Almost singlehandedly put the genre back on the map and made Malaco a legit player as a record label. Kinda tragic watching this...ZZ had toiled for 15+ years and FINALLY was coming in to his own after Down Home became a big hit. And just a few months after this concert, he was gone.
I enjoyed him why he was here he signed this in Pascagoula Mississippi Jackson Mississippi Mississippi he was on his Down Home Blues tour rest in peace ZZ Hill I would never forget you remember when you left in April he was headed back to Texas three weeks after that you have had a heart attack you left this world I keep the memories in my heart
Thank you so much for this extremely rare footage of ZZ Hill. I must ask: is this after his automobile accident? He died about 2 months after the accident when a blood clod traveled to his brain and took his lifw,
You might have a point there im been listen and watching him first time i saw what you talking about. You have a blessed day. Keep your faith and god loves you. Im roberts mom
I had the pleasure of working with ZZ in 1970 working out of Athens Georgia with the Bettye Swann review it was a nice dude could really sing back then I asked him what did the ZZ stood for he said to me in a Gruff voice i can't tell you that. I was the bass player big Paul Cancil was the drummer and singer Jimmy Lytle was the keyboardist Melvin was the guitar player I really enjoyed those times I'm Walter Harris.
And amazing time.
