Considering the same projector in the same kind of room with total light control. Questions: What is the throw distance from projector to screen? what is the screen size? and did you calibrate the projector - and if so did the calibration affect the total light output? Thanks for the info!

This projector is approximately 19ft back from the screen. The screen in the video is a 120". The image was not professionally calibrated in the video, it was just using one of the "Cinema Film" presets within the projector for the video mode.

@@amp-av Thx. How do you feel with how the projector deals with very dark scenes such as in the movie 1917? Do you feel too much detail is lost?

@@marvinabugov4579 This projector simply performs better than anything in this price range in overall contrast and color contrast. It's possible there is a minute amount of detail lost in dark scenes, but it's not due to the projector or screen, but the shortcomings of projection in general. This screen handles dark scenes a million times better than a white screen, and a white screen, when used in a pitch black room, can handle the brighter scenes better than a dark screen. My opinion is that no, the dark scene details are not lost in a dark room on this screen.

@@amp-av Thx for the info. Much appreciated. Meanwhile, Vlogger Shane Lee with Value Electronics is going to do a shootout in December involving the x5000 / 7000 projector vs other competitors. JVC has already issued a firmware update to deal with its most recent laser projectors to deal with some shortcomings. JVC does Base-Black better than Sony right now according to some shootouts done last spring between Sony and JVC. Sony had challenges with base-black (1917 movie) at the time (see MWAVE shootout) so I am waiting to see what Sony does, if anything, for the VE shootout (delayed from October) which is now scheduled for this December. Glad you are enjoying your projector. My 285es is a treat - but projector tech has moved on to the point where I think its time for an upgrade. Sony’s weight and size are perfect for my application on a back-of-room bookshelf. JVC is a bit too big and too heavy to consider for my use case.

@@marvinabugov4579 I am contemplating getting this projector (XW5000) to upgrade the Sony vw45es 1080p I have had for about 4 years. I have it on a bookshelf in the back of my room. I am quite happy with it but I want a true 4k projector (no pixel shifting, no DLP), and the XW5000 is the least expensive of the Sony and JVC offerings. The XW5000 is being offered this week(black Friday) for $5,498 at some places. Should I? I figure I am already used to the clunky adjustments as that is what my current Sony uses too for alignment.

My screen is also gray from Elite Screens Aeon line. It allows me to enjoy sunday football without having to darken the room too much.
