    Hey everyone, thank you so much for watching and feel free to comment your thoughts. Please take the review with a grain of salt. These are not calibrated Projector’s, we simply did as many adjustments as we could with the factory remote controls. Both projectors will be greatly impacted by professional Calibration. This was done at an event where we were limited on time. The Jvc is on display in our Frisco show room and as soon as we get our 6000 ES, we will Calibrate each unit and do another calibrated review comparison. One of these projectors is not better than the other, they each have their pros and cons and they are both phenomenal units in this price range. You will not be unhappy with either Projector. That is guaranteed. I would highly recommend professional Calibration services for each. If you’re looking to purchase one of these units and get it professionally installed and calibrated, feel free to reach out. Divineavinc@gmail

However, currently own the Sony VPL-VW915ES and I was really interested in knowing whether to exchange it for the VPL-XW7000ES or just keep it. Thanks for the comp! Would love to see a 6000 v NZ8 comp! The JVC colors looked really pushed on greens -- especially in the forest. But there was an overall green tint even in the rocks and other sections. Is that something you saw in person or just in the way the video captured? Also, edge focus and overall sharpness and detail seemed to heavily favor the Sony. Did you just change my mind on my next PJ?!? :-)

    • @DivineAV
      @DivineAV  2 роки тому +2

      Fantastic observation. We did see that in person but I can tell you that after spyder X Calibration on our last NZ7 installation, we found out to be corrected. I think that out of the box the Sony is a little bit more dialed in but the Jvc can definitely step up a couple of notches with professional calibration. We have an installation with the JVC coming out soon on our channel.
      Not sure if we will do the NZ eight comparison anytime soon but it’s possible.

    Sony engineers are definitely doing something special with the image processing. The only thing that bothered me-in terms of color accuracy-was the pink tint on the Sony is very noticeable, especially on skin tones and the rose-color pearls. Is that something that can be corrected, or was it a result of the camera exposure? What did you guys see? Anyway, I really enjoyed the side to side comparison.

    • @DivineAV
      @DivineAV  2 роки тому +7

      That was a little bit of camera exposure but we definitely did see a bit of a pink hue on the Sony and a bit of a green hue on the Jvc. They will both definitely benefit from actual color calibration using something like a spider X elite. All we did was gamma, brightness, contrast, reality creation, E shift and a few other minor things. These are not calibrated projectors. We just made a few hand adjustments. From our experience with the 715 ES and previous generation JVC models, with proper Calibration, we don’t see any of those issues

  • @tyrre8060
    @tyrre8060 2 роки тому +4

    Great video, very interesting for sure. On the JVC did you have the 8k shift on? On the Sony did you have RC on? What lamp modes did you run each at? And finally, why did the JVC look a touch warmer in color tones vs the Sony if both images were calibrated? What sort of gear did you use to calibrate the images?

    • @DivineAV
      @DivineAV  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you so much for watching, yes we had the 8k Eshift on. As for the Sony we did have reality creation on at about 40%.
      All hand calibration with a few verifications with an x-rite pro. These are all basic settings and no color calibration was done to the units. Both of them could benefit from some thing like a Spyder X elite. These images are what you should expect on a 1.1 gain acoustically transparent screen and minor adjustments by hand.

      @mnewm21 2 роки тому +1

      @@DivineAV Have you turned the shift off? The 8k shift causes a slight softness or almost blur to the image with upscaled content. I have seen it in person myself and it nearly put me off purchasing the JVC. I asked them how they had it setup and they said it had 8k shift on and when it was turned off the difference in sharpness was noticeable. A few other reviews had mentioned it which was why I asked. Try turning it off and see if you also notice the difference? I am curious.

Turn off the 8K e-shift (which is really not needed) and it will get quieter still. 3. Get Spears and Munsil UHD HDR Benchmark or some equivalent calibration material and use it to tune the projector for your theater’s environment. Hey there, yeah we will have a video coming out on the 5000 Es shortly. We didn’t compare the two but just from what I saw, the 6000 is tremendously better as far as black contrast goes. Colors were still great on the 5000, sharpness was very nice, brightness is obviously quite a bit higher on the 6000. We did lose powered lens shift on the 5000. Other than that the 5000 is a slightly upgraded 325 ES. Same physical design as the 6000es

    Love your vids guys. REALLY stupid question from a TV person moving to Projector.. I know what eShift is but what is reality creation from Sony? I'm looking at the NZ7 since it can scale up to 8k using E-Shift but is Sony the same thing (upscaling)? On your demo the Sony definitely looks better but I'd like a bit of future proofing and the HDMI 2.1 port is pushing me towards the NZ7. Thanks!

    • @DivineAV
      @DivineAV  2 роки тому +2

      It’s not the same thing, but they both affect the image dramatically. Each shift is actual shifting to emulate 8K resolution and reality creation sharpens the image in certain areas using artificial intelligence. Reality creation tends to help more when watching content like Netflix or UA-cam etc. That’s why sometimes it appears that the Sony is sharper but when you’re watching proper content, the JVC will match or surpass in clarity. If you’re not too far away, feel free to send us an email and we can schedule a phone call to discuss the two units with one of our consultation experts. We can get you either one. Firstly, thank you for the review - I am in RI, and without traveling 4+ hours to New York or similar, there isn't a showroom around that I could see either of these projectors in person...
    That said, I am very interested in your perception of the black levels - other shootouts have praised JVC's black levels being far superior to that of the Sony, but you see the opposite. In general, those reviews have made me worried the Sony would fail to impress... I am coming from a non-SXRD or D-ILA (coming from Optoma projectors) so my initial thought was, "it will all be way better" but then I got worried the Sony would still leave me wanting.
    Other shootouts have given the nod to JVC based on their impressive built in tone mapping, where apparently the Sony lags behind... however, I am building a Capture PC that will run MadVR (i.e. similar to the MadVR Envy... just homemade) so tone mapping isn't a deal breaker for me. The greatly improved sharpness of that lens on the Sony though...
    In the end, what matters most is going to be the Sharpness, the contrast, the brightness, and the color reproduction. So in your opinion, taking the tone mapping out of it, you are thinking Sony over the JVC it would seem. (for all those that said NX8 would be a tighter comparison, it just so happens that there seems to be a subconscious line that is drawn for me somewhere between the $11,500 price of the Sony 6000, and the nearly $17,000 price of JVC NX8... I just can't do it... so the NX7 to XW-6000 to me is the proper comparative, both within the same price range, and one that both my subconscious and conscious mind will actually let me proceed with.)
    I also appreciate you running this on an acoustically transparent screen, as I am in the same boat and worried they would not be bright enough for this application. I will be on a 150" fabric XYScreen SoundMax 4k - very similar to Elite AcousticPro UHD, so figure about 80% brightness. Were you on a Microperf or a fabric screen?

      Hey boss, I see your point but we compared these two units because the price point is almost the same. People don’t care which model in the line up, they care about what they get for the money. We have a lot of experience in the industry. Over 4000 clients in dfw. We did not calibrate the colors because we wanted to show what they are capable of out of the box. Also, colors and contrast may be improved with calibration but certainly not resolution.
      Your theory on inventory is a bit off. The Sony units are not even released yet… we can’t get them until May or June. We have the JVCs now and installed one yesterday. With calibration it looked great at the clients home but there is no hiding that the Sony has better overall clarity. We don’t push any particular brand and we are no BS which is why we just gave it to you how we saw it. Thanks for the comment brother.

      I am of the same opinion. You can't compare colors if they don't have the same calibration. Moreover, the calibration won't change the sharpness but the parameters linked to the processor will. It is enough that an option like the clarity motion is engaged on the sony and not the equivalent on the JVC. In short, a comparison is not made out of the box, but by going through a calibration and settings for the 2 projectors.

      @@Wallaswilliam without a doubt, everyone needs to take this comparison with a grain of salt. Both projectors have basic hand adjustments using the factory remote controls, no color calibration was done to either unit. The Jvc would definitely benefit a lot from a spyder elite calibration using auto cal. The Sony would also benefit from similar Calibration. Reality creation was set to 40% on the Sony and 8KE shift was on for the JVC and turned to the maximum setting. We had the gamma set to Cinema 2 on the Jvc and made it look as good as we could. The Jvc is on display in our show room and the settings have not been changed since the video. Anyone is welcome to come and check it out in person. It is certainly better in person. We literally just sold one and the client is very happy. There’s definitely benefits to both projectors. You will see a video coming out on our channel with the NZ7 installation. Nice review, however the comparison is a bit quick in my opinion and does not take into account certain technical aspects:
    Sony was parameterize with RC at 40% (strong sharp).
    RC is a software sharp, not natural sharp (optical). You like or not, personally I don't. I think RC is to strong and give an overly numerical image with noise and artefacts, a harsh picture, sometimes artificial if it is set to high. Sony owners spend their time fiddling with sliders following the movie. I prefer something natural and very precise.
    Without RC, I think JVC is in front in term of natural sharpness. Textures are finer and the image is homogeneous over the entire surface. It's very easy to realize it on a windows desktop for example. It's clear everywhere.
    It is certain that JVC's internal image processing (sharp) should be improved but with a good scaler like madvr it is clearly better than Sony from my point of view and once the right sharp values have been found, it works on all films.
    You also activated Eshift on the JVC but you should not on the Nz7 because it is blurring the picture (On Nz8 and Nz9 it is different because it use eshiftX).
    No 120hz, smaller matrix than previous models (0.61") and 54mm lens on Sony // 120hz, 0.69" and 65mm (full glass) + 8K inputs for JVC.
    No 100% DCI capable for Sony (95% for XW7000) // 100% DCI capable for JVC
    Still no DTM for HDR on Sony! // Perfect DTM for JVC (JVC frame adapt HDR - one of the best for projectors)
    No autocal software on Sony // JVC autocal software for SDR AND HDR on JVC (On AVS there also exist a tweak to use the i1d3 instead of the datacolor SpyderX which give you far better results, near perfect!)
    Manual lens focus and shifting on Sony for XW5000 but motorized for X6000 and above // Fully motorized lens on JVC
    Only the price of the Sony is very interesting but my global opinion is that previous generations have better specs. There is clearly nothing new. From my POV it's a downgrade to sell a projector at a correct price due to the current context.
    If I have the money, I go for JVC. it's a more durable purchase
    Just a small suggestion for next comparaison, could you please calibrate both projectors? It is impossible to correctly compare without a correct calibration.
    Also the image of the JVC looks really blurry, that's clearly not what I saw. Are you sure everything was correctly setup?
    I also see that you didn't do the convergence setting on the JVC. It is very noticeable on the "4K HDR" logo in the part with the bride. Bad focus + bad convergence = bad sharpness
    Also keep in mind that you are comparing a stock JVC with a pre-demonstration model sorted from Sony which therefore offers the best of what you can hope for in reality ;)
    Anyway I liked your review, especially the dual screen setup! Keep going ;)

    The comparison should use factory default settings, not the calibration, or use best calibration setting in each one. I think the videos shows Sony better is the calibration problems, making JVC worse. JVC color is way too saturated at that particular calibration setting while Sony looks more natural in that particular setting. In the same calibration setting eg 50, Sony is much better, but if the setting all set to 80, JVC may looks far better. for SDR what was the standard nit target? 12-16fl?
      I am struggling to understand the point in evaluating very expensive projectors in such a way.

      What number was the brightness and contrast set to on the JVC?

    Calibrated by hand...not sure what that means. Can you elaborate? Also, the 6000ES and NZ8R are more in line competitors from a specs perspective.. I think I'd take the JVC NZ7 and save some money, plus get HMDI 2.1 future-proofing, 8k shift, and the excellent frame adapt feature. The Sony looks very nice...just curious about what tools were used for calibrating. The SDR blooming seemed off.

      Hey my brother, literally just hand adjustments using the factory remotes. The Sony was a loaner unit and the JVC is owned by us. We were not going to fully calibrate someone else’s projector. We will do a calibrated review using proper display units when we receive our actual Sony unit. Both projectors will dramatically benefit from proper calibration. We compare these units because they are only $1000 apart in price range. I agree with you spec wise.

    One thing you might consider... since you have the NZ7 in store, why noy calibrate the unit to see if you achieve overall improvements? One of the criticisms I'm hearing repeated, was the test was not fair because the NZ7 was not set up properly and required some more advanced calibration attention. Then again, maybe that particular NZ7 demonstrates some undesirable unit variance. Please consider working on that NZ7 to see if you can achieve any improvements over your previous setup. Maybe you want to wait for your official xw6000es production sample? Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing a rematch. ;)

      Yeah I totally agree with you. The JVC units shine with Calibration. I do plan on doing a calibrated review on both projectors as soon as we get our 6000. One thing I’m a little irritated about is that I can’t use my i1 basic Pro 3 for the JVC. I’ll have to dig up my pro2 or Spyder.

    The 4K 120p on JVC is a killer tho (for us gamers at least).

      Indeed. We have sold many JVC‘s for that reason. We were testing at the other day on call of duty PS five. It was pretty sweet
