  • Bob Schmidt shows you when using a table saw, mitre saw or a power saw, the blade rotation pretty much dictates the best way to run your material through. To get the cleanest cut possible.

Thanks for the tips, Bob. You couldn't have posted this video at a better time, as I'm currently working on a few wooden projects of my own. Thanks again!

Easy to understand and you explain it very well! Just made a desk for one of the kids and was telling him these reasons. Got him to watch this as well!

@sonicseaweed , you havent used a circular saw then. I cut large pieces of finished panels for kitchen plus countertops. Finished side ALWAYS down. Give it a try, you'll find out for yourself. Good Luck.

And maybe mention the stunning improvement in cut quality that a good blade will make; even on a cheaper saw. Put a good 80 tooth carbide tipped blade on a cheap benchtop table saw, and be amazed at the crosscuts that will result; both on the top AND bottom of the piece you're sawing. But use a cheap-o blade on the best saw ever, and you still won't get good results.

Hi Bob, just watched your vid and would state that I very much like the stuff you show. However, I have to agree with what sonicseeweed is saying in regard to the direction of your blade. All circular saws, as far as I'm aware, cut downwards at the front (from the users overhead cutting position)....in you vid you rotate your own blade anti-clockwise which means the blade is coming upward at the front (the front of your saw is on the right of the picture), which is surely incorrect? If you watch another of your vids (in regard to cutting straight lines with a circular saw) you show the exact same saw rotating clockwise....which makes sense. Anyway, only saying. Ta

Yeah! Very informative! And, you got rid of the music, and edited!
I'm getting ready to by some sort of power saw. I'm thinking circular and eventually mitre. Can you tell me what to be looking for when I go to buy???

@rockycon1967 Your first comment is finished side UP> Your second comment is finished side always Down> Your second comment is what I said in the video. Hmmmm +++Bob

I think that I disagree about the circular saw. Because you are pushing the saw forward, the blade makes contact with the top layer first and then exits through the bottom, so you want the finished side up.
