Which these 3 methods would you say are the straightest and most accurate as I’m looking to joint several edge to edge 8 FOOT LONG pieces of 1x6 boards together to make thin sliding hanging closet doors using a router Was looking at a Kreg Straight Edge Guide similar to that Swanson you got or simply clamping an 8ft Empire Level, as well but after seeing that 100in Swanson one you got I’m considering this option as I like how thin and easier to clamp it is aside from a long level is $$
Matt, I’m a 70 year old intermediate carpenter. I recently started building the patio coolers you see on UA-cam. I built my first one as a gift for my daughter, then orders came in. I charged $300. For the first one, now they say my prices are too low. I made about $100.00 per cooler. Now I charge $350.00 and I built two more. Your advice was encouraging and I was amazed that they would pay that. I use premium cedar that only Home Depot has. It’s up to $15.00 per board. They want more projects. That’s to you, I’ve the courage to move on. Thanks and God bless.
I laughed so hard every time you said: "BREAK DOWN." You need to be on TV. Not only do you provide knowledge in a clear and easily understandable way, but you're also extremely entertaining. That's hard to do. Most UA-camrs struggle with doing just one of those things well. You excel at both.
That first technique is so awesome. I'm learning and teaching myself mostly but have been getting annoyed at my sometimes wonky circular saw cuts. Heading to local hardware store tomorrow to get a big level! Thanks from down here in new Zealand. Looking forward to watching more of your videos

So I just got my Kreg Rip-Cut jig a few days ago to work on a cabinet/pantry project I'm doing for the wife. HOLY CRAP! This thing was so easy to use, took about three minutes to set up, and I was getting very accurate 13" and 14" cuts across eight feet. So glad I watch your videos.
Been binge watching your videos. Just got a new house and I’m building all of the end tables, night stands and coffee table. Still building my tool collection so not having a table saw (yet) is a real pain. Thank you for all the great videos
I just bought a Kreg Rip Cut this past weekend after watching you use it often. OMG! Love this tool! I feel so much safer using it versus trying to cut 3/4 plywood on my table saw by myself. Thanks Matt!
Matt, you really helped me with this. I do not have a table saw or a workbench yet. I am using saw horses as a platform. I sadly purchased big box lumber that came with its usual host of issues. I needed to take 1/4 inch off the edge of my boards and I used your method of measuring from the blade to my cut line and securing a straight edge. Simply brilliant. Thank you, I always look forward to your videos.
Swanson straight edge is on clearance right now for $19.98. Literally went to my Lowe's 10 min ago and purchased one thanks to this video!! Went to get a Kreg but couldn't beat the price of the Swanson!! I have learned sooooooo much from your videos Matt!! You are such an inspiration to me!!
Excellent tip. I am a beginner level weekend woodworker and I did not know about the swanson straight edge. I wanna add that if, for any reason, you made a slanted cut, use a drywall T-Square to make sure you have a straight line drawn perpendicular (90 deg) to a factory edge and use a straight edge to make a cleaning cut to get the slanted cut out.
Looked at several “how to cut straight line with circular saw”. Yours was the best. Ordered the Kreg saw guide. I tried the level method. I obviously didn’t get it right. Thanks!
Love the videos! Because of you, my wife has asked me to build a farmhouse coffee table and end table. Going to use your videos to do it. Thanks so much for everything you do. God bless
Awesome video! I was about to take the Craig Rio cut back because I didn't think it worked with my saw and you just saved me a trio to home depot. Thank you so much!!
Man that was so awesome. Thanks for presenting this info In a confident yet humble tone. I'm a total newbie and the last thing I want is to feel like I can't do it. Thanka for making it so straightforward
I've got to piece of angle iron one 4.5 ft other is 8.5 ft my great grand father used them and passed them on Down to my grandfather which ended up with me I use them regularly but I do like the kreg jig as well
The Kreg RipCut is an excellent tool. I have one and use it with my little Ryobi One Plus Circular Saw. I don't use it a lot now since I bought the Kreg Adaptive Cutting System for around $1000, but before I had that, it did a great job in getting my plywood square and accurate.
Great stuff. I am building a cabin with my son and either I am getting older or my Makita 36v is not cutting as straight. That 3rd tool is going to be magic when we start sheathing and need all sorts of crazy cuts.
Another tip is to measure the distance from the blade to the edge of your saw and cut a piece of plywood that width. When you need to make a cut you place the cut piece of plywood next to your pencil marks. You then put your straight edge next to the plywood and tighten your straight edge down. No measuring needed after making the plywood spacer/jig. Make sure and mark it as " Jig Do not Throw Away".
Wow. Nice. Exactly what I need. I need to get rid of about an eight of an inch from one side. I can free-hand it for now but I will get me one of those ripcuts.
I couldn't agree more about the Kreg rip cut. While it's not perfect, it is awesome especially when making many repeated cuts of the same dimension. I did recently buy a nice track saw and I love it, it takes longer if you are making many cuts of the same width.
Great video. Thanks for sharing this information. Like many, I’ve spent too many years with inadequate tools just “getting by”. Your videos have provided some great tips, tricks, and insights without breaking the bank. You’ve made my life easier. Much appreciated brother.
Lol...loved the breakdown AND looking for tape measure...I’m always misplacing my tape measures and now have the worlds largest collection of tape measures:) thanks...subscribed.
About the Kregg, you have to have a straight edge to start with. I never have that. However the Swanson you can cut at any angle you want. You know how OSB gets that ragged edge. AND the Swanson gets that plate right down on the workpiece so you don't have it lifted loosing cut depth. Thanks so much for helping me make a decision!
Thanks man, the Swanson and kreg both look like solid products and boy do I need them. Much more accurate than what I’ve been doing, and waaaaayyyyyy cheaper than a track saw lol!
Just came across your channel, watched a few vids. I like it, you keep it real and explain things. Other channels I've seen are guys just showing off what they can do. i got a kreg jig, money well spent since i don't own a table saw yet. I would say that those screws at the top do get loose. There are channels on the bottom of the jig that don't get used as tracks. I drilled a couple of holes through my saw's floor plate into the voids in the jig and used some nuts and bolts near the top and bottom (once i had my zero establish) and now it doesn't move at all. it also wont interfere with the kreg cross cut jig either. Note that i used an old circular saw and dedicated it to having the kreg jig permanently attached (well worth it to not have to set it up everytime i want to use it).

I like the idea of using a cut off piece of wood but that can get easily lost (or mistaken for usable scrap wood, lol) in my small shop
