I have avoided suede/nubuck shoes and boots since I’ve been old enough to buy my own because I figured I would get them all stained and jacked up, and there was nothing to do other than treat them gingerly like they were fragile.
Loving this channel, and I’m learning enough to significantly change my habits around footwear.

I absolutely REFUSE to believe your channel has so little subscribers. If these weekly videos keep being churned it's only a matter of time before you start to reach hundreds of thousand of subs.
I've just now started to wear quality boots at the ripe age of 22 and am thankful for such informative and educational content.

Trenton & Heath One question though. I’ve seen videos where after shampooing the shoes they rinse them directly with water. What do you think about that? Is it ok, or you just remove the shampoo with a cloth or something?

    • @TrentonHeath
      @TrentonHeath  5 років тому +4

LegendaryADMG I’ve seen folks do that, but we’ve always removed the soap and all with a cloth. I’m guessing if the shoes are muddy, dunking them in water to rinse them off may be the better bet.

Looks like Trenton is right again. Bought their suede brush. Started using it very lightly with no result. Added a little pressure gradually and I'll be darned if it didn't work on the suede boots. Lifted and took the stain out. Must drive his family and friends nuts if he's always right about everything.

Sometimes the blue "ink" eraser ends work to remove minor stains. They never erase ink on paper, but I find on some suede, it works!
This is a cheaper, quick alternative. Of course, the actual Saphir eraser will do far better.

Not mentioned, but keeping them stored with a cedar shoe tree inside helps protect from excess moisture and deformation when they dry after wearing them. Feet give off moisture that the leather absorbs. This can help with outside shape, creases, etc.

Thanks for the video guys. Would it be possible to get information on how to handle different types of stains and what types of stains/substances basically can trash a pair of suede shoes and how to repair them? I just bought a pair of suede boots and I'm pretty sure I trashed them because I used harsh chemicals and abrasive methods to resolve my issue, just trying to figure out what I can do to avoid this in the future because suede is a beautiful product. On a separate note Can oils totally trash a pair of suded shoes?

Thanks...glad you enjoyed! If you don’t mind me asking, what did you use in them, and what happened? I’m not a fan of putting oil on suede. That’s why we recommend the Renovateur spray, or a sprayed on conditioner. Rubbing any type of oil directly onto the suede can potentially ruin the suede.

Hi there. I used the angelus Nubuck shampoo on my timberlands (dark grey) and some patches of color have come off revealing a dull colorless base in certain parts. I was very gentle in my application and scrub so not sure what went wrong. Since the color is quite unique I’m unable to find a colored conditioning spray that goes with it. What would you recommend?

I have a question that is a little off topic, my apology. My question is, can you resole a Dainite sole on a Blake Stitch constructed boot? I have a pair of Taft Saint boots I'm entertaining having this done on. They come with a dress sole like a shoe. I understand why because the boot is very dressy however, it does have a dressy ruggedness to it also and I believe the Dainite sole would have made a better choice. If this can be done what is the ballpark price on this? Thanks and love your content.

Nice video, finding some of these products was not that easy where I am located, in the end, I got so fed up of trying to keep the nubuck clean, I just rubbed them full of Mink Oil, yes, it ruined the Nubuck finish, but they do not stain (because the Mink Oil is much darker than the original finish) and they are about 100% waterproof. Given, they do not look too fancy anymore, but for a work boot, it is just fine and they need no special care. Yes I am a leather heretic, but these boots last forever.

Not for suede of course, but I use it on pretty much everything else including my full quill ostrich, caiman, and even nubuck. It's not recommended for the nubuck and it does change the color and feel but I don't mind. I even used it to condition my lamb skin gloves and leather wallet. I've been using it for a few years now and have been happy with the results. I'm just curious as to what it's reputation is among true industry professionals.

I have Frye and sorel boots that are intentionally distressed and I received them new but there are tiny little scratch marks all over them.. for the life of me I cannot find anything on how to renew this.. I believe they are nubuck suede..

Hi, I have just left a comment on one of your videos regarding an Ostrich leather strap and how to protect it. I use the Tarrago nano spray for my suede shoes, would the Tarrago spray be alright to use for the watch strap?

I bought a pair of Allen Edmond Nuemok's (Alcorn/Hillfire) colorway. I'm not sure it's nubuck or distressed leather. I want to get it back to its original colorway. Looks like the previous owner darkened the leather with a conditioner. I plan on sending them to you to get re-soled. What Saphir product do you recommend? Thank you
