I had trp spyre-c brakes on my bike when I bought it 2015. I had to cut a grove to the surface of the clamp that pinches the cable, because otherwise it was destroying the cable when tightened to any adequate torque. There were groves across the surface that clamps cable.. those were like teeth. The grove I cut was across of those groves, so that the cable could sit neatly inside grove and not get destroyed. I saved a lot of cables by doing that and myself from getting injured. Okay I admit I would not have noticed the problem, but the front brake was already modified by shop, where I bought the bike. I modified the rear brake too. :P
White Lightning Crystal grease is really good as well.I used it for greasing shift cables and housing when replacing factory housing which was actually bent on new 29er with internal routing.
Damn, that's pricey! The idea is to use good quality grease rather than none or the normal white moisturiser sold in the bike industry. Good on you. I feel your pain with the internal cables, especially if the factory fit messed it up...
That may well work, but it isn't legal to do that as a mechanic serving the public in the UK. I can only imagine the troubles inexperienced would get into trying to Super Glue the ends of cables. Thanks... it made me chuckle
You'll thank me, I hope! I use Shimano SP51 SIS outer cable (linear - compression-less) for the brakes on my personal mountain bikes. The problem with using it on road bars is the curves. It is something I will investigate on my long list of things to do. I've not found the standard 4mm gear cable ( linear-compressionless) to be better than decent brake outer like the Shimano SLR I always use for brakes on road bikes... Great Q!

Good on ya for working that out from the other brake. The next time I do that won't be the 1st or last, but not necessary too often...

Excellent. A great tutorial even for long time home mechanics like me.
Thanks for letting me know...
And don’t forget a drop of super glue on the end of the inner cable to stop it fraying in the future.

Ill be trying this mistical grase on brake cables asap, what are you r thoughts on compresionless housing?
@@sjanzeirdoes it improve your braking as well as the feel ?

Amazing response and couldn't agree with you more. Good brakes are actually a danger to people not using them properly, as you know.
DEFINITELY!
Mechanical disk brakes are rubbish, rather have rim brakes
same but trp spyre are pretty good
Great advice...
