Once the DLC is available, I'll be picking this one up for sure. The KOTOR games are some of the best RPGs ever made regardless of their flaws.
Agree
has it been announced when it's coming out?
@@VctSiridhata No release date for the DLC so far...just "soon after the game"
@@TobenVF Ah cool. Hope there'll be an update video post-patch & DLC.
I will definitely pick it up if they add some DLC and can smooth out some of the bugs. Back on the original xbox the bugs were my main issue with the game. The game itself is as good, if not better than the original
Also, anyone who’s voiced their concerns about the KOTOR 2 DLC, or anything related to issues regarding any of the Star Wars games on Switch, has had their messages deleted and accounts blocked from certain Aspyr employees over on the Discord server. That looks like shady damage control at best.
It was cancelled though… early June 2023 😢
Kotor 1 and 2 are always worth it, the best Star Wars games by far and some of the best Star wars stories
I would say the best star wars stories.
I agree!
which ones better like if I have to only get one whick one should get? 🤔
@@gmartines8511 if you only get one get the first game, but you really should get both eventually. They’re really cheap. The second game has a better story and better UI and gameplay but the first game is more consistent.
Well, kotor 1 is anyway.
Man, I played this on PC a while ago, but I had some mod that restored a bunch of cut content from the original, which was actually a substantial amount of content. Really hope the free patch brings it to that level. It was so much fun being evil in this game.
. REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Could I ask which mods you used? I've been looking to replay it with mods that add content!
No, it is not worth it. The lack of communication from Aspyr about the DLC that was promised is proof.
It's somewhat confusing to me that they'd release this with the promise of restoring cut content and fixes that were left out due to rush/crunch.... ... ... after the fact and not at launch and at some indeterminate time.
They're partially committing the same sin that was an issue in the first place. The game came out over 17 years ago and we're five years into the Switch's lifespan and you can't wait a (hopefully) few months longer to release a vintage port in it's completed state?
The restored content thing is just a fan mod. It's not the completed game by any means. The game will never be complete, because the developers never completed it. The content that's "restored" by the fan mod is content that was deliberately cut from the game by the developers because they didn't have enough time to make that content good enough.
@@teh_hunterer is the new content out yet?
@@pneuma6421 who cares
@@teh_hunterer me and a bunch of other fans of the game?
@@pneuma6421aspyr was taken offen KOTOR remake and the Switch DLC was scrapped as well
It's worth noting that the framedrops in this game are present in all versions of the game to some extent, and they are wayyyyy worse on original Xbox or even on Xbone BC. Kotor II is always rough around the edges and has always had performance and memory leak problems. There are certainly improvements to be made, but Kotor II will probably always be a great story with somewhat buggy execution. To have it any different would likely take way more resources than Aspyr or anyone is willing or able to put in.
edit: spelling
I don't remember having any issues with the original Xbox versions.
The PC version also doesn't have any of the issues you describe, at least, I've never run into them.
@@theexile4694 Good to know. I'm playing the Switch port right now and just wrapping up Peragus. I recently played the Xbone BC version and when you enter the fuel depot main area, the framerate drops to like low teens. There were some small stutters at the same points on the Switch, but it still felt like the framerate stayed >= 30fps. Much better than the Xbox version. It's been a while since I've played it on PC, but I imagine on a decent PC the frame drops are not very noticeable, even if they are present.
I believe Digital Foundry did a performance video that showed Kotor 2 BC with framerates, some of the dips are very noticeable.
@@briansardinha5396 i dont think so, the computing power of xbox series s and x should just bruteforce solve this. Maybe you mean Xbox one.
@@erikouwehand Yep. As I stated in my comment, I was playing this on an Xbox One with Backwards Compatibility, or Xbone BC, not series S/X. I'm sure you are right about the S/X being able to bruteforce through performance issues to the point of not being noticeable though.
As has been mentioned by others in the comments the restored content mod DLC is no longer coming to the switch version of kotor 2. This basically means the game is missing large sections of content and has various game breaking bugs and as such buying this on switch is a scam and a waste of your money, even on sale. If you want to play kotor 2 as close to as was intended with most bugs fixed your best bet is still PC with the restored content mod dlc.
On steam this usually goes on sale for $1-5 and the content mod is a free download from steam workshop.
Thanks was litteraly looking for this comment. I was actually thinking of picking it up right now but think imma pass.
Just got it for Christmas. Is it unplayable or can i still enjoy it?
I'm one of the people who preferred the release game to the restored content version. Yes it feels incomplete, but the restored content version just feels like a jumbled mess - to me at least. And even incomplete, the base release is still one of my favourite games of al time.
So.. about that Restored Content DLC being released in Q3 2022. That time came and went. Turns out Aspyr lied to us. And the company has been completely silent. That’s called false advertising, which is a crime that’s fineable up to $10,000. I’ve read there’s quite a few people who are currently contacting their lawyers and attorneys and about to file a class-action lawsuit. Things don’t look too good for Aspyr
Good review, not huge on Felix’s read though. I know he’s still young and new, but you don’t have to emphasize everything by reaching for a new octave every sentence. Otherwise, the editing was great! Keep practicing and you’ll do great.
I like Felix but it sounded like Yoda was reading the review, what with some of the weird emphasis on odd words.
Yh, he’s matured so much as a reviewer now though
So i bought this based On your review. Now we all hear theres a game breaking bug that kills the game halfway through. So did you guys just get lucky and not get that bug basically everyone else has or did you play this elsewhere and just put this out misleading all of us?
Are you saying there are a lot of bugs?
I downloaded both KOTOR games from the eshop and played them with lightside intentions to the max (occasional darkside dips occured though); I love and highly recommend them regardless of what format is chosen.
There's literally a bug that doesn't let you finish the game. Idk how you reviewed it
Explain.
I am assuming he finished it lol
I appreciate the content and the work that went into it... but the dialog feels like it was read off one giant script without time to put personality in it, or even time to breathe. It's just one thing after another and makes it hard to follow or absorb anything said in this review.
Basilisk bug doesn't let you finish the game aspyr said they will be patching it tho
"a software error has occurred"
Might I make a suggestion? Get someone to do the audio for the review who probably doesn’t have his voice cracking every 2 seconds.
Was driving me nuts too
How does a broken port get a 7 out of 10??? 🙃
This is one of the few times that I can say that I agree with an IGN review.
I love KOTOR, I’ve played both of the games on multiple platforms over the years. The bugs on the Switch make it unplayable. Constantly crashing. There’s a bug that skips cut scenes and important dialogue. You should be able to change the fps to like 30 because 60 makes it look horrible at times. They scaled down some effects and animations for some reason…is the Switch seriously incapable of running a Xbox game??
This port needs to go back in the oven. I’m not expecting a remastered version but damn…
Agreed. But i was never a big fan of this game even without the bugs. Its ok but its not close to as good as kotor 1.
@@trenken I agree. The original blows it away in my mind.
I can’t progress through the game because it crashes after a vital cut scene.
Well, it’s official. KotOR 2 restored content has been cancelled for Switch.
can't wait to play it once the limited run games copy comes out in like a year
Yeah, the game is quite buggy and the audio can be rough, but I'm really enjoying it.
Don't forget the underwater level at the begining...
absolute snoozefest hahahaha
if an 18 year old game can get a 7/10 now it must be great
Was the q3 restored dlc content added yet?
I have been waiting so long for this! My dream has been to play a high quality Star Wars KOTOR on my Switch.. 🙀👏
I just completed this again on Xbox, I'm definitely gonna be picking this up for the switch.... We need a Kotor 3
We almost got one but it was canceled. I found out about it early this year and I'm disappointed we never got it.
That would be so awesome!
New vegas should be on switch
Been enjoying KOTOR Sirh Wars o Switch. Never played the game before, so been having fun with it, even though the ports a bit clunky in places. 😀
It’ll be worth it with the DLC, cuz right now it’s a broken unplayable mess
Yea :(
I'm almost sold... dang my game budget is getting slim
To be fair the KOTOR games are dirt cheap on Switch. Even new they're only about £12. And I think KOTOR 1 is on sale at the moment. The only issue is they're pretty meaty downloads, about 15 GB each.
it was even cheaper on Steam last month (I think 9.99 during Star Wars celebration)
Wait till next May 4th.
Some of the UI screen is zoomed in hope that gets fixed
One of my favorite games ( and the first Kotor)
The dlc IS NOT COMING. Be aware before buying, it got canceled.
I really liked the way you delivered the review
Short answer: Yes. If for no other reason than to show Disney that we don't want anymore "new stories" that destroy legacy characters to prop up their OCs.
Granted Disney probably wouldn't care either way, but the point would be made anyway.
Get woke - go broke! Check out their SHARE prices.
True.
You people really need to stop forcing your Disney hate boner into everything
How’d he get a lightsaber on peragus
I bought it already. I hope by the time I fiinish the first game the dlc will be available!
Why tf did they release this game with all these issues and make us wait for the patch? They should of just held out on releasing since this is bad media for them and rightfully
The game absolutely gets stuck on 2nd arrival to iziz. The cinema where the ship gets shot at and then lands right after that dcs everytime. Totally unplayable.
Oh, Aspyr lied. The Restored Content Mod took years develop, had a lot of drama, and it even died during development. Imagine "porting" that over
Plx better port. Remaster to improve graffix and overall game performance. Also loading timez. At the current offer of 11 eur it iz not a bargain.
I only got $15 on my eshop
which game do i get
kotor or kotor 2
it's a tough call. they're both good games. if you're big on story, get kotor 1, because kotor 2 will be a continuation of kotor 1. if you're big on gameplay, get kotor 2, because you get your light saber way quicker and it's more focused on gameplay.
Kotor 2 has a glitch that doesn't let you get past half the game I'd recommend you to wait for a patch to buy kotor 2.
Kotor
I heard Xenoblade like combat. Xenoblade + Star Wars? My interest has peaked.
Play KOTOR 1!
It uses a D&D(Dungeons and Dragons) style d20 (Dice 20) system.
Your stats matter. How your stats are allocated matters. Your class choice matters. You can't create a character that can do everything. Any gaps in your character can be filled using other party members who are better in those areas.
Make a Melee focused character so you can use a lightsaber effectively.
I’m just waiting for the dlc to drop
Curse the idiot who canceled Kotor 3
Bad port,so many glitches,force close,so bad...
anyone know when dlc is coming out?
This game stinks compared to kotor 1.
Memory leaks on a console with limited Memory?
Sheesh. Yeah I will pass and stick to the PC version. At least for now. Hopefully, they can get the issues under control.
That's quite the voice over -
2023 UPDATE They canceled the cut content dlc i bought this thinking it was coming and they canceled it the next day
Looks good!
Ughh I listening to this little kids crackling puberty voice. God dammit he is ruining Nintendo life for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Exile is canonically female. FYI.
Okay where's the mod that gives me a lightsaber as early as Peragus II because that's absurd!
Still think part 1 was far superior
Kotor 1 is better
They will ruin kotr 3 and make it more subscription or even micro 💸hell
Lies
Played the way it was intended? Not without using a mouse and keyboard.
first😮
People still do this? Lol feels like a throwback
Looks like PS1 graphics.
Yoo talk too much...
Oh lord we’re in 2022 and we still have these ps2 graphics
This isn't a new game.....And even of it was, Kotor is leaps and bounds better than most rpg's that have came out more recently.
imagine bitching in 2022 about 2003 visuals. What else one can expect from a Sony pony. Don't forget to buy P3P on your ps5 tho in 2023
The game is literally 18 years old.
@@crex3928 Because running old-gen games is the best the Switch can do
Attention seeker found
Wow this looks poor…
Obviously it’s an old game but the graphics are really gross
And an rng based combat system? I think I’ll stick with higher skill cap games
It was made in 2004... graphics aren't everything
@@mrchiefbs Graphics aren’t everything you’re right, but they still play an important role in the game’s presentation. And it doesn’t matter if it’s *justified* that the graphics are like that, they’re still bad
"Higher skill cap"
lol
@@boshwa20 I laughed when I read that to. Lmfao.
@@mrchiefbs Yep. Graphics are the least important part of a game. What matters is the underlying game system you are playing and KOTOR 2 uses one of the best systems, d20.
Looks bad, I like open worlds and This doesn’t look open
Basilisk bug doesn't let you finish the game aspyr said they will be patching it tho
I hope so man
You can press the left joystick 3 times to open the cheat menu and warp to the right spot on onderon. It skips the cutscene so you can continue the game
