    Hey there guys! One thing I did neglect to mention in the video is that I do not personally think that DIY deep conditioners are worth it. I have tried a few and have found that they just don't do anything for my hair. And they are super messy. I actually save time and MONEY (avocados, honey, etc are expensive y'all!) by just purchasing a really high quality, perfectly formulated, pre made deep conditioner. The ingredients in a good deep conditioner are specifically chosen by formulators because they are the most effective at actually penetrating deep into the hair and nourishing it from the inside out.

      @keiras13 4 роки тому +5

      DIY ones like that don't work for me either, but I have found that adding oils to a regular conditioner actually work really well. You just have to have a lot of water in it and keep it on there for at least 15 minutes

      I agree Courtney. I've tried countless DIY deep conditioners and they're messy and not worth the effort. I made a deep conditioning treatment with cinnamon and that was tough to rinse out. I still had cinnamon residue for awhile after. Another time I did a protein deep conditioner using Greek yogurt and it hardened and was awful to try washing out. I love your content.

      @@christinaobert5664 I use olive oil, or avocado oil. I kinda thought about it, and I think the oils just kinda help seal, and then rinse out, but not completely so it just feels more smooth and moisturized or what not. So if you're oily/don't like oils in your hair, it's probably not for you, but the oils work really well for me personally. Also, if you don't mind oils, but don't like a lot, I'd suggest avocado oil over olive, because that seems to leave me a lil less "oily". I know I'm making it seems greesy, but it's not, it's just like smooth. Idk what words to use, but I think that's the best I can explain it:):)

      Being in the bun stretched out her natural waves and gave her bigger, looser, bouncy waves. I used to do that to my hair until I discovered scrunching and stuff. Honestly if you want to be super low maintenance as a wavy, you can just put your hair into a bun every night to sleep since wavy hair usually holds curl easily anyway.

    So I am 42 years old and for my entire life have had stick straight hair that wouldn't hold a curl even after a perm. Apparently, now that I turned 40, my dad's hair genes have kicked in out of nowhere and my hair is now growing out of my scalp curly. My ends may still be stick straight but my new hair is curly and you are really helping me learn how to even deal with it. I have no clue because I've had again straight hair my entire life. I'm a 2a with some 2b wavy over here, and I've tried so many ways (pineapple, silk case, bonnet, etc.) And I also move around A TON when I sleep so my hair is all over the place and curls have disappeared. So far what's worked for me is wrapping with a silk scarf. I can do it as tight or as loose as I need for it to stay without hurting and my curls stay in place wayyy better than a bonnet since it's more snug on my head and has less movement. CurlMeSweet has a good video on how to wrap your hair. 💕

    Hey Courtney! Amazing tips! I just started CGM and I’m lost sometimes. So, how often should I clarify and deep condition? My ends are pretty dry, but I had a wash day yesterday and my hair is very trained to not get greasy that easily. So that would mean that I could go a week without washing, although doing CGM is exciting so I’m not sure I could hold on for so long without washing now haha! But yeah, is it only recommended to clarify before deep conditioning? When to do it? Help!

    Hi! This is entirely unrelated to this video, but I had a question about PH. I believe it was in your Simply Curls Co video from a year-ish ago that you mentioned that the PH of your conditioner affects whether you can use it as a leave-in or not. What PH range should you be aiming for? If the conditioner says "PH balanced", does that fall into that range?
    Thank you so much! Your videos have helped me so much with my curly hair journey.

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  4 роки тому +2

      This is an AMAZING question, and to e honest I have NO idea what companies mean when they say pH balanced. The pH of human hair is 4.5-5pH. Typically companies make their conditioners around pH of 3 to help smooth down and close the hair cuticle. I think you would have to literally email/contact the company and ask what they mean by pH balanced. Because that seems like a weird phrase to me for sure!

    I don’t think you actually answered the first question of how often to deep condition😄? You got real excited about dc over dirty hair 😄Is it okay to do it once a week if your hair seems to like it?

    How do you know when your hair is over-moisturized or has too much protein? I’m still pretty new to the cg method so sorry if this is a novice question.

    • @rachellep2581
      @rachellep2581 4 роки тому +2

      If you would like to figure this out about your hair, take a loose strand of hair and pull on it....if it is over moisturized it will stretch and stretch like a elastic but with little to no spring back. If you have too much protein your strand will snap harshly when pulled on. Hair that is over moisturized can either appear limp and soggy when dry or sometimes really fluffy overly soft with very little definition. If hair is in protein overload it shows signs of being rough to the touch. It can be almost stiff and feels dry and brittle with little shine. Hope this helps I have finely gained balance in my hair. It was a challenge at first but this tool changed everything. My bad hair days have disappeared now that my hair is well balanced. So I hope this helps you on your journey. Mains by Mel has very informative info on acheiving balanced hair you might like to check out.

    If a deep conditioner (also doubles as leave in and wash out conditioner) causes flash drying when squish to condish, does that mean it will not hydrate hair and I should avoid using it??

    Does anyone find their hair dries quicker after deep conditioning? I have low porosity hair that takes around 6 hours to air dry when I use a normal wash out conditioner but when I deep condition it is somehow dry in 2 hours? Not a problem at all, it's super silky and soft but just wondering why this happens lol.
