In my searches on eBay, I have come across both plastic and glass replacement digitizers for 3DS models, but I am unsure of how they compare to Nintendo's stock plastic ones. Would glass variants differ from plastic touch screens in responsiveness or sensitivity, or in any other way?
The Nintendo ones are two piece, plastic touchscreen with a glass backing. If you just buy the plastic it is very hard to install on the Nintendo glass as you would have to separate the old plastic from the glass. Better off buying the complete unit (aka glass touch screen)
@@TheFixTech thanks for the reply! Forgive me, but I am still a bit confused and hoping you can clarify for me. If I wanted to remove my entire bottom screen without separating the LCD from the digitizer (for safekeeping), then buy 2 separate pieces (a new IPS LCD and a new digitizer to go on top of it), would you still recommend a glass digitizer? It seems like these glass digitizers would create an experience that feels like a tablet or smartphone, while Nintendo's stock digitizers are that plastic film that hover loosely over the glass, but I have no knowledge or experience regarding any pros and cons of going with a glass aftermarket digitizer in terms of performance or ease of installation. Hello! This was a very informative and relaxing video. I do have one (potentially dumb) question. Is the lens (or digitizer?) that goes over the LCD what makes a screen an IPS screen or is it the LCD screen itself?
No, the touchscreen (digitizer) is only a touchscreen. The LCD itself is what determines if the screen is an ips. If you are looking for a genuine screen I recommend purchasing a used screen taken from working 3ds
Great tutorial! When I finished putting it all together everything worked perfectly… except it turns out the bottom screen LCD I got from eBay was cracked 😭 I have to wait for a refund now.
Hey man thanks for the video it really helped me easily take this thing apart and put it back together. I'm having a problem, I replaced just the lcd and put everything back together as you showed. When I powered it the blue power led came on and the bottom screen blinked for one second then shut off and made a popping noise. After doing this twice the 3ds no longer is turning on; thoughts on what might have went wrong?
That usually means either the top screen cable and/or 3D cable flex cable is torn. One or both may need replacing. I do have a video showing the process
There should be a protective cover on the front and back of the screen, sometimes poor quality screens will appear slightly foggier than the originals even with the covers removed.
I followed this and when put it all back together and press the power button, the light comes on, stays on about 5 secs, then I hear a click and it turns off. Is there something I've done wrong?
Do you mind adding a link in the description of the specific touch screen you bought. The one I bought was falsely advertised and it is waaaaay to small to fit.

My touch screen works, I can see 10% of the left corner and there is nothing broken on the screen but the graphic shows a crack even if the glass isn’t broken also some black, white, rainbow part. So if I try to change something from the 3ds should I just change the screen and nothing else or also the touchpad
You can change just the screen, the touchscreen is adhered with double sided tape and should come off relatively easy, if it does break you can replace it.
If I am just replacing the LCD, can I reuse the old touch screen that still works? Will I need some sort of adhesive or is it strong enough to hold on by itself after being removed?
Yes, the top screen is not a touchscreen, only the lower screen has touch capabilities. As far the the 3D depth goes, there’s hardly a difference between low and high. It really is either 3D or no 3D. If you have the (new) 3ds xl, the 3D can be calibrated in the settings app.

I just replaced the bottom screen both the digitizer and the LCD because the touch screen wasn’t working. Do you have any ideas to what could Be the issue with my touch screen
The touchscreen connector is located at the top of the board where the skinny touch screen cables attached to. If the connector is damaged then a new one will have to be soldered on. You can find the connectors on eBay.
Hi Great video. I think the touch screen is what is wrong with my 'new 3 DS XL - US version'. Below I have 3 questions? - How did you source the screen? ebay? amazon? -The screen below the touch screen, how can you tell if that is not working a(nd can you buy the complete lower screen(touch screen + digital screen) - do you know if there is a difference between the Europe and US touch screen i.e. do you have to ensure you buy the correct one? Thanks in advance
I found the touch screen on ebay, make sure you purchase the correct model. The screen below the touch screen is the lcd, if the picture is clear and you can see the image when the system is powered on then it is good. Yes they can be purchased together, or you can buy a broken new 3ds xl for parts and use that. No difference in parts between any region version. All same parts.
So I have a question, what if when you turn it back on, the Backlight shows up, but there's no input. What have I done wrong? I've torn this thing apart about 5 times now and I cant figure it out.
I followed this to change my touch screen and now my bottom screen has some kind of mist on the lower right of the panel. I took it all apart, cleaned it and tried again but it's still there. Do you think is the LCD? Could I have caused some damage while cleaning it?
i really wouldnt recommend putting the part where you have the new digitizer on top of the screen, it made me think you could peek it off which caused me to rip it 😞
Does Nintendo use a third party brand for their upper screens? Which brand is the same or closest for a replacement? Are the other brands of the same quality?
The thing wrong with my new Nintendo 3ds xl is that the touch screen is out of whack it’s not working properly what should I do I can’t even play games that require the stylus
i re did this 4 times already, end result is always the blue light showing for a little bit and then the pop noise before it shuts down. i really dont know whats going on besides breaking the clamp for the joycon. i taped it up and i wouldn't assume the entire system will shut down because of that. i definitely think it has something to do with the 3 cables on the upper right side, i did them exactly the way u put them but no luck. i gonna try flipping it upside down but if not then i really dont know what it is.
I have a question: I followed your video and managed to replace my digitiser, however the touchscreen seems less responsive now than it should be. Do you reckon it's a deeper issue or is it just because the digitiser was cheap quality? I tried two of them from different sellers and had the same issue.
I did fix the old broken touch screen to replace it with the new 3ds xl touch screen, but then something went not working that I did struggle might to break it.
Now tell me how to remove a stripped screw? I got all of the back screws except one and now it's completely stripped bare. My screwdriver cannot get a grip on it.
If you have the c stick (joystick) next to the abxy buttons then it’s a “new” 3ds. Also confirm if you have the xl or small version, you can find a size chart online.
@@TheFixTech k good to know i my joystick is on the left with the arrows and ny abxy buttons or on the right will have to check the size all i know is i have a mario themed 3ds

This may be late but... Make sure you got the bottom ribbon inserted with the contacts facing the motherboard! This happened to me yesterday and that was the issue.
And aside from my red new Nintendo 3DS XL I own a blue/black new Nintendo 2DS XL which is completely broken I can’t do anything on it except turn it on and off and I have a working original Nintendo DS that has a broken opening hinge and some weird stuff on its touch screen

ikr there's more than in a joy con lmao
Definitely but after your first go, you'll start understanding the layout 👍🏻
Can I use this to simply clean the bottom part of the upper touch screen?
Is this repair also usable with the older model of the 3ds?
Hi Great video.
I think the touch screen is what is wrong with my 'new 3 DS XL - US version'. Below I have 3 questions?
- How did you source the screen? ebay? amazon?
-The screen below the touch screen, how can you tell if that is not working a(nd can you buy the complete lower screen(touch screen + digital screen)
- do you know if there is a difference between the Europe and US touch screen i.e. do you have to ensure you buy the correct one?
Thanks in advance
I found the touch screen on ebay, make sure you purchase the correct model. The screen below the touch screen is the lcd, if the picture is clear and you can see the image when the system is powered on then it is good. Yes they can be purchased together, or you can buy a broken new 3ds xl for parts and use that. No difference in parts between any region version. All same parts.
Hello, i just changed my touchscreen and my top lcd now doesn't show anything, its just black, but it's on, any solution?
Try removing just the touch screen, could be defective.
So I have a question, what if when you turn it back on, the Backlight shows up, but there's no input. What have I done wrong? I've torn this thing apart about 5 times now and I cant figure it out.
THANK YOU
I followed this to change my touch screen and now my bottom screen has some kind of mist on the lower right of the panel. I took it all apart, cleaned it and tried again but it's still there. Do you think is the LCD? Could I have caused some damage while cleaning it?
i really wouldnt recommend putting the part where you have the new digitizer on top of the screen, it made me think you could peek it off which caused me to rip it 😞
Hello, I need help please.
I put everything together. Now the blue light comes on for 3 seconds and then there is a cracking sound again and again.
Hi, I have the same problem, did you solve it somehow?
How did you get the console to turn on?
Does Nintendo use a third party brand for their upper screens? Which brand is the same or closest for a replacement? Are the other brands of the same quality?
The thing wrong with my new Nintendo 3ds xl is that the touch screen is out of whack it’s not working properly what should I do I can’t even play games that require the stylus
If the calibration does not work then a touch panel replacement is required
@@TheFixTech dude what u just did in the video looked really complicated
old 3ds xl bottom skin work with new 3ds xl ??
No, it is different.
i re did this 4 times already, end result is always the blue light showing for a little bit and then the pop noise before it shuts down. i really dont know whats going on besides breaking the clamp for the joycon. i taped it up and i wouldn't assume the entire system will shut down because of that. i definitely think it has something to do with the 3 cables on the upper right side, i did them exactly the way u put them but no luck. i gonna try flipping it upside down but if not then i really dont know what it is.
This is usually an LCD cable fault, either upper or lower. Make sure all cables are fully inserted and secured. Also the 3D cable would cause this.
What did you use to clean the LCD panel before reassembling the digitizer?
Usually just a clean microfiber cloth to remove any dust particles. If you have any smudges then use a little 70% iso alcohol
I have a question: I followed your video and managed to replace my digitiser, however the touchscreen seems less responsive now than it should be. Do you reckon it's a deeper issue or is it just because the digitiser was cheap quality? I tried two of them from different sellers and had the same issue.
what is the purpose of the flex attached to the lcd bracket at 4:31 ?
nevermind , its the nfc antenna
please help me
does this work on the old 3ds XL
Yes, very similar process.
So does this work if, say
The Bottom Screen still works, but theres some Cracks and a big black Splotch all over?
My n3ds xl has vignette on bottom screen, but the touch is good. Does replacing the lcd fix my problem?
My 3DS touch screen turned black I think it broke from water damage
If just the touch screen is black but the rest if the system works, it can be fixed. Just replace the bottom screen.
@@TheFixTech thanks!
I need a touch screen for new 3ds xl do you know what ones work if so could you give me the link to it
I buy from eBay, be sure to purchase the 2015 model.
@@TheFixTech thanks
I did fix the old broken touch screen to replace it with the new 3ds xl touch screen, but then something went not working that I did struggle might to break it.
Dear god this is a lot of work for just replacing a touch screen.
Now tell me how to remove a stripped screw? I got all of the back screws except one and now it's completely stripped bare. My screwdriver cannot get a grip on it.
Never mind, I just twisted the back cover until it broke. Don't buy tools from Wal-Mart. Nothing made in china is worth a damn!
Did you ever get it out?
use a drill on it
i fucked up i gotta go bald now
Does anyone else recite the serenity prayer before putting all the cables back in? Maybe it's just me.
How do you do this with a normal 3ds xl?
I have a video for that, it’s on my channel
My top screen isn’t turning on now, what do I do? It turns on and glows but it’s all black
How do i know what model of 3ds i have
If you have the c stick (joystick) next to the abxy buttons then it’s a “new” 3ds. Also confirm if you have the xl or small version, you can find a size chart online.
@@TheFixTech k good to know i my joystick is on the left with the arrows and ny abxy buttons or on the right will have to check the size all i know is i have a mario themed 3ds
So the DS turns on, new touch screen works. Everything is working fine, except... My top LCD isnt turning on?? I don't even know which cable this is, so I'm going to retrace my steps and redo all the cables...
This may be late but... Make sure you got the bottom ribbon inserted with the contacts facing the motherboard! This happened to me yesterday and that was the issue.
helpful👏👏👏
Now the console turns on.
But the top screen remains dark. When I move the folding screen the console turns off.
A ribbon cable broke or isn't seater properly. Go back and repeat the process you see in the video.
What if it doesn't turn on after all of that?
This video was almost fine but it broke my 3Ds and also the screen linked doesn’t even fit properly
And aside from my red new Nintendo 3DS XL I own a blue/black new Nintendo 2DS XL which is completely broken I can’t do anything on it except turn it on and off and I have a working original Nintendo DS that has a broken opening hinge and some weird stuff on its touch screen
nice
