What the...Dan Shive?!? I see a lot of other content creators in this special Completionist episode but I did not expect to see you here. Hi. I enjoy your comic.
This. Is. Awesome. Chrono Trigger is the game that made me fall in love with video games and what they could be. Last August I was set to take a bus trip (two 10-hour rides) and asked my buddies if I could borrow a DS and the ONE game they felt I NEEDED to play. (In previous my 31 years, I'd only made it to the end of one game so there was a strong likelihood that Chrono WOULD be the one game. So many struggles along the way (I had to learn that I could save ANYWHERE on the general map) and a lot of coaching-without-spoiling along the way, and the payoff was beautiful. Existing friendships were deepened -and new ones unlocked- through that journey, and I know I am a much more "complete" person because I now have a love and growing understanding of this beautiful form of storytelling. All because of a willingness to accept a crazy adventure and because of the choices I made along the way.
There was an OVA with the creatures playing around in the festival and johnny makes an appearance. Chrono shows up with marle and I think lucca but just passing by. Give it a watch if you haven't.
I'm not proud! I owned and played Chrono Trigger back in 1995, and I COMPLETED it. Get your game up, Jirard! I'm a few years older than your bearded ass, but I expect you to play games that among the best of all time. I WILL NOT HAVE THIS!!! He must play till he has prism dresses for all the girls, nova armors for all the males, prism helms all around, and a Bronze Fist for Ayla (the second best character in the game, hands down...I have an entire blog on this).

Not weird at all. If you’ve never played it, I can not recommend it enough, especially if you love JRPGs. Chrono Trigger is easily my absolute favorite game of all time.
Excellent work on the review, it is everything Chrono Trigger deserves. When you do Chrono Cross, have an open mind. It is and is not a direct sequel, simultaneously.
A schrodinger's type of sequel, in my opinion i don't like chrono cross that much but the opening and the overworld music i love it, but the gameplay and story didn't connect with me
Chrono Cross has some nifty character designs and some AMAZING music -- absolutely killer stuff -- but I'm not wild about the experience as a whole either.
Jose Pared I get that a lot. But the thing is, while the cast of CC is different than that of CT, their game and their circumstances are directly a result of CT. Besides, all of CT's characters appear. And some people have whined about what happened to the CT characters, claiming it ruins the happy ending. But for me, it's kind of realistic if you're paying attention. No matter how good your "ending" is, someone's going to get cancer, or murdered, or something. And you can't go fucking around with time itself without causing problems. Their great ending meant someone else got screwed over.
I like Chrono Cross because it didn't just do the same hook as Chrono Trigger. CT was about Time Travel. CC was about dimension-hopping. This kind of paradigm shift kept me interested even when the dialogue stagnated. Figuring out CT's story is fairly easy. Figuring out CC's story is dementia-inducing. Even with the gigantic roster of CC's allies, it's not the shallow story for each character that's good, it's the fact that so many characters have counterparts and that they all care about what happens to the bigger plot regardless of their private circumstances. Finally getting the true ending of the game tied it all together for me.
MrZork1974 Exactly! It's like the entire world is involved in saving the timeline and the planet. Which, if you realize, is referenced as a possibility in CT as well.
Every time I hear the music box medley my heart melts. I love this game so much. Thank You so much for playing this game the way I did. I played it over, and over, and over. The music, the characters, the sprites... this game is... simply put in one word. POWERFUL

I was confused for a moment myself, but then it clicked since FFVI is my second favorite RPG so I've listened to that track so much. An apt choice for that portion of the video too.
When you have so many people to thank for helping you then you know that you have a pillar of support. I'm proud of what you do on this channel and you inspire me to complete my own games
Jirard your determination, dedication and passion is unrivaled, and I wish I could have even 10% of that. I wish all the best and congrats on 200 episodes
I've probably put over 5,000+ hours into this game since the 90's. I replay it once a year every Jan and do a different ending. It's easily the best game ever developed. Never gets old to me.
My idea for a proper sequel that'd tie in CC, too: Have the original 7 characters from CT join up with the main Termina characters from CC- Kidd, Serge, Riddel, Karsh, Glenn, Viper, Norris, Zoah, Radius, ect (basically the ones that had real in-depth character growth/stories that also had ties to Guardia.) With Dalton destroying Guardia, (DS remake had a boss fight with him where he states he'll go to Guardia and destroy it, making him responsible for its destruction and Chrono and Marle's deaths,) and he starts travelling through time, creating multiple parallel timelines in the process, and undoing everything Chrono and Serge had fixed. You'd have to jump back and forth not just through time, but through parallel worlds to find things that Dalton hadn't destroyed to bring back to the main timeline and fix it, or find people Dalton had trapped in alternate worlds.
Tony Veron People can hate on Cross all they want to, but it's canon and an amazing game, if not a bit convoluted at times, but still a fantastic and sad story.
Ivalice VKP Never played it tbh. All I know is its very different and revolutionary on his own, and if their complaint is convolution, how did they enjoy this one, or any other JRPG?
@@Dwayneff I guess you must have finished it by now, but if you haven't, just know it can go either way depending on your actions (you only fail if you f up, haha...).
@@mikeluna2026 I just couldn't keep playing, I got as far as the first other world before I got lost and gave up, the combat just didn't intrigue me, story was pretty good though.
@@LemonChad049Yes, you can. When the chance comes up, there is a password that can be entered in the machine that Lucca's mom accidentally turned on. Saving her gives you access to some good gear for Lucca, and changes her backstory at the same time
This video reminded me of the 90's and the feeling of mystery, adventure and surprise videogames had back then, with the SNES and N64. It's really a golden age.
Liam F. He said that he plays XC for about one hour each week for 'the completionist', so I expect a video of XC in the near future if he didn't change his plans during his playthrough.
But Beardman 200 episodes and still no E.T. Atari? And no World of Warcraft, What about the All Stars Pack? WHERE IS MEGAMAN X? WHY HAVEN'T YOU DONE MY FAVORITE GAME EVER???!!@#Q#R%#Q#Q
I've been here since the Portal review. But i'm proud of you. You're awesome and you never give up always playing until the end. Lets go for 300 episodes!!
I just realized something (SPOILERS for POKEMON SUN & MOON and CHRONO TRIGGER) Lillie, Gladion, and Lusamine are basically Schala, Magus, and Queen Zeal. Lillie and Schala are the innocent sister that you wish wasn't caught up with the mess they're in, Gladion and Magus are the brother that starts off as an antagonist but later becomes an ally, and Lusamine and Queen Zeal are the sociopath mother that cares more about a beast that's central to the plot then she does her own children.
Been watching old completionist episodes and this one is one of my favorites. When jirard talks from the heart it's so god damned inspiring. Seeing him like this just makes me want to do everything I can to further myself in my pursuits.
100% agree with "favorite story" and "best time travel story". It's a first person time travel simulator with a gripping and haunting narrative. A roller coasters of emotions that leaves you raw and obsessed by the credits of the true ending. Steins;Gate is a masterpiece of digital fiction.
Fantastic, beautiful. I remember when my buddy Tony and I played through this game over the course of a month or so back in Highschool. Those were good times, we still play games to this day and we always talk about this and the other games we played and how great those times were. Keep it up!
1. I have the DS version and not the SNES version. I've wanted to buy a SNES version, but GOD, is it expensive now. At a used video game store, they're selling the game for almost $130! The DS version cost me about $40, so it was a pretty good deal. 2. My favorite characters in the game are Frog and Magus. Both have great stories and great techs. Magus really helps with the harder bosses. 3. This is officially one of my all-time favorite video games.
Thank you Jirard for these amazing 200 episodes and for your amazing content. As always we'll all be here for ya, and congratulations for this achievement!!!
Wow, it is such an incredible feeling to stumble upon completion of a game all of a sudden that I loved so much in childhood. I used to play it on the first Play Station though. You guys have a great taste in games!=D
Jirard, thank you for being the best video game reviewer of all time. I have watched almost all of your episodes and every one of them are really awesome to watch. You deserve more for all of the effort that you have on everything you do on UA-cam, and it will be sad when this show ends. Here's to another 100 games reviewed! -Zach
I wasn't concentrating on the video when it started. so when Jirard said 'it's you' my eyes darted to the screen and I gasped... to realise it was Death... fuck
Question: You mentioned you like time travel plots. Have you played Radian historia on nintendo DS? It features a story which takes place on two separate timelines, and you travel in time between both of them.
I love Radiant Historia. It doesn't play like Chrono Trigger at all but it also felt a bit like a spiritual successor to the series in some ways. I would love to see Jirad talk about it.
I run a support group. I've done so for the last 3 years. It's a real passion project. My only word of advice as a watcher, is to keep at it, and when you feel like it's too much, take a break. No one should fault you. Keep doing what you love,Girard and remember, we're here for you.
Obviously haven't watched the video all the way through, but just wanted to say how much I love Chrono Trigger (own all versions except for the one on iOS). Yasunori Mitsuda made an outstanding soundtrack (even though he had some help from Nobuo Uematsu because he got sick) and the adventure feel is just legendary. I'll never sell my complete copy of the SNES version (might have to bury me with it haha!).
***** Nice! I also have the Skyrim soundtrack and it was signed by the composer. I wish I had a physical soundtrack for Oblivion, but I think it's only available as a digital download.
You forgot one more thing. If you solo the newgame+ as Crono before bumping into Marle, you will receive the Dream Project ending with a variation. The last dev you talk to will tell you that you have earned a credit roll appropriate to your quick defeat of Lavos - the credits roll extremely quickly.
I only played through Chrono Trigger once when it released, well once and change as I went back and defeated Lavos the first time you encounter him after I was blown away that this could be done. Love this game still to this day and it left such an impact on me. I still remember what I always used against Lavos, the Delta Force triple tech. Would love to see a remake of this game in the same way Final Fantasy 7 Remake was done. This game is still talked about so well that it would sell a ton.
@@mandrews6282when I got my snes classic I asked around to see what games I should add and everyone said the name Chrono Trigger usually I’m not a fan of turn based RPGS and I’ve played some games that have time travel in the story which those games royally fucked up but Chrono Trigger holy shit it incorporated time travel BEAUTIFULLY in a way no game has done since played it for the first time in 2021 and am doing a second playthrough rn I fell in LOVE with this game
He already completed Skyrim. I don't expect him to EVER go back to an Elder Scrolls game. Especially Oblivion, as it has multiple endings if I'm not mistaken.
DuskHeart13 Skyrim is the easiest RPG I've ever played honestly. It's the only one you can do everything in one playthrough. "Completing" Morrowind is impossible.
I'm a proud member of the Completionist fandom. Jirard you are someone who I see as a pillar of determination, good vibes, and all the qualities humans should have. I have been on the ride for 200 episodes and I can't wait to be there for every milestone here after. thank you for all the hardships you endure for us and of course yourself. I hope you keep going for as long as you love it.
They know about it. They also know about A Link to the Past and FFVII. "Overrated!!!" They just don't have the patience for games that aren't fully rendered. Plus turn based jRPGs aren't exactly perfect for the modern mainstream audience. 1995 was a different era. And this game blew my mind.
Its funny cause I was happy to see the FFVII remake till I saw the trailer...was action rpg lol, I play them but dislike them greatly. Heck I think Elder scolls games blow even though I spent 50 hours into each...
I'm still waiting too...... But it is a LONG game. He might even want to complete the affinity tree with all connections, which is pretty difficult to do.
Glad there was a bit of a return to more story synopsis.. but part of me hoped death would say "But Beardman" and reveal a huge shock of a return.. oh well, that bridge was burned long ago
Congrats on the first truly believable double take in acting history!! Jirard if you ever complete every game out there I think you have a promising future in acting my friend!
I've been going through your videos the last few weeks since stuck at home during the 2020 covid-19 quarantine and let me say you have great content and after watching this particular video I have to say that you are amazing 👏 thank you for helping me pass the time!
Today completed Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. Both that and Dawn of sorrow are my favorites in the series. Love the show man and I'm glad you are able to keep it going!
I've been watching since episode 1, and I think this is the best episode. Not only because Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time and it changed my life. It's because it feels awesome seeing The Completionist grow over the course of the show. Amazing episode as usual.
Brings tears to my eyes... alltho I "only" finished 9/13 endings when I had a go on SNES. Bought the PS1 version with the CGI, but loading times were horrible. Chrono Cross I finished 6 out of 9 (?) endings I believe... but hats off, you made all 13! RESPECT brother!
Final fantasy 6, it's a the only RPG i would put above Chrono Trigger by very small margin. Mainly becuase i grew up with it i loved how many times i re play it i always find something new hidden in the world. I also just checked your video logs i'm kinda shocked you have not done FF6 on this channel yet. I would recommend it will be as wonderful as your experience Chrono Trigger.

With Dalton destroying Guardia, (DS remake had a boss fight with him where he states he'll go to Guardia and destroy it, making him responsible for its destruction and Chrono and Marle's deaths,) and he starts travelling through time, creating multiple parallel timelines in the process, and undoing everything Chrono and Serge had fixed. You'd have to jump back and forth not just through time, but through parallel worlds to find things that Dalton hadn't destroyed to bring back to the main timeline and fix it, or find people Dalton had trapped in alternate worlds.
"Also death is here."
That got me. Funny line, right there.
ChaseFace pp
"I don't care who ya are, that's funny right there!"
Yeah
Hey Beardman, You should have completed the DS version. It has additional endings my dude
Tony Veron And one that leads into Chrono Cross :)
Ivalice VKP Yup. It's not much, but it's technically not complete without it
Tony Veron People can hate on Cross all they want to, but it's canon and an amazing game, if not a bit convoluted at times, but still a fantastic and sad story.
Ivalice VKP Never played it tbh. All I know is its very different and revolutionary on his own, and if their complaint is convolution, how did they enjoy this one, or any other JRPG?
He did complete it along with the SNES version.
A game has never made cry, but failing to save Lucca's mom brought me pretty dang close
Well...guess I should have stayed out of the comment section. I havent finished chrono trigger. On the trial chapter.
Couldn't be later, but you can save her? Does it have something to do with the dimensional vortexes?
@@LemonChad049Yes, you can. When the chance comes up, there is a password that can be entered in the machine that Lucca's mom accidentally turned on. Saving her gives you access to some good gear for Lucca, and changes her backstory at the same time
This video reminded me of the 90's and the feeling of mystery, adventure and surprise videogames had back then, with the SNES and N64. It's really a golden age.
Everything is so balanced in this game
This is my favorite video game ever in life. It means so much to me. 😫
Thank you for all your hard work, Jirard. You and your staff bring a lot of happiness to so many, myself included. Merry Christmas to you all!
Man... I waited years for Chrono Trigger and it's finally happening!! (I'm also waiting for that lovely Xenoblade Chronicles video!)
Loek Gerrits Is that confirmed yet?
Liam F. He said that he plays XC for about one hour each week for 'the completionist', so I expect a video of XC in the near future if he didn't change his plans during his playthrough.
Loek Gerrits me too
It's been about 1 and a half years since he started though...
But Beardman
200 episodes and still no E.T. Atari? And no World of Warcraft, What about the All Stars Pack? WHERE IS MEGAMAN X? WHY HAVEN'T YOU DONE MY FAVORITE GAME EVER???!!@#Q#R%#Q#Q
TheDuckClock, The all stars pack became a joke, and he's already done Megaman X
TheDuckClock uhh... mega man x is episode 1 of the compleationest
Me to
He already did Megaman X 1-4, also the stars pack is a joke.
Thanks for officially ruining the joke guys.
I've been here since the Portal review. But i'm proud of you. You're awesome and you never give up always playing until the end. Lets go for 300 episodes!!
I just realized something (SPOILERS for POKEMON SUN & MOON and CHRONO TRIGGER)
Lillie, Gladion, and Lusamine are basically Schala, Magus, and Queen Zeal. Lillie and Schala are the innocent sister that you wish wasn't caught up with the mess they're in, Gladion and Magus are the brother that starts off as an antagonist but later becomes an ally, and Lusamine and Queen Zeal are the sociopath mother that cares more about a beast that's central to the plot then she does her own children.
my advice when spoiling something new like that put the spoiler lower so its beyond the show more deal
like this :D
lordaizen66 lol, I was hoping it wouldn't be a big deal, but I'll do that next time. Thanks!
lordaizen66 apears like that for me
Hleghe yeah, I edited my comment.
Kingpinn02 kay
I'm still waiting for Knack Jirard
Uh oh! did somebody say knack?????
thegolden hub KNACK IS BACK BABY
King Koleyolis III *HERE COMES DA MONEEEEY*
Been watching old completionist episodes and this one is one of my favorites. When jirard talks from the heart it's so god damned inspiring. Seeing him like this just makes me want to do everything I can to further myself in my pursuits.
If you like Time Travel try out Steins Gate! it's a visual novel but it's the best time travel story ever in my opinion.
aZombieDictator you sir, are absolutely right
Radiant historia
Easily my favourite story in any video game (yes visual novels are games)starts off slow but hits you like a truck
100% agree with "favorite story" and "best time travel story". It's a first person time travel simulator with a gripping and haunting narrative. A roller coasters of emotions that leaves you raw and obsessed by the credits of the true ending. Steins;Gate is a masterpiece of digital fiction.
Is it better than the anime?
Gotta love the classics on his shelf like EarthBound, Final Fantasy, DK Country and... Sonic 06?
Fantastic, beautiful. I remember when my buddy Tony and I played through this game over the course of a month or so back in Highschool. Those were good times, we still play games to this day and we always talk about this and the other games we played and how great those times were. Keep it up!
excellent choice for the 200th episode. one of the greatest rpgs ever made
1:46 "... be sure to act fast."
Be honest, I'm too late aren't I?
I'm right there with you.
-Zach
I kind of miss the first intro, it was cool...and we also had BEARS back then :(
***** Diffrent people, diffrent opinions.
julesmaester most people were shocked and sad when he left, considering that he was forced out.
I wasn't concentrating on the video when it started. so when Jirard said 'it's you' my eyes darted to the screen and I gasped... to realise it was Death... fuck
#Bears4ever!!!!
Why isn't graig here
Question: You mentioned you like time travel plots. Have you played Radian historia on nintendo DS? It features a story which takes place on two separate timelines, and you travel in time between both of them.
I love Radiant Historia. It doesn't play like Chrono Trigger at all but it also felt a bit like a spiritual successor to the series in some ways. I would love to see Jirad talk about it.
omg yes! I loved that game!
Ivalice VKP HAHA They would have to bury me with Majora's Mask!! :)
***** Same; I import tons of video game soundtracks and Trigger and Cross were just two of them (I think I have somewhere close to 150 soundtracks).
***** What soundtracks do you own, if you don't mind me asking? :)
no, plese don't. pass the game to someone and let them enjoy the experience. therefore the legacy will lives on..
***** Nice! I also have the Skyrim soundtrack and it was signed by the composer. I wish I had a physical soundtrack for Oblivion, but I think it's only available as a digital download.
the intro was death defying
BA DUM DIIIIIIIIIIS
You forgot one more thing. If you solo the newgame+ as Crono before bumping into Marle, you will receive the Dream Project ending with a variation. The last dev you talk to will tell you that you have earned a credit roll appropriate to your quick defeat of Lavos - the credits roll extremely quickly.
When I was first played this game and heard Robo theme only one thing comes to mind..
These guys just Rick Roll us before Rick Roll became a thing
Chrono trigger is my favorite game
Thank you for keeping the DK Country music in the new format. I don't know why, but I really love that jam.
I remember using a triple tech against the final boss to absolutely obliterate him, but that fight was still so much fun.
I wanna see him play Elder scrolls morrowind. It'd take him forever.
what about animal crossing I don't think you can even truly complete it
He already completed Skyrim. I don't expect him to EVER go back to an Elder Scrolls game. Especially Oblivion, as it has multiple endings if I'm not mistaken.
Also I want to know how Morrowind ends. I'm not great at it.
DuskHeart13 Skyrim is the easiest RPG I've ever played honestly. It's the only one you can do everything in one playthrough. "Completing" Morrowind is impossible.
Why, so he can verbally rip that to shreds like he did with Skyrim? Basically called it a sub-par waste of time.
I want a chrono trigger remake!
it got shut down by sqeenix.
It would literally be the next best thing because this current generation of young gamers need to know about Chrono Trigger
Lars2Lars9Lars didn't it get a remake on the ds
Still waitin on the Xenoblade Chronicles review...
CasualGamePlayz Same, bro. Same.
I hope Jirard plays it!
I know he started the 3DS version a while ago, did he finish it?
I'm still waiting too......
But it is a LONG game. He might even want to complete the affinity tree with all connections, which is pretty difficult to do.
CasualGamePlayz same best game ever
200 videos... It's been a trip, huh? Love you, Jirard! I wish nothing more than the very best to you and everyone around you!
As someone who lives on the east coast, I have no idea what the deal is with In'N'Out Burger
it's not bad if you and your ball and chain are going to a movie and eating there. not worth it though if you get it to go.
Glad there was a bit of a return to more story synopsis.. but part of me hoped death would say "But Beardman" and reveal a huge shock of a return.. oh well, that bridge was burned long ago
Does anyone know what actually happened between them?
Congrats on the first truly believable double take in acting history!! Jirard if you ever complete every game out there I think you have a promising future in acting my friend!
Of course Kingdom Hearts Death would be X-Death (Because it sounds exactly like Exdeath)
"this is time travel done right" YES! YES! YES!
way to go. earned my like!
I've been going through your videos the last few weeks since stuck at home during the 2020 covid-19 quarantine and let me say you have great content and after watching this particular video I have to say that you are amazing 👏 thank you for helping me pass the time!
You should add a spoiler skip option. Spoilers start 22:20 and end 32:40
I would disagree that's where the spoilers end, since he shows the seventh party member there
28:00 "dont crosh the epock"
"Search For Friends"(FF6) was a perfect fit for you thanking everyone. Here's to hitting 200 Episodes! Congrats!
I've been waiting on this for years
Edit: You should get Satch on the show If you ever decide to review Chrono Cross
I know it is 2019, but I still rewatch this episode! DEATH is awesome!
Today completed Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. Both that and Dawn of sorrow are my favorites in the series.
Love the show man and I'm glad you are able to keep it going!
How did this game even fit on a SNES cartridge? I’ve been playing it on Steam Deck and it still feels like a modern game.
"This should take no time at all"
WAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Also if you look into Cross you should bring on Satchbag.
That's cute
I've been watching since episode 1, and I think this is the best episode. Not only because Chrono Trigger is my favorite game of all time and it changed my life. It's because it feels awesome seeing The Completionist grow over the course of the show. Amazing episode as usual.
Chrono Trigger was part of my childhood. Glad you discovered it. Amused that you discovered it this late.
Great review on the masterpeiece of an RPG by the name of Chrono-Trigger.
I saw this video kind of late...
I remember watching your banjo kazooie in 2012.... You've come so far
you can keep your mom and cats from jumping in by feeding the cats
So..... One more ending?
ZenoDLC yes she walks up and says she is makeing dinner nd you walk home and eat with her marle and lucca
lordaizen66
Let's not make Jirard do an update for just one ending, shall we?
ZenoDLC yea and its not the biggest of deals lols though to be fair i think you can cheat it and feed them right before the end

There. That took a while.
I would love to see the completionist of Drakengard.
Ekalmid Seconded!! I love that series, they're like the only games that mess with you for playing to the very end
Also Suikoden.
All of them.
NieR.
Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Ekalmid god that's just cruel.
200th episode so Greg's comeback maybe? D:
Chino Wantan I wish
NO!! HE STAYS DOWN!
And the final rating of this is: Watch ProJared's review/10
basically. if something could be said about chrono trigger, he said it.
Eh....ProJared is basically Angry Joe. He just overhypes shit.
"searching for friends" from Final Fantasy 6 playing while you thank all your friends ... Nice touch😊
Maybe a hint for the next episode ?
I'm having trouble sleeping at night thinking about a world with Larry Bird on Space Jam.
Sorry about the suuuuuper late reply, but he's said in the past that FF6 will be his second to last review. Just before Donkey Kong Country 2.
Can we agree that there both amazing games on there own rights?
Love the FF6 "Searching for Friends" during the thank yous.
