- The best beginner motorcycle is? Harley and Indian both provide a good beginner motorcycle in the Sportster and Scout 60 but which one is the best? Let's talk about it.
Next up, a 2023 Ford Mustang GT500 vs 1986 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
I had an 88 883 evo sportser hugger that i purchased new for $3999 with the option of trading it in for full price within a year for a big bike The only thing I didn't like was after riding fifty miles the seat felt like sitting on a two by six. Harley Davidson did offer a large capacity fuel tank, highway pegs, screaming eagle coil, ignition module,Mikuni carb, drag pipes, oil cooler and oil cooler thermostat. Also I installed a fly shield which made the front end nervous feeling at 105 mph. I traded it in for a '90 heritage Softail classic. A nice upgrade and comfortable ride.
Harley did offer a stroker kit install for $3000
I tried to buy a base model Sportster 883 in 1995. MSRP was around $5400. They wanted about twice that much, and I would have to wait months for it. They insinuated that if I were willing to pay even more I could get it faster. I told them where to stick it and walked out. Today I have two beautiful Sportsters, an '06 1200L and an '01 883C both bought used for less than the MSRP on the '95 model.
No dig to you at all - - However, in "my opinion" you can't compare a 13 to a 2023 , I don't care if there's minimal changes or not ..If you're going to do a comparison, do it apples to apples. Again, no disrespect just my opinion .
In his defense, it's kind of hard to do a perfect apples-to-apples comparison because the Scout 60 didn't exist in 2013 and the Sportster no longer exists
@@davidleatherwood6228 Sportster is still made.
@@markmaese1599 assuming you class the new Nightster as a Sportster. I refuse to count the Sportster S as a Sportster because it's basically a redone FXDR with a smaller and liquid-cooled engine (Harley really phoned it in on that one)
Actually you can, since they are both EFI. That Sportster is the same as the last year of the Iron model, it just looks a lot better with all that chrome. Now, it wouldn't be fair to compare a 2006 Sportster to a later model anything, because it is carbureted, which makes it way better than anything newer.
Hey great video. Respect your opinion but im gonna have to disagree about the foot controls. In my opinion while forwards can be more comfortable on a long ride, mids give you much better control of the bike as well as allow you to stand up if your about to hit a big pothole or some random road debris. I prefer mids w highway pegs on the crash bar. Thanks for the video!
I have no experience with Indian motorcycles, but have had a Sportster for many years. I think you should have compared the Scout with a Sportster 1200 Custom. The 1200 is about the same horsepower and has similar features to the Scout. In this video I think it would have been relevant to at least mention that there is a 1200 option and models that do offer forward controls.
Enjoyed the video though. Keep your knees in the breeze.
the scout 60 is only 1000ccs where the scout is 1133. the 60 is most comaprable to the 883.
I have a 2006 Sportster 1200 Low. It's a beautiful bike, NO BLACK, other than the frame, seat, and tires, 25.5 inch seat height, will easily hit 120 mph and cause you to lose your license, sounds like a Harley, feels like a Harley, has the 4.5 gallon tank, has mid controls, which I like because I have had knees, but forward controls are available if that's your thing. Also has cast wheels and tubeless tires, unlike the 1200 Custom.
I just found your channel and watched this review. Good stuff! I like your review style.
What helmet are you wearing in this video?
Subbed!
Thanks!
Excellent video.
Despite the year of these bikes, I think the Indian gives a more modern feel.
Personally would have just reviewed each but not compared them. As for me I’m partial to Sportsters and air cooled bikes in general. I can’t ever see myself buying a liquid cooled motorcycle. The 4.5 gal fuel tank wins it for me.
I like your reviews, but respectfully disagree with you on foot control position. While having them out front may be more comfortable, the loss of control from not having them in more of a mid location is better from a control position. It also doesn't allow the rider to stand on the pegs to go over rough spots in the road or to just take weight off of the old bum for a few seconds.
Unless you're a big guy and tall, in which case scrap both of these options because you weight too much and are too tall. So go and get you a Honta vtx 1300, a Vulcan 900, V Star 1100 something in that area. Again, if you're like 6'2 or more and weigh upwards of 250 to 400 (fat or muscle weight, either one yes fat dudes and/ or body builders can ride bikes too) if you try starting on a sportster or a scout or a hondashadow or a rebel or a Yamaha virago or some shit. It's too small.
The Sportster is the clear winner. It is light years ahead of that hideously UGLY Indian. I have a 2006 Sportster 1200L, and it is beautiful. White/black/orange paint, and truckloads of chrome. Aftermarket slip ons (chrome of course) that make it sound like a Harley. And of course it is carbureted, so there is no computer garbage to mess with. I was easily able to tune the carburetor to match the exhaust for under $50. That 883 is what was called the SuperLow, and it has a 4.5 gallon tank. Doesn't quite look right on a Sportster, but gives you a 200+ mile range, and it is NOT flat black. The Sportster would look a lot better with a silver tank and fenders. Something that is not so dark. If you lose track of what gear you are in, you are NOT done learning to ride a motorcycle. My first street bike did not have a working neutral light, and I never even noticed it. Just because that stupid green light is on DOES NOT mean you are in neutral. You have to check it anyway. Blacked out makes it look good??? Blacked out makes it look like GARBAGE. Forward controls are NOT superior if you have bad knees. Funny how I have no problem finding neutral on either one of my Sportsters. "Technology" is definitely something to be avoided when it comes to motorcycles.
Boring
This thing is really old. HD doesn’t even sell the old evo Sporster anymore. Maybe paid by Indian 🤷♂️. Just pathetic
