I've got a 2021 Indian Scout (with ABS). I got a Corbin saddle and pillion seat, Dean Speed sissy bar, and progressive 444 shocks. My wife loves the ride AND i've taken a buddy of mine (another 220 lb dude like me) on a 45 mile trip and there was no problem riding 2-up. The Scout has plenty of power to handle 2 up riding and keeping up with (or passing) California traffic.

I just figure i had a 1600 kawasaki and it was great for going 85 all dat long but then when im just puttering around the grocery store or moving it in the garage it really sucked to muscle around so i think theor 1200 indian is a good middle. I started on a 150cc in the msf course and my first owned bime was in 2016 it was a 1983 honda 650 and it had enoigh peoer for my area but it wasnt as nice to hold 70mph long term. I also had expirience on a honda grom and a 2000cc kawasaki that was the bigger version of the 1600 i owned. It was even better on the interstate but so terribly heavy at slow speeds. So to me the 1200 is an interesting niche because itll be enough you defiently can go across the country but not too big where i csn still move it arpund the parking spots a lot easier. But the wuality hasnt seemed to drop and i notice the smaller the engine tends to be a lower quality bike so you pay a lot but you get some real quality esspecially if you can snag a good enough deal used. You mentioned the scout for short distance. I'm a smaller woman with the scout & road from N to FL & back with no problems. I did put reduced reach handlebars on right away & that made a huge difference. 😀
I own a 21 scout sixty and absolutely love it. It handles very well and has plenty enough get up and go for me. Every time I have to take it to the dealership one of the techs there has to tell me they fired a guy a few years ago for wrecking a customers bike. He said ole dude didn’t ride much and assumed the smaller bike wouldn’t get away from him but he didn’t make it out of eye sight from their shop before it got the best of him
To be honest, I haven’t ridden either. At 6’3” and 230, I’m not a fan of the “Monkey humpin a football” feel. That said, I started on a 1200 Sportster to get used to riding on the road, but quickly upgraded to a Road King. But, I was very impressed by the new Sport Chief so I had to throw a leg over when my dealership got their first one. It didn’t feel as small as I thought it might. The next time I show up Demo Days, the Sport Chief will be my first choice.
I have a 23 rogue and came from liter sportbikes. Super impressed with the power to weight ratio and much more comfortable riding position. The chief is appealing to me with more torque at lower speeds but I have not rode one to really feel the difference.
Thank you for the video, I was interested in both but the RV hitch hauler ramp for motorcycles only offers 600 lbs or 272 kg weight limit. So this helped me out.
I had both for a while, '15 Scout and a '22 Chief. Sold the Scout and wish I hadn't. They definitely different. I loved that the Scout would pull HARD past 9000 rpm once you had it above 4000. I don't know if they changed the Scout since the mine but the suspension and Kenda tires sucked. I didn't mess with the rear but did get Traxxion front fork carts and R2 the tires with Commander 2's. Love the Chief but I really miss the Scout for back and forth to work.
Thank you for mentioning putting that 108 engine from the Challenger into a Chief style bike. I say that all the time, and every time I mention it to a salesman they're so negative
Not sure which bike the black one was, the chief? But its eye candy...beautiful....like the overall style of it a bit more...interested in getting my first cruiser coming from a cbr600rr, im 6 foot 1 and 225....wonder if it would be a good fit for me...
We must not forget where the Scout's origins are... the Scout was originally not an Indian at all; but rather a bike from Indians former sister-company, Victory. The Scout is/was actually a Victory Octane, which Victory released as a tire-scorching muscle bike as a last hoorah before the company was closed.
I did the Indian demo rides last weekend. I did not like the Chief or Sport Chief. The Super Chief was better. I currently ride a Scout Bobber with a Saddlemen Seat, and bars are on the way, i have the Pathfinder headlight installed, and sissybar also on the way. When i rode the Sport Chief, I had it in my head it's going to be way better than my Scout. But it's harder to lean then the Challenge somehow. I love the way the Sport Chief looks, but it didn't feel natural. Now with more forward controls and the bars tilted back, (I'm 5'8) it would be more comfortable at least. But i think the Scout is a better rider.
I also just rode from Dayton, Ohio to Point Pleasant, WV and back. With the Saddlemen seat my butt didn't hurt until the 5th hour. The stock seat on the bobber sucks.
interesting you say the scout doesn't come up to speed as fast as the chief, the scout has a red line of 8K, they really like the higher RPM range. I think that the scout comes up to speed a little faster. just me though.
Sold my '21 Scout 1100 with fewer than 1,000 miles. The bike simply did not feel planted at speeds over 55 mph and wind blast was terrible. Tried the usual fixes: better suspension, multiple windscreens, aftermarket foot pegs, different riding positions--all to no avail. I've been riding for 60 years on two dozen bikes and this was the only bike I couldn't adapt to. May try the Chief next with hopes the extra weight will add stability (and rider confidence).
Good video👍. Both are great bikes in their design and application. Don't need to change to a liquid cool on the Chief, get a Super Chief Limited if you want more go. My Super Chief Limited with stage 2 and Lloydz tune rips around town and mountain twisties effortlessly. Need to pass on the highway, just a little flick on the throttle and you're there. Neither are great for passengers. Even with the backrest, passenger feels cramped after an hour on my SCL. Maybe adjustable passenger pegs or floorboards would make it more passenger friendly, but as of today it's nowhere to be found for the SCL.
I love the old original Indian v twins. So beautiful . I'm very interested in the engines and any weak points. Isn't there a pinion with plastic teeth? It don't remember but the guy on you tube who works on them stripped an engine down and mentioned it. They are expensive and I do like those FTR1200 too but the big torque engine is lovely on the thunderstroke but I ask you American bikers who know American machines so well. I love the Triumph Thunderbird 1700 LT. It's a superb parallel twin that's not well known but seems to be one of the nicest cruisers ever made that's modern and some Victory machines seem very durable and well built.
@@Ian-bq7gp The Indian Thunderstroke engine is ultra reliable whereas the chances of having a breakdown in the first 4 years for these bikes are Ducati 33%, Triumph 29% , Harley Davidson 26%, Victory 17%. The Japanese bikes are all between 11% and 15%. So there's a chance the Triumph will run into some costly repair bills soon after buying it.
I know it's weird, but the Scout with 10" risers, a fairing like the Memphis Shades Road Warrior, and hand guards turns it into one of the sickest looking bikes. Throw a Thrashin' Supply handlebar bag on there with a speaker as well as some bags and you're solid for some serious miles.Yes, it's the basic Dyna setup, but hell if the Scout isn't the Indian version of the Dyna. I think Indian will start to take over as the go to American cruiser brand.
I kind of look at it in terms of which is a better American crusier. The Scout is a better small-ish crusier than anything Harley-Davidson has. It's way better than the old Sportsters, the new Nightster is similar enough to the Scout preformance wise but the Scout has much better asthetics especially the Rogue which I own. But if I wanted a bigger sort of club-style bike, I'd probably pick the Low Rider ST or even just the S over the Sport Chief. The Sport Chief is good, but the Harley-Davidson is a better buy because it's got a bit better performance with the 117 M8 and the fairing and bags on the ST are nice. But I will say the Ride Command stuff in the Chief is really nice and it's too bad Harley hasn't thought to Integrate something like that on the LRS/ST. Basically I think the Scout dominates it's class for a small-ish neo-retro crusier and the Chief, while far from a terrible bike, doesn't.
I have a 2005 Honda VTX 1800 c3 that I'm never going to sell. Love the Indians. Fit and finish seems great. Don't feel like I'm paying extra to buy into the "Look at me, I drank the Kool-Aid" club.
I own a 2018 Scout Bobber, and a 2024 Scout 101. I've ridden the Sport Chief and Chief Dark Horse and for longer distances, I'd ride the Chief, but I also have a 2020 Challenger for long distance so my Scout Bobber and 101 are for doing short trips around town. I love them all though.
I love my 2018 ABS Scout. At 80, my Heritage FLSTS is great to ride but iffy tgo back up n park, somI gave it to my son. The dealers I visited when shoppingbforca new Indian wouldn’t let me test drive them without buying one wsith az 2week provision to redturn it. How would that work? I found minemon CyclrTrader in TX n my son btought it up from Dallas to here by Joliet. So I never rode a Chief, but I love my Willow Green Scout.
Looks like you are comparing the Scout to the Chief 111, I'm curious if the 116 would fare any differently in terms of performance. I'm 6'3 and went with the Chief Dark Horse with the 5-inch risers handle bars with forward controls. Much more comfortable.
I just got a Sport Chief 116, and was able to keep up with my buddy that has a 128 Road Glide (stage 3). Damn thing is fast! It actually seems faster than my 18 Scout Bobber stage 1.
My 2000 Victory Sport Cruiser , similar , stage 4 motor ( all machine work ) some would call it a stage 5 , 1661cc , 112 hp, 118 ftlbs of torque on the Dyno , 13.2 to 1 compression , complete 2003 transmission , pegs raised 1 inch , forward 2 inches , reverse gear pattern , came with the best of everything , corners like it was on rails , wears super bike tires , 24 years , still looking for 6th gear ? It’s not there
Many similarities and yet many differences at the same time. The Chief will appeal more to Harley riders - has that same shove in the butt very low down. But the Scout is the faster & more sporty-handling machine and is 100lbs (thats like a teenage pillion) lighter. So the Scout will appeal more to ex-sportsbike or even Adv bike riders. I bought my Scout new in 2017 and 6 summers later I still haven't found anything worth trading up to. I'm 6'2, 233lbs and the standard Scout suits me fine for 200-mile days. Beyond that I'd take my BMW RT. I bought the Scout to slow me down, but the chassis is so good and the bike handles so well even on the standard Kenda tyres (in the dry, anyway...) I have never fitted alternatives and enjoy chasing sportsbikes. But I live in the UK Our roads are tight & twisty and and the tarmac rough & full of potholes. I rode the Scout Bobber when it launched and dismissed it because its only a bit better than my old hard-tail chop was. Very cool, though... I live the TS engines, but I think theyre better suited to bigger bikes: the LC Scout engine is efficent and packs a real punch. All that said, I wouldb't recommend the Scout as 2-up tourer unless youre both... comoact riders. I ride solo and I intend to keep mine until Indian launch a Scout with the Challenger engine 😎
Exactly what speed does the chief get up to faster? The scout is the faster, sportier bike. Much better power to weight. You might have been in the wrong gear or something.
I've had a scout an now got the. Super chief I found the scout bottom out on corners especially round abouts that's not happend on my chief the reason for selling the scout I have partner and she found the back end uncomfortable so went for the super chief of which she found better all In all both are great bikes just need to sort out after market stuff to make my life happyier
I never liked the cylinder block style on the red scout (this yr looks better) Good video i like the chief darkhorse no flarings or bags ect wish they would do a retro darkhorse with the same style forks and suspension from the 40’s 🤘🏻just my opinion
But you both being bigger guys, you have missed the main sales point of the scout. It's aimed at women and smaller shorter riders, Indian says 5'2" in height but height means nothing its your inseam thats important. I'd put the scout at a 27 or 28 in inseam, maybe a little less. The chief is more of a 29in or 30in min inseam bike. So the scout also is for for a lighter rider 170 lbsor so on high end. Thus excelleration is fine at low rev's. I own both a scout and a chieftain classic, and at 5'6" but short legs 29" inseam the chieftain is realy at the point i am just barly flat footed. An inch more leg would be great, even a extra 0.5" might do.
Ridiculous that they call that a Chief. Its just an upgraded Scout. They need to bring back the REAL Chief and make it look exactly like the Gilroy/Kings Mountain. The new Springfield doesn't cut it

I like the shape of the scouts tank how it sits lower than the chiefs ,and the overall side profile of the scout looks better to me
The hard call for me would be between the Scout and the FTR.
I’d take a Scout over an FTR. Just because it’s my style of riding and of the bike. I think the two are too different to be comparable.
That’s my dilemma right now. At first I was settled on the scout bobber twenty, then I saw the 2023 ftr rally and now I’m stuck

I just got a Sport Chief 116, and was able to keep up with my buddy that has a 128 Road Glide (stage 3). Damn thing is fast! It actually seems faster than my 18 Scout Bobber stage 1.
I’ve owned both too. Nothing beats the Chief.
Interesting Cam mount you have on your lid
Going from 69 to a 108 cubic in engine in a scout would be fun.
The Indian Scout is a Sportster merged with a VROD, exactly what Harley SHOULD HAVE DONE WITH THE SPORTSTER. But they aren't going to, so Scout it is.
Uhhhh , isn’t that what the new sportster is ? A sportster with a liquid cooled Vtwin ?
@@IdiotSavantProductions First I'm hearing of it. (Looks up article)Oh, good, wish them well with it. Still buying a Scout.
I thought the Harley Nightster is their hot rodded Sportster with the liquid cooled fast engine?
Exactly what speed does the chief get up to faster? The scout is the faster, sportier bike. Much better power to weight. You might have been in the wrong gear or something.
Both are beautiful but I prefer the scout bobber twenty somehow
Performance aside the scout is a nicer bike especially if it's the Rogue.
Thank you 👍
What are you doing with them? Chief is a BIG bike, better suited for a long cruise. Scout is a better bike for sporty riding around town.
Im 6 feet 2 inches 200 pounds the scout is too small for me. My favorite is the Super Chief Limited
I never liked the cylinder block style on the red scout (this yr looks better) Good video i like the chief darkhorse no flarings or bags ect wish they would do a retro darkhorse with the same style forks and suspension from the 40’s 🤘🏻just my opinion
How tall are you?
American Biker 👍
I miss my Scout. Sold it cause I didn’t ride it much, but I hope to buy another Indian one day when I have more time.
I own a 2025 sport scout. Theres alot of differences from previous scouts
Thank you.
♥️👍👍♥️
Ridiculous that they call that a Chief. Its just an upgraded Scout. They need to bring back the REAL Chief and make it look exactly like the Gilroy/Kings Mountain. The new Springfield doesn't cut it
🌿 DO YOU THINK THE SCOUTS WOULD BE TOO SMALL OF A MOTORCYCLE FOR A PERSON OVER 6 FT TALL AND 350 LB ❓
BIKE=MANUAL;&CYCLE=MOTORIZED.
I like the looks of the FTR, but none of the rest of the Scout lineup is very appealing to look at.
id rather have a chief if it just wasnt air cooled.
Schwinn=Bikes;&Ndian/H.D.,= Cycles.
Well you forgot to mention that “the Slouch” is water cooled
The Scout is still a beginner bike or a girls machine
clown
Leave the circus.
Grow up
Have you been on one?
Lmao, 2nd gear, I'm doing 80 mph, not a beginners bike.
