Side note: I wouldn't recommend the spicy version of Ippudo. The #1 Ramen place on this list had the best Ramen I tried in Tokyo, Hokkaido, Kyushu and Kansai.

It is not just the ramen, it is the view walking through the streets, seeing the people, feeling the ambience of the environment. That walk in the rain was just perfection.
It was almost like seeing some kind of quasi-futuristic Cyberpunk type of city for real.
It's fine for couple of months. But just like Manhattan, it would get stuffy after that. Lack of greenery really makes me depress when I lived there.
In my Opinion, Osaka and Nagoya are better in terms of life balance. It's lively, but not stuffy like Tokyo. Tokyo is only good for tourism.

I'm Japanese. My favorite ramen is "iekei ramen". This ramen is based on tonkotsu and soy sauce. If someone has an opportunity to come to Japan, please try iekei ramen. I'm sure of you enjoying it.😆

Agree with Ippudo anywhere in Japan (in Berkeley, it was subpar) and Jangara if you happen to be in Akihabara. Ichiran is good, but overpriced. Also, these are all chain stores, although admittedly, the first tier chains. There are some excellent local shops in Tokyo and many notable second tier ramen ships that can easily vie for the best ramen shop, depending on your preferences - there are so many varieties!
Family run ramen shops that have been in business for decades in dilapidated stores are better than chain ramen shop.

3 pork flavored Hakata ramen (1, 3, and 5), 1 chicken flavored Tokyo ramen (2) and 1 sesame flavored tantanmen (4).
Would recommend that you also try miso taste ramen (with various flavor), pork flavored Yokohama "iekei" ramen, pork flavored Jiro ramen, and salt taste ramen with various flavor.
I want to try them all!😀Please come to America, I use to eat at a Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles Angeles that I loved, can't find that food where I live now!😢

Basically, it depends where would you be.
But, I think Enji in Kichijoji is the one of the best Tsukemen shop.
If you wanna eat ramen, I'd like you to go to Waizu in Kanda.
here i am with my cup of maruchan noodles. I do use chicken broth instead of water though and I did go ahead and add a hard boiled egg with it after seeing that first bowl though- delicious with the chicken flavors lol.
Thanks for the video. It does bring up the atmosphere of these places and the surroundings, besides stirring our appetite. Important to single out that these top-5 are according to Tripadvisor, rated by international tourists that have mostly eaten ramen only once in their life. Not uncommon to see "Best ramen in Japan!" reviews, and find out that this is the only one they ever had. Joints like Jangara, Ippudo and Ichiran in Tokyo are no more than nice bowls of ramen, but far from the best. T's Tantan offer some of the most boring dishes one can find in Japan, no wonder so many of their bowls are mostly covered with a whack of chilli, to sooth the appetites of westerners. Yoroya does a good ramen, particularly made amusing by the double yolk eggs. Cheers

The first ramen is the one of the most popular ones called “Tonkotsu ramen” in Japanese. There are basically four types of ramens, “syoyu”, “miso”, “shio”, and “tonkotsu”.
Tonkotsu ramen tastes and smells a bit wired and it far from others. Some guys really love it, but other don’t. It is the most distinguished in taste between Japanese, probably.
Needless to say, I love it the best.
Please try it if you have a chance!

Interesting ... .some of these places are pretty small and I like the background music where I can't understand the words (here in Canada, I go everywhere like the grocery store and it's all the same annoying popular and old songs I don't want to hear ever again but I'm forced to listen too once again!) .... then leaving the place back out to the street , it just looks like a place you won't get gang-mugged around the corner! Quite refreshing!
