8 as a symbol of infinity. "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the Universe." - Albert Einstein quotes This movies tells about humanity stupidity which is infinite.
Regarding the Einstein quote... There are pages, sites, and various places on the Internet devoted to things Einstein did, and did _NOT_ say. His name is often evoked to lend credibility to the claim, but I'm unable to locate this one anywhere. Quotes like this are not stand-alone statements, they evolve out of a lecture or at least a paragraph related to something else. Famous people don't just sit up in bed one morning and blurt out something profound with no context or background information. Also, consider that Einstein wasn't known for his poetry or philosophy. While he was known to have uttered some memorable lines, he was first, and foremost, a theoretical physicist. While it's a clever line, and makes us smile, I seriously doubt that Einstein wasted his valuable time constructing wise-cracks and jokes involving very important and weighty matters.
Loved that. Simple entertainment. Great message and great storytelling technique. This is so hard to achieve. just coming up with an idea like this that can be shot in a single location with a couple of actors and no dialogue, until you've tried to do that, you can't appreciate how difficult it really is. So well done.
Great cinematography ! camera movement and editing is super ! the director is really talented and knows what hes doing , this short deserve awards ! keep on artistes
how beautiful and talented. no dialogue but strong actions n meanings. very very impressive movie. different totally different and excellent directions and acting of both actors.
Mohammed Shabbir X is on foot and they two have been walking quite long so X's platoon is most likely somewhere near... He just has to wait until some of his comrades bring something heavy to put on the mine.
Imagine this game: O starts by landing woundend and marking the center square. Next, X shoots O in the right leg, marking the bottom-right square. Then, while wandering, X steps on a mine, giving O a chance to position himself on the bottom-left square. When O tries to escape, X shoots him in the right shoulder, marking the top-right square and blocking his chance to win. O grabs X's gun but misses his opportunity, losing his turn, so X stabs him in the back, marking the top-left square. Nothing remains. Since X knows O is bound to lose, he attempts a final shot to the head but misses, allowing O to mark the center-top square. The winner is clearly X, but in real life, both somehow lost. Ironically, X ends up helping O by giving him a knife, knowing O would eventually step on a mine so he could dig it out from snow. Truly an incredible short film-funny, dramatic, and mysterious.
It's a German Stuka dive bomber; its distinctive whine wasn't an accident of design; the Germans added a cardboard siren to it to make that deliberate haunting noise.
8 means interlocked. Owl is the referee. Superb music blending Soldier March beats with flapping of the wings of the Owl at the end. Glad it's 500+views, it really struggled to take of when I first watched couple of years ago
A short film, very well filmed, that without any word is comprehensible in all the worl. This short film, for me, seems a hymn to badness, but certainly there is another key of interpretation. Direction and photography have a high professional level.
Funny: he could have used the rifle - placing it across the mine and piled up and packed snow on the ends to weigh it down and secure it. That would have required lateral thinking and giving up his advantage and the willing cooperation of and with his prisoner/enemy. All requirements of any military de-escalation.
Really well made short war thriller, with an interesting plot, intense atmosphere, good acting and an excellent twist at the end. It really makes you think... I really like watching short movies on UA-cam; a great chance for new filmmakers to put up their work and show their talent. Keep up the great work, you are talented. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
This was really good. What I don't understand is all the stupid questions some are asking about this film - "what does the owl mean" words to that effect or - "what is the point?" I mean you have to bring to any art form a level of intelligence to appreciate anything of value without having to be told what to think or what this or that my mean. Some just are dumb as door nails and the art, if it's there, can be wasted on the insensitive dumb lummoxes among us.
Simple. The X and O's represent a game if you will. A real life video game as in "halo" or any other with one that takes it with serious and the other as a way of his being. . But, interpretation is the experience within owns mind aspect . I did enjoy it.
"No Man's Land" 2001 winner of the Academy award for Best foreign language movie it's based pratically on the same topic of two opposing soldiers from ex-Jugoslavia (which it's the same area from the director comes from) and a mine, to me the reference it's obvious, to say the least.
Very entertaining film, great acting, and impressive cinematography. However, I'm not so sure about the explanation for the number " 8 " as the title or its actual meaning. I think the more reasonable interpretation of " 8 " in terms of "infinity" is to illustrate man's inability to learn from his mistakes, continually making the same blunders over and over in an infinite cycle. For those who keep saying that the game tic tac toe goes on forever... then you obviously have never played the game. If you did, you would realize that the game can only end in either a stalemate or a win/lose situation ... both occurring on the 9th move. The obvious interpretation for this particular game of tic tac toe is that there is a stalemate. Whether X moves or O moves has become somewhat irrelevant because someone is sure to lose (although most likely both soldiers will lose in this scenario.) Putting aside the simple fact that antipersonnel mines detonate as soon as you step on them, the chances of both soldiers dying is probable. Your average military APM has a blast radius of approximately 160 ft in circumference with a vertical disbursement of about 6.5 feet. If one soldier should falter then the blast from that soldier will offset the second soldier resulting in a secondary detonation of equal value, thereby creating an even deadlier environment in which neither would be expected to survive. All in all, a very good movie with an engaging plot and worthy of two thumbs up. Great job to the costume designer, actors, director, and the entire production staff. Well done!
For world's peace, all country should throw their weopens in the ocean. For tomorrow , white flowers are everywhere in the world, there is no red. morning and morning, the light on the earth is yellow, let's break the laziness of the child. Let a child wake up without fear. Let the child wake up with mothers warmth. Let the child breath with freedom air.
Oh sure, at 1:15 the guy does the right thing, shaking that match fireless before throwing it away. One never knows... if it had fallen, still burning, over they *snowy* ground the whole forest could catch fire!
Darkly humorous. The only flaw is a good soldier never throws his butts on the ground. It gives the enemy clues. Another tip is that glow of a cigarette drag gives a sniper a perfect target. With life expectancy of an infantry being extremely short, you want to reduce risk to the lowest possible level. Great piece, though. Like War Games in 10 minutes. :)
Owl was enjoying how stupid humans are. Power is not constant, right now it might be in your hands, but tables can and will soon turn and you might be the one, who will be powerless. But still no one will win. Purpose of life is to be like that Owl to sit, fly and enjoy the view and life not fight wars.
If one of these two guys has home and wife somewhere near, he'll be glad to know he didn't just "stand by 'wisely' and peacefully" to make it easier for enemies to claim it and do with it whatever they want. If it's X, great, he won, if not, the wife should better start running if it isn't too late.
+sup yo I think using language would give away too much about where the war is taking place. It would politicise it too much and take away from the point. Just my opinion.
I feel personally that the owl represents the wisdom of knowing that nobody wins in war.
Too good short film...awesome cinematography, location, acting and that sound made by that soldier.

This took me back to "Mad" Magazine's "Spy vs Spy".
This is the soul of film making , emotions at its best
Honestly one of the most intriguing characters ever come across. And never even spoke a word.
Unique cinematography.. amazing..

Short, succinct and to the point. Utterly brilliant. Thank you.
The owl at the end was the cherry on top!
how beautiful and talented. no dialogue but strong actions n meanings. very very impressive movie. different totally different and excellent directions and acting of both actors.
definitely one of the better short films i have seen even though i had no idea what was going on!
X and O represented tic tac toe and maybe it ended in a draw

@@thematrix4601 He's also lucky they were simple mines where weight swap is easy!
Watch past the credits, see what happens.
Thanks for the heart after 4 whole years. I had completely forgotten about this movie and just rewatched it.
Of all the short films I've seen, this may be the one I've liked the best. Great job. Thanks.
I loved this film.... amazing directiin

This is one of the best shorts I have ever seen. Classy.
Seriously. Some masterpieces speak without words.
So why was the mine off to the side of the road? GENIUS......But man man man, this was well done in every way...Loved it
I know I'm four years too late, however, to make a film this goodbwithout saying a word is beyond amazing 👏

High-quality entertainment and stuff to think about. Fantastic.
The moral of the story is "Cigarette smoking is injurious to health"
yes lmaoaoaoaooaoa
Now this is what i call a perfect short film...amazing work..loved the ending...
Why the fuck instead of running in the woods, was he running in the open area? (After the mine thing)
no sound but yet message received...amazing
What a Concept and Cinematography ...!!! Splendid...
The idiocy of war. Well done!
Great job.... thank you for taking the time to make this. (Smile)
NOW THAT'S WHAT I CALL A WITTY SHORT FILM AND I LOVE THAT OWL MAN HA HA HA HA HE ALONE PROVIDES THE BEST ACTING IN THIS SHORT FLICK
Funny: he could have used the rifle - placing it across the mine and piled up and packed snow on the ends to weigh it down and secure it. That would have required lateral thinking and giving up his advantage and the willing cooperation of and with his prisoner/enemy. All requirements of any military de-escalation.
From which village are you?
99 out of 100 who try that approach will be blown to smithereens.
At the end of the credits you hear the mines go off.
@Fawk Muhmad @10:04 bud
Perhaps should have written, Watch to end if credits, instead.
This is so well thought out... Without any words, it beautifully plotted...
I love the owl as a spectator. Great film. I give it a resounding 8 lol

I'll always remember that smile that one soldier had when the other one also stepped on a mine as well hahahaha!!!
That wise owl marveling at humanity's ironic stupidity 🤣

On a scale of 1-10, clearly a 10.
id say its more like an 8
Just wow,... What a concept,....Terribly creative,....!
beautiful...well taken!!
The movie is named 8 because eight is a never-ending loop. It comes back where it started
Would someone please explain the ending. I'm so confused.
A Masterpiece indeed !
"Infinite stupidity" !!
To fully describe, you will need a book to write!!!
"Xccch!"
+Dis Pater I fucking hate that sound.
Everyone does, it sounds like a duck or something xD
*starring "Xccch!" - mickey rourke **4:25*

Simple, good camera angles, a story without words.
Hahaha!! The good part in this movie is the super cool owl, lol
my all time favourite short movie without language.
Two stories. One ending.

Outstanding dude and hats off to the director
*8* denotes loop... Trapped themselves.... And 8 denotes No Starting point & No Ending..... Whoever stays out of loop is wise....&.....safe!!!!
That was excellent. Yes, Karma.
Im just curious. What is with the owl?
+Don Ascanio it's a great gray owl found in the pacific northwest I believe. plus it's the neutral observer. the audience
cool

Wow that is one of a kind (or maybe you can also say 'find'). Unique!
I know this video was made a few years ago, but what camera was used for this? Thanks.
Hi, I think it was Panasonic Hvx200 without any extra kit. DP did a great job.
@@acimvasic Wow, great job!!
Didn't got the ending, can anyone please explain?

Outstanding!
Very good movie, thanks.
i burst into laughter when the seond guy stepped on landmine....

Love how soldier X communicated solely through hissing or whatever the fuck noise that was.
Oh sure, at 1:15 the guy does the right thing, shaking that match fireless before throwing it away. One never knows... if it had fallen, still burning, over they *snowy* ground the whole forest could catch fire!

DAMN excellent cinematography and a very good script
Universal languaje.... loved it!
excellent! But why it's named 8?
Christopher Dailop
8 as a symbol of infinity and repetition of the subject and themes in the film.
+aćimvasić What's with the weird sounds instead of language?
+aćimvasić I thought that was a sideways 8.
+John Smith yes, that too. Infinity of stupidity in this case.
