This is the second in a series of short demakes we're creating! In this second episode we're taking you back in time with "God of War 2018". Which is of course based on one of our favorite RPG's on the PS1: Breath of Fire 4!

My favorite is still BOF 2. I know were going way back but the story captivated me and when I found out the church was evil it creeped me out. My other favorites was Wild Arms, Suikoden 1 and 2. Xenogears. Y's Eternal 1 and 2. Azure Dreams, Alundra. Omg I better stop retro overload

Haven't played God of War, but I can still appreciate all the time it must have taken to perfect these awesome sounds and visuals.
This demake animation is more like a nintendo game but it's still ok and the sound tracks are also not from God of war except the game manu which was also a 2d quality verson of original sound track

Haha I love that Atreus's victory animation is him spinning an arrow, accidentley throwing it into the air, then looking sad after he messed it up

What's texture wiggle?
@@yonyon5432 The Playstation had a very particular rendering quirk where it wasn't able to properly map textures on 3D objects according to perspective, so as objects moved on the screen the texture changed a little bit each frame, hence the "wiggle". I love that they all took turns in the order that would make sense. Like, if they all had speed stats, they'd attack in exactly that order.

Genius video. Breath of Fire 4 is also one of my all time favourite RPGs. I loved the 6 character teams, 3 up front, 3 in back resting. Also loved some of the street fighter moves you can unlock, like Raging Demon. This God of War concept, I'd play this. Capcom and Sony should take note.

What an homage to the Breath of Fire IV. If anyone haven't played the game, please do so. It's an underrated gem and the ending still boggles my mind.

What's really sad is that this is a viable art style for a lot of newer games, and very rarely do games take advantage of this. Just because something looks a bit dated doesn't mean it isn't worth exploring.
I get everything has to be "modern", but modern isn't always great. Sometimes companies focus too much on the dance and not what brought them to the dance, if that makes any sense. Square-Enix could easily make a game that has the look of Final Fantasy 6 for SNES with that art style, instead of everything being smooth.

Recognized the wonderful Breath of Fire 4 style as soon as the battle started, wonderful job! Older games and graphics have a magic that has been lost over the years. Creating a game was a craft, not an industry back then.
I was expecting something like the God of War from the PS2 😋 although that would have been very difficult.
What did you use as inspiration for this version? Xenogears?
No, we took inspiration from Breath of Fire 4 for the PS1. Somehow the image of reskinning it with characters in God of War characters came naturally to mind. And here we are :)
