A video on Season 5 will be coming soon. I'm just debating if it's worth waiting for the rest of the season's content to drop or to do something now.
Could just talk about the content that gets added in the mid-season update in season 6, and mention it in the season 5 video. idk, I'm happy with either option
For the record, I've never seen your channel before on UA-cam, and this vid came up for me. So it's still getting out there. I laughed out loud a couple times so here's a sub
@vitobratta_WL yeah but also unnatural and a bit effed up. I don't know if it was deliberately or by accident but they nailed it and to me they looked a bit alien and haunted or something. It works perfectly.
The body actor for Master Chief in this movie played the games so he could better represent him. Much better than whatever the hell that other tv show was.
Daniel Cudmore bro. The guy is the perfect Master Chief. Check out the interviews he did for this show and you'll see why he's far better than Pablo Schreiber
The Pablo guy is making every Halo fan not like him. Apparently, the dude wasn’t even a Halo fan. I won’t ever be able to watch him in anything again. He ruined his image by insisting his face be shown.
A fun fact for those who dont know. The spartan seen in the classified video, spartan 104, is Fred from blue team. This means John was also most likely there fighting the covenant but just not seen in the video
@stellarfountain2111 It's definitely from the perspective of a spartan and more than likely Chief himself. You see the hand of a spartan (looks exactly like Chief's) pick up a marine. This leads to the comment that these soldiers are freakishly tall.
I love how Halo Legends was ridiculed at release because of how different it was to Halo's other output at the time. But it's since garnered a little cult following.
@@LaperLarden You know what's ironic aswell? Halo was heavily based of mecha anime in this concept arts and designs. Thats why it translates so well into it. People like to think halo was gritty and realistic but every game up until reach had a very cartoony feel to it. I mean alot of the animations where hand animated up until reach had motion capture.
@@KalicoKalYeah and the soundtrack for it was done by marty aswell. Unlike the halo tv show. Sacred icon suite 2 for legends is amazing. so good that 343 used it for MCCs season trailers
@@LaperLarden halo legends entirely got hate for being anime because I’m a lore junkie and can’t get over seeing the experimental mech version of mjolnir or an actual prophet assassination
I remember when it was released as a series. I caught each episode and the leadup to the end was hype. It was awesome. Unlike the other shows, it felt like a lot of love was put into this from the source material. And the music made an impact for me. So good.
Oh man I remmembef beign at a Bus just refreshing youtube like crazy to watch the next episode week after week as they released on UA-cam, crazy experience hahaha
@MeganAndersonsTampon Initially, it was released in an episodic format free on Halo Waypoint and Machinima UA-cam channel, although I don't remember if Halo Waypoint had a YT channel back then, I 100% remember watching it in episodes 5 in total
Something that wasn't talked about enough were the performances in this movie. The actor that plays lasky is really good. And the girlfriend was played by the chick from Narnia, she was good in this too
I find it a bit amusing that the actress is only ever known as "the chick who played in Narnia and that HALO series/movie". Like, no one ever remembers her name and I don't think she I've seen her in like anything else. But ya know, I think I'd be able to live with myself if I was only ever remembered from Narnia and HALO. Not a bad way to be remembered, honestly lol
I love how this show wasn’t about the Spartans but the much more human people living in the Halo world. It made chiefs arrival so much better since he is such a contrast to every else
Exactly. Spartans should be used sparingly in Halo movies/tv shows and never be the main character. They exist as humanity’s greatest weapon, and also doubles as its brightest light at the end of a dark tunnel. They should be used after a situation has turned hopeless, to make it feel like you’ll survive or even win due to their presence and military strength. Making them the main focal point (outside of the games) diminishes that role and their value, and almost makes them seem like regular ol’ Jim Bob who maybe is a little special in some way.
@@clark2501 Facts Spartans should be seen like some kind of Angles! You cant say they exist until you see one and when you do its like holy shit am i dead or alive right now? The only time there should be a main focus of spartans in a movie or a show is if they are fighting or on some kind of mission! Halo reach the game had awesome moments showing individual spartan personalities but they never gave us so much that we didnt see them as mysterious but just enough for us get attached to certain characters. Paramount missed the mark on every detail.
This looking like a masterpiece compared to Nightfall and the Paramount show is definitely an understatement! This along with Landfall and the other live action trailers are the peak Halo translated into real life.
@@TheZamaron not the point. Seemingly not enough of you actually support the stuff you like enough, for it to continue to get made the way you want it to be.
@@bobdylan1968 dude, you do know companies lately have often lost sight of what makes something good, or forgot the core elements that made it so popular. Who ever was in charge of the show’s direction lost sight of the core story elements that make up Halo, and literally wasted money making a show that in the d was pointless and largely hated by the fans. So yah you clearly have no idea what you’re even taking about. The show strayed too much from what made Halo, and threw in some unnecessary things.
@@blueguy2128they were face to face with something they’ve never seen before that was bigger than them, had a device that makes it practically invisible, and a sword built from unknown technology that cuts through just about anything. And they had no weapons to defend themselves with. You’d do the same thing in that situation, and it makes for a somewhat horrifying scene when you have no idea what to expect.
@@clark2501 Yo I'm talking about the Covenant. The Elite dies a stupid death just standing there after killing weak civilians which is something Elites frown upon, they're above that you kn how they are so they leave that dirty work to the "lesser" species. Like when they unleashed a horde of starved Grunts and Jackals on civilians instead of killing them themselves. The Hunter is made out to be slow and dumb when they were well known for sudden bursts of extreme speed and intelligent tactics that the big 3 (Elites, Spartans, and Brutes) all feared, and the Jackals aren't as accurate as they should be and just drop like flies when shot at.
I absoultely love the reveal of the covennant in this movie, especially that elite zealot. The way he ominously moves through the dark, foggy battlefield to strike down the human statue, then being lit up a by the light from his energy sword, gives me goose bumps every time. Also, the zealot armor was by far the best-looking elite armor in halo 4/5, mainly cuz it covers up their ugly faces
If we ignore their comically massive feet, then yes they are indeed the best design for the zealot, but I do also like the ce version of it the gold Armor is just too iconic
@Prankester6856 nothing beats the CE designs, kind of a shame we never got to see a faithful modern rendition of those (infinite elites probably came closest)
I just want to say I appreciate how the writers made the Covenant look like such a huge threat in just the span of three minutes. Not saying they aren’t in the games but when you are blasting them away as Chief or whoever else you do get caught in the moment having fun and forget they are a huge threat, unless you’re playing Halo 2 on Legendary. The Covenant at this point is a new and unknown enemy to most people so naturally these Marines and cadets will be scared and unsure what to do, other than shoot it of course and the actors do a great job at expressing that level of fear. You were pretty spot on, Laper, when you described the beginning of the second half of the movie as some horror flick. The way the ODST’s drop in the courtyard telling the characters and the audience something horribly wrong is about to happen, the way Covenant Corvettes appear in the night sky and blow the space elevator away causing cadets and other army/navy personnel to fall from the elevator as some on the ground get crushed by the falling debris, the way Lasky seemingly has a surreal moment as he sees trained Marines including Mehaffey get slaughtered by Covenant ground forces, the way the few surviving cadets play a dangerous game of cat and mouse with an Elite using Active Camo, it all oozes professional writing and respect to the source material to me. Now hurry up and tell us your thoughts on Season 5, we’re not giving you a choice (this is a threat).
When i first watched this movie as a kid, i barely understood what happened as i found it after playing Halo 4, my first ever halo game, who's lore seemed incomprehensively arcane. After rewatching it recently, i finally understand what happened in Halo 4 and this movie
Feel bad for anyone playing halo 4 onwards as their first halo not a good representation of the amazingness of halo, halo CE veteran here , 343 has never lived up to bungie
@@jonjones66696I don't understand this obnoxious gatekeeping nostalgists do when it comes to which Halo to you started with. I started with Halo 3 but I played Halo 4 WAY more. I played Reach AFTER 4 but did it make me disliked Reach because it wasn't like 4? Of course not. I played 5 after that, then 2 and CE. How horrible! I played Halo 5 before the OG Halo CE! My brain must be so corrupted from playing Halo 5 that I would surely hate CE and 2, right??? There's this terrible sentiment that players who start with 343's games wouldn't like the older games or have their view of the series be tainted but this is completely untrue. It's a lie made by nostalgists to feel better about themselves because "We're the TRUE Halo fans hurr durr!"
@@jonjones66696I actually loved Halo 4 mostly because you didn't die immediately when somebody started shooting you and I preferred that to call of duty
This movie has always been underrated. I loved it even when it came out. Now with the trainwreck of a halo tv show we got I bet a lot more people will be appreciating this for how good it was.
I remember getting so many chills watching the Elite's decimate the the soldiers and officers out in the open. That scene was fantastic. Definitely need to rewatch it after seeing this. Banger vid my man! 💙
Thanks man! The entirety of FUD is available on UA-cam (not that I'm condoning piracy, I would never do such a thing... Never). So if you do want something to watch while taking a break from Season 5 of Infinite, go for it!
I really REALLY want a more realistic take on the halo universe. Something gritty like band of brothers style, either during the midst of the Human-Covenant war, or transitioning from the Rebel war to the beginning of Human-Covie war. It’ll never happen b/c 343 want to market the franchise to as many ppl as possible. If we can’t get a good live action halo show, then at least do an animated one. Halo Legends is a testament to how well animated Halo was received by the community
The Halo story, Dirt, from the book Halo Evolutions, will be the perfect thing to turn to a movie or show. It's a story about colonial Marines before the covenant war. They fight innes and later, the characters become ODSTS right as the Covenant attack humanity for the first time. The story continues from the start of the war, to right before the Covenant attacks Earth. The story also includes the main character from Halo 3 ODST. I don't want to spoil any major details, and I recommend you read this story for yourself. If you can't read the book or don't want to read the book, I recommend you watch the video from Halo Evolved on the story Dirt, as they basically explain everything that happens in the story.
I remember waiting a week to watch each part of this movie on the old Halo Network. I love this movie and try to watch it every few months. Halo 4 is still my favorite.
Legit love Forward Unto Dawn. Halo Legends armour in live action was great to see and the secrecy surrounding the Covenant was awesome I think you describing the Covenant assault as a horror movie is spot on. It’s so chilling, and so awesome to watch
I loved the scene of vickers desperately trying to bash open the weapons locker with no success only for master chief to just punch it once and it opens. Just shows how much stronger and more formidable spartans are compared to normal humans
It has some flaws lets be honest. But compared to all the official live action stuff out there, its one of the best. It genuinely feels like Halo. Plus lets be honest, 14:58 itself when Kelly and Fred took off their helmet but Chief kept his on only shows how big of dumbasses the people from Paramount were.
This movie was my gateway drug to halo. I absolutely loved it, especially seeing the hunters for the first time as they stalked chief and the survivors through the woods. Excited to see what your thoughts are on it. Edit: Yup, I agree with that sentiment.
@@LaperLarden It was! Back when I was in 2nd grade(I think), my dad played FUD on Netflix for the both of us to watch. Immediately after watching it, I went on to find out more about halo and also that my dad had halo reach on his Xbox 360, and the rest is pretty much history. Also, thanks for replying Larden.
I always liked this. Really felt like it captured some important elements that are usually glossed over in the games. Chief got some good moments. Hell, even a Noble 6 reference? Yeah, that was awesome.
There isn't a Noble 6 reference. This is set at least 5 years before the start of the Spartan 3 program began, let alone those of Beta company (and the others after, which six was a part of) not even being born yet.
God this was nostalgic for me , i remember watching this while i was in college. Compared to the joke of a tv show and other adaptations (more the tv show) this was one of the more accurate forms of media at the time. Character and world building was decent , when they were getting ready to evacuate you felt the tension build as the odst drop pods plummeted down through the night sky. The convenant cruisers slowly encroaching on the school and the sky elevator. Kinda want to go play reach or odst now 😂
I love this entire series. Not is it the only video/movie that depicts pre-Human-Covenant War attitudes besides Fall of Reach, it gives excellent characterization for Lasky and his squad, shows the sheer _terror_ of a Covenant invasion back when no one knew what that looked like, and highlights the mysticism of the Spartans. It always struck me as odd that what felt like the entire Halo community was dismissive of this series when it came out. Now people are suddenly looking back on this fondly after 2 stumbles. And this series is part of why I like Halo 4's story quite a bit more than most of the other games. Note: the way you pronounce Hastati sounds like 'Astartes', as in the supersoldiers from Warhammer 40k. It got me thinking about some things. If Microsoft and 343 really wanted a story centered around the Spartans, it would probably be better to stylize it after the 'Astartes' fan animation, meaning mostly action and minimal dialogue. Ironically enough, the Space Marines in Astartes feel more cold and uncompromising than the Spartans as of late despite the fact that most of them are bloodthirsty zealots described as Angels of Death instead of cold, professional soldiers.
While I have no problem with Astartes acting like that, I do like me some screaming zealots like those in the Dawn of War games or BoltGun. I like the variety of flavors they come in.
The buildup to the Covenant was so well done. Because you know that they're coming. You don't know when, but with each new episode, you know that they're steadily getting closer and closer to the academy, and that these cadets stand no chance on their own. And when that first ship descends, taking out the space bridge, the whole rest of the movie changes to a straight-up horror film. It's so good.
Fun fact, the suits worn by the other members of blue team in this movie were in fact the suits used in the reach Delivering Hope Trailer. They simply repainted them for the short scene in this film/miniseries
this movie always sticks in my mind because i remember the day the last part dropped (since it was being uploaded in parts on machinima) was about a week after hurricane sandy knocked out the power for about a week, and that night my friend invited me to his house cuz his family had a generator and when i got there we saw that the last part had been uploaded which was just perfect timing as we eagerly watched the action packed conclusion. we were under no impression that this was a masterpiece or anything, and we were aware of the budgetary constraints, we just enjoyed the fact that halo finally broke into a more long form live action media after years of teasing it. it was really cool to see at the time, and it was done competently
Forward Unto Dawn was undeniably the best live-action representation of Halo that set expectations moving forward. Years down the line they managed to mess it up despite matching the aesthetics and having a bigger budget.
In the Japanese Dub, this movie was the last time Master Chief's OG Seiyu, Tani Atsuki, Voiced him, after Halo 4 he was now voiced ever since by Rikiya Koyama
When this first came out, people hated it. Bunch of reasons why, but mostly "no Chief" and "whats with the school?" Looking back now, I wonder how many are keeping to themselves rather than acknowledging that this was actually good enough
I mean I was like 15 when this came out, and I didn't love it. I think the big issue for me was that it was originally a series and the first 3 episodes were just the school stuff. Once the action happened I was onboard. When I watched it a few years later as a movie I thought it was great and the pacing was much better. Now in my late 20s I definitely appreciate what FUD did and wish we got more movies like this in general not just for Halo.
You are spot on with the "nice bit of nostalgia". When Chief lifts his head after destroying the Hunter, me and my brother noticed the Halo monks chant and we both felt goosebumps. Forward unto Dawn really was such a great live action adaptation, and Hollywood and 343 constantly fumbling it is nothing short of tragic.
Dawg the part with Lasky running as the Hunter is trying to kill him is so good. The costume design is damn near perfect for Halo. Chief's armor is (again, like in Infinite) The Package Halo Legends armor. Which is cool, but seeing his CE Mark V would have been really really damn cool.
Amazing how good an adaptation can be when it actually respects the material instead of trying to "fix" things or reimagine it with personal fanfiction...
6:55 caught me off guard, I almost spilled my drink. I picked up a DvD copy of the film years ago on a fleemarket and I still give it some rewatches every now and again.
Man that music brought back the memories. This movie will always be special, because even though the production value isn't much, it's still canon to the games and main story, and it fits in so seamlessly, there's no conflict with anything. Back when 343 actually gave a damn about being true to the canon.
Great video, i just wanna say you did DIma a bit dirty at 8:53. She didn't abandon her squad she wanted to take all of them with her but they elected to follow orders and wait in line, that was when she went on without them.
I remember getting this on DVD second hand and watching it on my Xbox 360. I really enjoyed it as a kid and although this isn’t saying much, its far better than the Paramount show.
I watch Forward Unto Dawn probably at least twice a year since it came out and love it every time. The Visuals they were able to achieve with such a limited budget and what is now, over a decade old technology. Granted, it could have been the characters having a tea party and I would still love it (watching as a teenager) but I think the way they handled it with real sets and CGI
The reveal of not just the Covies, but also the Spartans in this movie gives me chills *every time.* As Halo players, we tend to get desensitized to these events, but from the perspective of regular humans in the Halo universe, seeing aliens and genuine super soldiers for the first time is chilling and exhilarating. And it makes so much sense from the lore standpoint, given the covert nature of original Spartans (who were created in secret to kill other humans, not aliens), and the lack of general knowledge of the Covenant at first. It was also kind of ironic that Chief especially got such an incredible, awe-inspiring entrance, when he was kinda treated like garbage in most of H4. ("I thought you'd be taller"). Another note on Chief, his armor is unbelievably well done. It looks and feels heavy and powerful, though also surprisingly agile. In my opinion, it *thoroughly* sh*ts on the armor from the Paramount series, which is *10 YEARS NEWER* HAHAHAHAHAHA- My ONE complaint with this show is that it suffers from 343 syndrome, where the covenant are wearing armor from the later era of Halo 4 and 5, rather than their earlier, lore-accurate armor, but this complaint is very minor all things considered. All in all, fantastic movie, and one that caters remarkably well to both die-hard Halo fans and people who have never even heard of the games. (Wow, I really didn't need to say all that did I). 😅
Reach and ODST are 2 of my top 3 Halo games, period. And both are spinoffs from the mainline story of Chief. But set in the same universe, always hinting at or outright showing us where in the timeline they are set. I've always loved the idea of the Halo universe as a whole. Show us more stories, like Halo legends, any of those shorts could easily be made in to LA and expanded upon. Or create a new idea, as mentioned in the video, as long as it's set in the same universe, using sounds and designs that we're all familiar with, I and I believe many of us would eat that right up given the right setting and script. Hell even the entire cutscene cinematics made by Blur in H2 would be an awesome thing to se LA. And I would go as far as to say that any campaign from the Halo series can be made in to LA, with a canon story taken from the players gameplay, but stretched out to give an opportunity for a broader narrative to exist. Give us the time between Chief landing on the Dawn in H2's Ciaro Station and to when Outskirts begins.
Master chief is perfect in this movie. I don't think it's true that he's devoid of character in the games. He has come a long way since Halo4, but his main characteristic is that he doesn't show his emotions. He's bruised by everything that's been done to him, but at the same time, he has to remain the implacable soldier in the face of danger that he is, and put his feelings aside. And the emotions in question could be explored in a series or film, bearing in mind that they are repressed. Halo 4's intro with DR Halsey does this very well.
FUD was so good, especially as a kid. Looking at it now yeah its a bit dramatic but the suspense and characters were so cool to see back then, I was so happy when the big man arrived and terrified when the elevator went down
12:31 you know, I always thought that they shot him in the leg to create extra burden on master chief, since he never leaves a man behind. Killing the Marines would’ve made chiefs job easier, it wouldn’t have been a nice outcome but it would certainly have pissed John a lot, so yeah, injuring those he’s protecting is a very smart move.
I remember watching this when I was a kid, all I knew of halo was mega bloks sets which I got when it first came out so this made all my enemies that much stronger and was genuinely terrifying
I feel like this is such a an underrated movie. It's not only a good movie. It gives a great representation of what's it's like to be a completely helpless, normal human in the midst of the Human - Covenant War.
I saw this movie first at school back in 2015. Right before we got out for summer break. Beforehand, I had only played Halo Wars 1, so I knew about Halo but wasn't interested in it. Then I saw this movie, and it really kickstarted my interest in the franchise.
for those that didn't read the main 3 books, Spartans received their regenerative shields after blue teams assault and destruction of a covenant super carrier Unyielding Hierophant. where one of the spartans salvaged and used a jackal shield that ended up overheating and welding itself to the armor. By retro engineering the wrist mounted jackal shield the Spartans brought back, it allowed Dr. Halsey and the scientists behind project Mjolnir to outfit spartan armors with full body shields. its been a while since I've read them so my facts might not be 100% correct, but it is what i remembered.
One of my absolutely favorite parts is the slow mo shot of Chief jumping in the way of a jackal round to save a cadet (can’t remember which one). The music makes it so epic and every time I see that scene I just think “YES! That’s EXACTLY the Chief I know and love” (and how I play)
Would have been cool to see Noble 6 on his armada decimation spree prior to the events on Reach. But in all fairness i think Halo 3 ODST would have been a good place to start with a Halo series. It could have followed Bucks journey from the events of New Mombasa and to how he became a Spartan. Nathan Fillion would have been perfect for the role considering he is the basis for the character. I genuinly think it would have been a better starting point. And then having rare spinoff events perhaps to ensure we get see other Spartans as well, but still try to keep them a bit scarce for the beginning and then meeting once or twice in later episodes as the pieces of the puzzle (stories) start to fit together (converge) where we see many spartans on a final operation following all or many of the introduced spartans through that season. And better yet make all those converging stories from season 1 also have some relevancy in season 2 as well as the finale of the season 1. and then do more season that carries some relevancy to previous seasons for smaller plots and plot lines converging to a medium plotline where the final season cenverges everything into a massive plot. That is how i picture a good series in any genre, and Halo definitely would benefit from such plotline. It would turn Halo more popular than it ever has been and would be a better foundation for potential spinoffs carrying new stories. How cool would it be to have even more series converging as well with various Spartan teams, ODST’s and Marines where a later series converge some of them into further plotlines carrying many stories as one big story?
I love this movie, it wasn't until I rewatched it recently that I noticed the spartan you see earlier in the film when the marines and the insurrectionest fight together is none other than Fred himself
I remember watching this movie when I was young and was first introduced to halo, I didn’t really understand the plot like I do now but the elites scared the shit out of me. They used their designs perfectly in this movie
The cool thing about this movie is that they give a high amount of value to the elite as they should. They show it in the classified clip and all the cadets react in horror to it. Later, only one elite shows up, and this gives the concept of the elite a lot of value as opposed to the grunts and jackals which they deserve.
I also remember waiting for each episode to come out on UA-cam back when it wasn't a film yet. The hype was immense for Halo 4. Got invited to the launch of Halo 4 via facebook and they showed it as a complete film in a theater. I am really glad I got to see it in the theater. Too bad it wasn't screened on Theaters afterwards.
Not gonna lie. I really love this depiction of Master Chief. By the way he is moving and carrying himself you know he's still a young Spartan. Yet he's fearless. Really loved that movie overall. Just wish we'd see more of that Master Chief and Blue team
FUD wasn't perfect but it was made with passion AND respect for the game and it's fan base. I believe with a higher budget it could have been a little more fleshed out but for it's budget it did amazing!
I used to hate this movie when I was younger due to the art style but I recently rewatched it and I have to say when compared to that garbage pretending to be a halo TV show FUTD is 500x times better. It really captured how horrifying the covenant can be to a regular human. It’s quite impressive especially since FUTD was a low budget film in the comparison to the TV show
The better way to tell the Master Chief's story would be from the vantage point of other marines as someone investigates the Legend of the battlefield, turning up when in most dire need, as in Forward Until Dawn. MC as a character is already larger than life, we know the lore, what we want is how he affect the changes on the ground, so to speak and the lives he impacted, civilian and military.
Goes to show that being a 200 million production doesn't mean a goddamn thing. Forward Unto Dawn was done at a lower cost but feels more genuine and full of soul then the corporate husk of a show we got by people who never studied the games. I used to hate this movie as a kid but with studying film and Screen-writing I've grown to love it and not because the paramount show was bad...because it was a fun piece of entertainment on it's own that also respected the universe it was adapting.
I remember really liking this one and it's definitely the best of the live action Halo projects. I found it really slow to begin with but man when the Covies show up it hits. I also remember my girlfriend (now wife) finding it on Netflix, watching it, and telling me she enjoyed it and wanted to get into halo more. Great video man! Phenomenal job as always!
Forward Unto Dawn is honestly one of my favorite movies to put on when I just want to chill out and enjoy Halo. I would take a series based around this, or hell, a series based around the Spartan II's growth, like an adaptation of the OG Fall of Reach book! Now that would be fun.
FUD truly displayed the technological deficit between the UNSC and the Covenant in terms of weapons. In the new shitshow, an Elite falls to a dozen or so hits from an MA5. Jimmy Rings is playing on Easy.
"be more like chief from FOD" Me: switching empty energy sword to that sweet battle rifle this marine has. At least he is still alive :D With nothing to fight back, tho...
Honestly, this movie is amazing, that part where Lasky distracts the hunter so chief can plant the grenade gives me chills everytime when the music starts.
I haven't watched much of the various Halo shows but I did watch this close to when it came out and I remember finding it a slow start but the latter half knocked it out of the park despite a clearly low budget. Watching it again I actually really appreciate that the first half is such a played straight teen drama because it makes the hard left into horror when the Covenant invade that much more impactful. It really sells the core premise of the Halo series, that humanity has it's back against the wall. And the reality of living in this universe is terrifying knowing your classic teen drama could be upended as everyone and everything you know is obliterated in alien plasma fire in a matter of hours. But all that bleakness is what makes Master Chief so special, the stoic, faceless superman that can take the fight to the monsters and is as equal parts protector and inspiration to his frail mortal human comrades. Yeah, F.U.D. is not perfect but man does it nail the themes and feeling of Halo.
I remember when this came out it got a lot of flack for some of the cinematic decisions and the intro, but this show/movie has by far been the best besides Halo Legends for the series. I would love to see more Halo films and short-films with a focus on humans and marines/odsts. I think a lot of the books would even make for great films.
Loved this film makes a perfect start of a franchise. Got my best mate into halo. Going through all the games (curruntly on 3) gunna show him this film.
I played ODST, Reach, Halo 4, and Infinite I didn't play to original games sadly beyond reach, but this movie is for me the definitive cinematic experience for Halo. I also loved Legends didn't know other people didn't like it, it was a really good show though.
I remember finding this movie shortly after I had played through halo 4s main story, when halo 5 was little more than a rumour, I fucking loved it, every god damn second of it I thought the focus of lasky was perfect and the minimal amounts we saw the covies was perfect, I always reccomended this movie whenever I get the chance and I will not let anyone forget about it
Mark IV armor was made from a very specific molecule of titanium. So while they had no energy shield, it was truly THE BEST form of titanium in existence.

I also liked the bit called out about the Spartans faces. I think it's perfect they look a little odd. Feels exactly like it should be to be honest.
@@ErikLosLobos I think that's because they are perfect humans in a way, like genetics wise and being extremely healthy
@vitobratta_WL yeah but also unnatural and a bit effed up. I don't know if it was deliberately or by accident but they nailed it and to me they looked a bit alien and haunted or something. It works perfectly.
@@ErikLosLobos That's pretty much how every spartan looks, except chief has a ton of battle scars

A fun fact for those who dont know. The spartan seen in the classified video, spartan 104, is Fred from blue team. This means John was also most likely there fighting the covenant but just not seen in the video
Most likely it is Cheif’s perspective and helmet cam footage that sully pieced together.
I think it's said that the headcam was a marines, plus we don't see the armored arm or hand of a Spartan but one of a marine
@stellarfountain2111 It's definitely from the perspective of a spartan and more than likely Chief himself. You see the hand of a spartan (looks exactly like Chief's) pick up a marine. This leads to the comment that these soldiers are freakishly tall.
You can hear him talking over the video when he says “Be advised, unknown hostile detected” or something along those lines
@@MindedJewel Just so we're clear. Halo 5 didn't happen. So what happen with blue team, never continued with halo 5.

I really think this movie and halo legends deserve more love. They both are great adaptions of halo.

Yeah, when Chief finally showed up, I felt just as in awe as the cadets did.
This movie did Halo and the Spartans justice.
This is probably the only visual media produced by Halo (apart from the adverts) that is worthy of the name.

This looking like a masterpiece compared to Nightfall and the Paramount show is definitely an understatement! This along with Landfall and the other live action trailers are the peak Halo translated into real life.

Absolutely! Elites in Halo 4 are definitely one of the designs of all time... With their weird lookin' beady eyes that are too close to their mouth.
Was confused when they used halo 4 elites like that amror didn't exist until way after
My friend worked on VFX for Forward Unto Dawn. He always talked about how everyone was just so stoked to be working on the iconic franchise.
I’m absolutely dumbfounded that FUD accomplished what it did with 10 million when the halo show had that much PER EPISODE

Forward unto dawn was a great mini web series and was leagues better than the Halo tv show. They nailed the Master chief in that mini series.
I've been quietly campaigning for a sequel to Halo Legends for years now. I'd sell my left nut to have it confirmed by 343.

I think you describing the Covenant assault as a horror movie is spot on.
What a blast from the past i remember watching F.U.D couple of years ago it’s not perfect but man this is one of the best live action adaptation.
This movie was my gateway drug to halo. I absolutely loved it, especially seeing the hunters for the first time as they stalked chief and the survivors through the woods. Excited to see what your thoughts are on it.

This movie got me into Halo in the first place. The intrigue, the grittiness and Chief's epic entrance made this movie really stick out to me.
When Forward Unto Dawn released, it was a web series on Halo Waypoint. But then stitched together as a movie.
So good, I love it.
Thank you for bringing this movie the credit it deserves! It’s always been one of my favorite movies I looked back on fondly.
Glad you enjoyed it!
In the Japanese Dub, this movie was the last time Master Chief's OG Seiyu, Tani Atsuki, Voiced him, after Halo 4 he was now voiced ever since by Rikiya Koyama
It's great that more people are finally acknowledging the good of F.U.D.
When this first came out, people hated it. Bunch of reasons why, but mostly "no Chief" and "whats with the school?"
Looking back now, I wonder how many are keeping to themselves rather than acknowledging that this was actually good enough

Finally! A Halo movie that has respect towards the source material MUCH like Halo Legends! 😊

Forward Unto Dawn always reminds me what I like about HALO
Man that music brought back the memories. This movie will always be special, because even though the production value isn't much, it's still canon to the games and main story, and it fits in so seamlessly, there's no conflict with anything. Back when 343 actually gave a damn about being true to the canon.
Great video, i just wanna say you did DIma a bit dirty at 8:53. She didn't abandon her squad she wanted to take all of them with her but they elected to follow orders and wait in line, that was when she went on without them.
I’m glad someone on UA-cam talked about this movie bc my sister and I were starting to think it was a shared dream we had when we were kids
In my opinion, it *thoroughly* sh*ts on the armor from the Paramount series, which is *10 YEARS NEWER* HAHAHAHAHAHA-
My ONE complaint with this show is that it suffers from 343 syndrome, where the covenant are wearing armor from the later era of Halo 4 and 5, rather than their earlier, lore-accurate armor, but this complaint is very minor all things considered.
Some of my favorite memories from this time was going to my friend’s house once a week to watch the latest episode of this series on UA-cam.
I remember watching when it premiered as a series, and I absolutely loved it.
It’s quite impressive especially since FUTD was a low budget film in the comparison to the TV show
Your last description of nightfall is how I describe the paramount show. Love it
This crazy how this seems so much better than what we've got 😭
Actually Hesduros Zealots from Halo 4-5 were used in the Covenant on occasion. Same with most things from Halo 4-5.
"be more like chief from FOD"
Me: switching empty energy sword to that sweet battle rifle this marine has.
At least he is still alive :D With nothing to fight back, tho...
Honestly, this movie is amazing, that part where Lasky distracts the hunter so chief can plant the grenade gives me chills everytime when the music starts.
I wish Lasky was in Infinite more, maybe having fallen back on his marine training to lead a group of survivors.
This movie has one heck of a beautiful soundtrack!
I played ODST, Reach, Halo 4, and Infinite I didn't play to original games sadly beyond reach, but this movie is for me the definitive cinematic experience for Halo. I also loved Legends didn't know other people didn't like it, it was a really good show though.
13:41 that sounds like something from from a messed up fan fiction 😂😂😂😂😂
Someone FINALLY covering this! Almost NO-ONE does!
This part of the video made me laugh 😂 4:08
"Good soldiers follow orders"
When this came out I could only imagine what other great stories 343 could tell with live action halo.... how wrong I was...
The militarism in this movie is spot on as well. The run cadences, the banter, ect. feels authentic. Underrated flick
I remember finding this movie shortly after I had played through halo 4s main story, when halo 5 was little more than a rumour, I fucking loved it, every god damn second of it I thought the focus of lasky was perfect and the minimal amounts we saw the covies was perfect, I always reccomended this movie whenever I get the chance and I will not let anyone forget about it
Best Halo Movie/Series we’ve ever gotten. I kinda wish we got Fred and Kelly’s Halo Legends armor and an appearance of Linda but overall, I love it.
Mark IV armor was made from a very specific molecule of titanium. So while they had no energy shield, it was truly THE BEST form of titanium in existence.
