On the modding front, Starfield is the PERFECT "modding platform" for star trek, star wars, stargate, alien, and basically any other sci fi franchise. It's only a matter of time before we get Correlian Freighters or Klingon Birds of Prey, and I'm so here for it.
It is quite literally the biggest modding platform i have ever seen on a game (with story), close to GTAV. The fact you can mod an entire planet and coexist with the rest of the game is insane
Oblivion and FO3 will forever live in my heart as my favourite FPRPGs, never been so captured by the world and the play as those two. High adventure beyond compare.
I wish my standards were that low. Baldurs Gate 3, Pillars of Eternity, Witcher 3, Disco Elysium, Divinity, Dragon Age Origins, and New Vegas are actual good rpgs
@@marekkos3513 i didnt even reply to you. And Dragon Age, BG3, and New Vegas are nothing like reading a book. You could argue pillars or disco elysium is like that. But I assume two paragraph’s of text to read is like a book to the smooth brained😉 so to each their own
Like really ? Dialogue based perks mattered more in Outer Worlds than in here ! If you love illusion of choice enjoy yourself.. BG3 Proves perk based dialogue options to change scenarios of the whole fight like Cleric and Druid in religion and nature respectively.
@@SpadeApeironhmmmm? Persuasion/Intimidation perks completely change how you proceed with a mission in many instances. It’s the difference between needing to go in guns blazing vs non-confrontationally resolving a situation in this game. What “illusion” are you talking about?
Those are your actually Skills ~ Never have i ever got any bonus for choose my Character creator perks ( Space scoundrel, Cyber runner Etc )@@DESX312 And the three perks you choose after barely account in game. Has it ever occurred to you how many things actually would matter than Simply Persuasion/Intimidation ? "illusion" is how little things change while giving you 5 dialogue options.. ( which are without persuasion/intimidation ) it always loops top whichever is 1st option. My character origins never mattered at all. while in BG3 everything you do matters like how consequences should.. there's always 3rd 4th way of doing skills than simply persuasion/intimidation ( which are skills not perks ) Skills are coded to matter. Perks are chosen by the player to role play.
My wish for Starfield is that they (Bethesda or modders) add SOME reason to explore. Right now the landing zones and outposts just feel like a waste of time, when all the quests are in hand crafted locations and tell you exactly where to go.
Man Morrowind's immersion was next level. The way you really lived in that game was unmatched. The music is so damn memorable too, especially that Cliff Racer theme 😂
Also, YES, the music is Morrowind is absolutely iconic. To this day, I can hum all of the themes off the top of my head. Meanwhile, I honestly can't remember any of the music from Oblivion or Skyrim, other than the main theme, which is just Pirates of the Caribbean. Easily one of the best parts of the game and I don't see it mentioned often enough when people talk about Morrowind.
Oblivion was my first open world game, it has such a special place in my heart. The adventure, discovery, and exploration is unforgettable! I still love the magic brush painting quest, I remember my mind being blown away when I went into the painting
I remember gushing about the game with my coworkers , then going home and playing it as much as I could. It felt like you could do anything at the time.
Morrowind is by far my favorite in the portfolio. It has its flaws and they aren't small ones but the world it builds and the immersion it offers is 2nd to none for me.
Starfield feels like an amazing 8.5x11 painting on a 25.5x33 canvas. The game is so good, but there is much more room to expand and add content as the game goes on.
Oblivion was my first ever open world game, got randomly gifted it for Christmas and thought the starting heal spell was my only source of light and couldn’t get out of the sewer. Went back a couple weeks later and it’s now my all time favorite game, it holds up extremely well just played it recently and put another 70 hours in. Starfield feels promising so far, I really enjoyed the faction quest line I did and while I’m not too bothered by the whole loading screen map thing to travel, I’m more bothered by the procedural worlds REALLY feeling procedural and I worry I won’t be able to explore as much like I could in other titles.
There's more to Starfield than just the procedural planets. Most of the exploration should be done in the handcrafted areas and cities, which are about as big as something like Skyrim or Oblivion. That's the problem with a lot of people that bounce off of Starfield after playing like 2 hours of the game; they think that the only thing to do in the game is explore empty planets when that isn't the case.
I'm half with you. I reeeeally want them to add more stuff to the procedurally generated locations, like NPCs, random quests and most importantly mini stories told through notes and terminals logs! I'm almost certain they'll add that in eventually though. With that said, there are a ton of handcrafted places to land on most planets and moons. If they add 5 letters that tell a story per every other procedurally generated location, I'd be thrilled. They'd be so easy to make too.
I feel like with updates / mods there could be more things that could happen as a result of custom systems that could shake things up. I hope DLCs that add more content could add to the pool of resources the proc gen can take from and give us some pleasant surprises as a result when exploring. Also mods are coming next year so Shattered Space could indicate where BGS is heading so modders can decide what they want to add/change after everything is said and done.
YES! So happy to hearing Oblivion getting some love. This game was my first introduction to Elder Scrolls, my brother brought home his Xbox 360 from college and was playing it, then handed the controller to me, and my mind was fricken blown. I have a playlist of Oblivion over-world music that I listen to whenever I’m feeling stressed, and like you said, the setting just hit perfect for where I was at in life. This was also the game that simultaneously first introduced me to Xbox, and I immediately went out and bought a used Xbox 360 for my own.
Hand up for oblivion! The weapons were so much cooler. And the guild quests, are amazing. Big up man not enough people supporting that game! Hey and, also big respect for the legacy of kain love over the years, I'm flying the flag with you mate!
Preach, still think Oblivion the best TES game, even if playing today vanilla. Granted I missed the Morrowind train so I won't argue if someone claims it's better than Skyrim, probably is but it's age is really really showing now. Still, TES 3/4/5, hell of a trilogy. Shame that TES 6 seems doomed to be meh. Bethesda that built 3/4/5 died by 2016. Now it's just a corpse propped up by Microsoft Money and Todd Howard lies.
Oblivion could have been a great game IMO, bit the level scaling was horrendous. You could run the main quest line and beat the game by level 8. Hate level scaling with a passion, but sometimes it can be done ok.
Honestly Starfield is everything I didn’t know I wanted. 100 hours in and I love it. I really hope they do a bunch of story expansions involving the characters of Constellation, the UC and the Freestar.
Did you like oblivion, fallout 3, and skyrim? I LOVED those games and starfield is just so boring to me. Get a quest, Menu screen, press L, fast travel. talk to someone, menu screen, press L, fast travel
what else is there to do 100 hours in, I have completed all the story lines and new game+ twice. I would like more combat tbh, is there anywhere you would recommend
@@DrDinoNuggies Yeah ikr poor me only 100 hours game time from game I got with $10 gamepass subscription. At least many mods will soon start popping out and future dlc to keep us busy.
I think a lot of people discovered The Elder Scrolls with Skyrim. For those people, trying to go back and play Oblivion or Morrowind is tough. But for those of us who were onboard earlier (I started with Morrowind and bought a PS3 to play Oblivion), Skyrim has a few misses. I also love Fallout 3, and enjoy it more than NV. Blasphemy, I know.
@@medalgearsalad1419 In my case it is the same. I got so addicted with FO3 that i finished it in a matter of days. A friend lent me it. Damn, it was the time you still had games in DVDs you could lend to your friends. Anyway, later i bought FO3 NV and never finished it. I think it was a matter of being burned out perhaps. I wouldnt know to tell you why FO3 hooked me up until the end but the other one did not.
@@Trikipum Yeah, Fallout 3 was revolutionary to me. My friends and I hyped it up as post-apocalyptic Oblivion, bought it day 1, and it absolutely delivered in our eyes. Walking out of Vault 101 for the first time blew my mind. I played New Vegas much later after release, took some great steps forward in terms of RPG and mechanics, but it didn't grab me the way Fallout 3 did.
@@michaelking4359i played new vegas when it first came out did not like it. Played it agian inn 2021 and loved it. Also played 3 for the first time and its now one of my favorite games of all time gave the feeling i got playing Kingdom come, RDR2 and Witcher 3 which was being fully immersed in a world.
you're description of how you feel about Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3, and Skyrim is spot on for me. Exactly my experience. I think the reason Skyrim didn't hit for me is that it felt so vanilla and "normal" compared to the previous games. Morrowind had silt striders, netch, houses in trees, houses in sand, every city felt so unique and otherwordly. And with each subsequent release, the amount of mystique and magic just seemed to decrease until Skyrim, which basically felt like Norway with Dragons. It felt less like high fantasy and more like medieval fantasy or Arthurian fantasy.
I think sometimes when you’re starting a very lore heavy universe youve gotta go slow at first. Fallout 3 had a slow start because it was introducing alot of new people to it
I've played 20 hours and I feel like the systems and the side stories and main campaign are just kicking off. It's definitely a slow burn but I'm excited to see where Starfield goes.
I'm already at about 50 hours and yeah, you aren't kidding. I finally spent a whole evening building my dream ship once I got the higher level parts unlocked, still have yet to touch outpost building. I've done probably more than half of the main story (by my guess, not 100% sure) and two of the factions, right now I'm just running around doing as many random side quests as I can and they're all super interesting. Still feel like I'm barely scratching the surface.
I'm about 75 hours in and finally completed the major faction stuff, just started in outposts, still have a few missions to complete on the main story.
I’m really letting it unfold slowly. A bit more than 40 hours in, I still haven’t finished a whole faction quest line, feel like I’m just scratching the surface of the main quest, customized a ship or two (barely), and haven’t even touched outpost building. I just keep finding random things that hold my attention. I know it’s a completely different type of game, but it’s doing the same thing as Breath of the Wild did: Send you in a vague direction, show you something interesting in the distance that distracts you, and give you something interesting and lore-filled along the way. I find myself several hours into a play session and I’ve completely forgotten about the quest I was doing, because I’m infiltrating some huge outpost connected to a giant underground area that I didn’t know was there. I’m sure the experience will vary because of the procedural generation, but dang it all if it isn’t working PERFECTLY for me right now. I’m obsessed. For anyone who isn’t gonna get hung up on the fact that it’s not No Man’s Sky, I highly recommend it.
@@roseforyoubabeI’ve played PlayStation for 10 years… I have never been hooked like starfield. Even BG3 didn’t give me a sense of amazement like starfield. It’s immensely flawed but it’s so great. No PlayStation game has made me think that lmao
I personally also hooked on starfield more than BG3. BG3 is great, but I just want a casual RPG after a day of work and get lost in a sandbox space rpg. BG3 is just too taxing for me with the various skills and spells and whatsnot after a while. Guess I simply just old and treat gaming more like watching a movie, which is exactly what I'm getting with starfield.
Oblivion is my favorite as well. And yeah, it probably is more nostalgia, but that was one of the best open-world experiences I ever had up to that point. I absolutely loved it. I am really enjoying Starfield as well. I can see myself spending years playing around in the world despite all its flaws.
Relative to the era it was released in, yeah I think Oblivion is IMO the best game of all time. Skyrim was great, Morowind and FO3, but they all felt apt for their time of release. Oblivion felt like it really raised the bar in... 2006... Wtf 2006? damn time flies.
My first Bethesda game and it blew me away. It's a 10/10 for me. I liked it so much I bought the Skyrim Anniversary edition plus downloaded Oblivion and Morrowind cause I want to experience more of that Bethesda magic.
I wish I could play those games for the first time again. Even though I never did much with magic every time I start up a new character I usually lose interest around level 15.
Awesome to see starfield making more people into bethesda fans. Excited for you to discover more, especially Skyrim since it’s my personal favorite bgs game and my favorite game of all time probably
I was so with you at the beginning my man. Oblivion will always hold a special place in my heart. But I can’t get behind your Skyrim placement 😮😮😮 that’s wild
Fallout 3 introduced me into the series.. I loved fallout 4 & Fallout NV also... Sci Fi and space settings really interest me and I've been loving Starfield despite it's flaws.. I've been kinda addicted to it tbh.. 😅
Oblivion is nostalgia for me too. The groups were well fleshed out. The story was interesting and had more impact. Being a vampire with night vision was chef kiss.
Having paid to play it 5 days early and having played it everyday since I can say I rerally like it. Despite the weird cloud syncing issue when I switched between my PC and Xbox it very stable for a Bethesda Release. I was really happy how little it holds your hand. Reminds me of Morrow wind
As a fan of old Bethesda I really wanted more from this game as everyone else on the internet has pointed out. I could see how making a Sci fi game with an insanely vast universe and not even adding the simplest of Sci fi tropes like adding aliens or even space travel is very underwhelming. I think they had so much potential and fell extremely short. But what I like about it is that it's not trying to be the next big thing, just trying to be it's own thing
Sci-fi is definitely my favorite backdrop/setting, and ive always loved playing Elder Scrolls and Fallout. I can already tell that im going to be playing Starfield for longer than I've sunk into games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 combined.
My Intro to Fallout was Fallout, the first two games were amazing. You could build yourself a car in the second game, if you could find the parts that is.
As a dad that works full time, I love starfield cuz I can learn about the worlds a bit and do some missions at the end of my day!! Im really into it like I was with skyrim and oblivion!! Its not as good but it's hella fun still
Did you ever play the Elder Scrolls games pre-Morrowind? I still replay them every once in a while, I especially love Redguard and I absolutely love that they’re all available via Game Pass on PC, same with all of the first Fallout games. There’s just something about them, even though they look more than outdated by today’s standards, that I’ll always enjoy. Elder Scrolls in general is my favourite gaming franchise and Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim are my favourite games of all time. There’s just something about Elder Scrolls that’s grabbed me since I was a kid.
I missed Morrowind cause I was a hardcore MMO player at the time but I did catch Skyrim and I gotta say it was the same. So immersive and the depth was like living in an alternate world and it really captivated me. I'd like to feel that way about a game again someday.
These are the best Bethesda has done. Totally amazing. I thought the game trulty hooks you when you start some of the factions. It feels completely different game when you get invested in those. It saved this game for me.
Bethesda games have always had a lot of defects but in the end they are so goddamn fun, and thats what it matters. It seems like people dont really like videogames more, they just like to talk about them
@@Emma_Z1 "it seems like people don't like video games anymore, they just like to talk about them" truer worda have never been spoken. People nowadays like rage bait regarding video games more than actually playing games
@@Sevren_ Yes Morrowind was truly amazing. You got totally lost in that game. I still get some of the same fiilings with Starfield. I really like this game a lot, over 40hs in a week or so, thats a sign of a very good game.
Fallout 3 is my all time favorite Bethesda Game. I keep going back to it every few years and binge it. The rpg elements, the setting, and gameplay give me nostalgia of simpler times.
Never played Morrowind and Oblivion, and Fallout 3 was my first Bethesda game, which I loved. It just felt special in so many ways. Discovering and exploring that world, which was familiar yet so different, was just magical.
I feel sorry that you've never played any good games if you think Fallout 3 is 'special'. Mid game at best, Fallout New Vegas and Fallout 2 are just better games. At least you'll never be disappointed.
Starfield is a good sandbox for them to expand on, and this also makes it great for mods. I'm sure we'll see Warhammer, Star wars, the Expanse and other being modded into this game.
There are a few things in Starfield I don't like, but man, I can't get enough of fighting, looting and doing side quests. It is so much fun for me! And I still can't wrap my head around how people act when someone likes something they do not😕
Most the people who don’t like it just simply don’t know what the game actually offers and so they misrepresent it or they are just going along with he hottest shit opinion of the moment to feel like they are a part of something
I think oblivion is the perfect mix of morrowind and Skyrim. I think morrowind is more in depth and Skyrim is super casual. But let’s be real the npc’s on oblivion are just as bad as the ones in starfield
Same. I wish I had as good of an experience going back to it as Jake did. Downloading the Shivering isles was the reason I signed up for Xbox live, but Bethesda RPGs don't age that well to me.
Once you start playing the sidequests and factions, the lore in Starfield ia pretty solid. I could easily see them adding in a few alien species in Starfield 2 in Mass Effect style. Its exciting to see where they might take it
See, the sad thing I noticed now is that despite Skyrim being one of my favorite games ever, I'll probably never be able to play vanilla Skyrim again after Starfield. Starfield has truly shined a light on how dated both Skyrim and Fallout 4 really are now. End of an era i guess 🙁
I've clocked in way more than 100 hours already and I am completely head over heels with this game. Can't remember the last time I felt like this. At age of almost 40 ( quiet.. ) I feel like, excited about this feeling with a video game cause I haven't felt that in a long ass time. Most games I was hyped about the past whole decade or so I felt let down by the end of the day. Not living up to expectations. This game just clicks in almost every way. Haven't lost my sleep about a game willingly and have to work with eyes swollen in so long that even that makes me excited to experience again! Crazy stuff.
lol, same boat, same age. last game i felt like this with was back in my kiddy days with Star Wars KOTR, absolute classic and find this quite similar but in a different sci-fi setting of course.
Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game and it was fantastic! The missions where you're in Oblivion and it was like you're in hell was so cool I loved it
It's weird - I've had almost exactly the same feelings, thoughts and experiences about Oblivion and Skyrim. I think it may have had a lot to do with the colour palette, the overall aesthetics, and the time of release. Oblivion was so revolutionary when it came out. My friends and I were really hyped to have a real HQ graphics (at the time) open world to go explore in. Skyrim feels like it looks a bit duller, and also didn't invent something new as much as Oblivion did. However, we do disagree on the Fallout games. I think the Fallout games have been just a little bit more interesting and out there for me than the Elder Scrolls games have.
One thing Starfield really lacks is deep, complex and meaningful world-building, unlike The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Starfield feels familiar in a mundane way, and I think that hurts it a lot as a Bethesda game.
I don't know. There's the reason Earth is dead, Sol being a backwater that no one wants to be posted at, and the fact that Charles Dickens books are the most common now because everyone thought he was the author most needing preservation, so they stuffed ships full of his books when evacuating. So, many other earth books were lost or are incredibly rare. The lore is far deeper than I think most give credit.
@obyone878 Dont get me wrong! The lore is there, but it can't hold itself up when compared to how deep and rich the world of Fallout and Elder Scrolls are. For example with Elder Scrolls, I would spend hours just digging through the history of various races, political figures like Tiber Septim, and each of the gods themselves. While I am enjoying the lore of Starfield, it doesn't feel the same.
@@Kyyndle I mean, if you don't want a new IP, that's fair, but something new is it's own worth. One cannot physically start something out with the same amount of lore as something decades old.
@roboc8369 My car has a 20 year old modified engine and it just works. Just like Bethesda games. My car and Starfield makes me happy. So your quality of taste don't have any value here. please tell me another open world, space opera, rpg, fps, that exist.
I have pretty much the same experience with Bethesda games, Morrowind GotY on Xbox was my intro to the series as well, and I think my rankings are the same as yours seeing as I also have a preference towards TES over Fallout. The only difference would be I would have to consider Oblivion and Morrowind dead tied for first. As far as the other TES games, I'd put ESO between Starfield and Skyrim (closer to Starfield than Skyrim, the same "tier" I suppose), Daggerfall right between FO4 and 76, and Arena at the very bottom.
In terms of a game developed by Bethesda Games Studio, this is my first game of theirs. I’ve tried Skyrim and I’ve tried Fallout 4. Fallout New Vegas is top tier but that’s Obsidian. As for Starfield? Fantastic game. I’m loving it so much
@@iamcll TRIED. I played Skyrim for like 30 minutes and Fallout 4 for an hour. That’s about it. It’s like watching 10 minutes of Lord of The Rings and saying you’ve seen the trilogy
Oblivion is my favourite Bethesda game also and I only played it for the first time in 2021. I felt like the dialogue systems and RPG mechanics were way deeper than what we had in Skyrim and I liked how the quests required you to think more rather than relying on quest markers
only about 15 hours in and i have to say, it is quickly becoming my favourite bethesda title. Ive only played Skyrim and fallout NV & 4 tho, but i feel like Bethesda really showed us their capabilities with this one and with creation engine 2, i cant wait to see what they do next
I am at 55 hrs, and it feels like I have barely started the game as my mission board is chocka and I am aware of many places I have not been to yet. I am no Bethesda fanboy, but yea despite some misleading advertising they have done well.
Honestly, I thought the storylines were compelling and the gameplay loop might be the only one that keeps playing my same play through over and over again. The combat has a lot of depth and I have found my self switching play styles a lot. I understand some people’s frustration with space exploration, but I think if you had no expectations and went into this game you would have loved it ten times more than if you had these preconceived notions of what it was going to be like. I thought it was extremely cool how many dialogue options opened up once you joined all the factions and became starborn. Already it has changed my second play through like crazy and from what I’m hearing it will continue to change it in different ways many play through a later. The dialogue actually has some weight behind it as well the ryujin storyline for instance had my choices causing very different results because I decided to be evil and it had a tangible effect on the storyline in ways that I feel like is an improvement from previous Bethesda games. There is enough variety that I feel like I got more than my moneys worth and I would say it’s an amazing game. I also felt the side quest, much like you have said in your review, have a far more unique twist that I personally have loved and haven’t gotten bored of as quickly. Even with the dialogue quest where you talk to person A, then go back to person B etc. have been far more interesting due to the overall options for dialogue in general being more interesting. Overall I’m thrilled with it and I can only imagine what they do with dlc and mods are going to make my experience even better
Anyway, I was thinking of all the little things they could add to starfield, like imagine you find find a ship floating in space, giving off creepy vibes, so you dock with it, and as you get on board, boom, mini survival horror mission, deadspace side mission...
Yes I've been thinking about this a lot - infested space hulks. Both random spawns and radiant salvage missions. All but guarantee someone will make it.
You can say modders will save starfield but when it requires mods to make the game good or playable thats not good mods should be dlc or dessert not the main dish
I really like the game, even from the jump I found it super interesting and I don't think games should be punished for need a few hours of coaxing you into the world. I see a lot of people where "if it takes 3-5 hours to get into the game it's not a good game" I couldn't disagree more. I had to start the witcher 3 like 5 times because it just starts off so slow, but once I grinded through it it's one of my top 5 of all time. So I do think that the beginning does limit you a bit I don't think anyone on the fence because of that should dismiss it. I'm having a ton of fun just exploring and stuff. 50 hours in and I haven't even gotten close to finishing the story yet. I'm just doin all kinds of things cuz it's fun.
Totally agree. I also don't really understand since their previous games are also pretty slow burns to start. Some initial excitement during the "tutorial" phase but they're pretty slow after for a good bit. I don't think the pirate attack, space fight and then Krete base clearing is "slower" than any of their other games
There are games out there to scratch almost any gaming itch. For me Starfield is one of those games. I love it, and can’t wait to dive in again tonight. The gradual ramp up is working for me, as my character progresses into the story and out into the universe, while I, playing the game, gets more confident in the game mechanics and more curious about the missions, worlds and stories revealed. And I AM TAKING ALL THE SANDWICHES!
So far, I love it. Starfield is one of those games where, there’s always one more thing I wanna do before finally going to bed way to late. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. I find there’s a lot of times where it just looks flat, and half baked. Other times I’m like woah, look at that moon. However the story, and getting to know the characters, getting to know my own character is so fun and is far more important than any graphical complaint.
The problem with Starfield is the absolute lack of depth in the game world. After about 20 hours, you have pretty much seen everything there is outside of the story. It doesn't matter how much landmass/worlds there are, if "Abandoned Science Outpost" is the same on 72 different planets... down to the last synthfoam container.
@@jong2359 Honestly I agree eually to both comments, yours is the one I fear is my reaction to the game as well...I am somehat dissapointed that I feel like every planet is gonna be the same as the last in more ways than not. I think they should of stuck more to like a handful of planets and solar systems and have you explore and find new things on one planet at a time with an option to go back if you want (like in KOTOR). This whole procedural generation stuff is neat for sure, but kinda does ruin the emersion I've noticed
I am enjoying Starfield a lot. Talking about my most loved bethesda game, I think it has to be Morrowind. The release of that game shocked me, the graphics at the time. I have very fond memories.
Yeah same. I remember printing a screenshot of my character cresting a hill just as a sandstorm was ending and the sun was setting, tacked it up on my wall where it stayed for years. I was such a nerd.
I dig this. Considering the big picture outside of any hype. Fallout 3 is prolly my fav but that bc I watched I am Legend around the time it released so it was a whole vibe
With you Jake. Oblivion probably has to be my all time favorite Bethesda game too. I still have big love for the other classics up to Skyrim, but Oblivion was just so memorable and that DLC was amazing
I'm 100 hours in and still really enjoying it. My biggest complaints are just the crashes and bugs. I had a ship glitch underneath the landing pad to the point where I can't use it anymore, and that was pretty frustrating. The crashing seems to get progressively worse as you get further into the game. It's crashing 1 or two times an hour on me now, and always an an inopportune time.
I was doing a stealth mission for riujuin industries and guards just kept randomly phasing trough the ground in front of me or they would teleport into the ducts I was crawling trough. After getting spotted by bugged guards a bunch of times I just gave up and killed everyone in the building XD
I didn't have a single crash in my 90 hours, but I did have my ship disappear from the launch pad one time, but admittedly I alt-f4'd during an autosave the performance is lackluster but I can enjoy the game regardless because I have a beefy PC.
I guarantee we are going to get a myriad of custom voiced robot followers. They won't need to be voiced by people typically, and could make for some rockstar followers.@@James-ih2lb
@@BaronRosaThe planets are empty because Bethesda designed them to be empty. And even then, they're still not devoid of content. But most of the meat is in the settlements
I'd personally put Morrowind first, but otherwise, this is a completely based ranking. Jake really surprised me with this one. Man, I'm so curious about Starfield, but just not 70 dollars curious. I went way over budget buying games last month so I keep needing to actively convince myself not to buy Starfield for now. I honestly haven't cared for the last few Bethesda games, FO3, Skyrim, or FO4, and Starfield looks a lot like FO4 but in space with lots of fast traveling in place of exploration. For me, I think the time spent walking between points of interest of places for quests on the map was a good pacing tool, and the idea of just fast traveling to locations instead sounds kind of awful. I don't know. I'm conflicted, because I am super curious to check it out, but also know I probably won't love it, and it's so pricy. This is why I mostly play indies.
I hate the success of Starfield because of what it represents. Every game since Morrowind has gotten worse imo. Yet the more they strip out systems and dumb the games down for the masses the more they sell. It leads to the next game being even MORE streamlined and idiot proof. It irks me because NO ONE is gonna make a game like Morrowind ever again if Bethesda doesn't do it. The games I used to love are a thing of the past and the only people who can make them want to do everything they can to distance themselves from that old game design. Everyone who praises Starfield doesn't realize what they're doing. Their admiration is pushing the only company capable of creating a true first person RPG further away doing so. Every time you buy a new Bethesda game you're taking the company away from the people who made them successful in the first place and telling them it's okay to make this garbage. I wish they'd just fail and go back to their roots. I wish gamers weren't so brain dead that they enjoy digital junk food like Starfield or Fallout 4. I just want a Bethesda RPG instead of a Bethesda open world adventure game.
Starfield feels tiny to me, I know it's way way way bigger on paper, but feel wise everywhere I go feels small. I'm shocked as a hardcore ES and Fallout player I just can't get into yet.
the UC Vanguard "hall of info dump" was awesome. really cool to see how things played out with the different factions. and it's funny because it's exactly how a museum like that would be set up
It's like a 7 to a 7.5 for me. So far the factions feel a lot stronger compared to the main story. I don't feel like the world building is as good as their older titles, Fallout & TES grabbed me way more.
Great thoughts! I am loving the game so far and I'm just grateful for video games to be honest! I'm also happy to be able to enjoy things. I feel like some people are so wired to hate on everything in the name of clickbait or having to give something a score, that it ultimately prevents them from going into something with the right mindset. At the end of the day, they are the ones missing out.
The thing is from people with your perspective there's no such thing as a bad game. But a lot of gamer's have standards for their games, and are upset when a company is given so much time and money to only produce half of what they're capable of...and then have the nerve to charge you full price...it's a little irritating, If that wasn't enough, there's also fanboys of said companies who enable this lazy money-hungry behavior and they don't care cause they'll take anything but the techinal gamer's are forced to downgrade because they want to appeal to the masses. it's not a always a hater-being negative thing.
@@justindaniels411What exactly are you so upset about though with Starfield? I had zero expectations of this game and only heard of it a few weeks ago so I’m just having a good time with it.
@@justindaniels411why are you putting words in their mouth, going into games with a positive mindset and not looking for problems to nit pick doesn’t mean you can’t think a game is bad…. And Starfield is FULL of handcrafted awesome content, to say it’s lazy just shows you haven’t played it, you don’t know what’s in the game, clearly.
I was 10 when Oblivion came out and that's what got me into BGS games. Although an oddity in art style and with the limitations of the Xbox 360-era, I also have the nostalgia goggles on when I go back and think about it. 100% would probably rank these the same
If I remember correctly the starfield premium edition bundles states it comes with the “first” expansion which would imply they’re planning more than one. Looking forward to seeing where this game goes as someone hugely intrigued by space
My biggest issue with Starfield is limiting the npcs to humans. Would've made the game so much better with a diverse group of species. Could've opened the door to so much more. That's what made games like fallout and elders scrolls feel special
There are a lot of sci-fi games out there that are filled with humanoid aliens, IMO it's refreshing to not have Mass Effect-levels of humanoid aliens and stuff.
It's your opinion, and you're certainly welcome to it, but I think it would have ruined the entire game. It's not so far in the future that we'd just have multiple intelligent alien races walking around among us. If you know anything about human history, you'd know there will be wildly different ideas from many areas of the populace on these "aliens". Look at District 9
I have some major issues with Starfield, but the modding potential with it is insane. I'm really looking forward to the CK coming out and major mods dropping soon after.
I have very fond memories putting hundreds of hours into Oblivion. It was also the start of was has turned out to be thousands of hours in Creation Engine based games, appreciating each improvement, yet slowly becoming exceedingly frustrated and less tolerant with it's inherent flaws. I'm certainly not alone here. Despite knowing Starfield was still Creation based, I held some secret expectations that there'd be a lot of new improvements that would wow me, or the ideas they were 'inspired by' would actually be implemented better. That was quickly shattered the first time you flew a ship, the first time you mined ,the first time you landed on a random planet or when you encountered your first taste of how woeful the AI combat is. Add in performance issues and your first impressions after ~ 20 hours is resounding disappointment. Then you start modding and realise here you go again - another few hundred hours will be sunk initially until dusting the game off again in a few years with it's first GOTYE/GOAT/PS6 Re-Master. Check out all the matured/gameplay balance mods and do it all again, all the while hating the Creation Engine all over again.
I can’t stop playing the game and I know I’m going to go through it like 6 times focusing on different factions. I’m really excited for the expansions and once Modders run wild with the game the potential with these vast open planets is mind boggling. This game has more potential to live forever than anything I’ve seen. I’d also love a Starfield 2 and all I ask for is Vehicles and True space exploration
Midfield doesn’t have 6 million players. 5.5 million of these people downloaded the game from Xbox Gamepass for free. There’s less than 1 million concurrent players total between console and PC. I wanted this game to be good, but it’s incredibly shallow.
Jake the game is amazing. I think there was unrealistic expectations for people who didn’t pay attention to the parameters they set. It’s fallout in space and it’s everything I could’ve ever wanted it to be while Waiting for It for years and years
@@mooyels9812 expectations as far as people thinking this game was gonna be a space simulator. It was never supposed to be. It’s fallout and space and I love it
I'm an Oblivion and F3 fanboy as well, and I'm missing the whole 'make your own story' feeling in Starfield. Being able to choose how you want to approach the game as a whole just isn't there in Starfield, it feels more restrictive like Fallout 4 when it comes to your own personal story. I cant see a difference between a trucker, a miner, a rogue, a bounty hunter, a pirate, there's just not enough distinction. You are who and what the game says you are, but then it doesn't fill that out with something significant. The world is a great place to build on but it's all so binary.
Thank you for your review Jake! So, for me Starfield is very good! The learning curve to learn the spaceship is a little bit tricky, but once learned everything is very nice! Long life Starfield!! :)
Morrowind was my first Bethesda game, way back on my Xbox. Interestingly, I never beat the game until playing it through the Morroblivion mod. But I still sank hundreds of hours into Morrowind with exploring and starting over with new builds. My hype for Oblivion was off the charts, and I felt it perfected what Morrowind missed on, which was the combat lol. And then, yeah, Skyrim left me a little underwhelmed... as a mage player the removal of custom spells in Skyrim is something I've never really gotten over. Fallout 3 was great, but I'm definitely a fantasy and sci-fi genre person before anything like post-apocalyptic or cyberpunk. But I still played FO3 multiple times. And years later when I got into online forums I was shocked to see New Vegas preferred over 3. I really didn't enjoy New Vegas. I mean, I did... but I only played it once or twice and have no desire to go back to it. It's my lowest ranking of TES, FO, and SF games... with the caveat that I never actually tried FO76. Fallout 4 was fun, but the radiant missions felt a little too obvious/forced, but only comparing first playthroughs I'd put FO4 up there. Starfield is good. I can't accurately rank it, though, as I only have about 10-15 hours in it. But I do have some gripes. Mostly small things, but it's enough that it's adding up. Mostly having to do with shipbuilding issues and inventory management and UI stuff with lack of detailed info.
I'm with you. I liked Skyrim, but Oblivion was my absolutely favorite game of all time. I also completely agree that Skyrim didn't hit with me either. I played through the main storyline in a few days, and then never went back. Which is really funny because I [;ayed Oblvion for probably 2,000 hours and didn't do more than 2 Oblivion gates. I still have no idea how the story ends.
I’ve been playing it l, it’s been fun. But having played BG3 prior to it, I feel like it kind of ruined a few things for me. Like the dialogue, and the lack of player agency in certain situations, etc. but I am liking the combat and exploration a lot
I agree with you on Skyrim. Oblivion is my favorite BSG title and I think the reason is the fantasy vibe. Skyrim didn’t hit that fantasy itch for me because of the setting.
I'm loving the game so much It's everything I expected. Neon had amazing quests. Oblivion was my favorite game too. And Oblivion had amazing stories too and especially how you discovered stories. I love the game so much. I think you nailed it more than skyrim this feels like oblivion. I love bethesda games a lot and it's everything i expected. Role playing. I haven't even touched the main quest i go for 100s of hours role paying. So many factions.
i started off so disappointed because i bought the game to be a space explorer and to build bases and when i got to planet 30 with barely anything to do, i started the story and got REALLY into it. i actually may be addicted now lol
On the modding front, Starfield is the PERFECT "modding platform" for star trek, star wars, stargate, alien, and basically any other sci fi franchise. It's only a matter of time before we get Correlian Freighters or Klingon Birds of Prey, and I'm so here for it.
I can't hear you over the potential Warhammer mods.
Exactly my thoughts, this game is maybe the biggest modding playground for modders, so much potentials.
It is quite literally the biggest modding platform i have ever seen on a game (with story), close to GTAV. The fact you can mod an entire planet and coexist with the rest of the game is insane
Imagine some Gundam or outlaw star or cowboy bebop
I tell everyone it's not a perfect game but it will be just wait for all the mods
Oblivion and FO3 will forever live in my heart as my favourite FPRPGs, never been so captured by the world and the play as those two. High adventure beyond compare.
i dont want to set the world. on. fiiirreeeee

My wish for Starfield is that they (Bethesda or modders) add SOME reason to explore. Right now the landing zones and outposts just feel like a waste of time, when all the quests are in hand crafted locations and tell you exactly where to go.

Starfield feels like an amazing 8.5x11 painting on a 25.5x33 canvas. The game is so good, but there is much more room to expand and add content as the game goes on.
That's an amazing description
Couldn't have said it any better myself
Haha I did the same thing with the heal spell light source back in the day. I also went back to it and loved it
I'm half with you.
Same dude
I relate to this. I play through the OST often and give it a replay every year!

Hate level scaling with a passion, but sometimes it can be done ok.

you're description of how you feel about Morrowind, Oblivion, FO3, and Skyrim is spot on for me.

I'm honestly amazed by people who could say that.
I know it’s a completely different type of game, but it’s doing the same thing as Breath of the Wild did:
Send you in a vague direction, show you something interesting in the distance that distracts you, and give you something interesting and lore-filled along the way.

Yah! They can add something crazy and it will look like star citizens 😂
@@kamitorings in what way the game isnt polished?
There are a few things in Starfield I don't like, but man, I can't get enough of fighting, looting and doing side quests. It is so much fun for me!
And I still can't wrap my head around how people act when someone likes something they do not😕
Most the people who don’t like it just simply don’t know what the game actually offers and so they misrepresent it or they are just going along with he hottest shit opinion of the moment to feel like they are a part of something
Oblivion was always my #1 Bethesda title.
same
I think oblivion is the perfect mix of morrowind and Skyrim.
Skooma needs more
Maybe because we came up with the great Xbox 360. it’s blind nostalgia
Once you start playing the sidequests and factions, the lore in Starfield ia pretty solid. I could easily see them adding in a few alien species in Starfield 2 in Mass Effect style. Its exciting to see where they might take it
@@400thekiller233Same Its really silly doing the whole Star wars mass effect Thing for a game like This which is more grounded.
Already met a lot of aliens in Starfield. None intelligent but I'm good with that. Kinda sets the universe apart from other Sci-fi.
Who plays vanilla skyrim in the first place?😂 I haven’t played vanilla skyrim since Christmas 2011 on my old ps3
Lol and even Starfield isn’t really completely “up-to-date” with current standards.
@@seeseees2798 I do a vanilla run from time to time, specifically during Christmas lol. I dunno, just gives me that nostalgic feeling.
@@MrM2309-w3wkotor was beautiful game to play. Specially if you're a star wars fan. I replayed and beat that game on Android phone.
Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game and it was fantastic! The missions where you're in Oblivion and it was like you're in hell was so cool I loved it
I can't disagree. That Mummy movie was perfect entertainment.
@@Kyyndle To be fair, Elder Scrolls and Fallout have had decades to build their lore. Nothing is just going to start out with the same level.
@obyone878 Oh for sure, but as consumers, we're still paying the same amount as ever. It's quite the downgrade.
@@Kyyndle I mean, if you don't want a new IP, that's fair, but something new is it's own worth. One cannot physically start something out with the same amount of lore as something decades old.

As for potential starfield imo definitely could (And most likely) will surpass the other games through mods and potential dlc.
In terms of a game developed by Bethesda Games Studio, this is my first game of theirs. I’ve tried Skyrim and I’ve tried Fallout 4. Fallout New Vegas is top tier but that’s Obsidian. As for Starfield? Fantastic game. I’m loving it so much
"Skyrim and I’ve tried Fallout 4." both are Bethesda games studio games so that means starfield isn't your first mate.

I wouldn't be surprised if there is abandoned space ship like that somewhere
I mean Mass Effect literally did that over a decade ago
RDR2 has a slow start, but everyone praises it.

Me too! And having fun is one of the best things about a good game.
I didn't have a single crash in my 90 hours, but I did have my ship disappear from the launch pad one time, but admittedly I alt-f4'd during an autosave
the performance is lackluster but I can enjoy the game regardless because I have a beefy PC.
This game is gonna get all the love it deserves sooner as people discover more stuff
What if there isn’t more stuff. The planets are empty
@@BaronRosa I've actually yet to find a totally empty planet and I'm about to crack 100 hours lol

@@BaronRosaThe planets are empty because Bethesda designed them to be empty. And even then, they're still not devoid of content. But most of the meat is in the settlements
No hate against the nostalgia and subjective opinion, but there’s just no way Morrowind holds up to Skyrim
Oblivion was my first free roam rpg game. It was an AMAZING experience.
This is the biggest issue, but you know..."YoUrE jUsT a HaTeR"
Starfield feels tiny to me, I know it's way way way bigger on paper, but feel wise everywhere I go feels small. I'm shocked as a hardcore ES and Fallout player I just can't get into yet.
The starfield lore they’ve done before with the colony war, terramorphs is super interesting and lots of potential
the UC Vanguard "hall of info dump" was awesome. really cool to see how things played out with the different factions. and it's funny because it's exactly how a museum like that would be set up
It's like a 7 to a 7.5 for me.

The faction quests are way better then the main story, it's not even close.
More Jake and more starfield, nice 👍

They should mod ES planet Nirn, or Fallout's Earth, into Starfields galaxy
Midfield doesn’t have 6 million players. 5.5 million of these people downloaded the game from Xbox Gamepass for free. There’s less than 1 million concurrent players total between console and PC. I wanted this game to be good, but it’s incredibly shallow.
I’m a big Bethesda fan but I’m having a hard time with this slow start when Bsldur’s Gate is sitting there waiting for me
Jake the game is amazing. I think there was unrealistic expectations for people who didn’t pay attention to the parameters they set. It’s fallout in space and it’s everything I could’ve ever wanted it to be while Waiting for It for years and years
these are very low expectations, Fallout 4 came out 8 years ago and you weren't expecting more?

I'm an Oblivion and F3 fanboy as well, and I'm missing the whole 'make your own story' feeling in Starfield. Being able to choose how you want to approach the game as a whole just isn't there in Starfield, it feels more restrictive like Fallout 4 when it comes to your own personal story. I cant see a difference between a trucker, a miner, a rogue, a bounty hunter, a pirate, there's just not enough distinction. You are who and what the game says you are, but then it doesn't fill that out with something significant. The world is a great place to build on but it's all so binary.
This game is awesome
Your ES journey has been the same as mine
Loving this game right now! My only other Bethesda game was Skyrim. So, this one is soooooo good.

Starfield is a good Bethesda game. But it’s not the EPIC adventure I was hoping for.
Starfield was a huge disappointment imo smh
Oblivion was the goat. But imo starfeild is their best game since then.

Weather or not Starfield has legs depends on the quality of cbbe mods to be perfectly honest.
