Fun piece of trivia. The bug where giants in skyrim project characters to the strathosphere was fixed by bethesda but the community asked them to put it back in and they complied.
Everyone has been tearing into bethesda and fallout 76 for a year now. I want to say that people are beating a dead horse, but the horse just keeps getting back up and kicking little girls in the teeth.
The thing that everyone is missing though is that the game is apparently popular. If it wasn't people wouldn't complain and the $100 subscription wouldn't work like it is. People can bitch all they want but as long as dummies keep playing the game Bethesda has the last laugh
There is a simple solutions to that. Bethesda fans need to stick to their guns and not buy Bethesda games. If you give them money, that dead horse will keep coming back to life. Also giving them money means it's okay for them to be this way and burn any good-will they had.
I mean it is true. Bethesda never been a great game company but they do have nice writters for the lore they put in their games. Modders do their job as bethesda got lazy after morrowind.
The lie that got me was when they said the nukes in Fallout 76 would “completely change the landscape”. All they did was cast a red hue over the area. Damn that pissed me off
The one that pissed me off was when they said you could talk to giants in Skyrim. I was so excited on 11/11/11 when i saw my first giant but he promptly sent me in to the stratosphere
Well, these people are ready to promise u everything to make u to a buy a game. Just look at Cyberpunk developers for example. Howmuch they promised how much they gave

this is even more paramount with starfield. the game comes out and its a total 6/10. when they said most ambitious game i was expecting some new tech like rockstars facial recognition. not just fallout 4 in space
It’s absolutely shocking that the developers of New Vegas don’t get any royalties for that game. It’s a masterpiece and they deserve it for all the effort they put on in such a short time.
Listening to the developers from Obsidian about their experience working on NV, it's more or less their fault. Bethesda was upfront to them about the dev time, and the Metacritic bonus was optional, but they tried anyway. They were just too cocky that they could get it running in time. They still made a better game than FO3 imo, but putting all the blame for "what could've been" on Bethesda isn't right in this case.

Also Valve: A horrible enviroment where the senior and select few members have all the power, there are a fair few articles about how shit they are to those in the bottom and more then a fair few skeletons in da closet.
I think the biggest weakness of Bethesda is the writing. The team who write the dialogue, quests etc have clearly never read a book. Fallout 3 has such bad writing it’s actually incredible
Fallout New Vegas was actually developed by Obsidian, that's why the writing was so much better, complex, and more dynamic in terms of player choice and dialogue consequences.
I could never play FNV for more than 15 minutes 'cause it felt like Oblivion with firearms. I played FO4 first and it was a nice experience, I wanted more. So I downloaded New Vegas again with textures and an ENB and finally got into it. After New Vegas I just can't enjoy FO4 story anymore because it feels so average and on rails. I tried FO3 as well and after spending a couple of hours modding it, I just stopped playing after like 2 hours because I was bored and I don't even know why.
@Anty Googl If people can grow smart enough to realize Bethesda is screwing them, and retain their consistency... Then all the more raving for them. I do agree that the upset people that STILL buy Bethesda after knowingly getting screwed over are massive hypocrites. Hypocrisy is one of the biggest forms of weakness, because it makes you exploitable. It makes you weak. It proves you can't think with the ever-dying uncommon sense that we're left with these days. Same goes for the people still going to watch the latest Star Wars films. What makes anyone think that they're going to make ANYTHING better for the next film? They've bastardized and ruined any direct canon left, and they just want them to continue? Eesh. This is why we're in the state we're in. Losers and children with their moms' credit cards and wealthy dunderbrains throwing cash at lackluster franchises because they love them. Nothing wrong with being a fanboy, but you gotta understand when your franchise needs your help. And the best way to help a franchise is to NOT support their projects when they are deliberately volatile. If they are truthful and provide well, then they're worth the money. Better to not waste the money when a company like Bethesda is willing to dox and harass their playerbase.
From what I know it started out as a bug with the physics engine calculating overkill values. Normally, the amount of knockback / force in a hit makes the target get pushed backward more depending on how big the overkill value was, that's just how the Havoc engine works. With giants their super high damage meant that it had huge amounts of overkill damage, hence sending units into the stratosphere. The devs thought it was bloody fuckin hilarious so they intentionally didn't tweak their damage to remove it.
To be fair that's true of most of Skyrim's bugs. The thing neither Bethesda nor decent chunks of the games press never really understood about Skyrim's success. It was never because it was a good game. The characters are bland, the quests are the definition of a mixed bag, the story is underwhelming at best, the world building is mediocre, and the combat is... a bethesda game... The thing is, because it was such a perfect balance of buggy insanity and a playable experience,it came across as this chaotic world where anything can happen. And that's both fun and exciting... The bugginess quite literally became a feature of the game, and the best one too! It isn't a good game but it is a fun one to play. It's also why when they followed the game design cues from Skyrim with Fallout 4 people were a lot less pleased. Cuz that game whilst yes still buggy, is less consistantly so, and it clashes a lot more with the post apocalyptic tone.
This is how I feel about Game Freak who got lucky with Pokemon. I'd love to see a better team take over and actually bring something new and refreshing to mainline pokemon games.
I'm 85% certain that if it had been Bethesda or EA that was responsible for the cut dex, absolutely no one would have been okay with it. The absolute ONLY reason that GameFreak was able to get away AT ALL is because...it's Pokemon.
@@lentilad Their recent game was pretty mediocre in my opinion. Little Town I think it was called? I just feel the franchise needs to be reinvented at this point. I might be in the minority, but the combat has become incredibly dull for me. Maybe it's because I started with red/blue and I'm 30 now, but I guess I just wanted Pokemon to grow up with me more than just a little bit? If that makes sense.
@@Jiub_SN Sadly never had the oppurtunity to play NV (NOT a Bethesda game technically). From all I have heard about it, I am not arguing on that score.
Trash the game engine all you want but the amazing thing is that Skyrim in its vanilla Xbox 360 state was still a decent looking game by todays standards even. Pretty much only matched by GTA V graphically for open world games in that generation. Then you have the Skyrim Remastered version with mods on PC. That game with mods is literally only matched by moded GTA V and by the vanilla PC Witcher 3. It's actually kind of terrible that the Witcher 3 (2015), Skyrim (2011), and GTA V (2013) are still the best looking games in 2020. It's kind of terrible when you start playing a game and look around only to have your first thought being "Well this game might be ok, but the graphics are so dated stock Skyrim looks better".

Bethesda has a much bigger problem post-Starfield. Starfield was not as buggy or broken as Fallout 76, even though it was still buggy. But it didn't really get any backlash for it. In fact, Starfield came and went. So much so that you could've missed its launch entirely. No one really cared at all. It wasn't like Skyrim or Fallout 3 or 4 where people called in sick for work, or skipped school to stay home and play it for hours on end. We've gotten to the point where no one cares about Bethesda's games anymore. They don't garner hype because people have been burned too many times. At least with 76 people still wanted it to be good, people still cared. Fallout, even at its worst, was still a unique world that engrossed millions of fans. Starfield was as generic as it could be. Devoid of any character, immersion, role playing, anything. It was painfully bland, in addition to being buggy and glitchy af. I have 0 hope for TES 6. When it finally comes out (likely not even this gen) I'm sure it will be even more stripped down with even fewer classes. Hell they'll probably remove dialogue options too. And somehow it'll still be glitchy as shit. But no one will be upset because no one was excited for it to begin with.
Bethesda isn’t trash, if you have games like morrowind oblivion and skyrim under your belt. Instead of being so negative why not be positive for a change. Maybe TES 6 will hopefully be great!

gotta say, though, Obsidian have kind of been the heroes of the cRPG industry that never get the credit. They're always there to show Triple A's how their IP's should be done, they employ the guys who made the classics that the Triple A's took from them, Obsidian has never gotten the credit of Bethesda or Bioware but they've one-upped them almost every time.

Look at them. They come to this place when they know they are not pure. Tenno use the keys, but they are mere trespassers. Only I, Vor, know the true power of the Void. I was cut in half, destroyed, but through it's Janus key, the Void called to me. It brought me here, and here, I was reborn. Behold the Tenno, come to scavenge and desecrate this sacred realm. My brothers, did I not tell of this day, did I not prophesize this moment? Now, I will stop them. Now, I am changed, reborn, through the energy of the Janus key, forever bound to the Void. We cannot blame these creatures. They are led by a false prophet, an imposter who knows not the secrets of the Void. Let it be known: If the Tenno want true salvation, they will lay down their arms and wait for the baptism of my Janus key. They will learn it's simple truth. It is time. I will teach these trespassers the redemptive power of my Janus key. The Tenno are lost, and they will resist. But I, Vor, will cleanse this place of their impurity.

As much as I have to agree, some things in Source 2 is no really Quake Engine related anymore. Yeah there's things like how light flickers and all but those are just things which dont need to be changed.

No, they weren't really lazy historically. They kept adding more stuff and weren't keeping up with the increased workloads being created for everything to work properly, but the level of detail to the new things they added has been pretty insane for the most part. It's just at the expense of polish, and losing a bunch of features you shouldn't have had to. I know some people who actually think some of the earlier RPGs were too complicated in terms of stats and stuff to keep track of, and I think they're wrong and you don't have to pay attention to that stuff to play their games, but it's a legitimate thing people thought, so the idea no one wanted streamlining is probably wrong, and they had to do work to redesign systems in that way as well (even if I don't agree with the ways in which they did this for the most part, even if I were to agree to them doing it). Also, the first Elder Scrolls game, Arena, is ridiculously buggy, and that was before Todd or Gamebryo, and Battlespire is probably still their least functional title. They actually showed improvement after those in basically every way. Bethesda has always had most of the issues associated with it now (I'd attribute the development of microtransactions more to Nexon, publisher of shitty Korean MMOs that are much more popular than you might expect than Bethesda however, and I'd also credit Valve, who I think was influenced into this practice by Nexon, but that's another topic), but the problems are worse than when they weren't as relevant of a company.

The only difference is that the script itself is more sophisticated and doesn’t just activates with one trigger but with a bunch of triggers or it just has several equally possible actions for the npc to do linked to one trigger. In the end npc is always controlled by the script!
I never thought of it that way. I think scripted means it's supposed to go down in one fixed manner. Like a scripted reality show or something. Being dynamic it can happen in several way which are seperately scripted ofcourse but as a whole it isn't.
HairySeagull Yeah, maybe you’re right and the “script” here means something like a “movie script” that is not supposed to react to the player’s actions and just plays out at some certain point of time in the game... The loading screens are just the tip of that mountain, though that is a huge problem. Ai is buggy, looks awful, talk over each other constantly and just irritating to be around. Graphics are years out of date. Digipicking was interesting for the first few hours then becomes a slog because its overtuned and takes too long + everything is locked. Way too many skills to put points into. Ship combat is the barest of bones it could possibly be. Guns are uninspired and just dice roll stats, even special ones, overall weapon variety is just poor outside of ballistic weapons. Money is basically useless outside of ship upgrades. Way too many ammo types. Shop keepers don't have enough money. Resource gathering is pointless when I can buy everything from vendors at extremely cheap prices. The main story is cliche and done many times before. It's missing features that games with studios of under 20 people pulled off years ago. The economy is complete garbage, how is a ship only selling for around 10% of what it's worth? Less than that if you found/stole one because you have to pay way too much to register it to sell it. There are so many reasons this game falls flat on it's face. I’ve been a stark Bethesda critic ever since the release of Skyrim, and here’s my personal take... I think Bethesda got too comfortable cutting corners. They knew that journalists and fans would defend the bugs and performance issues in their products, no matter how badly they were: Unbeatable quests, single digit frame rates, backwards flying unkillable dragons, 40 hour corrupted save files, and so on. How did consumers respond? “We can’t expect perfection from a game. A game this massive is bound to have some imperfections here and there.” And what else is Bethesda going to think other than “Hey! I can release a colossal mess and the people who bought it will give me good PR for free! Alright!” The fans did this to themselves. Bethesda pushed the limit to see how much fans are willing to put up with, and my only concern is seeing how long it took for consumers to realize that they were sitting in a pot of water being boiled.
Another factor is the modding community. Why pay millions to have actual people test your game across the years of development? When you can have complete strangers fix the problems for free? Fallout 76 is just proof that Bethesda is nothing without the modding community it is known well for.
@Vladimir Vladikov Yeah, I started with Oblivion, and I STILL don't understand how that game's gameplay is not criticized as being horrible as much as it should be. Yep. How the fuck are there TINY, few-man "companies" out there making large and functional games, and a company with hundreds of employees can't? I'm sure no-one here knows Unreal Tournament, but it was made as an ad for the Unreal engine, by the same originally tiny company who made Fortnite. These guys obviously since fucked off all of us, their fans.. But hey, at least the Unreal games were never meant to be large serious games, but just a showcase for how awesome the engine is, and they were 100% made for mods, Killing Floor was a mod for ut2004 originally! But how could their tiny game advertising their engine be better than 90% of anything released today?? Go pickup Unreal Tournament 2004, I'm sure it'll be a fw bucks, there are probably close to a million mods for it, and not weak ones either, some making the game into a COD like shooter, others into a story-driven game.
Being the "I told you so" person is both annoying and satisfying, but I really never understood why people were willing to give this guy a pass on so much of his bs
A truth no one seems to want to admit is that everyone in the game industry lies to get ahead, sometimes they do it unaware of what they are actually saying too. Like in the case of One particular game that had hyper inflated promises No Man's sky. But there was also games like Mortal kombat and how it was literally built to suck out quarters in arcades off the rumor you could tear people's heads out of their bodies and the creator watched as a kid tried to show this to people before the game was even officially released and told people "I have no idea what the kid is talking about" to try and get more quarters from him. There are countless examples through history like Peter and other people, Capcom executives and their hostile takeovers. Everything about this entire industry has been a bunch of BS that just gradually starts showing itself worse and worse.

@@cheesemoon6319 Both. Their engine is buggy cumbersome and outdated only because Bethesda and Todd do not give a damn about it. Any respectable and non-lying developer would and should be embarrassed in using this archaic engine in 2020.
Many devs spend a lot of time updating their engine while their game is still current... these guys don't update or change anything and just release new games on the same broken crap... that is amazing.
@@AdityaWaghmare The buggy engine, physics and scripting are outcome of their incompetence. Unreal Engine, IDTech are all archaic engines by the same standard Gamebryo is called archaic but they are brilliant engines today but have been updated for 25+years properly. You can thank Emil for that. His motto is "KISS" which means keep it simple stupid

Fallout New Vegas was actually developed by Obsidian, that's why the writing was so much better, complex, and more dynamic in terms of player choice and dialogue consequences.

Getting hit by a giant in Skyrim and flying into the air is not a bug. Its a feature. A fun one at that
From what I know it started out as a bug with the physics engine calculating overkill values.

My brothers, did I not tell of this day, did I not prophesize this moment? Now, I will stop them. Now, I am changed, reborn, through the energy of the Janus key, forever bound to the Void. Bathesda to sum up:
Their early bugs were cute
now they are just lazy af
They were lazy while developing Oblivion and Skyrim.
They are purely lazy. I can’t believe management played fallout 76 and decided yep it’s in a playable state, sell it.
everything was goofier at the time. Kinda fitted the theme
Thats what happens when you overlook mediocrity for too long. Undeserved 9.5s for years.

You know this phrase: “unscripted NPC” always felt awkward to me! I mean, those NPCs are still acting according to the script!

And here we are 3 years later and Starfield is a giant disappointment.
How? Only thing I see people complaining about is the amount of loading screens. Everything else is amazing about the game.
The loading screens are just the tip of that mountain, though that is a huge problem.
Performance, crashing, ship builder is half baked, missing loads of QOL features, starmap is also underbaked and missing key features like a lookup or save favorites for places. 3/5 factions are short and relatively uninteresting (for me).
I put in 85hrs into it, beat all factions and main story and it was just awful. I was so hyped for this game but it was a huge let down to me. @@ghost25killer
Nobody puts in 85 hours into a game and says its sh*t, you need some mental help if you dragged yourself for 85 hours into the game and didnt enjoy it at all. I put in like 50 hours and NG+ and love the crap outta it and my only gripe is the amount of loading screens for a "next gen game" is ridiculous especially after I just finished Spiderman 2 which literally has no loading times except the main menu. Starfield was a good game but you expected Starcitizen features out of a Bethesda game and that seems to be your problem lol@@GhostOokami
I paid for the whole game, I was gonna play the whole game lol. I didn't immediately hate it, it was an over time dissatisfaction. I did enjoy a few aspects of the game, specifically the Ryujin and Crimson Fleet, I loved those. The game itself is just a 4/10 game, 5/10 if they fix performance, which I doubt they will, it is Bethesda after all. If they got rid of 80% of the loading screens that would improve the game a ton, theres zero reason I need to load a 10x10ft room in new atlantis as a separate place.
A game this massive is bound to have some imperfections here and there.”
And what else is Bethesda going to think other than “Hey! I can release a colossal mess and the people who bought it will give me good PR for free! Alright!”
The fans did this to themselves. Bethesda pushed the limit to see how much fans are willing to put up with, and my only concern is seeing how long it took for consumers to realize that they were sitting in a pot of water being boiled.
Lol I still haven't finished skyrim cus of the garbadge bugs.
Another factor is the modding community. Why pay millions to have actual people test your game across the years of development? When you can have complete strangers fix the problems for free?

The only reason they are recognized as "the best" developers in the industry is because the bar is so low its getting dirty on the ground.
thats what ive been saying alot of AAA games are complete dogshit because they don't add anything creative or new or anything that makes the game enjoyable. then people wonder how they made such shit games and got away with it, well its like no shit you bought the product of course they going to feed you the same shit
They were NEVER recognized as the best developers in the industry, literally never, what are you even talking about?
@@NicaremE Mass gamer opinion, I have yet to hear anybody being the "official" best game developer OR anybody giving two tugs of a dead dogs dick over who the "best official" developer is. It's all opinion guy. If you couldn't extrapolate that... Well heaven help ya.
It's so low it's scrapping against Earth's molten core.
Being the "I told you so" person is both annoying and satisfying, but I really never understood why people were willing to give this guy a pass on so much of his bs
Exactly
At the end of the day ppl are gonna complain about how bad the company is but still buy their next game
@@sam_hm_ Count me out. I bought Fallout 4 on release and I decided I'm never going to buy anything coming from Bethesda again. That was long before Failure 76 was released and it only made me certain my decision is correct.

@@sam_hm_ Sounds like Pokémon fans lol.
Just throwing this out here: Todd has said on record that he's not planning on changing the engine for Elder Scrolls 6 and, possibly, Starfield.
I am not familiar with video game engine, was it the engine that was causing the problems? Or was it because Bethesda are incompetent? Or was it both? They let their community fix their game, the bugs that are in fallout 4 are still present in 76.
@@cheesemoon6319
Both.
Bethesda is using Havok to use the scripting and physics, but a short list of games that use Havok for the same things include
Breath of the Wild , Destiny 2, Far Cry, Halo, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, Monster Hunter world. all the Dark Souls games, Bioshock games, Dead Space, Horizon Zero Dawn, the last Spider-man game.
So it all comes down to BGS not being able to update and upgrade their engine properly
@@AdityaWaghmarenon-lying should be replaced with honest

I'm currently replaying Fallout 4 and I'm enjoying that experience a lot. I also have 560 active plugins in my modlist. So I don't think it's the effort of Bethesda that I'm enjoying.

Bethesda has alot riding in elder scrolls 6. They most likely wont deliver. Thats sad.
I feel like it will depend on how Starfield does. Judging by their recent actions, they'll fuck up that shit as well, but man can hope, amiright?
Edit: like seriously The Elder Scrolls series received such a cult following it would be hard to fuck it up. But I'm not 100 percent sure it would be hard for Bethesda.
Overrated series. Oblivion got old fast in 06' and Fallout 3's changes to turn It Into a mainstream behemoth lost what made that series great imo.
I hope Elder Scrolls VI dosen't even sell well , It's mechanics are extremely dated they just mask shallow gameplay with size.
Gee, i fking hope they don't, its about time one of the trashiest trash game shitting giants fell...
@@fawkkyutuu8851 Overrated yet, game game out in 2011, still has more players than the bulk of games this generation. Talk about Witcher's story or characters all you want it still does not offer the freedom or exploration Beth games do, period
"It's mechanics are extremely dated"
bro we don't know a single thing about TES6 LOL
the only thing we know for sure is that bethesda will never wake up and change the fucking engine into something that actually works, but even a garbage engine (that will break the physics of everything for no real reason if you don't lock skyrim to 60fps) can be modified just enough to have gameplay that's like.. even slightly deeper than whatever snoozefest skyrim's combat was, same with any other general mechanic

That's what I've been saying since Daggerfall. Thanks for voicing a rare (and fucking accurate) point of view that really doesn't see the light of day as much as it should, even with all the attention revolving around 76. Quality memesmithing here, too.
Lol hardly a rare point of view. People have been taking shots at Bethesda for years. There's just a new generation of teenages to preach to now. Bethesda are good but they made mistakes. Easily forgiven if you can see past the peer pressure to hate on them.
@@TheBlank89 no i would say its rare. I've never encountered anyone that will actually admit that Bethesda never made good games. they might have good parts to them but as a whole, they have never been all that great. Skyrim made that shit explode into "never talk shit about Bethesda or any of their games again" and it only just recently started falling off cause of fallout 4 and 76. ID, Zenimax, Obsidian, etc can make good games, but being shackled to Bethesda limits them pretty heavily in every way except funding.
Yeah, honestly 90% of daggerfalls "massive world" is just a stale depthless algorithm. Hardly anything worth your time. Morrowind too has been thouroghly obliterated by time. People really just like to build characters, i think.

Radiant did work as advertised in a build before release, they then toned it way down because NPCs had so many random behaviors it made the world too cahotic, an NPC might've decided to just walk away from it's regular path and you might find him/her at the town over or the middle of the wilderness.
