Within the LAST 48 hours Valve has Sent out 1 OFFICIAL update in regards to TRADING and Dozens of others with a shadow UPDATE. Luke... The reason it has taken steam so long to act on gambling sites is simply because they do not want to act on them. Steam historically has only taken action when the gambling sites' controversy becomes too hot and gains outside interest. What happened at the major, with csgoempire rushing the stage, is enough for steam to want to take precaution, in the event that they do catch a lawsuit for allowing gambling sites to operate, they still have plausible deniability and evidence of them 'trying' to take action. P2P trading, and gambling sites as well, like it or not, boost the skin economy. Steam only makes x amount of millions off cases and market fees BECAUSE they have a real value tied to them, with easy cash out options. I sincerely believe that this is just Steam showing these gambling sites causing drama who their daddy is, and how easy it would be for Steam to shatter their glass houses if it ever did become necessary. Steam is not ethical. Steam also allows minors to gamble. It is run and fuelled 100% by money, and as long as they aren't getting sued, or dragged into childlike controversies, I highly doubt they care about gambling sites whatsoever.
This whole situation is weird but oddly I'm not very worried despite having a lot of money in skins and stickers. I am actually kinda praying that legit sites returning to bots can lead to valve reducing trade ban on items (copium?). But anyway, steam market isn't crashing, skinport and dmarket that to my knowledge operate normally aren't crashing, so the community seems to be taking this quite well.
Valve may not have intended for skins to become what they have - I'm almost 100% sure of it. But it's a major blessing for them that they managed to hit the jackpot with their idea, and I'm sure they realise it's one of the biggest reasons why their game has managed to stay relevant, hence they can never kill the market or trading.

This whole situation is weird, if valve wanted they could change stuff with the api that would affect gamba sites but not p2p marketplaces in general, p2p marketplaces were the best option to use so far imo because you can always list ur items on multiple marketplaces and it's way more faster with trade holds while still having ur items usable in your inventory which makes this thing great, but it's so annoying that tho whole community and the innocent companies/users get hurt by this.
I still think valve could have been less agressive with this by making the update more towards gamba sites and not trying to end p2p forever like that.
For people claiming this is somehow meant to prevent scam, this will in fact encourage it. You won't have people reporting the scammer as they won't be able to confirm where the item went exactly

I tell everyone the same thing; Don't invest any money you can't afford to lose entirely. You do not actually own anything inside CS. Valve has complete control over all assets and they can delete them whenever they want. This isn't the first update to impact skins, and it won't be the last. Just don't get caught holding when the really bad ones roll out.

One optimistic way to look at it is if p2p sites can work around this and gambling sites really die that means so many more skins will be introduced on p2p sites that would’ve ultimately end up in the gambling inventory resulting in a market boom and much more transactions happening
Problem is if P2P comes back which is most likely will with extensions, gamba is 100% going too which will make valve take further action. I don't think they have done all this so far so this doesn't work for them.
It gets even crazier because think about this. Let’s say you want to get rid of your skins on one of the trustworthy marketplaces, if Valve patch all the potential workarounds with API keys and whatnot, then if you send the marketplace your $10000 knife, for 10 full days, you won’t be able to say your knife in their inv, and they won’t be able to have the item listed for sale. Shit’s crazy. Practically just regular trading between players, and IRL buying/selling with cash.

Valve not wanting their skins to be used as a currency is not false. Valve loves that it is a currency because it means a population of people use their buys skins. What they want is to divert the traffic going to all these websites back to their csgo boxes. The game is lowkey dying because of the player numbers decrease so much. Valve is a greedy coorporation like any other so It always traces back to influence and money.
I hope you can make sense of this trade update... everyone is just guessing!

I don't see how this is supposed to affect P2P. Buff in fact requires you steam account API code, which allows them to see your inventory at all times.
I don't know either, I just know the sites cant track the trades
traded items are not shown in inventory for 10 days so buff doesnt know if the trade happened.

Ive been trying to understand all of this on what's the diffrence between P2P and bots is.
Isn't trading your stuff to a Bot basically the same as it were P2P, or am I completely miss understanding what P2P is?
I thankfully have been cashing out all my skins as of the start of this year, and pretty much gotten the bigger chunk of my inv out, through DMarket.
Is cashing out gonna be affected by this?
And is there a chance that valve will rollback these patches/changes?

The thing is, VALVE maybe never intended skins to be traded as they are. But because of that, people are so intrested in skins. And they can´t deny that their skins business is fluctuating the way it is because of the people. Otherwise they never would have made that kind of money in the first place.

Luke been watching for a couple years now great content, could hypothetically and this is just a crazy statement/idea could valve be moving to make steam marketplace the only trading marketplace available? Example maybe down the road steam eliminates third party trading sites but allows their marketplace to have a cash out option thus eliminating competitors and also allowing them to have a fixed percentage rate of their choice. Doubtful idea but at this rate valve is liable to do crazy things
Ive thought about the same thing and talked about it in older mando monday's I just think it would be a bad move, it sounds dumb but it strips away the players freedom and takes away what skins are for players. Not against it just think otherwise. I also think valve would HATE to deal with the hassle that would bring.

Honestly, I'm taking a break from the game with this update. First, Valve destroyed casual play by deleting 1/3rd of their map pool. Second, they destroyed their MM by disabling Overwatch and gimping the already barely functional VAC, and with this update, they essentially killed P2P Marketplaces, forcing the average person to use either the Steam Marketplace (Which is a crazy markup and not even worth it to sell on unless you are trying to buy games) or Bots (which are already annoying asf).
All on its own, like I'm glad that gambling sites are getting shut down, but honestly. This is the straw that broke the camels back for me. When Valve figures out a solution to their cheating situation or adds back a couple maps, then I'll come back, but even opening up the main menu of this game now just hits me with a wall of depression.
Same here, its crazy how fast they react to this but i have spin bots in every second game since release. Ill wait until trade sites work and sell my inventory. Atleast i made a good ammount of profit holding those skins but ist sad they killed the game.

There is no good site, all bots sites have overpriced items so you always lose a lot on those trades, trading is pretty much dead without p2p

dont be scared, valve knows the importance of these marketplaces and will find a fix
wait a few days. There's way too much money involved in buff for it to become obsolete. Whatever happens your funds are safe, they'll implement new systems soon.

If valve wasnt so lazy, they dont want to find and stop specific sites, which i get. But, they lazy solution is to try to make a general change to stop gambling. This being any kind of restriction and what not. If they where more active to stop sites they wouldnt have to create such hazards on the marketplace and affect peoples money this much.

I've said this many times, and i think the reason valve has next to no anticheat is because modern anti cheats dont work. getting a kernel access anticheat doesnt work in the modern world. If valve wants to release an anticheat, they have to find something better than kernel access anticheat AND they need to be the first ones to make it. way too much in my opinion, and i think valve is working on that right now. i think cs2 released garbage so valve can actually update the game, cause if cs2 was crazy on launch then it would have to go crazier for the updates. just my opinion

I just sold an item on dmarket to check and it all went through and got confirmed within 10 minutes, so that's interesting. But with the new changes things may be buggy, so be patient.

Authenticating a transaction was also maybe verifying the items in inventory,
Downstream now the platforms have to make some changes to authenticate the trade
Steam market is working they need to copy how it is verifying the trade.
Steam has done there jobs , devs of other platforms need to work

The update is a W imo. I don't mind sites moving towards bots at all. It'll cut down the p2p sellers that have horrid trade times, severe the last ties skin sites like roll and empire have to skins, and we'd have peace&quiet for a week before "friends" start magically adding you after buying a few skins.
Bot sites are more expensive and it takes longer time to sell something especially whwn you want a fast cashout for one item. And cash traders also habe high fees.

This update is wholey to stop the p2p trading sites because they require your API key which is much worse than giving your skins to a bot. Because the the API key can steal all your skins without you knowing it and even buy/gift games on your account.
They all use p2p and have been for the last few years, if you have bots they will be banned by valve. Terms of service show bot accounts specifically for gamba is a banable offense
That's a you problem if youre getting api scamned, id rather sell and trade my skins as soon as i want, deposit my money instantly to my bank, instead of trading it to a bot, then waiting a week, then waiting for it to be sold. If you cant avoid api scams maybe you should just avoid 3rd party sites as a whole

I don't understand the issue as long as it's all legal, Pro athletes and movie stars promote gambling and nobody bats an eye but regular people do it and somehow it's a bad thing? As long as it's all legit and legal why care at all? Gambling is a choice, nobody can force you to gamble no matter how much someone promotes it.. it's called accountability, I realize more recent generations have no idea what the word means so ill assist, it means you are responsible for your choices and ONLY you. I would be careful what you wish for, it may start with gambling sites but could easily filter into bot sites too, making Steam the only place to trade/sell skins which would kill the prices and make them worthless which in turn would likely mean the end of CS.. skins are the main reason this game is even populated right now given it's current state. FYI I am not a gambler just a firm believer that those millions of people who died for our freedom and right to choose didn't die for nothing.

I will never understand why people hate the gamba sponsors so much. Cases are far worse in terms of odds. If you say cases are not the same you are delusional. You open up a crazy looking knife, the first thing you do is check the price to confirm its as good as you think. Maybe you sell maybe you don't. However, you confirm if it is good or not based on it's value in $. If keys were 2.5 and cases for same price as they are now, but skins had no resale value, would you open cases? No most likley not.
The problem is that a lot of the websites don't authenticate their users. (Don't check their ID to confirm date of birth etc.) This leads to a problem with underage gambling and a lot of the people who are watching/playing CS is under 18

I cant see how this update is against gambling. Its against p2p but not against bot sites .
Websites can no longer track trades for p2p so they cannot give away money without real proof & having bot accounts for gamba is also a no go because valve would just ban them within a day
