Jonathan, I just wanted to thank you for your tutorials on modeling the human head and texture painting on CGCookie which I bought. I wouldn't have been able to do my characters without your tutelage. Your Awesome!!! Keep up the great work!!!
es un exelente trabajo felicidades. me podrias desir que programa es el que usaste y si se puede hacer esos montajes de rostros reales en el blender ??
I'm a 3ds max user and I've been trying to find the tools that mimic this approach to modeling. I noticed you're filling gaps so easily with even quads. good stuff
Amazing work, do you mind me asking, is this your general approach to modelling faces/heads or do you also incorporate box modelling depending on the subject?
that was an amazing technique ....i was gonna try cube modeling for my first organic model wich was going to be a head..but after seeing this i'll use your technique instead :D
You can fill a face by selecting 3-4 vertices and pressing F. If you need to merge vertices together then select all necessary vertices you wish to merge and press ALT + M > At Center
It IS actually! You should download it and try it out!! It's a LOT fun once you REALLY get into it! It's almost addicting. It's totally free and totally computer safe to download! I had it on my computer for a few weeks and every thing on my computer and the program is fine!
Nice. This is the first speed video I liked. Artistry is fine, accuracy is fine, but sometimes viewers want to see technique. Since the video is rather short one... there was not too much time spent on microadjustments, which seem never to be finished. One could focus on technique in this video.
Why doesn't the quads get bent into two triangles like they do with me? Whenever I start pushing vertices around all the quads get bent in the middle and the viewport shows two ugly triangles making a single quad.
Be sure after you load the background image that you're in either top (numpad 7), front(numpad 1), or side view (numpad 3) and that perspective (numpad 5) is turned off.
Can you tell us how did you smooth the head like that? I try making thing but everything look like robotic object. it's probably in modifier I try to look it while it was fast speed but I think it is missing some frame per second that I cant see what you did :P
thing is that's a very usable mesh because of the relativity low poly count. the people who use the sculpt tool have far to many polys to make their meshes usable.
@vincentdu63 sorry didnt mean the music itself was fail....i just wanted to hear him explain what he was doing. i mean its not like he used the youtube national anthem soundmachine 009 or whatever the fark that track is.
@TheDj245 how about you do some maths? It isn't hard to take the time where it said "3x speed" and multiply it by an outstanding amount of...3...and the add in the remaining "real-time" time... Sheesh...
@FanaticPlay I use both. Most of the time I use edge-by-edge for the face and then box modeling for the rest of the body.

Not sure if you meant for the to be a tutorial, but this is the best head tutorial I've found. Thanks.
I can't even tell you how helpful this was. Thanks so much!

I like your workflow, I usually start with the eyes, but I would like to try your way. its nice. thanx for uploading this.
amazing man. i did a module for this on my course and i know how complex tthis stuff is. nice one dude, quite epic. n the music is sick too
Dang. You're awesome! Wish to be able to do that too some day!
Amazing work, do you mind me asking, is this your general approach to modelling faces/heads or do you also incorporate box modelling depending on the subject?
The tool you're thinking of is the proportional editing tool, it can be accessed by hitting O while in Edit Mode :)
that was an amazing technique ....i was gonna try cube modeling for my first organic model wich was going to be a head..but after seeing this i'll use your technique instead :D
You can fill a face by selecting 3-4 vertices and pressing F. If you need to merge vertices together then select all necessary vertices you wish to merge and press ALT + M > At Center
Simply use a mirror modifier. You can access the modifiers via the edit buttons (f9 I believe.)
Wow this *looks* easy to use. Easier than Maya...wow. This looks great.

you are a true master
outstanding skills!
Nice.

@bloodkish9
The song is called Navras and you can find it on the OST of Matrix Revolutions.
Great, thanks! Finally found a good way to model the nose.
you should make the full body and sell it on turbosquid, that model looks really good.
i think its by hitting f,you choose both of the vertices and hit f
hey thx for the tutorials in ur site
they are VERY helpfull 5/5 on them :D
I'm using the proportional editing tool. It can be activated with "O" on your keyboard :)
I liked what you did, will you teach me to model something?
Why doesn't the quads get bent into two triangles like they do with me? Whenever I start pushing vertices around all the quads get bent in the middle and the viewport shows two ugly triangles making a single quad.
Realmente el programa que esta usando es una version del Blender muy probablemente 2.4
adorei a aula, mas como eu estico a forma que esta pintada de preto.

thats awsome i have blender i dont know how to use it im trying to find a web site where they can give me a crash course on how to use it
cool mesh :) cool song..who sings?
Select both of the meshes in Object mode and hit Control+J to join the objects.
Friggin amazing!
Great job!
awesome technique
With the mirror modifier on, only half the head shows up when you press P to play.
AWESOME MAN ! NICE
thx it helped me a lot :) just finished my had...
Hey nicee video, edge loops great
How can you edit righ and left side in same time.. i am mean the example if you are editing left nose side ..and ride side editing too..
one question left to be answered: how do you adjust e.g. the nose to fit all right? its not just the "g" key, its something else...?
this is awesome
amazing, so many things Blender can do for only a 12 mb download.
You should make a tutorial. =)
Can you tell us how did you smooth the head like that?

madonna mia :) Bravo!!!
Nice music.
theres some good references at the-blueprints(DOT)com for just about anything theres stuff for cars, airplanes, people just about anything
and how can i get the face when i get just the vertices?
thing is that's a very usable mesh because of the relativity low poly count. the people who use the sculpt tool have far to many polys to make their meshes usable.
@vincentdu63 sorry didnt mean the music itself was fail....i just wanted to hear him explain what he was doing. i mean its not like he used the youtube national anthem soundmachine 009 or whatever the fark that track is.
how do you join in edit mode the vertexses?
i really need to know can someone please tell me?
awesome!
@TheGoldenlegend1 yeah but it was the old 2.44 version now we have 2.5 much better
for how many years are you working with blender ?
how do you model like that? I know how to box model but it seems less effecient than how you do it
can you tell me the modeling technique so i can search it up on youtube?
Glad to hear it :)
woow perfect!!!
how did you set the camera up from a different angle
MORTAL COMBAT!!! lol you modeled the F out of that head, gj
Just out of curiosity, would you mind me asking how long you've been modelling?
what is this adjustement tool hes using? for example at 1:15
i wanna know it :)
thanks for answers
how do u connected the edges?
Awesome!
Make a tutorial pls!
Nice Work!
05:56 song?
can you please do a tutorial for us simple folk =]. It would realli help alot.
How much time does it take?
Nice!
great!
this is blender?
can u give me the link for the image
is this fast foward?
For six years now :)
Its made with blender! Awesome isn't it
Select the vertices/edges and hit F.
what is the soundtrack?
how much do you want for 2 faces ? :)
how do you get the image reference?
Juno Reactor if I remember correctly.
@aap998 sculpt was barely usable when I made this originally.
thanks a bunch man :)
Edge-by-edge is what I generally refer to it as.
@jonathancarter26 the music is indeed, fail
still, nice modelling.
@blendercookie Ah ok, I'll experiment with that approach then.
thank you very much
were did you get the image for the head?
I turned on a Subsurf modifier from the Edit Buttons.
where do you get all of your reference images from?
Yes.
finally...puuh that one was missing...
Blender ftw
@TheDj245 how about you do some maths? It isn't hard to take the time where it said "3x speed" and multiply it by an outstanding amount of...3...and the add in the remaining "real-time" time... Sheesh...
WOW!
music name?
damnit i cant find it :
@ratman1982 nope it's not :)
@QUATR00 The guy probably didn't want to bother >.>
me next!
me too :) i want that
