I have been a Bruce Lee fan and collector for over 25 years. I cannot believe what my eyes have just seen! This is the most amazing and beautiful artwork on Bruce Lee that I have seen! You are truly a Master and genius. I didn't know that so much work is involved in this kind of project and now I have utmost respect for animators and artists. Sir, you have done a masterpiece!!!! WOW!!!!!
Watching your work, it made me remember Bruce Lee's quote: "Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way round or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water...Be water my friend." You got it, bro.
For sculpting : ZBrush(used in this vid), Mudbox, 3D Coat, Sculptris(free), etc. For poly modeling Maya (used in this vid), Softimage, 3DSMax, Modo, Blender (free), etc. You have also 3rd party renderers (this video is using bundled MentalRay) Some of this programs have free/cheap student versions and / or trials. PC is just another tool, if you can do it with clay, you'll be able to do it with a pen tablet. If you don't have a pen tablet, buy one. If you can afford it, buy a screen tablet.
Excellent process and resulting likeness. "An artist is only as good as his references." I appreciate your methodical dedication and attention to detail.
this is crazy talent. I am an artist,, I can draw this portrait of bruce lee on a paper no problem. But this...making the actual proportions...the eyes...wow..
Incredible video !! Thanks for sharing. I would like to know : How do you make the transfer between your basemesh made in maya and your ZBrush sculpt ??
That hair creation method is great. i love it... good use of nurbs at first aswell. some good stuff shown hear. Do you know of any tuts that show your hair growing method ? seems to grow from splines. Sweet
what is the gpu that you use? for 3d modeling the best gpu would be amd or nvidia?i read something about CUDA cores and i wanna know if they're really important. thanks :)
I actually love to know and understand the physical properties of skin shading etc. It is a lot of work and pretty long to achieve but i find it interesting. I completely agree with the fact you still have to use and understand the basis to get better as a 3d artist. I draw, sculpt and paint a bit and my capabilities of understanding texturing, modeling and shading got better since I re-started to do some traditionnal art. Anyway, I still respect your opinion :P have a nice day !
What kind of maps do you advice use to achieve this effect? Cos by now I know normals and textures pretty well, but I've not yet looked into displacement, occlusion and specular maps (and maybe others). So my question is, what is recommended for portraits?
I know it would be quite time consuming, but would you ever consider making a tutorial while you make a 3D model, where you explain as you go along and give some tips?
My god, this is an excellent work! Every single detail is amazing, congratulations! I’ve never seen a 3d portrait as good as this one, and good job with the video too!
I really like how you went through the whole trial and error stage of getting the lighting for his skin right. Is there a pre-made shader already in maya to facilitate translucency for the skin?
I just finished a similar try quickly just trying to learn all the steps and how to use mudbox. You have really helped my confidence as I was just grasping at straws and it looks like I was right on track. Thanks!
Incredible.. This is actually a really awesome production of the whole process. Shows you can actually edit too. My favourite part was the swipes showing the small adjustments to the face. I've never seen that done! Awesome stuff :)
Very nice! Your workflow is very accurate, fast and modern! really good!!! .would be nice to see a render with half-length camera, in pose to make a kick!
Amazing. just. Amazing. How long has the process from start to finish taken.? it looked like so many fazes the piece had to go through. just wondering?
