    Hey friends... It seems like the audio and video are out of whack part way through the video. No idea what went wrong there. My apologies. Hope you can still listen to the content and find value. I'm a noob and I'm still learning. I've tried to rectify this in the software, however, no luck. I'll do better.

    Steve, new subscriber. Just want to say that after only 3 of your videos tonight, I’m very glad that you’re in recruiting! Job well done on your work in these videos so far. I wasn’t expecting much when I came across you, but you have an excellent attitude and positive perspective for those curious about a career in law enforcement 👏

      @@RealCopsReelLife It’s my pleasure Steve. I’ve learned so much over the decades and really appreciate your videos. I have been mentoring a pair of young twin brothers for a few years who are hellbent on joining the force. I’ve actually been trying to discourage them hahaha. They won’t listen, but I don’t believe that they are anywhere close to being ready, but I’m going to refer them to your channel 👍

    They say the new federal training facilities and the new training agenda is on the way. The commissioner also mentions that the curren depot system will be replaced by a degree-base academy.

    I was raised on the Okanagan reserve and had numerous encounters with law enforcement during my upbringing. It's essential to clarify that I was not a delinquent; rather, I was in a challenging environment marked by substance abuse and family instability.
    I failed to disclose these past police interactions, primarily because I couldn't recollect them at the time. Consequently, I received a ten-year deferral due to this omission.
    At the age of 18, I ventured to Alberta independently and secured gainful employment. Over the past six years, I have maintained an exemplary record, devoid of even minor infractions or negative encounters with law enforcement.
    I have consciously abstained from alcohol and drug use throughout this period.
    I am left to wonder whether the recruiter's judgment was influenced by external factors that day. It is important to note that I consistently spoke the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it may have been. One's integrity, as a person, hinges upon the veracity of their word.

    • @big_red_machine3547
      @big_red_machine3547 11 місяців тому

      I doubt that it had anything to do with the recruiter’s judgment that day. I’m really sorry this happened. The recruiters already know about every interaction with police that you’ve ever had. Even if they don’t ask, they want to see if you’ll bring it up on your own volition. Since it sounds like you didn’t, you got deferred. If you ever apply again- you’ll know that it’s not enough to just answer their questions, but to spill the beans about everything and admit that you’re a human being. That’s what they want to hear- And yes- that you remain a good citizen and care about your community. Stay the course!

      Them bringing up an incident between my parents should have nothing to do with me.

      @@AstroEtherealDiscovery That’s unfortunate man. I was thinking that it was something that you knew about and when it happened, they recorded your name on the file. If that was the case, they would’ve known about it already.
      There’s no clear path when it comes to getting hired as a LEO. There are a million different variables involved in the process, and they aren’t obligated to explain their rationale for deciding not to hire you. You could “pass” everything, and still not get hired for whatever reason. Maybe they just don’t like your appearance or attitude etc. Their job is to see if you are a person who would make a good cop or not. The whole process is also a “risk assessment” where they imagine if you’d have problems on duty or likely do something that would cause embarrassment to the force. Maybe the recruiters figured that you weren’t a good enough communicator or have the personality that would be able to deescalate conflicts with ease etc. Could be anything really, but it wouldn’t be anything related to race or gender. I can guarantee that at least. In fact, as a non white male, your chances of being hired go way up because a federal agency is required by law to represent the Canadian population in its workforce.
      Recruiters are humans. They are several different people involved with the hiring of any one applicant so as to guarantee that there’s no discrimination or bias. They must all agree that you’re suitable or not suitable. I know nothing about you, but I’m just hoping that you don’t get sick over this. If you didn’t get hired, take that as a sign that it’s not meant to be, and that you’re supposed to be doing something else in life. Maybe it’s a blessing that you didn’t get hired actually. You’ll find your way. Move forward and don’t stew about it. You’re going to find your true purpose. Just keep your chin up, shoulders back and have faith, and you’ll be okay. Things will work out.
      This may not make sense, but I hope that it helped a little bit.

      @@AstroEtherealDiscovery I’ll add that your writing style is exceptionally good! You’re obviously very intelligent and are probably a great asset to any community. There are many ways to be an outstanding citizen without being a cop.

    I think the best would to reduce contract policing and focus more on federal policing. A smaller contract wing would improve the service smaller but much more effective.

    • @RealCopsReelLife
      @RealCopsReelLife  10 місяців тому

      That might be the direction. It’ll be interesting to see how / who the provinces will get to police these remote locations.

    • @MrViyasan
      @MrViyasan Місяць тому

      RCMP would prefer to get out of the business of contract policing but politics is what is holding it back. Provinces get policing at a 30% discount, feds get influence and presence in provinces.

    Like always Another great video Steven. I had a question totally unrelated to this video. Were there ever moments in you active patrolling part of your career where you felt uncomfortable doing something because maybe it was different to your moral and ethical values (although legally mandated). I have a-lot of close friends and family in policing agencies and many say that they have had to do something (maybe an arrest or anti riot) that they felt wrong doing. A lot of them said that shortly after these incidents they often lost morale, and felt out of place often leading to mental stress and anxiety. What are your options on this

    • @RealCopsReelLife
      @RealCopsReelLife  11 місяців тому +2

      Thanks for watching my friend… and great discussion point.
      For me, I’ve never been in a situation where my job went against my moral compass. In the end, we need to be accountable… to ourselves and to those we serve. Each of us will balance this according to the situation at hand.

    • @big_red_machine3547
      @big_red_machine3547 11 місяців тому +1

      This is an excellent question and not many people think of this. From my experience, (and I don’t know if this will answer your question/concern) is that police used to have a certain amount of leniency in some situations. I’m an older guy now, but since about 07 or so, the iPhone came out. Suddenly every citizen was a journalist. Social media was like gas on the fire. BWCs came standard and every move you made was recorded. Whether or not you think that someone deserves a break, you can’t make a single error in judgment because it’s documented and can come back to ruin your life. That’s only one part of your concern. An officer must always put the rule of law before his feelings about things to CYA at all times (cover your ass). It’s black and white now. If that’s going to bother you, then federal corrections officers are afforded much greater discretion in their duties because you’re not in the public “fishbowl”. Good luck 🤞

    Depot would be skipped and they would be trained at some facility in ottawa
