      a simple answer is to add a second warp core thus doubling the power

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  25 днів тому

      Unfortunately James, that is not an easy or simple fix... Warp Cores generate HUGE amounts of energy, thus why only 1 is generally used in a starship... When you begin adding more, there is simply no where for the excess power to go... It would be like taking your cell phone, which is designed for 1 battery, adding a second one to run simultaneously and at best what you would do is completely fry your phone... Im terms of starships, you'd quickly cause a core breach!

Those guys seemed to love sticking 'megaphasers' on things. :) I think they had one called the Alaska class that we kinda liked. (Our long-running RPG world featured a number of other ships and starbases we'd interact with recurringly, different personalities of captains, fleet politics, starbase administrators here and there. Sometimes there was an Alaska class USS Vincennes bein the big kid on the block. It was kinda TOS movie/Enterprise refit era. That Alaska class looked maybe like an Enterprise-refit style Excelsior forerunner. Kinda long, similar proportions. I don't quite see it on a quick Google search. )

    According to the older tech manuals I own (which pretate TNG and are probably older than the channel host), the items on the engine pylons and facing aft above the shuttle bay are long range sensors, fir listening in on enemy forces. The Miranda rollbar has the Megaphasers. These were only ever called pulse phasers in the DS9 tech manual, but since they were never used there, how would they know? In fact, the only time we EVER saw them fired was Wrath of Khan, and he had the power turned way down, so he could actually gloat over Kirk... and after Reliant's warp core was knocked out, they never fired at full power.

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics

      Sorry, you are incorrect on all accounts A) Im older than you (and most manuals) are unless you've been a Trek fan for 50 years or more as I have... Besides, age really has nothing to do with anything, which brings up my next point...B) Nothing you've said is really true! Your assumptions about the Wrath of Khan are not backed up in Canon or Beta Canon, which actually says the opposite of what you wish was true. In future, before commenting, do better research and not confine yourself to assumptions and 1 source! Take care

If it could, you could have two running at 50% to power the ship under normal circumstances, then in a combat scenario crank one up to 100% to run the ship's basic systems, and the other could go at 100% devoted to just weapons and shields. Of course I failed warp theory in school so I could be wrong! Lol

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  Рік тому

      No, you are incorrect. It's not like a battery that way! Due to matter/ antimatters ratio being 1 to 1, while active it is generating the same amount of power, which is distributed as plasma to the various systems of the ship. Put simply, there isnt a way to add a second warp core as it would generate far too much power without a way to bleed it off, especially in normal operations!

    Given that this was unlikely to be deployed on 5yr missions, thus requiring less cargo capacity need, it would stand to reason that a second updated horizontal warp core could be added to this intimidating design. As to the Lance's, they could be switched out for an over & under pair of the proven mega phasers. All that it'd require is an additional mount.
    This is a bit of a nitpick, but if you pay any abide to the Roddenberry Rules of Starship design, which were seemingly followed by the production designers in regards to the Canon ships, then shouldn't the nacelles be oriented so that the grills have line of sight...?
    As always, it's a stellar video. :)

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  Рік тому +1

      First, there is no such Roddenberry rule... This a myth created by Roddenberry himself when he and Franz Joseph got in to an argument over Gene using his starship designs in TMP. And the reason this becomes a myth, is because Roddenberry himself often broke the rule in designs he signed off for in TNG. You cant say theres a rule, and then not abide by it yourself... And no, the Production Designers didnt follow that supposed rule, see the USS Stargazer from TNG, who's nacelles ARE on their side!
      Second, you cant just add a second warp core. It would be like adding a second battery to your cell phone, it would simply burn it out, as there is no way to utilize the excess energy on a constant basis.
      Third, the Mega Phasers didnt work in this design to begin with, so you would be just swapping one problem for another!

    I wonder, what if they had equipped the ship with an extra warp core by extending the neck structure and adding more thickness and armoring around it, as well as making the impulse engine larger to cover it up? This way, there would be more power to allocate to all the different weapon systems, and, so long as the ship wasn't produced in massive numbers, the additional construction and maintenance cost of having a warship with 2 warp cores could be justified by having the asset be available when they might not need it instead of it not being available when they really did need something like it.

      You cant just add a second warp core. It would be like adding a second battery to your cell phone, it would simply burn it out, as there is no way to utilize the excess energy on a constant basis.

  • @livingchutoy5422
    @livingchutoy5422 Рік тому

    An interesting, if not unique, kitbash design. One issue though, and just a personal opinion, is the addition of the Lance phasers. They seem way too overkill in terms of offensive capabilities and heavily against the Federation policy of not creating warships. To boot Starfleet engineers would have know the standard Warp cores (even the new ones) woyld not have the power or stability to power them. Starfleet wotld have been well aware of the power requirements for such weapons and would jot have deployed them like this with performing some form of trials. Starting out with equipping one and then seeing how it performed before just attaching two more. This class was doomed to fail right out of space Dock if they failed to account for power requirements for all weapons systems aboard the class. Almost like they wanted it to fail at that point.

    My question is: why should a kitbash-ship have a NX-Registry? doesn't make sense. also in-universe this ship would be build from approved and tested parts on a also preexisting spaceframe. so there would no experimental status necessary,

    • @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics
      @TriAngulumStudiosAudioComics  Рік тому

      Incorrect on ALL accounts!
      First off, canon has shown us that the NX Registry is given to ANY class that is the first test subject for the line! SEE Excelsior, Prometheus etc etc.. So it makes absolute sense!
      Second, Your comment on "in-universe this ship would be build from approved and tested parts on a also preexisting spaceframe. so there would no experimental status necessary" is also untrue. If that were the case, then Starfleet would NEVER have technological breakthroughs or upgrade it's tech , as they will always NEED a test vessel for any new concepts or technology to prove it would work!
      Sorry, you've got nothing here!
