Have learned so much from you Dave! Thanks for the endorsement of the CamelBak ArmorBak! That's the one I use on my kit. Respectfully --Michael Eidson 1st Cav Division ...inventor CamelBak.
Definitely going to grab a paint can opener next time I see one. Love watching these videos. Not for the kit setup in it's entirety, but for the little things like that.
Good tip for your hydration bladder: Blow into it like a balloon before next use. If your out of breath it will pressurize the water and it will flow for ya. No suckage hardly needed. All the years Ive used them I never knew till I seen a SEAL do it. Great content gentlemen 👍
When I run a ballistic shield I run a main pistol and a backup pistol. Same mags for each. 6 factory extended pistol mags, but I'm not packing a carbine. I have never used 6 mags before. I am glad they are there though.
You can't! That's cultural appropriation of painters.^^ I didn't know there was a dedicated paint can opener. Nice. The usable drag loop & watersupply setup was quite helpful too.
My grandson just joined the second battalion, 75th rangers after completing RASP and jump school. Very interesting to see what all he will be carrying.
This is good advice and appropriated. Dont do cool guy stuff but still in the reserves and Im always trying to improve my gear to work better despite limited time and training. Thanks.
A million and 1 ways to set up your kit what works for one guy may not for another but that drag handle idea is slick and I'll do that to my kit, I'll probably wrap red tape on the drag part so doc and my buddies can easily see what to grab
I always use the beer can grip on belt mags... not because I thought it was superior, but because my rotator cuff is fucked and I'm no longer flexible enough to get my hand high enough for solid purchase the other way. I also run 2-3 pistol mags on my belt, mainly because of the line theory. I keep 70-80% of my primary load on my PC, 70-80% of secondary load on my belt, split the difference f both across all 3 lines. So it ends up being 3 or 4 primaries and 1-2 secondary on the PC, 2-3 secondary and 1 primary on the belt, 2-4 (or more if needed) primary and secondary in my 3rd line. Main fighting knife on belt, along with multitool and bleeder kit (plus a small boo boo pouch with some bandaids and a credit card wrapped in duct tape... it's more useful than you'd think, and weighs next to nothing). Also carry a 1 qt canteen on the belt, because water is life and a camelback can rupture. I still carry the camelback, but it's a standalone I can pull off like a backpack (which it also doubles as when I need to go lighter, since there is enough room in there for a 3lt bladder and about 2 broken down MREs, a few energy bars, 3 pairs of socks, and the various mags for my weapons). Mission critical gear goes on the PC, along with the main IFAK and an admin pouch for random shit. I have a red/white headlamp mounted to the front of the PC on the chest area, while still having enough room for a phone pouch front and center. Everything else is staged in the 3rd line pack. It sounds like a lot, but without the 3rd line I've got the first and second line down to about 18-25 lbs fully loaded. Materials matter, and hypalon is a fucking godsend. Using gear that incorporates that material (as well as the codura laminates) drops weight by 5-10 lbs altogether. My 3rd line pack weighs between 50 and 70 lbs, depending on what needs to be done. Oh, and there are about 10 tourniquets (7 CATs, 3 SWAT-Ts) staged throughout my kit, 1 CAT for each limb, plus 3 extra of the CATS and SWAT-Ts for the IFAKs just in case someone else needs them. The SWAT-Ts double as effective pressure bandages if you run out... they don't necessarily need to be used as tourniquets. Plus they're very compact compared to the CATs, even though the CATs work better (which is why there are more of them). Oh, and booze and dip, because fuck you LOL
Semper Fi, great tip on the paint can opener. Adding it to my kit tonight! I always break out my knife during stuck rounds and try. However, this makes waaay more sense.
If you tie a piece of shock cord to it and tie it to your PC, it's always there when you need it, and you don't have to waste time stuffing it back in during a firefight. just let it hang.
I'm the same way with the bite valve. just keep in mind i have bumped that on/off valve before and leaked out water so I do keep it on now. But honestly if its secured and the tension on it is not easily manipulated on and off then great.
Short and simple. 👍 Would like to see some comms integration, nav equipmentt, and a fixed blade. Some smoke, frag and bangers would be helpful. And only 4 mags? Even with one in the gun you are 2 short. Carry 420rds min. 210 is a single combat load as you know. I prefer to keep at least another in a day pack. 2 420rd cans on strippers and 3 pelicans loaded with 10 mags each of specialty (900rds) ready. 2160 rds is what I believe is needed just for the rifle. Triple that amount is my 6 month training amount. 4000rds pistol (45 and 9) per year 1000rds long range (308 and 300WM) 1000rds 12ga slug and buck.
Nice, but naming the brands or putting links to them in the description for all of the things you go over, such as the actual belt used, would be much more helpful than simply showing your set-up. Still a nice video.
finally. i can look like a ranger while im getting groceries
You are here as well?
Haha I was just looking to get an idea of a proper plate carrier set up for my security job

Wow I looked it up and you actually invented it, thank you for your contribution to my hydration 😂
you’re still doing cool guy stuff by educating the rest of us!
Amen friend.
A wise man once told me that those who no longer do must teach.
Always learn stuff when I watch these. Seems like a humble dude who's a forever student
That paint can opener is new. That's a clever concept I hadn't considered before.
The paint can opener is ingenious. I spent years in the Infantry, and a few as a painter. I never even heard of such a thing.
The most meaningful explanation after 10 other videos, thank you. You can see the experience...
Definitely going to grab a paint can opener next time I see one. Love watching these videos. Not for the kit setup in it's entirety, but for the little things like that.

Lots of golden nuggets here. The drag handle/belt combo is genius.
Great info! Always interesting to see how different gear is set up!
Paint can opener tip is awesome!
Dave, your cool guy days will never end. Sua Sponte!
You guys should totally do a video on that paint can opener! I think it’s an underrated part of this video.
I immediately went out to my shop and got of couple of paint can openers. Awesome idea. Some have a bottle opener on the other end.
I'm reminded of my Uncles"Carpentry" tool belt when I watch this. And his and yours are both used for hammering" Nails"......thanks!
Good vid Dave. One of the best I’ve seen. Paint can-opener is a sweet add for me.
Dope💯 Stoked to see the Videos back🤟🏽😎
Thanks for the run down and great info efficiently presented. Like the paint can opener, brilliant and a bottle opener to boot.
Never been in the military but I carry my rifle mag like you showed, just felt right
Great explanations! Love the logic my dude

I like your style. Straight to the point.
Thanks Colton.
Basically the same way I have mine, just need to find a good single pistol mag pouch for the plate carrier. Thanks for the run down!
