One of the things I really like about this channel is how each of you talks about your gear in terms of what works for you. Like the way you have zip tied your Safariland flex adapter to your belt. You just matter of fact said it works for you and you encouraged guys to experiment and find what works best for us. A lot of tacticool guys try to tell the rest of us that there is only one way to wear your stuff and that you're an idiot if you don't wear it like them. And that everyone is going to laugh at you. It's really been a breath of fresh air with how laid back and non judgemental you guys are. Thanks for the great content!
Right on, glad you liked the video! The one thing we ask ourselves when we make these decisions with gear is very simple: does it increase my lethality? And that's why it's important for your setup to be tailored to you specifically and not cookie cutter with everything. Certain SOPs like tourniquet placement are there for a reason and not a variable, but other little things are up to the individual
Mike..I liked how you pointed out the standardized placement of tourniquets on your plate carrier and sleeve pouches. It's important I think that a unit carries tourniquet/medical in the same location..that way if the scenario plays out in contact and someone goes down you know right where med kit is on everybody.
Semper Fi brother, love seeing this video. My grandpa was Recon Raider during the assault in Iwa Jima. I'm a old 0313 / 0352. We never had the MARSOC that I know of back in the 94-98 area. You guys are the real deal and it's really cool to learn how much has changed in the time I've been out. I came across some young Devil Dogs while playing Airsoft with my kids near Spokane WA. Semper Fi Brother! I was a Force Recon (4th Force) guy for about a minute in the 80's and 90's. Although the equipment you all are running is quite different than the Flintstone shit we had, the logic is the same; tight linear arrangement of all of your trash, and a minimalist approach to what you need (we were big on securing all of our gear with para chord...King Neptune WILL steal your shit). Our biggest issue early on was the body armor, which we rarely wore in the field, if at all. H and Y harnesses, some foreign chest rigs, canteens (lol, way back machine). Good to see we have come along nicely. Flexibility was key. Looks like that hasn't changed.
WOW this is great new stuff when I was in the Marine Corps 1987-1991we wore camo BDUs black t shirt and tiger stripe! My Forced Recon Unit wore flack jackets from Vietnam era. Our stuff was Allis Web belt 1985, nylon suspenders, M 14 mag pouches 2 M 69 plastic canteens M12 pistol holster Nylon and rook sack or butt pack my K Bar was on my left side suspender pad and my compass pouch was on my right suspender pad. My flashlight was on my suspender to. SEMPER FI Raider!!!!
Could we maybe get a video of just the basics of the marine raider? Obviously some stuff you can’t or don’t want to talk about but just what they do mainly would be great
More talk on MARSOC would be cool. I was bottom of the barrel as a Motor-T guy but we supported MARSOC periodically, always been a fan and even prior to joining I read about the Raiders a lot.
Hey Mike, Semper Fi. I love gear set-ups and making me think what to have. Obviously this set up is a raid type arrangement. What about something long, like patrol/extended field operation. Hell, what would you have for a long-term SHTF/Walking Dead scenario where what you carry is it forever. I know it sounds stupid, but i see these as scenarios for training/gear set up.
First of all, Semper Fi dude, second that's definitely not a stupid thing to be curious about because we've trained to it several times and it is not fun. We had a company SEA who was by far one of the most badass dudes you could ever hope to meet and he was a big fan of testing the men's metal. So we would do week long green side SR missions with multiple target sites and were talking 8-10 miles apart through terrain in the middle of the night with a ton of gear. No resupply so whatever we wanted to survive on we had to pack out. Too much to go into the weeds with here, but I think that would be a great video in the future 🤙
@M. Denz I believe he said the knife was for SOCP so that would mean it's mainly there for a quick deployable knife to use in hand to hand vs as a utility knife.
I always wanted some of the Crye style tri color that Beyond Clothing was making. Not sure if they still are. Also, kind of surprised by the small quantity of mags. Somewhere I have a paracord single point with a carabiner on one end. I think it came from an Army dude. Cool if running a carrier. Also, wish Safariland had duty type retention holsters for the Glock 48
Usually 5-6 primary mags is standard, 1 in the gun, 3 on the plates and at least 1 maybe 2 extra on the belt. For green side stuff we will typically load out more because it's usually a multi day thing, but we also have a completely different rig for that. This is a typical raid setup. Also everything is a tradeoff, on ship for example we are very careful about how we streamline our gear cuz the doors and hatches are very tight and great gets snagged constantly. Cheers
I always find it funny on how gear set up has changed over the past few decades. I went into the Marines in 1995 as an 0311, our gear was crap and we carried a lot of it. Deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq changed how we carried it and then what we carried. To see body armor go from grunts being mini walking tanks to streamline light weight is awesome. Yut Yut…..

But I have to say that I really enjoy Dor and Cochs videos. I would gladly buy and drink a beer with those guys; even though they’re squids! Lol. Semper Fi brother.

It was an honor, as far as tourniquet attachment goes I run an elastic holder that fits into the molle. Rubber bands are also very common, sometimes dudes even use boot bands haha. Only downside of rubber bands is they require constant maintenance cuz they degrade quickly and if you get snagged on something there goes your tourniquet. We try and stay away from velcro cuz it is shockingly loud at night.
