    I'm shocked (but not) to read how many people are surprised that special operations carry fewer mags than your basic infantry.

      I serve in the army of Ukraine, now we are engaged in heavy battles with the Russians, and in the standard scheme I have 7 magazines for the AK-47. Yes, unfortunately the AK-47, and there are still many of them in individual special units. Every day I fire about 700 rounds of ammunition at these savages. Ukrainian land is littered with Russian corpses here.

    This made me realize my basic training instructor must have been a JTF2 assaulter even though he never directly said it... he always made us load out with 3 magazines of 27 rounds even though the other infanteers who were section commanders made their guys load out with 6 mags of 30. He also mentioned being part of the 2004 Haiti evacuation and somehow I don't exactly think was was part of his time in the RCR...

      We loaded our mags with 28 rounds in the early 90s in Pet before there was a JTF 2. 4 mags and one on the gun. The plastic mags we were issued were probably the reason - nothing like opening your 82 pattern magazine pouch and having all of your ammo pop out like a snake-in-a-can practical joke because the retaining lips broke off your magazine the first time that you hit the ground during an AtoC!

    SOF operator carries less ammo that a standard infantryman. That aint suprising really, we're talking that a sof operator usually has a very specific mission. They are usually in and out deals, and usually have different kinds of support lined up.

    Great video brother! I’m always looking at ways to make my kit more stream line didn’t find anything new on the video but was presented very well. Side not to some of the regular grunts and preppers watching who think he’s not running enough ammo. First off he’s apart of a special ops team who will have a decent amount of info on the job they are going to do. There not have 2 day gun fights in the mountains of Afghanistan lol there going in for a specific purpose and like he said as the mission changes so does his kit. Second for the preppers out there put on all your kit and go for a hike and see just how much weight 10+ mags on is then lay down on the ground and see how far away from the ground you are with double stacks. I’ve had the privilege to train with some of the jtf guys and I’m currently working towards my try out. Wear your gear and try new shit never know you might like it!

      @AGuy-s5v 3 роки тому

      Times change.
      It's not about being prepped for the worst anymore.
      Since support and info for each mission is much greater than it was in the past, conventional wisdom has found the idea "only take what you'll use" to heart.
      No one wants to carry around things that won't be used.
      No one carries night vision on a day trip sort of deal. Ounces add up into pounds eventually, and too many pounds of weight for too long kills my back and my back-pain-free retirement. Anything I can do to lighten the load is always appreciated, especially if the mission allows me to.
      If your mission has a high likelihood to engage, take as much as you need (which is everything and the kitchen sink).
      But if you got a recce type mission then traveling lighter is better.
      Just take what you need.

    Been looking for super clean and lighter plate and carrier setup. Informative to see what actual operators use. For the monkey tail, I see the usage but always concerned with any open loop to catch on something. I am only a back pack hunter who solo hunts and uses a portable tree stand. The ammo load out is the combat minimum I've seen, but I like it.

    • @direct_action_combat
      @direct_action_combat  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks J, it's a self- locking beener. Much safer than a free-gate beener. Less chance of it catching on something. Something simple to keep you secured to your tree stand. Thanks. Have a great day.

      @@direct_action_combat I sucked it up and bought a securing belt and self made drop' protection harness. I never had but one incident with my climbing stand (which twisted to the side on a smaller tree). My securing belt helped me then. Only was an irritating incident, but was still surprised. Hunting solo, it only takes one mistake to make a bad day!

    • @RickyTPB4L

    • @direct_action_combat

      The thought process is the FAK on the back would be extra kit that a buddy or medic could access if needed. Depending the situation, the body armour may be removed to access the wounds anyway if it was me needing the care. Therefore the kit would be available if needed. If I need to perform self-aid, there’s another smaller FAK carried on the gun belt I can access with either hand. Hope this helps.

      @JohnSmith-ei6sc 2 роки тому

      Maybe you don’t understand the meaning of direct action. Direct action means your hitting a target not patrolling around waiting to be engaged. You’re on offence actively hunting the enemy right in their den. You’re going right into the bears cave.

    • @pootytang2872

      210 (7 mags) is the basic load for all normal soldiers, often times for infantry its 390 (13 mags). Men at his level can carry half that since they can shoot much much more accurately.

    +Direct Action Combat Performance Inc Haha, when you pronounce certain words it makes me think of Trailer Park Boys. Can you tell us again what the video was aboot? Just kidding with you, bro. A fine video and at least your gear matches. Whatever load I kit up with, it's a hodge-podge of various camo designs and solid colors. I will be wearing a green pistol belt with my black Glock 21 in a multi cam holster with coyote tan, green, and black pistol mag pouches, a green mag-dump pouch, a tan leather sheath and handle for my KA-BAR, a black ( grip, sheath, and blade) Kershaw Camp 10, a tan MFAK trauma kit, and a large, green meds pouch with a green AK double mags pouch next to a tan one on a Russian Vest Alpha chest rig in the very cool digital flora camo with built in mag pouches behind the MOLLE ( to which, on one of the side utility pouches, I have MOLLEd an ACU Digital 200 round SAW gunner pouch to haul mags in ) mags ranging from black, to orange, to camo mags for my AKM with it's dark, cherry wood looking furniture on a green sling while wearing Urban camo BDUs, and toting my gear in a DPM Dutch ARWY Sting, you get the idea. I just have to ask, 1). What pistol are you running ( make, model, and caliber ), and 2). You don't typically operate with that few extra mags do you? I've said this before but, you can burn more ammo than that breaking contact with a superior force. I carry meds heavy, ammo heavy, so maybe it's me carrying a ton of it and not you carrying too little? IDK. Oh, before I forget, sometimes I find it handy to carry a second mag-dump pouch ( in a different color on the opposite side of my belt, ofc ) for extra storage if I feel I need it. Figured you might find it useful as well, or am I just weird?
