- Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! Martin Shkreli recently sent me a file that hacked him and I decided to go investigating it. Uncovering groups using commonly purchased software this is a chronicling of one of the dumbest ways anyone can get hacked, and how you can avoid it happening to you. Thanks for watching!

Hii
Guys i fart
I got a very similar malware a while ago in email attachment, the .scr extension etc. No, I didn't get hacked, but I wanted to point one more fact that wasn't mentioned in the video:
The .scr file (which actually is an executable) has more than 700MB of size. However the actual malware code is nowhere this big, most of the file is filled with zero bytes (this can be checked in hex editor). This is done because some anti-malware programs (including Windows Defender) won't scan these files as the part of real-time protection (I guess this is done because of performance concerns when scanning large files in the background). So basically this thing uses a flaw in antivirus to get a higher chance to slip into the OS and hack the victim.
Also the file is more than 700MB so that the user assumes its a video file
I might be wrong, but I think the spoofed size count is just to prevent virus checks such as VirusTotal to check for anything malicious
Wow, that's actually smart
do you think it would help if you scanned it with WD manually? just curious
@@DoctorWhom This for sure, not sure what Miskyy is saying is accurate [ not sure, not arguing, have not verified, don't know but it is certainly plausible ]

He said he downloaded a file, first off who downloads porn anymore? first reg flag. Second flag, how can he prove he didnt conspire beforehand with whoever he downloaded whatever from. I dont beleive hed be that dumb not to check the file size downloading porn off torrents, third red flag. Simple, he saw all the rugpulls, thought up hmm how can i do this and get away with it, most likely someone he knows is holding onto the money, and he will eventually get it back in some form or another over time. Listen, back when people were downloading limewire, this is like, 2003, people knew if the file size looks sketch, its most likely a virus or something shady, the fact he was fooled by this is rediculous to me.
As a stoner I can't in good conscience like ur comment I'd ruin its purity
But... he interacted with THAT particular "attacker wallet" 21 days before he was "hacked". His "alibi" is not water tight, and with a rapsheet like his that is a very bad starting point. There's a very short leap between taking peoples money and lying about it and.... taking peoples money and lying about it in another way.

If you think you just got infected, yank the power cord from the wall. Don't give ransomware another second to scramble your files. Use another computer to recover files off that drive

SCR is actually a meta-extension. They are no different from EXEs, the extension just communicates to Windows settings that this program is supposed to be a screen saver.
I'm noobs of tech stuffs but is it like bat files?
@@juggerslash7393 A programmer writes human-readable code in a programming language and compiles that into code that the machine can read (machine code), and that's what is put into the exe file. A bat file is basically a text file with a list of command-line commands to run; it isn't compiled to machine code and you could open it in Notepad to read exactly what commands it will run.
If you're asking about the file extension part, it's a little different because file extensions are supposed to communicate to Windows which program to open a file with. A bat file is opened with the command line program by default, a txt file is opened with Notepad, etc. The scr extension however doesn't change anything about what program opens it because it is already its own program and can run itself.
@@juggerslash7393 Similar, but bat files are still different. Bat files run an interpreter to run Microsoft batch script. So in that sense they are kind of safer, yet they can still run exes and such, so still super powerful and potentially malicious.
scr, com, exe are all just machine code that are directly executable for a Windows machine. The assembly code for a Linux or MacOS system would be a bit different because it uses different system calls. Thankfully they also have different file extension, as Linux does not use scr, com, or exe (presumably intentionally) so there's no accidental confusion. In fact as far as I know on Linux executable files are oftentimes just entirely extension-less files.

B) Throw a bunch of money at someone like Muta to try & help clear his name and get more exposure?
Big *NOPE* on both of those. No way he didn't have malwarebytes, defender or literally anything else to block that .scr file.

I dunno if it's still the case, but I remember a long time ago learning that .SCR files are pretty much just regular .EXE files, usually just with certain functions mostly always present like a configuration mode that shows the config window instead of the screensaver, and functions to monitor mouse and keyboard to end the screensaver when you do something; but those are all optional, you could rename any .EXE to .SCR to make Windows think it is a screensaver.

MD5s are meant for detecting accidental file corruption. They aren't well suited to checking whether a file was intentionally tampered with, because it's not very difficult to find hash collisions.
Always verify multiple checksums. They aren't going to be able to do a collision on a CRC32 and md5 at the same time.
Gosh that bitrate on the spiderman footage

Wow that's really hilarious. The oh so smart college educated crypto bro got hacked because he downloaded porn and launched a trojan on bare metal without any fucks given. If you want to analyse viruses do it in a virtual machine on an airgapped system. Do the virtualization with KVM and preferrably use a second layer (virtual machine in a virtual machine with 2 different operating systems). Use AV software on linux (like clamAV) and defender on windows systems.

Litigation wouldn’t be possible. At all.
First (and most important): Martin is a public figure who is in the public eye in a very negative way. He ruined his own reputation already, and has been openly reported on for quite a long time as a very negative person. He is quite literally “not definable” because his reputation cannot get any lower.
Secondly: you took down the original video upon contact and explanation of the situation
Third: you weren’t doing this with intentional malice and knowingly lying. With as many scams as there are it is entirely believable that this thing that followed another pattern was, indeed a scam.
And last: you sent out a correction video upon doing an investigation, proving you were beyond a shadow of a doubt not intending to defame.
And last and most important
Any litigation would be impossible to hold you to, regardless of country. It won’t hold up. It can’t pass any of the checks out there. And it doesn’t even matter because of the first point. He isn’t possible to defame because his own actions caused massive public outlash that have left him in a very funny place. So please don’t worry about litigation, Muta. You’re alright friend.
Nobody torrents or downloads porn anymore. Unless you’re looking for a particular banger from back in the day. I actually kinda like Martin but I don’t believe this. Seems like he’s admitting to something embarrassing to try and throw people off the trail.
No, Mutahar. Martin Shkreli has earned my particular ire as a valid target for class war.
The content purge of the hub is an enough example as to why people download porn.
Specially JAVs when you don't have the nuclear codes lol.
Technically md5 has been broken. there was a collision found now it's considered deprecated. it's probably fine for file hashing. You shouldn't be using it for security anymore
I'd say it's fine for checking the integrity of a file in terms of whether it was transferred correctly and didn't get corrupted at some point due to e.g. a dodgy network connection or hard drive, but definitely not to check if the file had intentionally been tampered with for security purpsoes.

I hope you realize most the money he loses wouldn't reach him either way, it all goes to a company he's part of that does major research for curing rare disease, which is a very very costly thing in itself. Same with those pills that went from 13.5 to 750 (most of which was paid by insurance companies and not random poor families btw). The money raised from that actually even helped make a better version of the medication that was just as cheap, more efficient and didn't kill people like it previously had.
@@4ltrs573 People don't seem to grasp he wasn't put in prison due to the price hike.... it was defrauding investors and not acting in their best interest.... aka flat out illegal.

martin is pathetic for threatening to sue you
he used torrent to download explicit videos instead of watching them on the internet, he preferred the chance to get hacked instead of watching it just by google it, he knows something or am i putting an aluminium hat
That was exactly what I was thinking I mean what's the point of downloading it if you can watch it online, granted for some people who don't have internet when traveling or something I kinda get it but if you have a company and obviously a decent amount of money I'm sure they have always internet with their phones plans
If Muta doesn't have a video on what to do if your computer is infected with malware, that would be really helpful for people.
and ppl... microsoft does this stupid thing on a new windows installation that is "hide extensions for known file types" which is in folder properties of the explorer... if you didnt uncheck that plz do it now cuz it hides the .txt and other commonly used extensions by default allowing you not to know what that file is.
I wouldn't put anything past Martin given how big of a fraud and scammer he is. He'll happily take any coverage of him that isn't explicitly describing his crimes, or calling him anything less than an evil piece of shit. The guy isn't stupid, and he probably has countless connections that can help him with almost anything. Don't forget why he went to jail. He had no problem fucking over a ton of people that needed affordable medication to help them live normally. Anything short of explicit condemnation of him can help rehabilitate his image.
He didn’t go to jail for anything pharma
@@ethanwasheretoo I don't know what specific charge he went to jail for, but it doesn't matter because what he did was still as evil as it gets. If he went to jail for dodging parking violations, he'd still be who he is.
He went to jail because he basically gambled investors money into his other company, even though his investors made profit, it was still illegal. His price increase scheme that time wasn't illegal a lot of companies were doing that, right now there has been more regulations. A common misconception is that he killed tons of people from his price increase but it has been almost seven years and still no reports of any of that because they will send it to you for free if you dont have insurance that covers it
@@evanlabrie2383 I at least knew he didn't go to jail for doing the price increase, and I didn't know that people had the misconception that what he did resulted in people's deaths. My assertions are that he is evil for doing the act of the price increase itself. Having legal grounds to price gouge a drug doesn't make the act of doing it less horrible, and I hope you can agree that he has no problems making the lives of sick people worse for his personal gain. I take a drug called Humira that is around 13k a month without insurance, and they also have programs that will send it (for a limited period of time) for a very low price. I don't think the makers of Humira are any less shitty or greedy because they have a program that reduces the price of a drug, when they set the price in the first place.
