    After five years of natural hair, I'm relaxing my hair today. I love the power and self love my transition gave me from relaxed to natural hair. Now I can say this desicion to go back is mine and not influence by absolutly anyone or anything (beauty standards). I'm excited.

    I am not a fan of relaxers but girl you DID that. Your hair looks healthy and luscious which isn't that what we're all going for anyways?

    that application was flawless

    • @woodselpen

      Only possible because her hair was:
      1. Only 16 weeks post-relaxer
      2. Already detangled and
      3. Previously well moisturised
      4. Very long and easy to hold far out of the way when applying relaxer to sections.
      These 4 things made the application easy because there were NO tangles, parting each section was easy, and relaxer didn't end up on the already relaxed hair.

    I am addicted to your vids. I don't know how I found you lol I am going back to relaxed hair. I can't do this natural life. My hair was healthier and longer when I did what you are doing. I relaxed every few months, my new growth only and it worked for me. I tried following a trend of the natural hair and it's not for me. After almost 2 years~ To each their own, but I miss my healthy relaxed hair. Kudos to you for doing these amazing videos. You are beautiful!

      It's not a trend. You don't have the patience to do with your natural hair so don't insult us by saying it's a trend. Don't let that lye get to your brain.

    • @marinevaletudie9617
      @marinevaletudie9617 4 роки тому +2

      @@FallnAngel07 it is a trend. Everyone started going back to natural, quasi every relaxed youtuber big chopped or transitionned, and new youtubers started doing ytb for natural hair, it was truly a trend, plus patience might not be the only problem, some hair just don't like being natural, sorry but it's true, some hair like to be stretched and dont break because of that, some dont like that and prefer being in their natural states, plus, not everybody have the time to deal with natural hair so yep

    And some girls say you can't have long hair if you get a relaxer. This is proof and I always would get one in between grading sections and my hair grew out like 4 inches

    • @utube2825
      @utube2825 5 років тому +4

      True: her hair is long, thick and healthy. I suspect the reason for this is, she minimises heat. Lets her hair airdry plus only flatirons on wash day. This is what I do and my hair is just like hers

    You said you are currently 16 weeks post relaxer in this video, but your hair looks so smooth and one can hardly notice that you have new growth. How did you achieve this result of making your hair look so smooth even with new growth in it?

  • @IcedLipGloss
    @IcedLipGloss 8 років тому +14

    your new growth looks pretty straight already, how do you know where it ends sothat you dont overlap? i have very thick new growth and lightly flat ironing would be so helpful with the application process but i dont want to overlap

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому +7

      So I normally stretch my relaxers the same amount of time each time, and it grows about an inch and half. My new growth looks straight in the video because I flat ironed it a few days before just to make the process a bit easier lol... I dont leave my relaxer in long either so I don't really worry about overlap.

    • @IcedLipGloss
      @IcedLipGloss 8 років тому

      ESSNTL thank you! how long do you typically leave the relaxer on for a texlaxed look?

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому +15

      I normally leave it on less than 15 minutes and that includes application time. I put the relaxer in, smooth it out, and rinse it out immediately. I don't let it sit.

    i love your video segments of the channel. I am deciding on going to relaxed from natural. i have been natural for about 6 years now, but natural doesn't equal healthy hair. My hair is very damaged, and i feel like i can better manage and put the needed care into a relaxed state. So, I initially posted this comment, asking how often you wash, but i read in another comment where you answered it. Thanks Aaliyah! (i hope I spelled your name right )

    I have a question. What's the point of the relaxer if you flat iron it anyways? Sorry I have zero info about relaxers. I'm from Dubai.

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому +23

      Good question! So if I didn't have a relaxer, my hair would not be this straight even with a flat iron. It would poof up and go right back curly as soon I hit any type of humidity. The relaxer actually straightens out my natural hair texture and makes it stay straight for a longer period of time.

    Hey girl. I have a question. My hair is straighter from the roots to the middle of my hair strands, but becomes more frizzy and texturized towards the ends. I kinda hate the two different textures and was wondering what I should do about that/how to fix it when self relaxing (which I have never done before, but will probably have to do because of quarantine).

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому

      to be honest, I never really time it. I just make sure I wash it out almost immediately after applying it. If I had to guess, my process time after application is about 3 minutes, if that much at all!

    Definitely had to subscribe after seeing your videos! Your so beautiful. Question.... You mentioned you air dry your hair. That must take hourrrrsss. I hear alot of women use this method.
    How long does it take your hair to fully air dry? Do you ever use a blow dryer?

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому

      +Kitti G hi, thank you for watching and subscribing! It really doesn't take that long to airdry, maybe about 2 hours. I never fully air dry, I just air dry until its mostly dry (sometimes the roots in the middle of my head are still a little damp). After I air dry, I blow dry my hair to detangle and straighten it out. Since my hair is already mostly dry by the time I do this, it doesn't require much heat from the blow dryer to finish the job.

    Hi I've been natural all my life and I'm going to relax my hair in a month (I am clueless as you can imagine). How often do you wash relaxed hair and can I tell my stylist that I don't want to leave the relaxer on for that long? like I want my hair the way you have yours (I two have really thick hair). Sorry to bother you but I'll be relaxing soon so I'm really hoping you or someone else will answer me in less than a month 😊

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому

      +Kay Bee hi and thanks for watching! I personally wash and deep condition my relaxed hair once a week. If I'm busy or have a lot going on, I'll do it once every two weeks. But I never go longer than two weeks without washing/conditioning my hair. Yes, you can tell your stylist to "texlax" your hair instead of letting the relaxer completely process-- this will help avoid over processing. I will try to record a complete relaxed hair care routine in the near future lol

    I use the same relaxer and I never leave it in my hair either. I've been trying to grow my hair for years but it just keeps breaking. I think it's because I don't use a good moisturizer in my hair and don't condition enough. Do you have a moisturizer you recommend? I've tried Shea moisture already and my hair just stayed dry no matter how many times I moisturize. And the others had mineral oil in it which makes my hair too greasy

      my hair is 4c and it's a rebel as well, I am relaxed and believe me the best thing is to stretch out your relaxers and when u relax again just do your new growth and less processing time (just like her) for thickness use biotin and collagen shampoo and conditioner OMG that helped me so much when my hair was breaking cause of relaxing so much in such a sort period of time Arghh. now I'm 3 months without relaxing my hair and I see growth, deep conditioning and hot oil treatment is a must, protective styles is also a must. 4c relaxed hair can grow if taken care of and she inspires me so much cause my hair texture is similar to hers and I am 4c.

    Your hair is so nice and thick! lol i got a relaxer once when I was younger and my entire hair broke off bc it was too strong. I get the Japanese hair straightening thing now and my hair is so straight and long. I just wish my hair was as thick as yours labziabaj

  • @cairegrigsby7682
    @cairegrigsby7682 8 років тому

    I'm natural and I wanna relax my hair, when I relax it (for the first time) should I relax all of my hair (the entire stand) ? It only the roots ?

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому

      If it is your first time getting a relaxer, you will need to relax the entire hair shaft (from the root all the way to the end). After that, you only relax the new growth.

    Great job however you did overlap your perm onto the old perm. I recommend you put petroleum on the old parts of your hair before you relax. It may work for you now without the petroleum but over time that hair will begin to break. Gorgeous hair!!! I believe the no heat has been saving you from breakage bc of the overlapping of the perm.

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  9 років тому +6

      +Sassy Moi I actually used to use petroleum to protect my edges and already-processed hair but my hair is extremely thick and doing that would often leave my hair underprocessed where the relaxer wouldn't even take. This method has been working well for me. Although I do encourage others to take proper precaution when relaxing their own hair. My way is only one way to do it. Thanks for your feedback!

    Hi you say you straighten your hair every wash cycle, does that mean you straighten it every week?

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому +1

      +Alison Sherrene yes but not exactly... sometimes I get lazy and wash my hair every two weeks instead of every week-- and I still won't flat iron again until the next wash cycle. Also there are times when I will let my hair air dry and style it without straightening it (like braid outs, flexi rods, or perm rods). I hope this answers your question!

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому

      +mssherceo yes I do switch up my relaxer sometimes just to try different products. I will have an updated relaxer routine coming soon! And I don't really care for ORS relaxer because I don't like the way my hair feels afterward-- compared to other relaxers I've used.

    doesn't the back get processed more because you applied there first? This was what always confused me about relaxers

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому

      +BeHappy good question! Yes, but I also rinse out my hair in the order I applied to relaxer. So I rinse out the back sections first. I try to make sure each section of hair receives the same amount of processing time but 1-2 minutes doesn't make too much of a difference.

      meoshijgoogle when I deep condition, I pay very close attention to my roots. That is the key for managing new growth while stretching the relaxing period.

    I am just curious but why would you not put the relaxer on all of your hair

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому +1

      +Shakirah Brown good question! So I only put the relaxer on my new growth because the rest of my hair has already been relaxed before and I do not want to over process it. The only time you should ever put the relaxer all the way down to the ends of my hair is if you are 100% natural (never received a relaxer before) and are relaxing your hair for the first time ever.
      If you get relaxers regularly and you put the relaxer on all of your hair, you can overprocess your hair and cause serious breakage and damage.

      I don't blow dry because it is very stressful on relaxed hair.

    question is it safe on your hair to continue to relax and dye your hair???

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому

      Depends on what type of dye you use. I personally have never permanently dyed my hair. I've always used a rinse or henna.

    • @tabbywilliams2606
      @tabbywilliams2606 8 років тому

      It's a permanent dye

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому +1

      you're definitely right, but henna basically coats the hair instead of actually chemically processing it and it fades over time so it doesn't fit under "my definition" of permanent lol.... I normally use it as a conditioning treatment and just use it to color my hair as a bonus feature lol

    • @tabbywilliams2606
      @tabbywilliams2606 8 років тому

      Lol ook , I was answering your question when you said it depends on the dye... , but I have a permanent dye currently in my hair but for some reason my ends seems a little dry and I experience shedding and Idk what to do to prevent it, I use a leave in conditioner daily and I use some oils not much but (I hate for my hair to feel heavy) nothing seems to help so I though it was because the dye and the relaxer

    • @ESSNTL
      @ESSNTL  8 років тому +1

      That probably is the reason. How often do you deep condition? And how often do you use heat? I would try to nurse the hair back to optimum health by deep conditioning every week and keep heat off of it as much as possible. Deep conditioning is good for moisture without having to use a lot of oils. I hate heavy hair too lol
