    Seun, a woman moving her hands and touching her hair is a sign of femininity in just about every country on earth. Some folks, yes black folks, are uncomfortable seeing a Black woman express her femininity by playing with her hair. Thus you see the myriad of baseless complaints here. These folks want you to portray a "strong" black woman instead of the gorgeous, young lady you are who is having fun and enjoying her hair. They've said everything from it's against the Bible to worship your hair to it being you manipulating your hair and a bunch of other nonsense. You know that most of that is jealousy right? Flip your hair, swing it, shake it, touch it. You grew it and it belongs to you,dear. They dont get mad at Becky for touching her hair every 5 seconds, but it is weird to them to see a Black woman proud of her hair. Don't change who you are for others. You're wonderful just the way you are!

    She is just expressive and excited about presenting her knowledge. The people complaining probably can’t grow their hair for the fact,that they always focused on things have nothing to do with retaining hair, let alone length. Lol,ironically these same critics go and waste time standing in line, consuming gas to spend tons of money on hair extensions coming from people sacrificing their hair to gods and they complain about the price. If they complained more than they educated themselves about growing
    hair, this young lady wouldn’t have so many Korean clients as critics.

    There are many factors that stunts hair growth. Not eating properly, prescribed medications, illnesses and diseases, stress and your genetics. So it doesn't matter what you put on your hair if your inner health is down it does affects your hair growth and texture too. Eating your fruits and vegetables, oily fish, grass fed meats, drinking water, daily exercise, getting lots of rest, cutting down stress last but not least covering your hair before going to bed and using natural oils that agrees with your hair greatly helps.

    • @delicatedominance
      @delicatedominance 7 років тому +42

      it does matter what you put on your hair. I have epilepsy and have to take a lot of medication, I have for years. it helps to eat healthy but you also need to KNOW your hair and treat it from the outside as well. balancing protein and moisture is also very important. I have managed to grow my hair to my tailbone by paying attention to both, but if I'm being honest when I changed what I did on the outside I saw results quicker. this is also just speaking from my experience. I am also relaxed.

      Jon C She doesn't have genetically long hair. Black People seriously need to stop using this cop-out. If she did, she'd have to be getting a relaxer done every 2- 3 weeks. Have you ever met anyone whose hair grows so fast they have to get touchups every 3 weeks?? Human hair (white, asian AND african) grows at the same rate for the most part, with very little individual genetic variation. She does a better job at _retaining_ the length she grows - which is the same length *you* grow; which is the same length *I* grow- and that comes from knowledge and care NOT genetics.

    • @SilverScreenDreamer
      @SilverScreenDreamer 6 років тому +17

      I always thought my hair grew slowly and wouldn’t get past a certain length, until I realized that it was more a matter of me having to cut my new growth almost as quickly as it grew. I’ve spent the past year and a half trying to figure out how to stop my hair from thinning on the ends or at least slow it down. The changes I’ve made include: moisturizing daily or every other day, stretching my relaxer (went from every 6 weeks to every 10-12), wearing my hair in a bun daily as a protective style, and most importantly, cutting way back on daily manipulation. I feel like that last one is what has truly made the difference for me. I stopped using combs and brushes, and now I just gently finger comb when I moisturize or style it. Oh and I sleep on a satin or silk pillow case, so I don’t have to wrap it anymore (too much manipulation required). I think by the end of this year, I should finally be close to my goal length (bra strap).

      I can only speak for myself, I had to cut because it was in a weakened state. As soon as I would stretch the relaxer, it would break too easily and lead to shorter hair. Very frustrating if you put in all this work to grow it. I also like color and maintaining both relaxed and colored hair is very challenging. Had to transition and braid it up. Leave it alone and less heat..leads to more length and stronger hair in my opinion.

Wearing it straight every once and a while keeps it an exciting and interesting style. That's probably why she's touching it so much. I only straighten my hair like 2-3x a year. In my opinion, natural hair is so hard to maintain. I've done both in my life. When my hair was relaxed, it was always, short, dry, damaged, thin and brittle. When My hair was natural, it grew so fast and was so long. I had little to no breakage. It was thick and healthy and I loved it, but for me, personalty it was just too difficult for me to maintain. I'm thinking about cutting mine too, I accidentally used a stronger relaxer on my hair and a lot of it came out leaving my crown very short and the rest of hair different lengths; (some long, some shorter. ) I'm still debating exactly what I want to do. I wish there was some sort of happy medium. Years ago all I wore was weave, because I didn't have to do much to it. Just mainly get up and go, but I've been exploring other options. My hair is naturally dry so that is one of the biggest problems for me. I know I am supposed to oil moisturize and condition daily, but even that sometimes begins to be a bit too much.

    I saw that you said natural products haven't worked for you. I use 5 large carrots shredded into a pan, 1 over ripe or soft large avocado smashed into the carrots and add 2 1/2 C of extra virgin olive oil. Cook on simmer for 20mins without a lid.. Strain ONLY the liquid. My hair is SUPER dry but not anymore.. It also made my hair grow and finally keeping its length. I do my own box braids. I also use rice water to wash my hair. I put Vicks on my edges to grow, learned from my dermatologist, it WORKS!!

      denise mitchell - Exactly. I think black people (I'm black) are being brainwashed into thinking that they have to do what every other black person does. We're all individuals so the natural hair movement should shut up and go and watch natural hair movement videos instead of relaxed hair videos. Black people should empower and encourage each other to be individuals, just like every other race does!!!

      I’m a black woman with natural hair but I watch her videos because she has some very good tips on hair protection.....and you’re right there is nothing wrong with black women straightening their hair. However I would advice to be mindful of the brand being used because some of their formulas can lead to health issues such as fibroids. But being cautious of the products also goes for the natural girls because many of these companies use harmful chemicals in their formulas.

    Relaxer is best done every 8 weeks,sometimes waiting too long causes breakage,all relaxer isn't sodium hydroxide and it does matter because lithium hydroxide cannot be used on a head that was previously relaxes by calcium hydroxid,please be careful with the info you are spreading,no wonder so many women walk into the salon with damaged hair because they gone crazy with UA-cam tutorials and a lot of them send wrong info

      Sherry Ann Todd. All you need is a good stay in conditioner like fermadol to keep the new growth for breaking from the perm. It's the ph balance that's in the stay in product
      My hair is about her length. I don't get perms any longer but I use to do them 6months at a time and uses the ph stay in conditioner. F.Y.I

      @tliw2 5 років тому +3

      Sherry Ann Todd you're right that waiting too long between relaxers isn't good for the health of your hair, but there are too many variables to state 8 weeks as a hard and fast rule. How often you relax depends on how quickly your hair grows (some people have more new growth than others at 8 weeks), how thick it is (thicker hair can be more forgiving of longer stretch times, because it tends to be stronger), how well you condition/moisturize (the healthier your hair, the more likely you can stretch it past the 8 weeks), how long you leave relaxer in when you do relax, what #type of hair you have (I have 4c but it's wavy, not super tight-- it doesn't draw up as much as some 4c hair. If my hair were tighter I'd have even more difference between my relaxed and unrelaxed hair making the meeting point even weaker)... I sometimes relax at 8 weeks. I have stretched to 12/13 weeks without noticeable damage. 10 weeks is probably my "sweet spot".

    Seun, I had followed one of your crocheting tutorials when I had shoulder length hair and was very happy with my diy results. Since then I have done some pretty extreem things to my hair over the years. Once the damage was done I broke down and got the "big chop". My hair is now long enough for protective styles so I went with box braids by African braiding hands. Needless to say, the first 2 nights I had to sleep on my face because my hair was so tight and everything(even turning my head) hurt so bad. And YAAAS! So far my edges are the first to go and I have not had these braids in for a whole week yet. Had I known then what I know now. I have found you video's to be SUPER informative and educational. This time around I have subscribed and liked/loved. This is only the begining for my hair. I surely don't want it to be end because of these braids. From now on I plan to use the information you have provided to guide me on how to treat my hair as I continue on my journey to growth. Thank you so so much for keeping it real, and for putting in the work to make these videos for us women who take growing and caring for our hair very serious.
    ❤Much Love and Respect🙏

    I just got my first Sew in "professionally"for the first time in March... I couldnt WAIT to take it out! I used RAW hair had a closure as well. I also used a net. My braids were FAR from tight. I got a deep conditioning and trim before the braids were done & washed my sew-in every 2 weeks. I HATED my first weave experience. Why? I took my sew-in out after 1 month and a week. I tried to wait the full 2 months but just couldnt. It itched and I had so much shedding and breakage and swollen sores in my scalp after the takedown. I have coarse kinky thick healthy hair and to see the thin limp breakage was horrid. So now, im nursing it back to health with Castor oil and Amla oil & crochet braids(luv these). I believe the breakage & sores came from scratching the net onto my scalp. I almost forbid sew-ins after that experience but... Im ginna try again cause I did have some growth. Next time... im doing it myself and NO NET!

    Lovely hair. I’m natural but this is similar to how I grew my hair a little bit longer than where I had previously plateaued. As little manipulation as possible! And I quit hair dressers entirely, not just the African braiders. I realized they were all ripping out my hair. I remember cringing as one braider combed my dry hair with a small fine tooth comb. I remember thinking, “this can’t be the right way to handle my hair” but at the same time I trusted the women doing my hair as trained and knowledgeable professionals. Took my while to learn they really don’t care about your hair at all. Especially if you’re natural with 4C. It takes a lot of work and patience to handle natural hair delicately. I learned how to do my own protective styling (mostly braids and wigs) But honestly my hair is sooo much work JUST to wear protective styles 95% of the time. Too much work for me. I totally understand you thinking about shaving your head. Im really considering ending all this insanity and freeing up my life by getting Sisterlocks. My consultation is early next year. Good luck with your hair goals!

    Tips:.relax using mild blow out rather than perm relaxer. That's the trick to protect hair from damage from relaxers.
    Also, the fewer the products you use, the better. I see many people having over 8 bottles of product for their hair! Why? Oh, one is for moisture then blase blase blase. Just have organic shampoo, conditioner, sun screen or spray and hair oil. Stop with the extra stuff. You just weigh your hair down.
    General tip: use spices with an oil base as your hair oil.
    Good advise Seun!

    I disagree protective styles do not grow your hair, it helps you retain length. Additionally not everyone can wear protective styles and have success with length retention. After a while some people's hair will start to thin out and break.

      Yes, at the beginning of this video I tried to make it clear that the problem that we're trying to solve isn't that our hair isn't growing, but that our hair isn't retaining length. Protective styles work wonders for me, but I understand that everyone is different(:

    I remember when I first got my relaxer in 2003 my hair grew at least two and a half to three inches and it was growing very long probably like yours now and then all of a sudden after 2 years no I'm sorry 3 years after my hair was very long every time I went in every two weeks my beautician was cutting on my hair I didn't say anything the first two times because my hair was long and I thought that what she was trying to do you know keep up with my hair but she kept on cutting and I was going in every two weeks to get my hair washed and conditioned and all of a sudden my hair was cut in layers in the bottom in the middle just cut and when I went home my daughter noticed it because I always get my relaxer and then put it in a ponytail and come home my hair was so damaged I really wanted to go back up there to that salon and just you know but the holy spirit said no so what I did I cried for a little while my husband came home from work I showed him my hair he told me to go back and get my money I said forget about it I went to another stylist what she wanted to do is cut it all off so I can start over I told her no just finish it up you can trim it but just finish it up and she did that but every time I wanted to go to her she just wanted to cut it so what I start doing is trying to find a beautician that really cared about my hair and the condition of my hair low and behold this woman at the church that I went to introduce me to her stylist and her name was Kathy and she mended my hair I was with her for one year she did trim it a little bit to even it out but she said if she were to even it out how my hair would have been up to my ears so it was at my neck and the rest of it came she the one introduced me to oil and telling me to deep condition used deep conditioners keep my hair moisturized keep my hair up and not on my shoulders because it may break so after a year I told her that I can do these things myself at home and that's when I started doing my own relaxers and this was back in 2010 and ever since then I start doing my own and my hair is healthy it's growing I wish you can visit my channel and see from beginning up until now LOL but my hair is healthy and it is growing so my daughter's do my relaxer and what I've learned from the last beautician and other UA-camrs that I watch like yourself my hair is healthy thank you so much God bless🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷🍃🌷😙

      Wow. I love that we as black women all have a story to tell about our hair. It's so interesting to learn about stories like yours. Good luck with continuing to grow your hair long!

    I think your hair is VERY PRETTY.. hope you don't cut it off.. but... it's your hair .. for sure you'll know how to grow it out again.. and as far as your hand movement..BIG DEAL.. I think you're just illustrating how long and fluffy and pretty your hair is ... nothing wrong with that.. God bless :) stay true to yourself.

    Me looking at her manupilating her hair, I understand now the need of protective style. We love to touch our hair, it's a natural habit. Thanks for the advices

      The picture I showed was from. 2013, but it stayed that length for a while. I would say that the majority of my growth occurred over the course of three years

    Very nicely done video. Had a friend do my relaxer who insisted on pulling it thru 3x even with me saying "Ok, don't pull it thru on already relaxed hair!" Next, decided 2 do my own JUST 4 ME relaxer & didn't want 2 leave it in 2 long. So now I have nappy roots, overly straight rest of the hair, hair snapping off mid-way the length, losing hair even when I sneeze-I just want 2 run away! 😢 BUT... age makes a difference 2. Wen I was your age my harmonies were still alive, wouldn't miss a day of taking my vitamins. Got on Collagen 3 weeks ago & made an appt @ a salon 4 nxt week-prayers please... ❤
