@@janicetillman6044 that’s a common misconception. It’s not the dirt that helps hair to grow, it’s the lack of manipulation for 6 months at a time. Basically if your hands aren’t in your hair all the time, there’s less breakage. Less breakage = length retention 🤗 💕

I just go to Fantastic Sams and get mine trimmed. I've gone to other places too like Great Clips. I only get my hair trimmed when I have flat ironed it. Cutting while it's straight gives the best consistent and even result. I just tell them that they must dry their cutting comb first (if it was sitting in barbicide) so it won't cause my hair to revert. I go to the same stylist now so she already knows.

Im.like short healthy hair looks way better than long ragamuffin hair I tell people my hair is long and healthy because I get my trims every 12 weeks I might do 4 months here and there but so important to get the ends do less needs to be off every time

I’ve been my own stylist for years, relaxing (2X yr), color & trimming. People didn’t believe it, but you said it best, “it can be done.” Quarantine has forced girls to become more knowledgeable about self care & beauty upkeep at home. I think it’s a good thing, besides the money savings you become more self sufficient & not so reliant on others. No shade on professional stylists but choosing to go as a treat to yourself vs going because you have to makes the difference.

Every time I need to trim my hair I come back here and rewatch this tutorial. My last trim was my BEST one yet. With your instructions fresh in mind, I'd say it took me about 10 minutes maximum, to trim my own hair. If I haven't already thanked you, please accept many many thanks from me. Your video is the best explaining how simple it can be. But I also feel like you remind me which part might be a little bit of challenge. I don't expect perfection (it's a self hair cut on 'shmedium' length hair🤷🏾‍♀️) but the results always seem to surpass my expectations. I'm always well prepared after watching this tutorial. My next trim is coming up soon and I'm trying not to be scissor happy but ngl, I am actually looking forward to it.

Love your videos, just to let you know, if you are on a plant based diet, I can tell you what's going on with your hair. I went through the same thing. You need to up your Iron intake. My doc told me that most Vegetarians, Vegans etc can become anemic which causes shedding, drying or breaking off of hair. I started taking black strap molasses in my smoothies, also beets are great in iron. I have noticed a difference in about 2 weeks. try and see if that works for you.

I experienced similar reactions when going plant based. Excessive shedding, texture changes, thinning, dryness; it just wasn’t my easy going, full, healthy hair anymore. It was actually depressing. After several blood tests, a vitamin D3 deficiency was found. My hair changes were severe and I couldn’t figure it out. When I went to the doctor and told her my symptoms, the first thing she asked was if I was a vegan or vegetarian. She immediately connected the dots to my diet. She stated it is imperative when going plant based to supplement with B12, Iron and vitamin D3!! After 3 different Vitamin D tests in over 12 months, I’m finally back within normal range, I’m on the low end, but its an improvement. The shedding has stopped and the new growth is coming in.

I took matters into my own hands (pun intended) and cut my own hair today after watching a plethora of your videos. My hair looks and feels amazing! I cut quite a bit off because my hair had not been trimmed in a great many years. Your mantra about there being no point in having length if your hair isn't healthy really spoke to me! My hair has amazing bounce and has so much volume! You are a hair Goddess and your videos are so peaceful and relaxing to watch. Thank you for helping me connect with my hair. My mother, (God rest her beautiful soul) was a white woman she never touched my hair. She seemed intimidated by it so I grew up not knowing how to care for my hair. This was SO helpful!!!! My hair is 2a-2b, long length (atleast 20 inches), I didn't blow it out or straighten cause I don't use heat anymore and this still worked so well!!!!! I've been needing a good cut and using this method helped me achieve it in a half hour! I really appreciate the baby hair/nape hair cutting, after having a child my baby hairs GREW, to the point that they were too beginning to look frizzy no matter how much I used a soft brush or gel to get them down, so I'm excited to see the difference when I type my hair next 😁! I recommend anyone with good shears give it a try! Worst comes to worst your hair is healthier and it'll grow out soon enough! I look forward to cutting my own hair more in the future. Thank you so much! Your hair looked so beautiful by the end and that wrap method I've looked for, for so many years and I'm happy to find it again! So many blessings to you and your family. 🙏🏽❤️

I think this is one of the first videos I’ve commented on after following you for like two years almost. Just because I feel compelled to tell you I’ve not seen a full video of you doing your own hair before so, either I missed it, or there’s not one that I found personally. But you are so beautiful, your hair is gorgeous, and I love your educational prose. I really love your personality because you seem so chill, professional, knowledgeable, confident, and you love to share with our people, how we can do our hair sometimes ourselves, or how to go into a salon and know what we’re talking about and be educated on our own hair. I thank you for that. I thank you for your great work ethic and your due diligence. I think you’re very kind hearted and diplomatic when you speak on your videos doing A customers hair that especially when you’re dealing with sensitive customers who have hair conditions that create problems for their hair and scalps. You are going in the right direction in educating. I think because you always can do hair on the side when you feel like it but we need you as an educator. Especially for people who have alopecia and hair conditions like that and people who can’t go to the salon all of the time. You are all about healthy hair first versus the cosmetic look of it. You’re just so damn adorable. I have not seen this part of you; have not seen those beautiful lips and smile. I’ve not seen your hair taken care of from the trim all the way out. I love this video. God has you. I know God has all of us, but when you’re in especially good person… I believe that were more open to our blessings God has in store for us. Your hair does go through some things switching to a plant based diet. However, it will bounce back. I’m three years in, and my hair is healthier than ever. You got this girl!! 💪🏾🤞🏾

Just coming out of braids for the last 2 years, passively grow my hair quickly. It was all good til I got them too skinny and had to take them out 😫. I just used your video to trim my hair and I’m amazed that it was so easy and came out with salon quality. Saved myself a lot of money and took advantage of my straight hair with a fresh keratin treatment. You are beautiful and this video is amazing. Thank you so much!

I was like nooo don’t cut that much off. After I’m like “where can I get those scissors?” Your hair turned out beautifully. And I love love love your vibe. Your whole channel and the deeper than hair tag is so on point! It’s something about you for sure that sets you apart from All these other you tubers. Keep walking in your gift. And I was definitely waiting on this video. Thank you.

So glad to hear about you being plant based. I started 7 years ago and my hair thinned out. I went to a nutritionist and we realized I was vitamin D and B deficient and that I wasn't eating enough calories. After I took care of that, my hair is back to normal. It is also bleach processed and letting it get wet in the chlorinated pool water really dried it out which made the ends snap off easier.

It is not unusual to have dry thin ends in the winter time . Hats , ponytails & dryness It’s the part that touches your shoulders. Different fabrics rubbing against your ends. Protective styles and nightly conditioning your ends . And taking iron ( especially women) , you’ll see a difference in 3-6 months.

Yeah. My ends feel a little crunchy and I had a quite a few split ends (I search-and-destroyed them already), but they still curl up really well and spring back like healthy hair, and look about the same shade as my roots. My last real haircut was two and a half years ago (the big chop) and I have not trimmed, cut or dusted since then. (I actually went to my stylist a year ago and asked her to trim it, but she refused and said it still looked really good...)
I was gonna get rid of the last inch just to be safe, but maybe it's just the weather, and I should condition them every night and oil them up every morning. As long as I still see my curls on my ends snap back I still count it as "good hair".
For me, my hair growth secret is to just not do too much. No direct heat (I use a dryer bonnet attachment on low to set my clear hair dye or dry my twists), not overshampooing or layering it with drying products like gels, oiling it like once a week. For someone with extra curly afro hair, they would certainly have to tweak my advice though. Cheers!

Thank you! I found this when I was so frustrated after a stylist told me they would charge $120 to do this- because they charge according to hair thickness . It came out so beautifully and it was such a healing moment for me. I got to appreciate my hair texture. God bless you ❤️

charging according to hair thickness sounds like theft :/ like that's not even in your control..?

My hair started falling out when I went mostly plant base too, never thought it was connected. Thanks for that insight. I cut my thin ends off and it Looks so great now. But now the grays are coming in haha

@C S No going plant based is hard, because most will start to lack vitamins that they would get naturally from meat that is crucial to the hair, skin, and nails. People should always look into taking the vitamins that they are going to lack from going plant based.

I am so great full for you. I tried this and my hair came out amazing and it had so much more weight, my hair is fine and because or harmonies and stress I have been loosing hair, gaining weight etc . But this video gave me so much more confidence. I styled my hair with a few layers for body , but omgg, my family thought I had clip ins lol. Thank you so much . It's just so genuine and we need more people who can help us like this. I love you , keep shining 🎉

Thank you! This is hands down the best hair cutting video I have seen and my go to. Using your techniques as a guide, I have been maintaining and regrowing my hair with ease. I gave myself a gorgeous haircut this last time. My teenage son walked in after I styled my hair and said it was cool. Then he came back and said, “Man, Mom! That’s really pretty!” If he digs it, I know I did a good job.
