As an American of British descent, I have viewing this for the first time upon the occasion of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. In my 74th year I am brought to tears as the world celebrate such a gracious and mourns the death of this steadfast Lady who honored her oath and commitment to her nation. May all people seeking peace follow her example. Rest in Peach, your Majesty!

As a Portuguese, I have to say, I will happily join my British brothers in the field of battle, while singing A Portuguesa (Portuguese anthem), I'll have God save the Queen (or the King, it depends) in my heart. And while we march at the beat of the British Grenadiers, we shall crush all our enemies - for noone can ever stand against the oldest alliance in the history of mankind! Britannia and Lusitania forever!

They were in that game long before we were, and I really salute them for it.

Throughout the last night of the Proms you get grandiose songs like Rule Britannia, spiritual hymns like Jerusalem, the nation's anthem: God Save the Queen and patriotic fervor through Land of Hope and Glory.
All of these make me smile, tear up and want to raise a Union Flag and sing till my throat bleeds raw.
But what really gets me is at the end. When the whole audience stands and sings Auld Lang Syne to the orchestra. Gives me the shivers every time.

Let's face it: all Western democracies are being undermined by a fashionable kind of thinking, called politically correct thinking.
It is very simple to see what that boils down to;´´ WE, Westerners are NO good, our way of thinking has never been alright. Our influence in the world has been destructive. We should be ashamed of ourselves, so we have to give way to a healthy kind of self hatred., for we have NO reason to be proud of ourselves. We are GUILTY of incredible crimes.´´
This is the very reason that the leaders of the western countries allow waves of non-Western immigrants to enter the western world and what strikes me is that those who were born in these countries and whose ancesters were born there, too, are expected to adapt themselves to the newcomers.
This is too stupid for words, for in case of migration those who are newcomers will have to adapt to the way of life that has gor shape there throughout time!
That is the way it should be and NOT the other way around.
We are apparently suppose to forget that everything that is considered to be very positive in the world stems from ideas that came from the West! from OUR societies!
We, Westerners, shaped the concept of freedom, tolerance, science ,human relations in the world.
All societies that adapted the Western concept of life are prosperous now and good places to live in.
So we, Westerners, have every reason to be proud of ourselves, proud of our culture, achievements and history.
That is why I fight politically correct thinkers all the way and that is why I think that the population of every Western country have to wake up again and never give up theit identity.
That is why I, a Dutch person who loves the UK, think that the British people fight for their identity again. They defended freedom in the second WorldWar, too.
That is why I like the songs that inspired them and that they still sing
We should never submit to those who want to take our pride and freedom away.

    • @19Freedom41
      @19Freedom41 10 років тому +10

What you say sounds reasonable enough, ukyorkie and I think that not only the UK should leave the dictatorial EU, but the Netherlands should do that as well and work together with the Brits.
I really think that this could be the beginning of creating a new group of independent countries that work together in a free trade zone.
I use the word dictatorial on purpose since ""Brussels'' tends to meddle with things that are just not their business.
I do not like people or organisations that tell me what to think, how to behave and worst of all :who are inclined to kerb our freedom of speech!
I love freedom and definitely my country, since we have always enjoyed an incredible amount of freedom in every possible way, which de EU clearly intends to take away from us.

That is very sad - if patriotism in Germany has been abandoned to extremists, then it must be reclaimed without delay as we did in England a decade or so ago when we took St George's flag off the extremists.

Gordon Smith it’s sad.. if I were German, which I am not, I would be proud of my country’s achievements, what other country has been able to take over 90% of Europe in such a small period of time with such little problems, call me a Nazi or whatever but that.. that is quite something
Let alone a country which had been absolutely demolished by ww1 and the aftermath which was the treaty of Versailles, a country which went from being a crumbling mess with no hope to one of the worlds leading world powers in a few years..
This is what the European Union does now, take away a proud mans patriotism.. so sad.
God save Germany and give my German brothers hope, the best friends

Germany is a continental county with a history that informs the present.
Long land borders that required large standing armies, 'strong' central governments (ie absolute monarchies) - power from the top.
The UK has had a very different historical experience. In the modern era an absolute church and an absolute monarchy were both swept aside.
It's this difference that has made the continental countries more easily fit the 'top down' model of the EU and the discomfort with which that pattern is viewed in the UK.

Of course you can wave a German flag! European Unity and free movement via the EU and EEA means that there are loads of Germans and other Europeans living in London. If you bother to bring your national flag and wave it at the proms, I think we probably assume it's a bit of declaration of unity - of course our European and Commonwealth partners do this, plus the rebel USA : ) -- but we welcome it from any sovereign country that can say they pay their respects to the UK. We return the sentiment.

As an American who spent 10 years in the 60s and 70s living in England I learned how to sing God Save the Queen first long before I learned how to say God bless America. As an American I am so jealous when I looked at the young faces and old mixed together in this wonderful song dedicated to their loyalty to Britain and her Queen. It saddens me though when I see in my own home country of the United States where teachers and professors have taught to Generations yes to whole Generations to refuse to sing their own national anthem to refuse to say any words of Prayer religious freedom and in fact teach young children in America to hate their own country hey this is what our education system and our political system of extremism and left-wing politics social communism in our school. How many American men died during World War II so that you have could be free an American could stay free but America has forgotten the soldiers and what they stood for. I hope both of us Americans who love this country will prevail and I honor England youth for standing by their motherland God bless the queen

Of course, the melody to the National Anthem is unsingable so most people don't even try, although in the interest of full disclosure, once I graduated from high school, I was embarrassed to realize that after four years of playing in the marching band, I had forgotten the words because the only place where the anthem is sung if before football games, and I always had a clarinet in my mouth
