That was my mistake when i had the xbox one s i got the 8tb hub and realiae wtf do i need so much i literally only needed less than 2 tb of games i filled the entire 8tb but rarely played more than 8 games at a time so i learned my lesson im just using my series x and the 1 tb additionals seagate expansion card and thats it thats all i need if i get an external drive ill get an ssd and that will be for the normal xbox games. Ill only out the x/s optimized games in the seagate expansion card oe internal series x storage
@@mtbeb5414 The series x still uses the USB-A ports which are caped out at 5Gbps so any SSD around that speed is fine don't waste your money on something that is faster.
It really isn’t in stock everywhere. It’s easier to find compared to the PS5 but you still have to do quite a bit of digging. The average person trying to save Christmas for their kid, absolutely isn’t going to know how to navigate these waters.
BTW, you missed 1 very important point for the card. Not only it's hot swapable but it’s also not tied to one console. You can take it out and insert it on a friend (or second) Xbox and play the game right from the card. That is an awesome feature and well worth it.

Interestingly the internal SSD is actually a M.2 form factor and will probably be unofficially upgradable as soon as modders figure out the partition scheme.

Assuming that you are currently working, how long would it take you to earn $220 to spare aside from paying bills, rent, etc? It should take you no more than 2-4 weeks at the most. Waiting a year or more for this card to drop $50-$100 when you could've come up with that amount within a month doesn't make much sense. If you really WANT the card, then buy it now if you have the money.

@Hallison Michel There isnt a SSD out there that can go even a third of the XBox drive. SSD's run on Sata 3 which tops out at 600 MB/s. The XBox also uses an NVME controller, SSD's dont need fast controllers. It's speed is held back by the lack of DRAM on the card itself.

Very excited for this. Load times are the main thing I care about when gaming. So many mind blowing advancements in technology that 10 year old me couldn't have imagined, but didn't think load times would get mostly WORSE over time. Can't wait to play old gen stuff that gets supported.
A memory card is a storage solution to allow a game to remember where you left off. It has that as it's specific task. An expansion card is a reference to laptops of the 90s that were exceptionally similar in design. Calling it a memory card is a much more recent term for a fundamentally different product.
Yeah Def, Sony isn't even doing it, and one TB NVME's are really expensive too. PLENTY of people only had 1TB with Xbox One and PS4 and weren't bitching before. Not every game is like Call of Duty, Cyberpunk is only 75gb

Wouldn’t it be something for physical collectors if memory card versions of games could be released rather than having to install from a disc. You could have say 100gig card with the game and space for future updates. Possibly some artwork on the physical card. I know it probably wouldn’t be cost effective but I bet it would sell if released in limited quantities.
That would be so expensive, but a cool idea and collectors would be on it. This reminds of the cartridge days, specifically N64 😆. Those games were crazy expensive when the system launched and it pretty much remained that way for the lifespan of the console.

if you all think about it, Hard disk drive expansions were basically memory card expansions except with the ability to also store games on them at the cost of being large, bulky, and a pain to insert and remove. Now we have gone to SSD's which are much more smaller. memory cards have never gone away, they just evolved and now have come back full circle.
1tb of gen 4 pcie are 200 to 250. price drop will happen during a sale but that is about it. MS is not over charging you for it and the price is in fact inline with good quality SSD. 980 pro is 230$ for example.

If it goes down in price, then you will have to work less hours to purchase it. Some people don’t care enough for it to need it now, and spend that amount of time earning for it.

Thank you for clearing this up! For the high price, and only 1TB, I would rather use the cheaper external hard drive at half the price and 4TB. I don't play a ton of games at once, so if I have to move my games over to internal storage that's fine. I don't mind the longer wait at all. It's only a few minutes.
The only problem is that games specifically for the series x/s is only playable from the ssd/expansion card, you can’t save or install series x/s games on a normal external hard drive. However you can save and play older games from there.

I'm going to hold out until the SSDs come down in price before I get one for my Series X. At the moment I'm currently using a 4TB external HDD. I think Microsoft were very smart giving people multiple storage options right out the gate for the Series S/X. Whereas Sony fell a little short, no pun intended.
For now I am using my xbox one x as my "memory card." In case you didn't know, you can enable network transfers between local xbox consoles. Saved me from having to redownload a lot of stuff, and much faster too!
got one at launch and dont regret it whatsoever. i've got games from 4 generations on my series x with plenty of room to spare, and it works just as advertised speed wise.
It's this high of a price, no, they are not worth it. I'd be buying a second 1Tb series x for 500$ before I'd ever buy a 2 Tb memory card for 100$ less. This is insane..
I bought one with my release day Series X direct from MS. Well worth it. Expensive, possibly, but I bought my X and this card using gift cards that I bought at a discount so saved ~60 on the total anyway.
that memory card is arround the price for a regular nvme 4.0, i don't think they can make a 2tb one with the same transfer speed for that price, at least not for now, maybe in some years if that spec turns to be standard prices will drop
Hopefully in the next 2-5 years we can get an upgraded version from a 1TB to a 3 or 4TB option. The Memory card is optional, but having most of your gaming libary on your system with the ability to quick play to other games from XBOX, 360, ONE, Series X/S is pretty nice. I'll wait to see.
This is a great piece of tech. No doubt about it. The price is high tho. Those of us on PC this stuff is expensive. I still believe there will be more options soon.

Im hoping there will be an adapter for the expansion slot on the series X/S that you can slot an NVMe into at some stage and just format it into the velocity format.(or whatever is required lol)

I don't get it how you're speaking as if it's a bad thing that they have to test the SSD and give the green light, this is to ensure optimum performance. At least they aren't trying to monopolize the market like microsoft. Imagine paying for a console whose only redeeming quality was marketed to be its processing power yet it performs worse in virtually every game and forces people to play last gen games since it doesn't have any new ones

I honestly don’t see prices going down unless they include less storage. It’s not a menorah card, it’s fast, flash storage that they have to make a special housing for. Nvme drives aren’t cheap, biggest difference for the drives on Ps5 is they’re (supposed to be) faster for the same price as this Seagate model.
In 6 months - years time when the cost comes down and/or they make a 2 tb (or more) one they'll for sure be worth it. Right now, I dunno. Probably better off just getting an external ssd.
Well to me it can save whole game only if you have the game digitally, but if you have the game physical disc and want to bring your games to your friends house then you would only need to bring both card and physical game and also sign in your live account on your friend's xbox
I think for the price I stay with my 2TB HDD if I sacrifice just some minutes to play a game, it's worth against the high cost of the memory card. I don't see the point personally but still looks like a very nice option as well.
Good call with using stills such as the one at 6:55 for detail shots. Video can be hard to stabilize up close, so mixing the stills in was a great choice for giving us good looks at your subjects.

@@danp4722 that is not pricey for NVMe gen 4 SSD. Where I live the standard NVMe (non Xbox memory expansion) cost around 190 to 250 USD. So this expansion is around the same ballpark for 1TB NVMe gen 4.
It's definitely pricey. But not for what it actually is at all. If anything, it's almost a great deal. Especially considering how simple and easy it installs. At most it's maybe $20 more than most of the same level SSDs.
Got both the Series X and PS5, this expansion is a must have for the series X. The PS5 could use expandable memory yesterday and I installed like 4 games and was already down to my last 100. On the series X, I got more out of it because it starts with more space, but once I got this card I felt like I could breath when downloading some of my games
Don't get me wrong, it's nice to at least have some kind of expandable storage, but 1TB is a joke. I've filled my 8TB HDD in under a year and I'm not even subscribed to Gamepass.
I bought it. No regrets. Wanted to keep more games on hand, was tired of my slow af optical external HDD anyway, and just wanted to get 100% of the benefits, play Series X games off it and not just use it only for storage etc. Crazy how tiny the stick is.
It is THE ONLY option to play Xbox series X level games. With them taking 100Gb+, you fill up you internal SSD so fast. In reality, while technically you could use any good NVME SSD that is fast enough, Microsoft artificially limit us to only buy those. If you really want it, buy it at MS expense. Cancel your Ultimate GamePass for a year, and you will save enough for 1Tb version.
As someone who has a PS5, I wish Sony had a similar storage upgrade. The western digital NVME that is marketed to work for PS5 starts at $230 and you can’t even use it yet due to FW not being released yet with no eta. At least when a parent purchases the Xbox storage upgrade, they can simply pop it in the back slot. Imagine a parent having to install nvme into the PS5 after paying $230 only to find out that they also need a FW update? Xbox nailed the storage options. If you can’t afford a 1tb seagate, get whatever hdd/ssd you can afford. You will still have the ability to back up XSX games to avoid re-downloading them. Not to mention that you have to safely remove a external drive from a PS5 to avoid errors, while the XSX external drives are hot swappable. Love my PS5 but the storage implementation is a mess.

@@honex97 A 7200 RPM HDD has a 150MBps transfer speed. An external NVME SSD like the Sandisk extreme pro is rated at about 2000 MBps. It would take a hard drive about ten minutes to transfer 85 GB. The SSD would take about 70 seconds. Both will take a little longer in the real world.
Xbox is definitely killing it in that field. With my ps5 i have to open and install a ssd with a heatsink. But personally with how little i play now I’m fine with just using my old 5tb hdd and swapping things over when needed.
Be worth getting once the price for one reduces. Overpriced currently because it has that new factor on it. Give it time they’ll come way down in price. Or Seagate may announce a 2tb expansion card. Which personally I’d rather own.

For the Series S, I'd say it's a absolute necessity unless you have very few games. With only 364gb left after setup, it takes very little time to fill.

I have one loaded with most of my racing games and one for shooters and use the internal for my single player games im playing. so if anyone comes online to race or shoot, i chuck a card in. The answer to this is always a resounding yes. As soon as I can find one I'm picking it up post haste. We need Sony to hurry the Hell up and release their SSD hard drives as well. Both consoles are flat out amazing but the hard drive space given to us by the manufacturer is completely inadequate. Right now we have roughly 370Gb left on the Series X and...I'm not kidding 70Gb on the PS5.
I remember thinking it was pretty cool in the 360 days that my copy of Worms that was on the memory card could just be plugged into any system and played. I assume the same applies here as long as your account is on the other system so it's got that going for it
$219 is too expensive. I’ll use my external HDD for my older games and prioritize the few games on the internal SSD. I’m also hopeful that we’ll see sales on this card, or other cards that come into the market of various storage sizes.
I just wish they came with a small clear plastic storage case and maybe a stack of 5 paper cards so you can physically write down what's stored on the expansion card. I don't personally see myself using more than one of them as I don't play that many games at a given time, but I could see trying to keep track of what is stored on each expansion card being a pain for people who use multiple.
4 years ago, I spent $400 for an Xbox One S with a 2 TB internal hard drive. If I want 2 TBs on the Xbox Series X, I'm spending $720. I like how they know a 1 TB internal drive is not enough space and include a special slot for the memory card and sell it for a ridiculous mark up.
I have two cheap PNY external SSDs and one works for games and the other doesn't. In fact, I think the cheaper one works and the more expensive I use for screen caps. The CS 900 doesn't work for games, but the PNY Elite SSD 480gig ABSOLUTELY works. It was a back to school special at Walmart for around $40. They're $48 now but I'm sure one can find one cheaper. I tried using a USB stick for screen caps, but that wouldn't work. So now I have 500gigs of storage for screen captures
They could make a killing off this if they just release future consoles with the bare minimum internal space needed for the OS and then move the storage expansion slot to the front, encourage a return to memory cards for game saves. Bring back the old ways.

You can also use an external SSD on the S/X and it works on a lot of the boosted games.

@Hallison Michel There isnt a SSD out there that can go even a third of the XBox drive. SSD's run on Sata 3 which tops out at 600 MB/s. The XBox also uses an NVME controller, SSD's dont need fast controllers. It's speed is held back by the lack of DRAM on the card itself.

A memory card is a storage solution to allow a game to remember where you left off. It has that as it's specific task. An expansion card is a reference to laptops of the 90s that were exceptionally similar in design. Calling it a memory card is a much more recent term for a fundamentally different product.

Wouldn’t it be something for physical collectors if memory card versions of games could be released rather than having to install from a disc. You could have say 100gig card with the game and space for future updates. Possibly some artwork on the physical card. This card costs $220. Assuming that you are currently working, how long would it take you to earn $220 to spare aside from paying bills, rent, etc? It should take you no more than 2-4 weeks at the most.
Waiting a year or more for this card to drop $50-$100 when you could've come up with that amount within a month doesn't make much sense.
If you really WANT the card, then buy it now if you have the money.
If it goes down in price, then you will have to work less hours to purchase it. Some people don’t care enough for it to need it now, and spend that amount of time earning for it.

Thank you for clearing this up! For the high price, and only 1TB, I would rather use the cheaper external hard drive at half the price and 4TB. I don't play a ton of games at once, so if I have to move my games over to internal storage that's fine. I don't mind the longer wait at all. It's only a few minutes.

The only problem is that games specifically for the series x/s is only playable from the ssd/expansion card, you can’t save or install series x/s games on a normal external hard drive. However you can save and play older games from there.
As a PlayStation lover ill be honest, I really like how you xbox guys have easy to install memory cards. Something I wish the ps5 had.

I'm going to hold out until the SSDs come down in price before I get one for my Series X. At the moment I'm currently using a 4TB external HDD. I think Microsoft were very smart giving people multiple storage options right out the gate for the Series S/X. Whereas Sony fell a little short, no pun intended.

For now I am using my xbox one x as my "memory card." In case you didn't know, you can enable network transfers between local xbox consoles. Saved me from having to redownload a lot of stuff, and much faster too!

I bought one with my release day Series X direct from MS. Well worth it. Expensive, possibly, but I bought my X and this card using gift cards that I bought at a discount so saved ~60 on the total anyway.
I bought this Saturday. I am loving how much faster every game downloaded. I downloaded NBA2k21 & Cold War on it took less then 30 mins for both.

Hopefully in the next 2-5 years we can get an upgraded version from a 1TB to a 3 or 4TB option. The Memory card is optional, but having most of your gaming libary on your system with the ability to quick play to other games from XBOX, 360, ONE, Series X/S is pretty nice. I'll wait to see.

I honestly don’t see prices going down unless they include less storage. It’s not a menorah card, it’s fast, flash storage that they have to make a special housing for. Nvme drives aren’t cheap, biggest difference for the drives on Ps5 is they’re (supposed to be) faster for the same price as this Seagate model.

I think for the price I stay with my 2TB HDD if I sacrifice just some minutes to play a game, it's worth against the high cost of the memory card. I don't see the point personally but still looks like a very nice option as well.
It’s frustrating as I never had a problem with space on my hard drive until Call of Duty/Warzone. The games are so big.
Good call with using stills such as the one at 6:55 for detail shots. Video can be hard to stabilize up close, so mixing the stills in was a great choice for giving us good looks at your subjects.

@@danp4722 that is not pricey for NVMe gen 4 SSD. Where I live the standard NVMe (non Xbox memory expansion) cost around 190 to 250 USD. So this expansion is around the same ballpark for 1TB NVMe gen 4.
It's definitely pricey. But not for what it actually is at all. If anything, it's almost a great deal. Especially considering how simple and easy it installs. At most it's maybe $20 more than most of the same level SSDs.
Got both the Series X and PS5, this expansion is a must have for the series X. The PS5 could use expandable memory yesterday and I installed like 4 games and was already down to my last 100.
On the series X, I got more out of it because it starts with more space, but once I got this card I felt like I could breath when downloading some of my games

It is THE ONLY option to play Xbox series X level games. With them taking 100Gb+, you fill up you internal SSD so fast.
In reality, while technically you could use any good NVME SSD that is fast enough, Microsoft artificially limit us to only buy those.
If you really want it, buy it at MS expense. Cancel your Ultimate GamePass for a year, and you will save enough for 1Tb version.
I’ll wait a couple years, 2tb for $100 I’m in. No rush here.

As someone who has a PS5, I wish Sony had a similar storage upgrade. The western digital NVME that is marketed to work for PS5 starts at $230 and you can’t even use it yet due to FW not being released yet with no eta. At least when a parent purchases the Xbox storage upgrade, they can simply pop it in the back slot.
Imagine a parent having to install nvme into the PS5 after paying $230 only to find out that they also need a FW update? Xbox nailed the storage options. If you can’t afford a 1tb seagate, get whatever hdd/ssd you can afford. You will still have the ability to back up XSX games to avoid re-downloading them. Not to mention that you have to safely remove a external drive from a PS5 to avoid errors, while the XSX external drives are hot swappable.
Love my PS5 but the storage implementation is a mess.

@@honex97 A 7200 RPM HDD has a 150MBps transfer speed. An external NVME SSD like the Sandisk extreme pro is rated at about 2000 MBps. It would take a hard drive about ten minutes to transfer 85 GB. The SSD would take about 70 seconds. Both will take a little longer in the real world.

The answer to this is always a resounding yes. As soon as I can find one I'm picking it up post haste. We need Sony to hurry the Hell up and release their SSD hard drives as well. Both consoles are flat out amazing but the hard drive space given to us by the manufacturer is completely inadequate. Right now we have roughly 370Gb left on the Series X and...I'm not kidding 70Gb on the PS5.
I remember thinking it was pretty cool in the 360 days that my copy of Worms that was on the memory card could just be plugged into any system and played. I assume the same applies here as long as your account is on the other system so it's got that going for it

I just wish they came with a small clear plastic storage case and maybe a stack of 5 paper cards so you can physically write down what's stored on the expansion card. I don't personally see myself using more than one of them as I don't play that many games at a given time, but I could see trying to keep track of what is stored on each expansion card being a pain for people who use multiple.

4 years ago, I spent $400 for an Xbox One S with a 2 TB internal hard drive. If I want 2 TBs on the Xbox Series X, I'm spending $720. I like how they know a 1 TB internal drive is not enough space and include a special slot for the memory card and sell it for a ridiculous mark up.
I have two cheap PNY external SSDs and one works for games and the other doesn't. In fact, I think the cheaper one works and the more expensive I use for screen caps. The CS 900 doesn't work for games, but the PNY Elite SSD 480gig ABSOLUTELY works. It was a back to school special at Walmart for around $40. They're $48 now but I'm sure one can find one cheaper. I tried using a USB stick for screen caps, but that wouldn't work. So now I have 500gigs of storage for screen captures

Nope.
They could make a killing off this if they just release future consoles with the bare minimum internal space needed for the OS and then move the storage expansion slot to the front, encourage a return to memory cards for game saves. Bring back the old ways.

But you also have to remember like five years ago or even four years ago one terabyte of expandible storage for an SSD is also around $200
So is it really a high price
