    Hey Brad, any idea if the memory expansion port allows (or could theoretically allow) multiple memory units to be connected at once? I realize that would require a hub of some sort though. Right now I have 2 USB HDDs plugged into a USB hub and then into my XSX. I haven't heard anybody ask MS if this is possible with their memory setup. I'm hesitant to buy the 1tb card, only to want a bigger card later, and I wont be to also use the 1tb at the same time. Thanks

    • @Wimmle
      @Wimmle 3 роки тому

      There's no bandwidth available the lanes are already split between internal/external ssds

    • @epobirs
      @epobirs 3 роки тому

      @@Wimmle Simply untrue. There are separate PCIe lanes for each SSD socket. Keep in mind they're only using two lanes for each socket, whereas the more common PC designs (and PS5) supply 4 lanes.
      Also, it isn't a question of bandwidth if the objective is to create a larger volume at the same performance level. This would a significantly more expensive device than a simple switcher that merely made hot swapping cards more convenient but such are already widely available for PC application.

    • @epobirs
      @epobirs 3 роки тому +1

      That depends on what you are hoping to achieve. A simple switchbox that allowed multiple cards to be connected and utilized one at a time would be fairly cheap. There have been myriad such devices for game console cartridges since the Atari VCS days. I had a device for PATA drives that let you have three different drives connected to your PC and changed which would be the boot volume at the press of a button. (This required shutting down and starting up again after selecting the drive, of course. But it was more transparent to the system than a bootloader menu.)
      A device that would take several cards and make them look like a single volume to the Xbox is easily done with existing chips already in use for PCs and servers. This however makes for a MUCH more expensive device. In 2022 the Seagate exclusive on the expansion cards will have ended and more companies will be able to enter the market and compete on price. This will also open up the market for things like smaller and larger capacity cards. A company may see a market for a 500GB card if the price is low enough.
      Another possibility is a device to make a more common PC M.2 2280 device usable with the expansion slot. Depending on whether latency issues can be overcome, a x4 PCIe 3.0 device could fulfill the performance specs for the Xbox Series SSDs, since they only use 2 lanes of PCIe 4.0 on the Xbox SSD sockets. This would help alleviate the cost of the RAID hardware by allowing the box to be populated with less expensive SSDs. I've yet to hear of anyone attempting this but things should get interesting as the Seagate contract expires late this year.
      Again, the big issue for any such device will be latency. The throughput can be there to fully saturate the connection but latency will be a huge factor for games that really depend on the SSD behaving as expected to create uninterrupted gameplay.

    Hi there! Thanks for the video. You are right. Game Pass makes it easy to try games that you might not be willing to buy individually. I have so many Game Pass games to play, I do not have time to buy and play other games. XCloud will make it even easier to try a game. I am very happy that Xbox is working to support cloud streaming. However, many games on Game Pass are just not that big. I would not be surprised if streaming some games for an hour uses more data than just downloading it. It might also cause problems for those of us that have data caps. About a year ago, I was playing a lot of games on Stadia and had to watch out for that data cap even though mine was 1000Gb a month. Streaming at 4k could use up to about 15 to 20Gb an hour. Unfortunately, I have not had much success with XCloud performing well. I recently tried playing Destiny 2 on my iPad using an Xbox controller connected by Bluetooth on both XCloud and Stadia. Stadia ran pretty well. XCloud had noticeably more input lag. I hope Xbox will be able to improve this. It is a great time to be a gamer!

    Seriously? As one of the original beta testers for XCloud, Cloud Streaming IS NOT a SOLUTION to storage "problems". It is an ALTERNATIVE to buying a console or an expensive gaming rig. Heck, "unofficially" I tested XCloud on several LOW END Chromebooks with ZERO ISSUES (info sent to Microsoft). Buy a GREAT SSD for long term storage and move your X/S Enhanced games to INTERNAL MEMORY when ready to play (as I do on my X). "PROBLEM" SOLVED.

    This doesn't solve anything. It introduces a latency and input lag problem. You are also capped at 1080P. Lastly, you better hope your ISP doesn't have data caps or your monthly bill might be a not fun surprise. I do agree that this is a good opion for a quick demo test of games, but this is absolutely NOT a long term solution to the storage problem unless you live in an area with fiber optic to the home and unlimited monthly data usage.

    Not a huge fan of cloud gaming. It ends up informing game DESIGN because of its limitations in latency. If cloud gaming is successful we’ll end up with less games that need fast response times. Like fighting games.
